Two months have passed since Elizabeth left Crompton Palace to join her brother Gregory in exile. Now she's two months wiser, two months tougher. But the runaway princess is no closer to finding her footing beyond the palace walls- and keeping her identity a secret is becoming harder every passing day.
Fortune changes when Elizabeth meets Matthias, a pagan with a kind voice, a facial tattoo, and the most striking cerulean eyes she has ever seen. With Matthias as their escort, Elizabeth and Gregory find themselves far from Christendom in the heart of the dreaded Skuge Forest. Despite Balmoral’s pagan propensities, Elizabeth finds comfort in her new home- and her blossoming feelings for her rescuer. But when she learns of a prophecy that fates her to marry the village's self-impressed chief, Elizabeth faces her biggest crossroads yet. Can she wed a man she can't stand to secure her family's place in their new home?
Or will she risk the wrath of fate to give her heart to a man she'd walk across hot embers for... even if he's cursed?
Elizabeth and Gregory are on the run in EMBERS OF FATE, living under secret identities and the constant fear that if they are discovered to be the prince and princess of Crompton, they will be killed for defying their abusive father. One of my favorite things about the first book, FIRES OF TREASON, was the strong sibling bond between Elizabeth and Gregory. That is still here in book two, as they work together to find food and figure out how to survive the winter. But my favorite thing about EMBERS is that Elizabeth has a delightful, swoony romance with Matthias, a pagan she encounters in what will probably go down as fantasy romance’s most adorable meet cute ever where they get locked in a prison cart together. The chemistry between Elizabeth (who must go by Dorothy to protect her identity) and Matt is undeniable. I adored their scenes together fishing, feeding ducks, and making blackberry tarts. Just such a sweet romance that fantasy romance readers will absolutely adore! Greg and Elizabeth find themselves stranded in Matt’s village for the winter, and when a prophecy comes into play (this was a really cool element of the book I loved!) Elizabeth finds herself being wooed by a character who had me reliving all of Gaston and Belle’s scenes together from Beauty and the Beast. Poor Elizabeth. Some great comedic moments in there and I love Elizabeth’s fire. Favorite moments: Elizabeth and her clever lute playing, clever plot twists towards the end!, the satchel, goats! This book was a delight from start to finish and I can’t wait for book three!
I received a complimentary copy of Embers of Fate as an ARC reader. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I loved the Fires of Treason but believe me when I say Embers of Fate blows it predecessor out of the water!
We join Greg and Elizabeth about two months since we left them in book one. Although it had been a while since I read the original book, I immediately fell back in love with these characters.
When Elizabeth meets Matt, she finds someone who makes her happy for the first time besides her brother. But their friendship isn’t meant to be. Especially not if Elizabeth wants to survive the winter in the pagan camp they find themselves stuck in.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but as a huge lover of romance, I adored the love interest added into this story. It was already a great plot, but adding in this element had me on the edge of my seat. And even better - it’s a slow burn relationship!
Quirke does an amazing job with this story. She continues to craft the sibling relationship between Elizabeth and Greg while fleshing out the new characters as well. I constantly found myself looking forward to reading the next chapter and once it ended I was already eager for the sequel.
*I had the privilege of beta reading this book and this is my honest, voluntary review.*
I had the pleasure of both beta reading and ARC reading this novel. It’s always a pleasure to see how a story improves and becomes polished to its best state.
And what a wonderful final story we have here! Everything that was great about the last book is built upon in this book! The relationships continue to grow in a realistic and organic way.
The new setting is wonderful, with so many great worldbuilding details. I loved seeing Liz and Greg adapt and learn as they face a new challenge. It makes both of them question themselves and their own goals.
The romance in here is utterly adorable. There’s just the right pacing and build up. By the end, you’ll be pinning just as much as Elizabeth is.
Plus, the ending! I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Definitely give this one a read. You can read it without having read Fires of Treason and still understand it but I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll miss so much.
Embers of Fate was such a sweet continuation of The Fires of Treason. This sequel follows Gregory and Elizabeth as they continue to search for safety after their exile from their royal exile. The same elements I enjoyed from book one are here in force with Elizabeth and Greg’s loyal sibling dynamic as well as the vivid depictions of a medieval life.
