Holiday #4

The Sweet Escape

Rate this book
This is book #4 in the Holiday Series.

Eleanor Enger met someone special and thought they might have a chance at being more than friends of friends, but then Carmen McClain showed up to a weekend away with those friends with a date attached to her hip, and Ellie knew she’d lost her shot. When her little brother is kicked out of their parents’ house, Eleanor finds herself acting as parent and sorting through his problems while trying to deal with her own.

Carmen McClain just opened a bakery with her two best friends and had planned on having some one-night fun and maybe a casual relationship or two because she didn’t have time for anything serious while being so focused on the business. When her best friend’s new girlfriend came with a lot of close friends as a package, Carmen began spending more time with one of them and started thinking that casual might not be what she wants, after all.

Eleanor’s crush turned into something more, and Carmen realized she didn’t want to be just friends right around the time of her birthday, which happened to be on Halloween, while her holiday-obsessed parents are having a special birthday event for their daughter that they do every year. Watch Eleanor and Carmen fall in love over cupcakes, coffee, and a haunted house.

'ARC generously given by The Author in exchange for a honest review'

**'Most readers comes to a story as willing accomplices to whatever the writer weaves because sometimes it's not what they write, it's the way or how they tells their story..'

Elating read!
Another spicy 4th book in this ongoing series centering on Eleanor & Carmen but also interweaving other developing relationships and those pesky close friends along with their girlfriends. It's about their (Elly & Carm) romance and their journey to first falling in love -- but in order to get there they had to finagle their way to overcoming a few obstacles in both their lives.
It's classic Nicole Pyland's fast moving storytelling where the potential couple meets one day, have a quick connection, lots of flirty conversations, have one or two dates then lots of hot steamy sex, two weeks the 'I love you's' are thrown out then flash to said new girlfriend is introduce to the group of friends (Weston, Talon, Aria, Paisley & Scarlett) and finally they u-haul after a month of being in a relationship.
Overall, 'THE SWEET ESCAPE' is entertaining, enjoyable and is also a nicely written love story.
A recommended book #4 in the Holiday series!

Cupcakes and muffins.

This is the 4th book of the Holiday series which features six friends in a core friend group and this, in my opinion, is way too many when you count their partners too. And if that isn't enough, we have London from Book 3 who brought with her another two friends, Mariah and Carmen; and Mariah goes and adds on a plus one, and... You get the picture.

That aside, this story belongs to Eleanor, one of the core friends and quite frankly I don't remember much about her in the last three books. There are characters in the friend group who stood out, like Aria and Talon, but not Ellie for me, and the only thing I remembered about her was that she had what seemed like a slight interest in Carmen. This appears to grow into a crush and Carmen remains clueless in this book although not for long. Carmen begins noticing Ellie quite soon into the book and the romance between them is so incredibly sweet (and yes, with cupcakes and muffins too) and I simply can't get enough of it even though I thought they could have waited a bit longer to declare their love for each other. I also really love that we get to see the supportive side of both of them - Ellie, as she helps her brother unconditionally through a crisis and Carmen, as she remains supportive by Ellie's side as she deals with a family situation.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and I simply can't wait for the next book to be out. The only two friends left unattached are Scarlet and Paisley, both of whom I have a very vague impression of so my curiousity is piqued.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is fourth in a romance series where the friend group is tightly entwined. So you've seen both Eleanor and Carmen before and I recommend reading the other stories first to get that full impact. But you don't have to.

I let this go way too long and I regret it. But only a little bit, because it's pretty standard for Pyland and if you're following my recommendation to read them in order, you know what you're getting (including the awful cover that is Pyland's ongoing experiment to see if she can overcome visual marketing setbacks by sheer quality stories). And Carmen and Eleanor are pretty great. I particularly enjoyed Carmen bonding with Eleanor's brother, Emmett, and how that played into the strength of their relationship.

And I don't have much more to say. Because I let this review go too long. Five stars, but that's kind of my default for Pyland.

A note about Steamy: Yeah, I forget the details of this one, too. Middle of my steam tolerance, probably, so a handful of explicit scenes with reasonable length.

Liked it enough to finish the book. It was almost angst-free, two MCs getting to know each other and liking each other at the end of it all. And plenty of cupcakes to savor throughout the read.

This is the fourth book in Pyland’s Holiday Series and I highly recommend reading the other three books before venturing to read this one.

