friends to lovers and slow burn. this is the kind of romance i live for. and the fact that i didn’t even expect this book to have these two tropes. i am obviously elated.

-

I am very much pleased to conclude that I found another good romance book.

Lovestruck has everything I want! Good banter, perfect chemistry, a right amount of angst, a not so obvious ending (I only realized it around 70% in lol), and lovable MCs and supporting characters 🩷

This was an utter joy.

A fluffy romance with a twist indeed. Once it became clear where it was leading I found myself really cheering for the characters and the ending - Oh it made my heart happy!

'You cheer me on when I'm winning and run alongside me when I'm not, you reminding me that there's only a good night's sleep between a bad day and a good one.'

I absolutely loved this book! It was my first Laura Jane Williams book and it will not be my last. I loved the two timelines, especially the cheeky little crossovers between them. The characters were so well written, it’s one of the very few romcom books where it wasn’t immediately obvious who I was supposed to root for!
Becca’s friends were absolutely brilliant and often had me laughing out loud with their banter. I read most of the book with a big cheesy grin on my face!

What a fabulous book! I love everything about romances so was chuffed to be given an arc for this from Net Galley!

Becca is a hairstylist in her own salon in her mid thirties and she’s finally ready to settle down and find Mr Right. After a manifestation session in the salon she chooses to manifest the love of her life and not long after she gets a text from her ex. Is this a sign?

This story is written across two timelines - one where Becca reunites with her ex where she decides to answer the text and the other where she doesn’t answer the text.

I absolutely love a story on two different timelines. It really makes you realise how different your life can be from making one small decision. This story is easy to follow, hilarious at times and really makes you feel like you are reading about real people. I loved all the characters in the book and felt like I could be part of Becca’s friendship group! A fabulous easy story which I would recommend!

3.5 ⭐️ this actually really surprised me with how much I liked it. The concept was done so well and i immediately knew from the first chapter who she was going to end up with. However, too much time was spent on the other TWO relationships which were not going to be her endgame. Like why did we read about them for soooo long? Would’ve loved to see more of Carlos and Becca than the one chapter at the end :(

I wasn’t sure on this at first, but when I began to see where it was going, I ended up really enjoying it! It was very interesting to see both the what ifs play out - it really got me thinking about fate and whether everything happens for a reason. And what a lovely ending! A very heart-warming read.

I am lovestruck by this book!!!!! 😍😍😍 Loved, loved, loved it.

The book starts off with Becca, and best friends Carlos and Jia Li, throwing a manifestation party at their salon Trim in honour of summer solstice. Becca is putting it out there to the universe that she wants to find the one. She wants marriage and babies and to be wholeheartedly loved. She is manifesting that this year, she will find the one. Just five minutes after putting her call out to the universe, her ex Mike texts her - he’s thinking about her. Surely that’s a sign if ever there was one? Should she text back? Should she delete and block? There’s no need to wonder what if because we follow Becca through BOTH scenarios. The chapters alternate from a universe where she does text back, and a universe where she doesn’t. We get to see how Becca’s forthcoming year plays out in both universes, and how a split second decision has the power to change the course of your entire life.

I love books and films like this where you get to see both of the what ifs play out. I find it really interesting and also quite scary that even the smallest decision can impact the way the rest of your life turns out. But then there’s also fate. Does everything happen for a reason? If it’s meant to be, will it happen anyway? Regardless of what decisions you make. This book definitely inspired some serious existential thinking!!

A great cast of characters make up this book - Becca and her two ride or dies - Jia Li and Carlos have the BEST of relationships and I loved the scenes where all three of them were together. Everyone needs friends like them. All the secondary characters were great too, like Betty, Becca’s Mum and Dad, Dave…they really brought the book to life and gave it the warmth that it exuded.

Also it’s set in Kings Heath and the surrounding areas! Which meant I could picture it so well having grown up not far from there!

