This story is part of Heroes with Heat and Heart Anthology, and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I normally do with any of Kendall Talbot’s stories, she has a way that brings out the best in her characters but making them honest and real at the same time as she packs such action and energy into the story.

Makenna is going into Afghanistan to uncover an illegal drug set up and she discovers that she is being protected by her ex Channing and they did not end well nine years ago, but with danger coming thick and fast maybe it is time to put the past behind them and think to the future.

It was great catching up with some of the team from The Alpha Tactical Ops Team as well, this is a quick read that will keep you turning the pages, fast paced and filled with wonderful characters.

My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.

Heroes with Heat and Heart (Volume 3) is a romance charity anthology about the protectors in our world. Tho, I only know 2 authors from the ensemble, I already know this'll be great for those who love enjoyable & thrilling short stories!

I'd only gotten Denise Wells' story as an ARC so I've only read that one still ♥️. Looking forward to the release!

The Badge and The Beauty by Denise Wells

A sexy & exciting romance with a sassy damsel in distress & the white-knight who protects her! Devoured the story in around 2hrs.

Savannah is 24, southern spitfire & sassy sweet, lost her all (scholarship, beauty pageant etc) due to being drug-framed. Now, she's being threatened! Wtf! Atleast, The sexy detective's on her side...who makes her desire, invoking new feelings. (Yup, she's a virgin... but not for long 😉)

Hudson is 36, Broody & Protective, has experienced loss in previous relationship, he doesn't need a women to complicate his life. Then comes Sav like a storm, stealing his every thought. He can't help but want her.

Resisting their attraction is futile, but with so many big forces against them (cartel & officials 🤯)...can they have a future?

Spicy with a 12 yr age-gap, amusing banters, push-pull, a hero that can cook, a heroine whose sass is frustrating & adorable, shacking up, donuts, on the run, hacker friend, & bigger fishes to catch! A sweet HEA & epilogue to boot (but I did want to know if Sav had gotten a job, hope she was able to). Love Denise's stories.

This review is for Calling Dr Hudson by Roxanne Tully which is contained in this book.

This is an angsty love story between a doctor and unbeknownst to him, a nurse from his hospital. The story is well written and really pulls at your heart strings. Plus it’s a single dad romance which always gets me. Loved it!

This 5-star review is for "Man in Uniform" by Cassie Mae. I absolutely loved this l novella so much and I read it all in one sitting since I couldn’t put it down till I found out what happened next. Hazel and Hunter are both such relatable characters that I loved and I thought they were simply adorable together. Overall, I recommend that everyone reads this novella and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

Reading for charity? Yes, please!

This 5-star review is for "Man in Uniform" by Cassie Mae. If you've read stories by Cassie Mae before, you've probably come across one of her wonderfully nerdy main characters before. Since I'm on the nerdy spectrum as well, I truly appreciate the represenation. ;) I found Hazel, our video game streamer extraordinaire, and Hunter, the proverbial "Man in Uniform" to be likeable and relatable characters - and just adorable together! I thoroughly enjoyed this cute novella with a little suspense, and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series and hopefully get to know Hunter's siblings better.

I have only read Moonstruck Fire so far and here is my review.

This is a cute, short story about two cross starred loves. I can’t imagine what Brooke felt when Sawyer broke up with her and even blocked her number after being together for three years. Ironically two years later the two are on the same flights to Australia to Moonstruck Cove. I didn’t blame Brooke for ignoring Sawyer on the flight and once they landed. Sawyer had hurt her deeply. The crazy thing was that Sawyer still loved her. I loved watching Sawyer try to get back with Brooke. I was shocked why he broke up with her. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

