I really enjoyed this story but…
Could it have been spicier? Yes!
Did I go into this book thinking it was smutty? Yes again…
Is it possible I misread the synopsis and thought it said this book was smutty even though it was not?
Also yes.

Let's start off with the positives. The story was very fun! If you like Pirates of the Caribbean you will love this book. It has a lot of the same themes but it's about romance not cursed gold lol. There are sirens and gods and goddesses… Forced marriages, sword fighting, and a very slow burn enemies to lovers romance.

Don’t make the same mistake I did and go into this book thinking it’s a smut book. IT IS NOT!
The spice is pretty much just foreplay and when they finally fvck it’s more of a summary rather than a detailed play by play. Which is weird since it is an adult book.
The sexy pirate that she's married to is super hot and had the whole ‘touch my wife and I'll kill you’ thing going on. Which we LOVE!
Even though this book is pretty PG-13 it was still really good. I will definitely be reading the second one when it comes out next year.

Fast-paced to the extreme. Incredibly unbelievable and unrealistic. Female lead able to sneak off pirate ships without being noticed; constantly break out of cells by breaking down doors; beat pirates in a sword fight with a knife regardless of having no experience; and then turns into a siren. They also seem to be able to sail between places in no time at all and be able to row dinghies inexplicable distances. It stretches your tolerance and belief too far.

The male love interest is supposed to be attractive and possessive and instead just comes across as a psychopath who keeps on getting his entire crew killed off. Their relationship development is almost non-existent. She is attracted to him but has no proper feelings until she realised that he let his entire crew get slaughtered because of his feelings for her (although it is down to his general incompetency as a pirate captain). There is also the build up to the spiciness in their relationship which comes to a complete anticlimatic fade to black sort of scene.

Overall, after reading the book I have now come to realise I need to stop falling for TikTok recommendations based on quotes from the book.

I had such higher hopes. But alas, this was so utterly predictable and the steamy scenes were completely glossed over.

The plot was great, I really loved the story line of overall but the synopsis and the ads I got for this book were misleading. This book had as much spice as a freaking bell pepper. We get details of them flirting and making about and then that fade to black nonsense when they finally do it. There’s a light description that they made love for a few days but absolutely no details. If your looking for a book with a good plot but zero spice this one’s for you.

This is a fantasy romance perfect for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, Greek mythology and morally grey characters 🖤

I love the arranged marriage trope, specially when it’s combined with forced proximity 👀 On the night of her engagement ball Georgette is captured by the handsome pirate Captain Stone. He plans on using Georgette for his own hidden agenda, however, he finds himself attracted to her. Georgette is used to court life and is betrothed to Prince Edward, captain of the royal Naval. The romance is hate-to-love with a slow burn, if you guys also enjoy a good build up that has you crawling up the walls with need, until we finally get the much deserved spice, then you will love this ✨❤️ I love how protective Captain Stone becomes of her! Also I am a sucker for the hidden identity trope and Captain Stone is more than meets the eye…👀

“You may have forgotten, my lady, that I made a solemn vow to protect you… even from me.” <\i>

The worldbuilding is lush with mystical sea creatures, piracy adventures. I’m also excited that I already have a copy of book 2 in hands to see Prince Edwards tale!

What you can expect:
🏴‍☠️Pirates, Pirates & Pirates!
🏴‍☠️Forced proximity
🏴‍☠️arranged marriage
🏴‍☠️hate-to-love
🏴‍☠️Touch her & die
🏴‍☠️love triangle

As a lifelong Pirates of the Caribbean super fan, I can tell you this will give you major Jack and Lizzie vibes, but I also deeply appreciate how Captain Stone and Georgette are also extremely unique in their own characterization!!

I fell in LOVE with the audiobook narrator’s voice and absolutely adored the writing style—Athena Rose is a masterful storyteller and this book proved to be exactly what I needed to keep feeding my recent pirate romance obsession!

I cannot recommend this one enough for lovers of dark historical fantasy with a sea-faring, pirating backdrop and banter-filled romance with a bit of spice. Def gonna be a fave read of the year for me!

Romancing the Seas is a series of interconnected standalones, each focusing on a different pairing! Reading Order: Married to a Pirate, Bound to a Siren, & Sworn to a Demigod. Can’t wait to read Prince Edward’s book next!

What to Expect:
—Multi POV Chapters
—Possessive MMC
—Pirates and Sirens
—Touch Her & ☠️
—Tension and Banter
—Forced Marriage
—Slowburn to Steam

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.

First off i want to start this review by saying that i had high hopes for this book and i’m a little disappointed. I expected a lot more. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t my favourite nor will i be rereading.
When i was buying the book i remember reading that it was a dark romance, but honestly it felt more like a YA book. The book was also written in a narrator style instead of POV and personally that isn’t my cup of tea.

The blurb is what caught my attention,
“You enslaved me!”
“Nay, i liberated you, my lady. And there will be more liberating to come if you behave.”
Imagine you’re engaged to marry a prince, but your father gambles away your dowry and sells you to a pirate captain, who you are forced to marry.