But this book also delves into more of a magical bent with the introduction of the Pagans and their prophecy, which was an intriguing addition. The relationship between Elizabeth and Matt was super cute and I loved watching them grow together. Greg too, also undergoes important development as well, though his story definitely seems to take a backseat to Elizabeth’s here. Overall this was a very satisfying read, and ends on a tense note that definitely promises more action in the next installment! Definitely recommended for fans of book 1!
I loved everything about this book! It was great to be back with Elizabeth and Greg, starting where the last book left them. The forbidden romance was everything and had me wanting to tear through the pages to see whether they got together. I love Michele's writing as it has all the elements of great description, wonderful dialogue, and fantastic characters. Can't wait for book 3!!
Disclaimer: I was a beta reader for this book, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I try to remain as unbiased as I can.
No sophomore slump for Michele Quirke. Embers of Fate is a fantastic follow-up, and in my opinion a stronger book than The Fires of Treason.
Embers of Fate sees Elizabeth and Greg having to deal with the fallout of the events of book one and their continued exile. After a chance encounter, the protestant siblings find themselves wintering in a pagan village. Elizabeth and Greg must overcome their own biases as they find their places among the villagers. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, many believe prophecy places her at the side of their arrogant chief. Will Elizabeth marry Eric? Or will her building love for Matthias, the cursed village outcast, be too strong to resist? I love this premise and the way it plays with the fated love trope.
While it does not slack on character development, I find Embers of Fate is much more plot-driven than the previous book. I found the story to be more exciting and engaging than The Fires of Treason, which did more to introduce us to the main characters, plus the kingdom and politics of Caracalla.
I guessed the big twist for the book pretty early on, but that didn't make me enjoy the plot any less. I couldn't wait to see how the characters unraveled everything. The story also wrapped up in such a satisfying way while still hitting us with one hell of a hook for the next book. I need book 3 stat.
I loved Fires of Treason by Michele Quirke, so when I heard she had released a sequel, I downloaded it immediately. I read Embers of Fate over a weekend. Like the first book, I found it fast paced and immersive. Much-anticipated, returning characters, as well as an intriguing new cast, provided the escape I was looking for.
I believe it was the inclusion of a stronger romance plot that stole my heart completely. For readers who do not typically read ‘romance’ books, I assure you that it is one of many plot threads and does not become the only focus. There is plenty of action and a further deepening of the stakes, especially with the concluding scene. Quirke both concludes this instalment and sets up the next book seamlessly.
If you’re looking for a fantasy story with intricate world building and conflict that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I suggest you abandon all other responsibilities until you’ve finished Embers of Fate! Thank you for an engaging read, Michele Quirke!
Embers of Fate is a delectable, historical fantasy treat!
I enjoyed Michele Quirke's first in her series, The Fires of Treason, and had some expectations of what the second book might hold. The strong, ever-present connection between the siblings, Greg and Elizabeth, was definitely present in this second book, even as the characters' predicament continued to have its ups and downs. But the plot of the book took me by surprise.
I knew there might be romance (I'm always a fan of a well done romance). But what I found completely intriguing was when Greg and Elizabeth were pulled into an isolated pagan village in the forest with its own beliefs and rituals, its own leadership that is separate from their tyrannical father, and even better, its own prophecy that somehow connects completely to Elizabeth!
This storyline was able to effectively put the siblings in a situation they couldn't have imagined ever being in and that's one of the reasons I loved it. If you'd asked them on page 1 if they were going to live in a pagan village because of a prophecy, I don't think they would have stopped laughing until page 75. It was the unexpected that challenged them, and we saw real growth in both characters that was so expertly carried out.
The romance between Elizabeth and Matthias held all the elements and their chemistry was undeniable. I enjoyed all the sweet, genuine moments between these two. Plus, the struggles they had to face for each other felt real.
All in all, Embers of Fate was a wonderful follow up to The Fires of Treason. Quirke can definitely count me in for book 3.
I was privileged to read this book as an ARC and provide an honest review.
Greg and Elizabeth, the siblings we loved in The Fires of Treason, return to their journey in The Embers of Fate. Their adventures lead them through peril, deprivation, danger, and, ultimately peace, albeit one that is ever at risk. Their loyalty, affection, and banter keep them close, even in the depths of despair. And, when joy rises, it is treasured and shared.