I am adding the following book that I also read.
Nichole Severn
Mountain Murder
This is a short and intriguing story that will make you want more. Luckily Ms. Severn has more books like this which is in greater detail and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Audrey had lived in Battle Mountain all her life and was a trauma therapist. I was glad that Easton Ford had built Whispering Pines Ranch on his land to help military and/ or people who faced traumatic experiences could come the the ranch for help. Audrey had an experience with one of her patients and needed help so she went to the ranch to get help for herself. I was glad she had Lance there trying to get help with his PTSD. When Audrey was attacked in her room at the ranch where she was supposed to be safe, Lance took it upon himself to protect her. There were more suspenseful actions that had me trying to figure out who the culprit was. This is just a taste of Ms. Severn’s writing, but I strongly encourage you to read this book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Like I do with most big anthologies, I write up reviews as I go and don't read all the stories at once. I was eager to pre-order this one when I saw it was for a worthy charity and chock full of military action and romances and lots of new to me authors to try.

Delta Mission by Kendall Talbot 5stars
.5 Alpha Ops

A shocking reunion under the most harrowing of circumstances allows two hardened veterans in their respective fields of service a chance to get past what went wrong nine years before, the hate they have felt for each other between, and take care of business in the present.

Makenna is a DEA agent and this current mission into Afghanistan to take out a huge drug lab will be the making or breaking of her career. She’s seasoned at her job, fit, and she’s done hours of intel, but her boss is going out on a limb that this strike with a Delta team will pay off. Only minutes into the mission and she’s facing a dark, painful part of her past. Of course, Channing is the captain of the Delta team escorting her DEA team in.

When the mission goes pear-shaped, Channing ends up stuck in hiding with Makenna and she is determined that he finally here her side of the story- her truth from that past mission they were on that went wrong and exploded their relationship. The sizzle between them has survived along with their mutual hate, but will her explanation be enough to change things and will they be rescued before their chance gets snuffed out for good?

I’ve been a fan of the author and the Alpha Ops books so spotting that an Alpha Ops prequel was part of the anthology was a huge ‘cherry on top’ bonus to my already eager desire to support the charity with my purchase which brings the chance to try out many new authors and their military romance stories.

Delta Mission is a standalone that newbies can pick up and get a feel for the author’s writing and for what is a bombastic opener to the series which follows those in the rescue team long after the incident in this story. The novella is action-packed and fast paced, but as usual, the author has a gift for a fully fleshed out romance element to pair with the action. A strong story and a good start to my read of the anthology.

PLEASE NOTE: Delta Mission is only available in the Heroes with Heat and Heart Charity Anthology Vol 3.
Delta Mission is the prequel book to Escape Mission – book one in my Alpha Tactical Ops series - featuring ex-military men and women and the partners trying to tame them in a collection of standalone books with interconnecting characters..

My full review of this novella will post at The Reading Frenzy Aug 9th.

My review for one of the stories…
Mountain Murder
Nichole Severn
When the peace at Whispering Pines Ranch is shattered, a place for wounded warriors, a place so fortified it should be safe, they all spring into action to protect the vulnerable from any threat. Instincts run deep and Lance is drawn to the very thick of it.
Audrey, a trauma therapist needed respite to heal herself. As a local she knows Battle Mountain has been through enough trauma to last many lifetimes.
This is a fast paced romantic suspense novella you can read in an afternoon . It is set in a world Ms Severn fans will be familiar with but can definitely read as a stand-alone short with hea. I be love the hard feelings, love the thought and love the twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.
I received an arc of this book.

I read this for In My Sights by D. Williams. This novella is the prequel for her upcoming book Priest in the Morningstar MC Reno. I love this novella and can't wait to get my hands on Priest!! This is the story of how Priest meets, loses, and finds Milly. D. Williams knows how to grab your attention and make you love her characters!.

Another winner in my opinion!

This novella is part of an anthology, so please do not expect the depth and complexity of plot and characters that Katarina Simms usually gives us. It deals with the hurt Jenna has lived with for many years since Rhys left town to follow his dream of being a firefighter. He learns that being a hero is exhausting emotionally and longs for a less stressful life. He also finds out that he misses Jenna more than he ever imagined. When they are reunited, her hurt holds her back until he changes his behavior toward her. Watching them both change to make it work is sweet and hopeful.