I really enjoyed this one. It’s made it into my personal top three of Laura’s books so far (I haven’t read Just For December yet). The ending was perfect and everything I hoped for, it even made me cry with how utterly lovely it was. I highly recommend this book!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Lovestruck as it was my first experience of Laura Jane Williams but oh what a page turner! I’ve already purchased another of her books.

Should Becca text her ex back or should she not? The story takes you on a journey through the two possible outcomes to this scenario with the idea that both paths will still lead you exactly to where you’re meant to be as life has a funny way of working out.

I’ll be honest, it did take me until halfway through the book to realise each chapter worked in this way but I’m not sure if that can be blamed on the author or my tired mind!

By the end, I felt so invested in every single character as LJW made each of them feel so real. The way they interacted and the things they would say felt realistic and relatable.

I can Lovestruck being a huge hit when it’s released on 8th June. Thank you Penguin Random House and NetGalley for letting me experience my first ever ARC!

Ah I loved this book! Lovestruck is a Sliding Doors-esque story following two different paths that Becca’s love life can take…. I won’t give anything away but we’ll worth a read with lovable characters and friendships- chick lit at its best.

Lovestruck is a love story in two parts which ultimately follows Becca on her hunt for Mr Right. We follow two different timelines - one where Becca rekindles things with her ex boyfriend, and another where she blocks his attempt to get in touch and instead starts up a relationship with a famous author. In both narratives we see Becca and her suitors’ relationships develop, and ultimately looks at whether fate and destiny really play a part in finding romantic happiness.

I loved seeing the different timelines and the differences and similarities between them both - plus the nods to either like the authors book appearing in the opposite timeline. I love Laura’s writing and this felt more confident and assured than her previous books and reminded me of Lindsey Kelk with the humorous elements woven in beautifully.

I liked this, but I didn't love it as much as I hoped. The story centres around Becca, a salon owner in Birmingham on the search for her soulmate. The story splits when Becca gets a text message from Mike, her ex boyfriend who moved to New York. From that point on, we see two threads of Becca's life - one where she texts Mike back, and one where she blocks his number.

It reminded me somewhat of What Might Have Been by Holly Miller, with the parallel lives, but I didn't think it worked quite so well in this case. The chapters switched between the timelines quite quickly, and I found a couple of times that I couldn't recall which timeline something had happened with.

The love story itself was cute, but I saw the ending coming quite early on. Both relationships moved faster than I thought was believable, and added to my impression that Becca was really quite a one dimensional character. Despite being a successful business owner and an active social life, her desire for love had a desperate edge to it and seemed to dominate her personality. The side characters were super lovable though, and as a whole the story was good. Carlos and Jia Li were awesome, and I'd pick up a sequel for more of them! Also Becca's parents!

Extra brownie points for being set in my home turf of Birmingham! It's an amazing, vibrant city and it doesn't get as much positive press as it deserves. I will say that the speech patterns in particular were excellent! I could hear these characters voices so clearly!

Thanks to NetGalley, Random House and Laura Jane Williams for the chance to read an e-arc of this book in exchange for an independent review.

I’m going to be honest here and say I don’t remember requesting this one on NetGalley and it’s not really my usual sort of read. I nearly didn’t bother, but I’m between books and waiting to start a buddy read so I thought it would be a quick one to fill the time, and it was.

Sadly I should have followed my instincts- this just wasn’t for me. Maybe it was the sliding doors two timelines element that made me request it, but what I found was the split timeline just made me uninvested in either romantic interest.

The eventual outcome didn’t do anything for me either for the same reasons.

There is a fair bit of mildish spice here, but I didn’t feel like there was any tension built, so it was all fairly meh for me.

Just not my cup of tea unfortunately!

Thanks to @netgalley and @randomhouse for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this one, there’s just something about this author that draws me in and makes me all cozy while I read their books. I loved reading through the two timelines for the different options she faces, does she choose her ex or start new? I couldn’t figure out who I should root for in this one for a while because both options seemed good for Becca. The banter was absolutely hilarious and I couldn’t help but absolutely adore Becca’s friends.