We follow Elizabeth as she blossoms, finding unlikely love as an exile in a Pagan world. Her soul mate, Matt, is a himself an exile, reviled by his peers. Their romance touches our hearts in its sweetness and delight. We root for the them, and Greg, to overcome all obstacles and regain their true inheritance.
Michele Quirke's snappy and engaging style is a joy to read. The dialogue is fresh and each character possesses a distinct voice. The environment she has created in her novels draws us in and gives us a front-row seat to the ancient myths and legends that propel the characters' world.
This is a beautiful book, with spectacular graphics, and a story that makes us yearn for more. What will come next for Greg, Elizabeth and Matt? I, for one, cannot wait for the next installment of this compelling series.
This second book in Michele Quirke's historical fantasy series is even harder to put down than the first. Picking up right where The Fires Of Treason ended it continues the story of the exiled Cavendish siblings, whose journey is about to take a highly unexpected turn.
There are a lot of changes in this book, and I loved every single one of them. For one thing it's no longer just Gregory and Elizabeth's story; a third, nearly as important character joins them: Elizabeth's new love interest Matthias. The two of them are so adorable together! Every scene they were in literally brought a huge smile to my face. Their blossoming relationship is so well written you can't help desperately wanting it to survive the obstacles it faces. Matt's presence also brings an interesting new shift in Greg and Elizabeth's relationship-- until now Gregory has been her sole protector so I was curious to see how another important figure entering Elizabeth's life would work out
The author proves herself to be a wonderful storyteller. Not just by the fascinating pagan mythology and engaging new characters she introduces us to, but also in the way she continues to show Gregory and Elizabeth growing as people. Both of them change in ways I wouldn't have imagined in book 1 and following their progress as they discover more about themselves, their world and each other was honestly a sheer joy.
I guessed in advance a big part of how this book would end but that didn't make reading it any less enjoyable. Fires Of Treason and Embers Of Fate are the kind of addictive stories that keep you thinking about them even after you've closed the book to do something else. This series has me completely gripped and I can't wait for the third installment. Absolutely brilliant
*I have received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review*
In Embers of Fate, we continue the journey of the royal siblings Elizabeth and Gregory as they’re on the lookout for a safe haven after Prince Greg has been exiled. In The Fires of Treason, we met the siblings and followed as they tried to adjust to a new life away from the luxuries. The story focused on their unconditional love for one another, which was what stood out the most for me.
However, in Embers we make a turn, focusing almost exclusively on the romance. —Enters Matt—. Gregory and Elizabeth find themselves in a sticky situation that lands them on a small town of pagans, where the story will develop, and here we find Matthias, who Bess is quick to befriend. It was a quick and easy to read story, with some new and interesting characters that gives us the opportunity to explore different sides of the siblings and their surroundings.
In regards of romance, it was insta-love from the first couple of pages (in my opinion), but it was interesting to watch how that went alongside the story, and how it could possibly take us back to the events from the first book.
(This book was given to me for ARC reading in exchange for an honest review and some aspects may change upon the release of the book.) I'm just... I'm at a loss. It was quite a wait between the first book and this one, and there were so many ways this story could've gone. My brain was abuzz with possibilities leading up to the day when I'd finally get to read this.
Oh my god, it lived up to the hype and so, SO much more.
The conflicts in this story were absolutely sublime; each of the characters felt very human and their struggles so real, they each have their limits and lash out once they hit them. All the resolutions feel very natural and it's not only never forced, but always wholesome and immensely enjoyable to read. The characters were all great in their own ways, with their own motivations, lifestyles and beliefs all being covered in some way or another, and it's all so much fun to take in and learn about! The romance, oh my GOD the romance! It's an amazing slow-burn that never gets old or, again, feels forced, it's organic, realistic and each time there's something new for Elizabeth and Matt to do and the ending just makes it that much sweeter! Absolutely ADORED the romance!!
What shocks me most, though, is that I legitimately cannot find anything in the story itself which I deem worthy of critique, anything I took issue with; it's as close to perfection as I've ever read, and I don't even believe in perfection! The MOST I can think of is that there's quite a few interruptions in the dialogue? But nothing for the story itself, I'm stunned! I'd rate this 6 stars if I could, ABSOLUTELY PICK THIS UP!