This review is for the book Delta Mission.
Kendall Talbot has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Makenna and Channing. Makenna and Channing had been a couple until something happened to break them up. Makenna is a DEA agent and Channing is part of a special Ops team. Makenna and her team are in Afghanistan with Channing and his team to take down a drug lab. When they get to the village where the lab is to be, it is empty. She finds a house where some women are. She goes to talk to them. While she is talking, Channing and his team are attacked. Channing goes after the man who attacked him and ends up in a tunnel. When Makenna looks to see what is going on, most of the women leave the house. There is one woman that stays and she attacks Makenna. Makenna tries to fight her off and she gets a few hits in and the woman ends up disappearing. Makenna follows the woman and ends up in a tunnel. This is where she finds the drug lab. Channing keeps trying to get in touch with his team but gets no answer from them. Makenna goes back to the house and finds the woman and she has Lyle, her teammate. Makenna tries to get her to let Lyle go but she doesn't. She kills Lyle in front of Makenna. The woman disappears down into the tunnel again and Makenna tries to follow her. She can't find the woman but then goes back to the house. She goes looking for Channings team but can't find them. She realized that they left her there. She shouts something out and she hears her name. She finds Channing down a hole inside the bus. He can't get out so she goes to get the rope ladder she found. When he get out of the tunnel, he tells her that they needed to leave. They are being followed by the men from the village. They lose them when they find a cave to spend the night. She decides it is time for Channing to know the truth about what happened nine years before. At first, Channing doesn't want to know what happened but she tells him to just listen to what she had to say. After she tells him what happened, she asked him if he forgave her for what happened. He tells her that he did and that he missed her. The next morning they were woke up by gun shots coming inside the cave. They hear a helicopter shooting at cave but not inside. Channing tells her that they are not shooting at them and it was there for them. They see someone coming into the cave and she tells them she is there for them. She tells them that she is Ghost and if it wasn't for them being shot at they would not have been found. She gets Makenna ready to go up to the helicopter. After Channing gets inside the helicopter, something is said about the rest of her team and Channings. Makenna tells them that Lyle and Trent's bodies were still in the village and they needed to get them out. Channing agrees with Makenna about getting Lyle and Trent. When they get back to the states, Makenna makes sure that Lyle and Trent are known to be heros. Channing is busy with paperwork that is connected with taking out the drug lab. Channing wants to get over the past with what happened before and to do that, he needed to take Makenna to see his family after he talked to his twin brother Talon.
Will thing between Makenna and Channing go the way they want them too?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Review for MAN IN UNIFORM by Cassie Mae only:
4 stars — This was pretty adorable, and surprisingly satisfying for being a novella instead of a full length novel! As always, I love getting characters that are genuinely nerdy and awkward and dorky and normal.

Hazel was pretty cute in a down to earth way. She may have felt that she didn’t know who she was outside her YouTuber persona, but I think from what I can tell she was pretty genuine in all things. She faced some tough challenges in this story with a good balance of vulnerability and strength.

Hunter was adorable. I loved the close relationship he had with his siblings, and how important his job was to him…even as he faced his own challenges there.

Obviously it was the chemistry between the two of them that really stole the show. Watching them crush and flirt and just fumble and stumble around their mutual attraction while trying not to act on it was just fun to watch.

I can’t wait to read more in this new series, especially considering I bet there will be stories about Hunter’s siblings!!

I feel like I’ve struck gold!

This amazing anthology needs no sales pitch – just look at the list of contributing authors and you know you’ve got gold. Full disclosure: I have not yet read all 21 stories yet, but I can tell you that from the ones I have read so far, you won’t be disappointed. You will probably already be familiar with most of these authors but if not, this is a great opportunity to find a new favorite author to follow. There is a little bit of everything in here including lots of action, great locations, and plenty of romance ranging from sweet to steamy. So far, they have all been completely enjoyable as standalone stories even though I recognize some of the characters from series I already follow (Kendall Talbot included Delta Mission, an amazing prequel novella to her popular Alpha Tactical Ops series). I am also really enjoying the interconnecting characters that bridge one author’s work to another (after reading Delta Mission, be sure to read Mission Avenge by Jen Talty to see what I am talking about). This is a “can’t miss” opportunity. The icing on the cake is that the proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior charity to provide some much needed support for those brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country. To all veterans: Thank you for your courage and your service. To the contributing authors of this anthology: Thank you for your talent and generosity.