He’s called and ruthless, so you run away but when you get captured by more pirate, and just as they’re about to hurt you, your pirate, husband shows up, with his sword to the captains throat, as he wars, “ touch, my wife and I will destroy you all”

MARRIED TO A PIRATE IS A STEAMY DARK FANTASY ROMANCE WITH ADVENTURE AND GREEK MYTHOLOGY-

After i read that i was expecting a smut filled pirate book. Turns out it was mostly just kissing and non-descriptive sex scenes. Sadly there was also nothing dark about this book. Did i enjoyed the story? Yes, but i will say i’m a little disappointed.

Story had potential, I found the way it was written annoying to read. I wish the relationships had been better developed (like, they spend weeks on a boat, but we barely see them interact in a regular setting, so, sure they've talked in those weeks, but how do we know how those conversations have gone?). The mashing of mythologies wasn't bad, but again, the actual characters and their journeys were kind of fluffed over at times. So much potential, but not well executed.

Can't say I enjoyed

For me, it was too quick and jumpy.
There was no real world building and the story felt rushed, I didn't care about the characters or what happened to them. It had the premise to be a fantastic book but sadly missed the mark

This book was like OKAY?

And could have been great if it wasn't... You know... Written so much like a jack sparrow fanfiction?? And as a person who generally prefers clean romances.. i really wished for some spice in this book. I was robbed. 😭.

Much Predictable... but overall it was... fun.

My first ever pirate romance.

I didn't know I needed a pirate romance until I read this book. I've been burned by so many pirate romances in the past, so I was hesitant going into this one. However, I found the writing to suck you in and Rose created characters that you couldn't help but fall in love with. I'm excited for more of the series!

4⭐ 2 🌶️

Tropes and themes: Touch her and die, "good girl", pirates and sirens, morally grey MMC, love triangle.

This was exactly what I needed - light-hearted, easy read, fantasy with darker themes, pirates and sirens! It's the perfect book if you need something a little less intense and more fun to read! I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series!

I just cannot believe how PREDICTABLE this book was.
It was so bad I loved it though?

It had soooo much potential with the storyline, but I’m sorry to say it was poorly executed.
I’ve read Pirates of the Caribbean fanfiction written by 16 year olds better than this.

At the same time, I’d be lying if I say I wouldn’t fall in love with the “possessive alpha male that stole me” or whatever that quote was. Captain Stone kinda slayed.

Very face paced, readers should be pre warned of the whiplash you’ll get from the thousands of things that happen.

Won’t be continuing this series - sorry!

I immediately said "This is a Pirate of the Caribbean fanfiction", except the lead male is bland and predictable. The spice is so mild, you couldn't even use it for salsa- at the start, you think wow this is going to be fire... but alas it's just a lot of faces planting into crotches (not on purpose), and wistful longing touches followed by confused *feelings*

Honestly, the storyline felt chaotic to me and the side plots were bizarre.
Booktok got me on this one.

Fun little read.
Pirates of the carribean fanfiction.
Don't read it for the spice, it's not there.

We love a simping pirate that fell faster and harder than the 'damsel in distress'.

The worst book I read this year and in a long, long time. The only redeeming quality of this book was how quickly one could read it. No depth, no character development. Just a pirate who becomes obsessed with a specific woman for no reason. The story line didn't make sense. Time never made sense and she clearly knew nothing about maps and boats.

Pros: Easy read. Read it in a day

Cons: buckle up buttercup

• Let’s just start off with why the disclaimer at the beginning? This is practically vanilla.
Maybe I need to check what I’m reading because I have read way worse. Books that actually lived up to their disclaimer (looking at you Raven Kennedy)
When I read that part that alludes to suicide, it wasn’t abundantly clear that’s what it was. All she mentions was Georgette seeing papers lying around and then feet. I was thinking more along the line of grief taxes the body and then died from a heart attack. It wasn’t until she was later that it was confirmed suicide… by hanging. Um hmmm??
When there was acts of sexual violence, you knew the knight in shining armor was not that far away to save the damsel in distress…….multiple times…..

• This book is painfully predictable. Guessed so much from the just the first few chapters alone.

• The pirate in question description was a dead ringer to Captain Jack Sparrow, if he had more of a beard. Down to the gold rings on his fingers and diamond tooth! Wasn’t Jacks’ gold?! I digress. And Prince Edward is painfully similar to Admiral Norrington. Even the part where they are stranded on a “deserted” island is a similar scene to the movie.
Legitimately read this book playing the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song in my head. But who doesn’t love a sexy possessive Captain Jack Sparrow, Savvy.

• Every single time they turned around they were in some sort of peril. Only time they weren’t was 3 days of what was suggested to be sex in a tree house.

• Let me elaborate. This is NOT a smut book. I wouldn’t even go as far to claim this is even a spicy book. Turn around if you are expecting it to go down! It does. You just don’t get a lot of the deets. You get suggestions of the deets.

• It’s like the Sunday school teacher decided to write a fan fiction of Captain Jack Sparrow and make it “sexy”. Oh and let’s add in a bit of flare with allllll sorts of mythologies pulled into one. Greek God meets Egyptian Goddess and has children…. Ehhh okay…

• This is just personal preference but I’m not a huge fan of 3 view points. I get why she did it. The third wheel is the main character of the second book. Had to have a segue somewhere right?!