In book three we get introduced to London and her friends. This friend group mixed with the one already established in book one and two. What is clear by the end of book three gets developed in The Sweet Escape: the story of Ellie and Carmen. I was pretty excited to read this one because Ellie is just so likeable, she seems like the best of all the other friends combined in one package. I actually like how this is described in this book as well. Aria has this dialogue with Carmen, describing Ellie as being like all of her friends, she has pieces of all of them and something unique to Ellie. And it’s so true, I got that even before that line. I must say I didn’t like how this book started (or book 3 ended). The Labor Day weekend to which Carmen brings this weirdly clingy person she’s seen twice before. So unfair to Ellie. Anyway, that gets resolved in a way that seems suiting and something I would rather not read about again. I don’t like that character much.
Back to Ellie and Carmen. Ellie is always supportive and looking out for others, Carmen is there for her when she needs support and most of Ellie’s friends are couples up and/ or too busy. I like how the relationship evolves. Do they move slightly quickly? Oh sure, I love you’s are said too soon, but I don’t really mind because they are just adorable.
Also, with a girlfriend like Carmen, bringing delicious bakery items every day, I’d get fat in a week. Good thing they find ways to burn all those calories ;)

This is the newest addition to the holiday series and follows Eleanor and Carmen. They've been introduced to each other through Aria and London and Eleanor has developed a crush she doesn't think is reciprocated. As Carmen spends more and more time with Eleanor though she finds she is ready for more than her typical casual relationships.
I really love the series that Nicole Pyland writes, I love that we get to follow a whole group of friends throughout, seeing glimpses of characters from previous books as well as characters we know we will see in future. This group of friends is one of my favorite though, I like their chemistry together and that they have so much history with each other. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and this one throws in a fun haunted house scene that I really enjoyed, but would have loved to see the holiday played up a bit more than it was. Ellie and Carmen are engaging MCs and I really liked the storyline with Ellie's brother. I am eagerly awaiting Scarlett's story as she's the one I feel closest to personality wise. Can't wait for the next one!

Book 4/7 and for me the best book.
It has so many elements and was so well written. There’s drama but it can be so funny at the same time.

Comparing this book with the previous books I consider this has the best balance between the steamy scenes and how the relationship is built; I enjoyed the POV from the outside about how the dynamics of the group are changing for those who aren’t in new relationships.

Enjoyable to have a support story with such impact in the main story. You don’t get lost, but you enjoy that the world is not centered only on two people.

I loved Ellie, she was real and the fact that she was interested in Carmen first, that Carmen didn’t acknowledge Ellie for a while was also a nice new addition.

Eleanor and Carmen first meet at the fireworks. Eleanor then starts going to the bakery to see Carmen. Carmen doesn’t think she has time for a relationship until her and Eleanor start spending time together as friends. They fit together so well and decide to take the next step and date. They really take the time to get to know each other. Eleanor has family issues to deal with and Carmen stayed by her side through it all. Another great story in the series. I love all the characters so much.

This is book 4 of the series, and a wonderful book it is! Ellie is so sweet and we find out Carmen is too. Ellie is really attracted to the red headed, blue eyed Carmen and her delicious baked goods. But Carmen doesn't see her at first, but when she does, sparks fly! This is a sweet, beautiful slow burn love story! 5 stars!

The fourth installment of the Holiday series features the budding relationship between Eleanor and Carmen. It’s cute, uncomplicated, and sweet. The absolute best part of the whole thing was their time in the haunted house!

The Sweet Escape is book number four in the Holiday Series, with Halloween being the special occasion this time around.
Eleonor has a crush which she thinks she is keeping to herself; however, her group of friends know better. Most have fallen in love recently, so recognise what smitten looks like.
Carmen on the other hand has no idea that she is the object of Eleonor’s affections. Focusing on her newly established business, her small group of friends, and trying to find hook-ups with no strings is keeping her busy.
As their friendship builds, Carmen begins to see that this new friendship has the potential to build into much more.
As usual, Nicole Pyland has successfully written unique, relevant characters, whose development throughout the story is just one reason to keep turning the pages. Her dialogue is snappy and realistic. The relationships between the friendship group the series is built around continue to develop as each new story is released, and if you are into feel-good, slow-burn romances, I recommend taking a look at The Sweet Escape.

This was a sweet romance with two lovely protagonists, my first by this author. I'm happy I have the next two in the series to listen to and continue this eclectic group of friends as they find their happily ever afters.