Roxanne Tully - Calling Dr. Hudson- this story was wonderful. Andi is a nurse while also trying to take care of her aunt. When a mistake is made and Kane Hudson reports her her life does a 180. This book had a few secrets and some twist and turns. I love the small bit even though I am wanting more of them.

I read Delta Mission by Kendall Talbot

An action-packed prequel to the Alpha Tactical Ops series.

Set in Afghanistan Makenna's team is there to take out a big drug operation, her ex Channing is also there, one of the soldiers and their relationship didn't end amicably, though there was plenty of miscommunication back then. Everything that could go wrong does and with Makenna and Channing at odds, working together starts off problematic. I enjoyed the action of this story and seeing the two reconcile after being thrown together as they run for their lives.

I'm going to have to read Mission Avenge by Jen Talon (part of the anthology) to get Channing's brother Talon's story.

Calling Dr. Hudson by Roxanne Tully

I really enjoyed this quick read. I loved the doctor/nurse relationship and how Andi had a crush on Kane but was invisible to him. Kane may have started out as a grump, but I loved how Andi stood up to him. I loved how, in such a short, read how much growth we saw in Kane. I would have loved to have more of these two!

This review is only about the following novellas: “Second Chance Secrets” by Katerina Simms, “Man in Uniform” by Cassie Mae

Review of “Second Chance Secrets” by Katerina Simms 5 stars.

This was my first time reading a book by Katerina Simms, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m so glad I read this. This novella was so well-written, emotional, and angsty. Engaging deep emotions in such a short book can be challenging, but I cried most of the time while reading, and that rarely happens. I didn’t catch any typos, grammatical errors, or formatting errors. The writing quality is top-notch. I will definitely be reading more from this author. I think this might actually be one of my favorite novellas.

Jenna and Rhys were each other’s first loves and maybe first of everything. I really loved that you could feel the characters’ emotions. You could feel Jenna’s heartbreak and Rhys’s deep regret. Jenna was strong, and her broken heart and broken trust did not disappear the instant Rhys expressed interest. Rhys fully understood how much his leaving broke Jenna’s heart and changed her. He knew he had to show her that things were different now.

Here are some beautifully written, angsty quotes:
“Ever his wild woman. But really, not his. So maybe just the woman he loved. That realization brought instant strain to his heart, but who was at fault for his misery, anyway? What a fool.”
“He stilled at her hidden meaning. That he liked being the hero. Just not when it mattered most. To her. Not in all the smaller ways a man could shine… being present. Making promises and damn-well keeping them. The pain of it all was that she was painfully right.”

I can’t help but feel like he didn’t love her enough 11 years ago because he didn’t try to find a way to make things work. Jenna begged him to stay with her, but he left anyway, leaving her alone while her father was dying (not that I think he should have stayed out of pity, but it really piles on the heartbreak). Jenna had a reason for not following him; she needed to take care of her dad. But why didn’t Rhys pick a big city close enough to Harlow that they could still be together? And why did he stay away for 11 years, not even visiting his family? Why did he hate Harlow so much? And why did it take him so long to satisfy his sense of adventure? I understand wanting to see more of the world, but I’ve never understood the need to do it alone. But despite all that, Rhys really did love Jenna, even if it wasn’t enough to stay the first time. And Jenna wisely doesn’t just take Rhys’s word that he’ll stay now.

I received a free advanced reader copy of “Second Chance Secrets” by Katerina Simms and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review of “Man in Uniform” by Cassie Mae 4.5 stars.