It’s a second book, following The Fires of Treason, where the heart-warming story of siblings in the exile continues. I was really looking forward to reading it and have to say; it was worth the wait! The relationship between brother and sister evolved so much! The weight of this new situation they found themselves in travelling through the unknown lands was amazingly shown through their arguments, actions, and thoughts. Yet, not for a moment I doubted their brother-sister love.
And the new element in the story: romance. I’m running out of words to describe how good it was. Everything from the pacing, conflict, reasoning through obstacles, development and representation of the feelings. It was both slow and intense. Dangerous and calming. Full of dramatic twists, insecurities and tension, but most importantly, filled with friendship and love. It’s a spoiler free review, so I can’t tell you the details, but let me just say: I was impatiently waiting for any scene in which the couple got to touch each other.
Final part absolutely worth mentioning is the world-building. Everything in the book was vivid with colors and mood, filled with traditions, rituals and new to characters (and readers!) ways of living. From beliefs, to daily work and entertaining activities, everything was there!
I definitely recommend this book to fans of historical fiction and slow burn romance, who enjoy intrigue, believable characters and gripping story from the first to the very last page!
What else can I say except I really liked this? I really enjoyed continuing the adventures of the dynamic sibling duo. Gregory and Elizabeth once again have to work together as a team to survive undercover, their royal heritage a curse more than a blessing. Speaking of curses, Elizabeth meets a cursed boy who leads her and Gregory to his village, only to find Elizabeth is a part of a grand prophecy. Overall, the story is engaging. Elizabeth is a brat sometimes, and Gregory can be overbearing, but the two are recently disgraced royalty still finding their footing in the world. The two do have little spurts of growth throughout the book, both individually and with each other. My only minor complaint is that I didn't find the antagonist compelling. He felt more like an obstacle than a person. There is also very little tension until the very end of the book. But the forbidden romance between Liz and Matt is charming and wholesome. A wonderful follow-up to the first novel!
Michelle Quirke’s Embers of Fate is an exceptional story about two siblings and their adventures in a medieval world. What I love most is the character development of the two siblings throughout their adventures. They, like real siblings, hilariously burn and antagonize each other, completely, and yet they love and protect each other along the way. The plot has so much, yet because of her clean an linear writing skills, it reads easy and fun. It is truly a testament to indie writers that produce quality books. The formatting is GORGEOUS! I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves to read, especially historical fiction. A big thank you and congrats are deserved for this amazing author!!!
Well talk about continuing a series with a bang! I enjoyed Book 1 very much but Embers was even better. Ex royals Elizabeth and Gregory continue their journey into exile while navigating their sibling bond and meeting some new friends - plus some enemies - along the way. The bickering between them was just as funny and realistic as in The Fires of Treason, I laughed out loud when E told G to pull the stick out of his arse. The plot was tight and intriguing, pulling you into the story effortlessly. Elizabeth’s romance with the troubled pagan Matt was beautifully written, showcasing young and forbidden love with skill and empathy. I’m still waiting for Greg to get his own Happy Ever After and I hope the decision he made near the end (no spoilers!) helps him find it. The epilogue had me on tenterhooks and I can’t wait for Book 3!
I had the pleasure and opportunity to read this book as an ARC. Embers of Fate is a love story disguised as historical fiction. It’s a slow burn, love story mainly from Elizabeth’s POV. Did I like it? Absolutely! When I say it’s a love story disguised as historical fiction, I mean it in a good way. It’s a fantastic love story with the background of historical fiction. It reminds me oddly of the little mermaid with a princess of one world falling in love with a man from a world so different than her own. I look forward to the next installment. A solid story that is sure to find a vast following of fans.
For me, this was a beautifully written sequel to Fires of Treason. We discover new depths of the characters as they continue to survive, but we are also given a moment to cherish as Elizabeth finds her true path. Embers of Fate shares with us, the readers who are journeying with the banished pair, a chance to enjoy a respite from the political turmoil and familial differences that can only lead to war, and Quirke masterfully reminds us of this when we reach the end of the book ... life can't stay perfect and rosy forever! I absolutely loved it, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical novels with a spatter of romance thrown into the mix!
