Children love food, and this beautiful book will help them see God’s goodness and love in the food he provides for his children all through the Bible. From fruit trees in the garden, manna in the wilderness, and bread and fish by the sea of Galilee, to the final marriage supper of the Lamb, children will learn to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” In Taste and See , author Irene Sun and illustrator Hannah Y. Lu provide a bird’s eye view of the Bible using the idea of hunger and feasting to tell the story of redemption in a narrative poem set to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Children ages 4-7 will discover that everything their hearts hunger for can be found in Jesus—the one whose broken body and shed blood is made visible in the bread and wine we eat together to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection. Each meal we share until Jesus comes is a time to remember God’s love for all his children. The resource page at the end of Taste and See will equip parents to go deeper into these truths with their children. Taste and See is the first release in the Biblical Theology for Kids series.
What does food have to do with our faith? In Taste and See, Irene Sun shares God’s goodness and love in the food he provides for his children all through the Bible.
Biblical Theology for Children
What I love most about this book is how it helps you teach biblical theology to your children. Written for ages 4-7, this book will help them trace the fun subject of food throughout God’s Word with clever rhyming Biblical truths.
From manna in the wilderness to Jesus being the bread of life – there is a lot to learn! The beautiful illustrations by Hannah Y. Lu help give a sense of wonder and awe as we feast.
Do Not Live by Bread Alone
Parents don’t have to be afraid of teaching theology to their children. A resource page at the back of the book will help give you confidence as you share with your kids. I was even encouraged to speak on the marriage supper of the lamb in our Children’s Worship service at my home church!
My young children were interested in recognizing the foods that they knew in the book, and I enjoyed taking the opportunity to speak about Jesus. This book will help your family believe that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
I received a media copy of Taste and See and this is my honest review.
Beautifully illustrated and thoughtfully composed, Taste and See is a delight to the senses and a joy to the heart! Who knew "biblical theology" could be made so delicious that even kids such as myself can delight in and digest it. :)
Irene Sun’s Taste and See: All About God’s Goodness is a beautifully written book. Taste and See: All About God’s Goodness presents major stories/themes in the Bible from Genesis to Revelations in a way 4-7 year-olds can understand. Each page gives the Bible reference to what is being shared. Ms. Sun takes a unique approach in helping children learn what it means to hunger for the things of God by showing how food was used in the Bible at times to teach and minister about the things of God.
Irene Sun’s beautiful words about Biblical Truth along with Hannah Y. Lu’s illustrations make Taste and See: All About God’s Goodness an inspiring read. I love how Ms. Sun tells the story of Creation and the Fall and seamlessly leads us to the story of Jesus and the Cross and hints at what we have waiting for us on the other side and what is to come. I love how Ms. Sun references not only how God provides for our physical hunger, but our Spiritual Hunger as well. I love how the Bible References are included on each page. Because it is written like that, you could easily break up the book page by page and use it for a Family Devotion time or a Sunday School/Kids Bible Study. I really enjoyed Taste and See: All About God’s Goodness by Irene Sun (and Hannah Y. Lu’s illustrations were the cherry on top)! If you are looking for a fun and unique way to teach the kids in your life what it’s like to hunger for the things of God then I highly recommend Taste and See: All About God’s Goodness by Irene Sun!
I would like to thank New Growth Press for giving me a copy of this book to review. All thoughts, ideas, and opinions are my own. This review also appears on my blog, Leslie's Library Escape.
Food appears all throughout the Bible, from the garden in Genesis to Revelation and the marriage feast yet to come. In this book, Irene directs your focus to God, who has, in his goodness, provided both physical and spiritual food for his people. "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;" Psalm 34:8
The content is rich as it connects many Biblical passages and themes, and the spreads are beautifully illustrated.
Unique book that I am excited to have on my daughter's shelf!
If you want to expose your children to poetry at an early age, this is your book. It's more than just rhyme, which reminds us that the Bible is full of poetry. This book is a feast for the eyes and ears, if only it were scratch & sniff! It shows creation with breads making up the map. It highlights stories in the Bible that center around food from the fall to the wedding supper of the lamb.