I always enjoy a good novella. This was well-written. The chemistry between the characters felt genuine. I felt the angst. Hazel’s character was so cute. I know there will inevitably be reviews criticizing Hazel for being a little ditzy (because, apparently, that also makes you a bad heroine), but it was authentic. Hazel is bright and has a heart of gold. She takes responsibility for her actions and learns from her mistakes. That makes the character growth more genuine.

I’m not entirely sure why Hazel didn’t just get let off with a warning when she got pulled over. The ticket didn’t seem necessary since she only swerved a little, and it was for a completely understandable reason. No one was hurt. I’m surprised Hunter didn’t change his mind after discovering Hazel was robbed immediately afterward.

I read Sealed with a Kiss by Aurelia Yates

This is a historical type romance novella. I devoured this story. It is instalove and has some spice. The historical elements were spot on.

When the mmc mails a letter while overseas, it accidentally gets delivered to the wrong address. The fmc reads the letter and decides to mail a letter back. This starts a beautiful romance, and they decide to meet when he gets home.

This was love/lust at first sight. It really pulled at my heart strings.

This author is so talented and can write anything from small town romance to dark romance.

I must start by saying I love all of the Alpha Tactical Ops books! This one is a prequel to the current series, with new characters but with the familiarity of the old names in the mix. Set in Afghanistan it is hard hitting in places but so well written, once again you can ‘see’ everything due to Kendall’s fantastic descriptions. As I say, I am an ATO fan and this does not disappoint!.

This is a review for Sealed With A Kiss By Aurelia Yates.

This Accidental pen pals romance was such a cute read, it was a novella so I sped through this book with in hours. This author continues to write charters that I love. The mmc was military while the fmc was still in college and I liked the dynamic between them, this was very much insta love from the first letter and the first time they see each other in person.

Kendall Talbot
Delta Mission, prequel - An entertaining read complete with military action, romance and forgiveness, with a touch of revenge/justice. Ms. Talbot is one of the few authors that will actually have me holding my breath or leaning forward with anticipation when reading action scenes. Ya never know what she is going to dish out. Great characters and story lines in this series. Source: Booksprout. 5*

Alpha Tactical Ops Series:
Escape Mission, #1 - I love every book I've read so far by this talented author. This book is full of excitement, danger, intrigue, good characters and good story lines. There is romance, too. The romantic are always in heat, and that's a bit distracting in several places in this book. I have a hard time believing a professional soldier, Special Forces Ops to boot, would let T&A interfere with his planning and thoughts when they are about to get involved with some bad business that could get them killed. She is out of her experience field and should only care that part filling out the seat of his jeans is keeping her pants safe. Otherwise, this is an awesome read! Multiple stories all well blended into a hard to put down read. Although flawed, from battles, the crew is a bunch of likeable, realistic folk. The civilians have their baggage, too, but go well with the rest. Not many of the baddies are known but even baddie Marcus is OK. 5*

Hostile Mission, #2 - Begins two months after Escape ends. Told from Levi's point of view, his romance, too. Interesting. Intense. Intriguing. Lots of action and events running through these story lines. An old enemy rears its ugly head while the gang works a job on the South Pole. Some hairy bits that add to making it hard to put this book down. A new love; new jobs; new characters. 5*

Rescue Mission, #3 - More fun, action, excitement and romance are found in this story. Hard to put down. I skip the sex scenes and edit out some of the vulgar language but any book by Ms. Talbot is worth reading. There is plenty of happenings for Ghost and Neon adding to their romantic beginnings. Well blended are the old story lines with the new. 5*

Stealth Mission, #4 - This series has been a great ride so far. The old story line of Scorpion and the unknown enemies blends well with the new story for Viper and his teammates. Besides a new romance, there are a lot of secrets, surprises and more questions. Well written, well thought out and fun to read, the talented Ms. Talbot gives us another entertaining, action-filled story with her brand of romance. 5*