I loved the first book in this series, but Embers? Blew it out of the water. The ROMANCE in this one! So freaking sweet. There's pining and subtle touches and lingering looks and ugh, my heart. 100% my favorite part of the book. But the rest of the plot isn't to be disregarded. It's cleverly written, and moves along at the perfect pace. The pagan village is so much fun to read about, and I loved hating Chief Erik! In fact, all of the characters were endearing in their own ways.
So yeah, I absolutely loved this book. Go. Read. You won't regret it.
Embers of Fate is a wonderfully written sequel to The Fires of Treason. Again, Quirk makes a fine job of world building, and the conflict and many plot threads and twists have you turning the pages. This author is a master at character development, and authentic relationships—with the addition of some great new characters. The romance—delightful, tender, and perfectly executed. I admire Quirk’s clever writing style and am super-excited about book 3! This is a book I’d highly recommend. If you’ve not read Fires of Treason yet, grab it today, then get straight onto Embers of Fate. You won’t regret it!
I received an advance-review ebook from the author.
This sequel to Fires of Treason tests the bond between exiled siblings Gregory and Elizabeth as they take refuge in a pagan community and stumble into a conspiracy of Shakespearean proportions. Although Greg and Elizabeth keep their royal identities hidden, the pagans believe she is destined to wed their chief and free a trapped deity. For their safety, Greg urges her to pretend to go along with it, at least until they can get through the mountains to the sea and a ship to safety. But she despises Chief Erik and finds herself drawn to the outcast, cursed Matthias. As friendship blossoms into love, her own secrets eat at her. Can she trust a man who was cursed for his father’s crime? Meanwhile, threats close in as the siblings work to solve a mystery and seek their own destinies.
I very much enjoyed this second outing in Quirke’s historical fantasy tale. Elizabeth and Gregory love and support each other, while continuing to bicker in believable sibling fashion. They have no one but each other as the story opens. Even after they take shelter with the pagans, Greg is focused on earning enough money for them to escape the country, while Elizabeth is making friends and learning new skills; growing from girl to woman. And falling for the one boy she’s supposed to avoid! Their slow burn romance grows quite steamy even when the participants can’t touch skin to skin. They seem well matched, so it’s not hard to believe they would battle fate to be together. The ending was satisfying, with enough unresolved to point to the next exciting episode.
An incredible follow-up to an already amazing series!
I fell in love with Gregory and Elizabeth way back when, and I was eager to dive back into their adventure through exile. While I appreciated the sibling-focused story in The Fires of Treason (a totally underappreciated relationship in literature) I was SO excited for the prospect of introducing a love interest!
Matthias Dahl comes with good looks, a likable personality, and a LOT of drama surrounding his circumstances when Elizabeth and Gregory find themselves stuck in his world during their interim in Balmoral. I really loved Quirke's approach to two disparaging religions and how the characters interacted with one another based on their beliefs, but what I loved the most were the swoon-worthy (and tension-filled!) moments shared between Elizabeth and Matt as their torrid relationship blossomed from friendship into sweet, sweet forbidden desire.
It checked all the boxes, and with the epic ending, I'm on SO many pins and needles for the next book. I can't wait to see all the arcs come together for what promises to be an incredible continuation of an amazing saga featuring sibling loyalty, tested boundaries, and both the defying of--and eventual embracing of--a person's fate.
** I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
I was asked by Michele to review this book as somebody who hasn't read the first book to answer her question on whether the story works on its own, and I can honestly say yes, it does. There weren't any points in the book where I felt confused by what was happening. Michele was able to explain everything that happened clear enough without info-dumping what had transpired in the previous book.
The book starts following Greg and Elizabeth a short while after the events of the 1st book 'FIRES OF TREASON'. Shortly after, Elizabeth meets Matt, a pagan, hated by most.
I found all the relationships between the characters realistic and organic, but I especially enjoyed the romance between Matt and Elizabeth. I do love a slow burn and this was paced just right. It was great to see how Elizabeth's character grew throughout, and how she fell for the boy she was meant to avoid. Overall I think the story was wonderfully written, well-paced and action-packed. I didn't feel like there were any lulls in the story and was always eager to keep reading (even when I needed to sleep xD). The world-building was just superb and well thought out.
I definitely recommend this book to fans of historical fiction and slow-burn romance.