If you’re looking for a fun romcom definitely pick this one up.

Thank you to Century books for sending me a gorgeous proof of this one.

Although initially confused about what was happening, once I got into the book I realised that it was operating on a ‘sliding door’s’ narrative arc. Sadly, the eventual outcome seemed so obvious that there was no real question in my mind and the characters were, for the most part, simply too two-dimensional for me to really get onboard with it.

If you are looking for a feel good summer read that doesn’t stretch your imagination too far on the beach, this might well be what you’re after, it sadly just didn’t work for me.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars - I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the plot, as Williams tells two stories - one following what happens if Becca replies to her ex, and one following what happens if she doesn’t reply. This made the plot fast paced and gave characters lots of different dimensions, making me root for Becca throughout. This plot device also captured my interest and I wanted to keep reading. I did figure out what would happen around the middle of the book but I still enjoyed seeing this play out.

I read Love Struck whilst on holiday last week, I always prefer a romance as a beach read and would definitely recommend Love Struck!

I really wanted to like this book, the synopsis sounded right up my street!

Unfortunately I couldn’t make it past the first 2 chapters, I’m extremely disappointed but I don’t necessarily think it was the authors fault at all, I just couldn’t get into the writing style and that’s more of a me problem than anything else!
Maybe I’m just not in the right mental headspace for this book as I have just finished a long dark book series.

I’ll definitely try and give it another go in the future though as I’d love to give it a proper chance like it deserves! :)

I loved this story, it was a great variation on the Sliding Doors theme. One single decision and two vastly different results. It was great fun to see the two threads slightly overlap or brief glimpses of the other timeline appearing in the existing one.

So the main decision is: following a manifestation session in which Becca says her goal is to find Mr Right, she receives a text message from her ex-boyfriend Mike, the one who got away. Her decision is whether she should reply to the text, or, block his number and leave things be.

So the story splits. 'Yes, she Texts back' and ends up meeting up with Mike and rekindling their old romance, enjoying having him back in her life, reconnecting with his family and being welcomed back into the fold. Before long, she and Mike are back where they are, and heading closer to the happy ever after Becca was dreaming of.

Alternatively, 'She Doesn't Text Back' and she attends a party where everyone brings someone they wouldn't date themselves and meets a younger man, author Noah Brooks and enters into a whirlwind, walking on clouds, romantic relationship with him and within a short amount of time she's head over heels and also heading towards a happy ever after.

So which of the Mr Rights is the real deal and which is destined for heartbreak? The answer was not what I was expecting at first and I had my favourite of the two men until things started changing and twisting and the ending was perfect,

I loved the side story of Jia-Li and her unplanned pregnancy as well. She was such a good friend and confident to Becca and Becca in turn was a great support to Jia-Li throughout her pregnancy in both timelines, as it played out slightly differently depending on who Becca was dating,

My only niggle on this book was the fact it was written in the third person and I'm so used to the first person these days, so that took a while to get used to.

Firstly, a big thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House (Cornerstone) for the ARC and the opportunity to read this fabulous story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Becca is a very relatable main character. She suffers the same awkward, cliché blunders we all do in the dating world – she’s an over thinker which is a very relatable trait.

Becca is living out two possible paths from whether she replies to the text from her ex or not. I didn’t get this at first because I don’t think it was very clear that this was what was going on but it helps that the chapters are titled ‘She Texts Back’ ‘She Doesn’t Text Back’. I think that having two timelines running alongside each other is a really cool concept. The two relationships that played out were very different, but I was invested in both. But no matter the universe/timeline, she ends up with the same guy that I was rooting for her to end up with all along. It’s safe to say I was mighty pleased with the ending.