Shadow Mission, #5 - It was great to get back to the missing submarine and the gold bars again. Yasmin is a very likeable character; Cobra comes off a bit "unmanly" sadly, his thoughts are not the usual team player. Unfortunately, there is an over abundance of vulgar language in this book, which became distracting and overwhelming. First time I wanted a Talbot book to end. Otherwise, the story was interesting. Heroes With Heart is a charity anthology volume 3 and my review is for Queen of Diamonds by Carina Alyce and it is Jordan and Claudia’s story from The Delta Force Investigations New Series. Jordan was a member of The Delta Force but he is now a police detective and liked order in his life but while trying to solve many break ins Jordan and his partner decide to stop for a coffee only for Jordan to scratch a car while parking and now he needed to make things right but things don’t always go as planned. Claudia had stopped for coffee and when she came out and there was a man by her car and even though she was sceptical he was so nice to her even after she was really wacky with him he still stayed calm. Jordan and Claudia decided to go on a brunch date together and he was not only cute but also a gentleman and they had so much in common only for Jordan to be called away because of another robbery and they had no clues so far to who was doing it. When Jordan and Claudia spent a explosive night together Jordan came across something unexpected the next morning in Claudia’s place throwing him for a loop but he had a job to do and determined to do it even though he was disappointed because he really felt a connection to Claudia. Omg I need the next part of this book so that I can see what the outcome would be and I couldn’t put it down as it was so addictive and definitely worth reading.

This is a romantic suspense novella and part of the Heroes With Heat and Heart Number 3 Anthology. This is my review for Second Chance Secrets by Katerina Simms and it is Jenna and Rhys story. Jenna and Rhys were high school sweethearts and each other’s first and then Rhys left to follow his dream to be a firefighter leaving Jenna behind and heartbroken but now Rhys is back after being away for eleven years and he has many regrets including leaving Jenna behind but sometimes things are not just black and white and time apart can change people and make them stronger but Jenna didn’t make it easy for Rhys even though deep down she still loved him but I could understand why Jenna was like she was because heartbreak like that takes a long time to heal and having trust in that person again is not easy. I absolutely loved this story and you could feel all the emotions and regrets and how they had to start to trust, communicate and fight for there second chance of happiness and a future together that they both deserved. I read this book in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down and wanted to see what the outcome would be for them in the end after everything that they had gone through and I can’t wait to read more books by Katerina Simms in the future.

I read In My Sights by D. Williams
*****
This is Priest AKA Darius Ortega the son of Dorian "Pinky" Ortega & William Ortega. No he didn't get his MC road name because he was born in a church. He went to seminary school to become a priest. He thought that was his calling, that is until he has what can only be described as "Love at First Sight".

He has a moment with a female soldier in the Army that was praying and looking for some kind of guidance, to come to terms with all she has scene and done in war. They both have this passionate moment and draw to one another. That is until the soldier flees, feeling such guilt for her actions and attraction to of all men a priest.

All Darius knows about her is her last name is Gonzalez, from her uniform. So he drops out of seminary and joins the Army with his Uncle Lucas "King" Cole and legacy in the MC Paradise and best friend Gavin “Hooper” Phillips. He hopes to have a run in with her but for years never crosses paths with her. It is not until his 21st birthday in the least likely place that he finally does. Boy it is a night to remember 🔥🔥🔥 These two heroes absolutely bring some heat and heart to this one.

If you are a fan of the Morningstar MC series this is a must read to get Milly & Priest back story for the next book. If this is your first time reading a Morningstar MC book this is the perfect glimpse and you are going to absolutely want to get your hands on all the books.

I will just leave you with 2 quotes from Priest mother, our beloved Pinky, when he tells her he wants to go to school to become a priest. These lines had me laughing and are why Pinky is one of my absolute favorite characters.....
"Just because he was born in a church doesn’t mean he needs to give his life to it. Have you ever even had sex? You can’t give something up without trying it first. For fuck sake, Willy, talk to the boy.” – Dorian “Pinky” Ortega "
“So you’re saying I can’t get him a hooker?” -Dorian “Pinky" Ortega
If you read her book you know you know. Must read for a glimpse into the next generation of Morningstar MC.