This sequel to The Fires of Treason is phenomenal! I loved it even more than the first book, and I'm really looking forward to book three in the series. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I discovered I was wrong, and that made me very happy. Quirke writes a polished, well thought out story with a superior knowledge of its specific time period. The tension throughout the book is palpable and the slow burn romance really becomes the star of the story. While Elizabeth can be trying at times, readers need to remember that she is only sixteen years old and her willful ways and naive behaviors are part of growing up, which she does splendidly. This is one of the best books I have read so far this year, and I give great kudos to the author for not only writing a wonderful story, but for the impeccable editing (which seems to be lacking in the publishing industry lately). Quirke's writing is melodic and poetic, and reading her work is like sitting on the banks of a river and letting the sound of the rushing water take you to a completely new world.
Some of my favorite passages from the book (of which there were many):
"The morning sun peeked over the mountains to announce the new day, bathing every leaf and blade of grass in its vivid marigold beams."
"An eerie fog swallowed the valley, draping a vaporous veil over the entire landscape."
"She prayed her smile was one of compassion, rather than a testament to the thousands of shards of misery her heart was shattering into."
"The rain fell as a mist, fogging the air and clinging to the trees in glittering, silver droplets."
I loved book one of this series, with its powerful, positive sibling dynamic (something too infrequently seen in fiction). This second installment continues with that incredible sibling relationship, but adds a thread of romance for Elizabeth, and let me just say, it's incredibly sweet. You will fall in love with Matt almost immediately. He's adorable! His relationship with Elizabeth is a sweet slow-burn, and it made me smile so much while reading! No spoilers, but the plot is interesting as well, as Greg and Elizabeth stay in the pagan village of Balmoral and interact with its chief (Erik, ew) while considering their futures. As I said, I loved book one, but with the romance introduced in book two, I can say I loved Embers of Fate just as much, and probably a bit more. Now to add another layer of romance in book three, with Greg... Stoke the embers! Read this wonderful historical fiction novel today!
The Embers of Fate is everything I expected and more! I was thrilled to be back with Elizabeth and Greg. This is definitely the type of book you won’t want to put down and an amazing historical fiction novel.
I absolutely loved the romance! It was a beautiful and sweet slow-burn that had me rooting for the characters the entire way through.
I look forward to seeing what the next installment will bring to our heroes.
Disclaimer: I was provided an ARC by the author. I am voluntarily leaving this review and these opinions are my own. I will be purchasing the paperback because I loved it so much.
Loved the way in which the drama and adventure in this second book is intertwined with the moral growth of Elizabeth as she navigates the difficult path between recognising all her brother has done for her, yet not allowing him to dictate her actions when she knows she is following the correct path.
I enjoyed the new characters: despising Eric (don’t you just hate him!) and absolutely loving Matthias (such a sensitive and lovely character). I also really liked the way the book focuses on the shades of grey in all ethical issues, with good and bad among both the pagans, and the people of Gregory’s Kingdom.
Royal siblings Elizabeth and Gregory return in Embers of Fate, the sequel to Michele Quirke's debut novel The Fires of Treason. I was curious to see what would happen next for the exiled pair and found the plot development in this book to be unexpected but intriguing. My favourite element had to be the blossoming romance between Elizabeth and Matthias. It was very sweet and I liked the slow burn aspect of it.
Also, hats off to the author for writing an epilogue that will leave her readers eager for the release of the third book in this series!
“Embers of Fate” is the followup novel to “The Fires of Treason,” which I read last year, by the terrific indie author Michele Quirke. What an absolute delight it was to be invited to join the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) team. I was able to read and finish this story just days before its formal publication. And I've already ordered my paperback copy, which I am looking forward to getting signed by the author next month at a book event! The continuation of the adventures of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Gregory, now on the run from the events in the first book, tells how they must protect their identities as they also protect each other. With winter rapidly approaching, the siblings find themselves waylaid in a remote pagan forest village—that has its own scandals and intrigue afoot. The introduction of Matthias—a pagan outcast with a pretty big secret fate, is brilliant. As was the case in “The Fires of Treason” I believe that the dialogue and strong character development are the authors strong suits here. And I must confess that as an author myself, I am absolutely thrilled to see how Ms. Quirke has evolved and finely tuned her craft in storytelling and writing. Everything in the novel is perfect. I have been informed that there will be a third part to this story, and cannot wait to dive back in! Bravo Ms. Quirke! Please take a bow!