Becca’s relationships did move very quickly and I love that her friends did call her up on this; I like that her friendships with Jia Li and Carlos are so strong that they could be this forward and honest with her. Their protectiveness is everything!

Ultimately, this is a really indulgent romance, and I think that this book will be a big hit when it’s released.

Lovestruck is the first Laura Jane Williams book I’ve read, and I’m now looking forward to reading more of her back catalogue. I really enjoyed the humour in her writing, not to mention the unusual premise, which is one I hadn’t encountered before. It’s reminiscent of Sliding Doors — two choices and two timelines — but it’s all it’s own story, and it’s a pretty clever one at that. I liked both timelines/choices, and I was always intrigued as to who Becca would end up with; would it be her ex-boyfriend Mike, or new man Noah? I’m obviously not going to give any hints, but suffice to say I was happy with the outcome.

Becca and her friends, Jia Li and Carlos, provided much of the humour in Lovestruck. I laughed out loud a few times (particularly at a reference to a tractor exhaust), and I liked their easygoing, loyal friendship. I did feel that Becca was missing an overall main character spark for me (I’m not sure what, exactly), but she was still a very likeable character and one I had no problem spending four-hundred pages with. Her choices showed that life isn’t always what we expect it will be; things don’t work out like a fictional romance film, and that’s okay. Nothing can be predicted, but often the surprises are what end up being the best parts.

Lovestruck is definitely one to read for fans of romance and romcom books, and I’m glad it was my first foray into Laura Jane Williams’s writing. Although it isn’t one of my favourites of the genre, it has a lot to offer and it’ll make a great summer read!

3.5/5.

Laura Jane, I do believe you have done it again!
I have enjoyed Williams' books so far, and this was so good.
Becca is a hairstylist and salon owner in her mid-thirties, worried that her time will pass. A timely event at the salon includes a session with a woman who encourages manifestations.
Becca chooses to manifest the love of her life into her life as soon as possible.
Within hours she gets a text from her ex.
Is it a sign?
The story is told intriguingly, running along parallel timelines in two different scenarios.
One where she doesn't bother to answer the text and the other where she does...
I can't write too much about the story, but it is really well done!
I loved Becca's best friend, Jia Li, and her salon partner, Carlos.
The tension, as it builds in both storylines, is palpable, and oh, I couldn't wait to see how the end panned out in both versions. Great read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK for an ARC.

Lovestruck
By Laura Jane Williams
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Fireworks are great, big laughs and huge passions – but day in and day out, it’s nice to rub alongside somebody comfortably. A lot of life is just sitting beside somebody else, after all. Sitting on the sofa. On a plane somewhere. Being side by side when you drive in the car.’

This book follows the life and lovelife of Becca, who simply just wishes to be "Lovestruck".
She just wants to be in love, married and having kids already!
So when she receives a text from an ex after a positive attitude devine intervention ceremony, could it be the sign from the universe?
Stuck with the choice of whether she should reply and allow Mike back into her life or to leave her past just where it belongs..in the past, we follow her life in two different ways based on whether she texts back or not!
This was a very interesting, very different type of book and I am all for it!
At first, I didn't quite "get" the different timelines, and got a little confused as to why things are happening twice and at different times, but then I understood how the book was written(pardon me..I can be a bit slow sometimes 😄 🤣)!
This book is written in a sort of parallel universe if you wish! Living 2 lives..
Answering the question of "what if?"
How does life change depending on one simple decision?
And does the outcome still end up the same no matter what you decide?
This was a fun romcom that had me laughing on so many occasions!
Loved it!

I found this book a bit of a slow burner to start but after a few chapters I was hooked. I loved the fact that it moved between two realities which I initially thought may be confusing but it wasn’t at all.
I thought the characters were great and loved Beccas relationship with Jia-Li and Carlos and found the characters very relatable.
I loved the ending and was willing Becca to make the right decision and I even shed a few tears towards the end as I was so invested in her making the right choice.
I would definitely recommend this book as a romantic summer read.