I love, love, love Eleanor & Carmen's story! This one has been my absolute favourite of the series so far! The care they provided each other before finally coming together was beautifully written and the author takes great care of her characters. I enjoyed Carmen's storyline of being a former lover of London's and how that affects her daily and a bit in creating her own relationship. One of the things I loved as well was that there was very little conflict between the two main characters…this was a nice change! I could read an entire series just of Eleanor & Carmen's love story! Well done Nicole Pyland!

new series favourite

One of Pyland’s special talents is that the next book always becomes my favourite in the series. And Ellie is so deserving of her HEA, she is the glue that keeps this group of friends together. We know from the previous book that she’s crushing on Carmen and she is crushed when Carmen brings another woman to their weekend away. Carmen is a bit slow to realise that she in fact likes Ellie and that the feeling is reciprocated. In fact this book starts with the angst, so that’s different. The added story of Emmet is a nice bonus in this book. All in all, another great book from this author.

This book was really sweet, pun intended! When they started hinting at this couple in the previous book I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, which was a disappointment because I loved Ellie, but actually getting to learn more about Carmen and fully developing her character was so good, and I ended up loving them both.

You really just feel for Ellie in this book, she is such a good big sister. And Carmen’s support of her throughout, leading to their relationship, felt natural and made a lot of sense. The last two books in this series were really strong for me, so I hope this momentum continues.

You fall easily into The Sweet Escape with the banter and love between a group of longstanding friends which is second to none and something a lot of people would give anything to have. This book in the series focuses on Eleanor and Carmen. The story has a good rhythm with fantastic scenes containing brilliant one liners, humour, romance, and heart-warming moments. The Halloween party is a total scream!

I can’t wait for the next novel and would highly recommend not only this book but all the series.

Finally

Once Carmen opens her eyes and sees what is right in front of her, everything changes for the best. I love El and her brother. I would say her parent’s should never had been parents, but then there would be no El or Emm. Great story and I love how large the friend group is getting.

This is the 4th book in the series and Pyland continues to draw readers in. As I was reading I became attached to Eleanor and Carmen. Pyland is able to draw you into the story and fall in love with her characters. Can’t wait for the 5th book in the series!

This 4th book in the Holiday series picks up just before the previous book in this series ends. It's Eleonor and Carmens story. Both a friend of each MC from book 3. Ellie one of Aria's and Carmen one of London's. I strongly recommand reading the books in this series in order, because all characters appear frequently in every book. You could say all the books make a long story were every next book changes pov because of the new leading characters. I like that concept, but it also makes the books look alike a bit sometimes. That's why I usually read a completely different book in between. Though I don't leave too much time between reading the books in the series because I don't want to lose touch.

It was nice to read this story about two people meeting through mutual friends like normal people instead of love at first sight soulmates with electric vibes right away. Just two nice normal people getting to know each other in a normal way.

There were some things I liked less:
- Ellie's brother Emmet.
- Why these characters are looking for someone to just have sex with and then meet a person they want more than just sex with and then holding of sex because they're not ready to have sex with them.
- Talking about having sex before the first kiss and then refrain from doing it. People really do that? It builds up the tension nicely though.
- The haunted house chapter. That was over the top for me and not exactly thing.

I liked the steamy parts though. There's this very sexy phone sex scene and also some other spicy stuff. But I do want to say that shower sex is overrated.

“I’m Waverly Earp,” Talon explained. “An angel with a dark side, and Emerson is Nicole Haught, the Purgatory town sheriff.”

This is the best thing in the whole book and of course it’s Talon and Em who’s is dressing up as one of the best sapphic couples 🔥🔥.

The Sweet Escape is the fourth book in the Holiday Series. The feel of this book seemed a little bit different than the rest of the series because both the MCs are part of the “friends group”, one directly and one indirectly. I enjoyed how when you switched between Ellie and Carmen’s POVs, all the supporting characters were closely included that it made it flow seamlessly. Plus… it’s Halloween.

Eleanor (Ellie) is from the main group of friends. She surprised me because her appearances in the previous books didn’t seem to capture “her” at all, at least to me. Ellie’s one of those hard working dependable people that often get taken for granted. Sometimes you don’t “see” them. Which is probably how I may have overlooked her in the other books. Carmen is the object of her affection, and happens to be the best friend of Ellie’s best friend’s girlfriend. Sounds confusing, but it’s not. Carmen is “cool”. She might even try a little too hard to keep up that image but she reaches a point where she starts to question her choices. While she’s trying so hard to figure out/find what she wants, she completely misses what is right in front of her… aka Ellie. You know, the one who’s overlooked. The two end up finding out they are the new person each other can count on. On the way you meet the families along with the good and the bad that come with them.

This story is not an epic second chance at first love or steamy office romance. (But don’t worry… there’s still steam) It’s a SWEET story about all little things that mean so much. It’s a story that has a lot of heart. You can’t help but fall in love with how amazing both of them are. I’ve loved all the books in this series so far. There’s still one that I’m really looking forward to, but with that said I think this just might be my favorite.
