A crop of students suspects that a recruiting Space Marine captain isn't all he appears.

THE STORY When a Space Marine captain turns up at a schola progenium to take the best recruits for his Chapter, the students soon realise that something isn't quite what it seems…
Mike Brooks was born in Ipswich, Suffolk and moved to Nottingham when he was 18 to go to university. He’s stayed there ever since, and now lives with his wife, two cats, two snakes and a collection of tropical fish. When not working for a homelessness charity he plays guitar and sings in a punk band, watches football (soccer), MMA and nature/science documentaries, goes walking in the Peak District or other areas of splendid scenery, and DJs wherever anyone will tolerate him.
So the marketing of this short does the story something of a disservice- the blurb, cover and strap line all make it pretty clear what the plot is going to be, but despite this, it’s is an excellent short.
I could see this working so well as the script for an episode of Hammer and Bolter, or even better as the prequel for a novel, but as it stands it’s damn fine in it’s own regards.
The Alpha legion, masters of deception and infiltration. But what is the truth and what is the lie. Good short story, more Alpha legion stories needed please.
