What happens next after you try and still fail?

This new-to-me author cemented herself as an auto-read author after a few chapters. I knew that she wrote how and what I like to read.

✔️ Character-driven romantic suspense
✔️second chance slow-burning sweet romance
✔️Alaskan author writing about Alaska
✔️faith elements/Christian read

Griffin Knight blames himself for the death of a woman he was sent to rescue. He has since refused to do any rescue work and refused to pull his girlfriend into his downward spiral, so he abandons her when she needs him the most.

When Police Captain, Bre Dayton’s 17-year-old niece, Abby, a teen in her care since her parents died, goes missing in the Alaskan wilderness, Bre fears she’ll be the 5th victim of the Echo Pass Hunter. Her fear of this serial killer drives her to ask help from the last person on earth she wants to see - Griffin.

I love reading books where characters face their fears and conquer them rather than be controlled by them. This one was refreshingly different because although the main character has a strong faith connection, he was doubting himself and his abilities. Bre is the one who questions the existence of God in the midst of all her grief, rather than the male main character. I enjoyed the examination of their reliance on God in bolstering their courage and watching them learn to be brave and trust their instincts.

I’m not a dog person, but I’ve come to love the cute Huskies I’ve seen in Alaska. This book features a K9 Search And Rescue dog, Ember. It always amazes me how intelligent these trained animals are and how useful they are to a rescue.

The best part was reading about Griffin and Bre learning to work together to bring down the serial killer lurking in the wilderness. I loved the tension when the killer had them in his crosshairs and they were running through the Alaskan wilderness while he shot at them.

Varland’s message about finding hope despite circumstances was a welcome encouragement. I’d recommend this book about three broken souls who fought to overcome.

I’m looking forward to Varland’s next book in this series, Alaskan Wilderness Rescue.

Alaskan Mountain Search is a fast-paced, exciting story. A teenager is missing and a serial killer is on the loose. The teenager is police captain Bre Dayton’s niece and she is convinced that the only way to find her is to enlist the help of her ex, search and rescue worker Griffin Knight, and his K-9 companion, Ember, an Alaskan Husky.

This suspenseful story just flew by and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The romance between Bre and Griffin was a slow burn and a sweet romance, and I enjoyed the way they learned to trust each other again, and become friends and then more. The star of this story, in my opinion, is Ember, the intelligent husky rescue dog! I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book will appeal to those who are deeply religious and are also pretty much against woman's lib.

I'm sorry to say that I really didn't find this a good book. The story itself was just unbelievable; the religious aspect was very strong (this was REALLY religious, with one person being against religion and the other being overly religious).

Police captain Bre Dayton, was talking Griffin Knight into becoming a rescue worker that was looking for Bre's sister, who was missing. But instead of having him help Captain Bre, he took over everything. This was unbelievable to me. The plot was minor and unbelievable, and Griffin Knight was utterly annoying.

"Alaskan Mountain Search" is a Christian romantic suspense. Griffin blames himself for the death of a woman he was trying to save. He saw her right before a human-triggered avalanche buried her. He wasn't as careful as he should have been so is sure he caused the avalanche. He refuses to do a search and rescue again (or be there for his long-time friend Bre) because he's sure he'll mess up so badly that it's better to hurt others by withdrawing his help than by chancing failure. Bre's life has been full of people leaving her, so it's not surprising to her that Griffin abandoned her when she needed him. But the last family she has left, her niece, is missing and probably the victim of a serial killer. She pesters Griffin to help her until he agrees. As they work together, both come to realize just how insecure the other feels.

Bre respects Griffin's knowledge of how to use K9s for searching while Griffin clearly respects Bre's knowledge and skill as a cop. So it seems like they ought to be a good match in terms of long friendship and mutual attraction and respect. It just saddens me that Bre isn't interested in any man except for the one who doesn't like to open up about what's bothering him and so leaves her baffled by why he keeps leaving her feeling abandoned. They do start working through these issues and improving their communication. It's: run from the killer, then work through their issues while forced to spend time together, repeat.

Bre didn't believe in God because of all the brokenness she's seen in the world. Griffin tried to explain why he still believed in a good, powerful God despite living in a broken world. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.

This one takes place in Alaska in winter. A serial killer is on the loose and must be caught before more women go missing and are killed. Good plot and location. And there is a dog!

My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book.

Her niece is missing? Addy’s car is found in the pass where they have found four dead women.

Bre ask God how he could do it to her again? She had already lost so many. Griffin and his dogs help her look again in places the others couldn’t get. Her niece was told never to go hiking alone in that pass. Bre had been part of the police force that found the previous bodies and knew someone was deliberately killing the women they had found.

Action packed search

Bre is looking for her niece who went missing where 4 other women have been killed by a serial killer. Then the killer takes shots at her. Griffin, an old friend with search dogs, decides to help her search, but they have a lot of unresolved issues to work through. Plus the killer seems to be targeting Bre now. Will they find her niece and figure out who the killer is? There are a ton of twists and turns in this story.

The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character and action oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging, including the dogs. The Christian ideals are woven into the story and not preached at you. However, those beliefs are an integral part of the story. This is another great addition to the K-9 Search and Rescue series. If you like Christian romances with heart-stopping action and dogs that are as central to the story as the humans, then this is for you! Enjoy!

June in Alaska is getting more and more sun. Come evening it begins to settle into a dim golden pink. Bre Dayton is a policeman with the Wolf River Police Department. The short, petite woman is young, well fit and enjoys her job. Her 17 year old niece lives with her since her brother Ben died in a horrific auto accident. Life as Addy’s guardian was going very well. She drives to and from school in her car Bre bought for her. She obeyed the rules and works hard. She loves hiking and did her best to not walk alone in the massive Echo Pass Mountain Range. For over a year there had been murders of women killed shortly after being reported missing. Bre was more than concerned for Addy’s welfare.
About a week ago she didn’t make it home. Bre reported her missing with the department but she was more than concerned. If she didn’t make it back the next day locals and Search and Rescue would be out looking for her.
Varland gives us quite a look at rural Alaska. It’s not unusual for hikers to lose their way and due to injury or weather conditions pay with their life. This suspense novel is a look at life for the First Responders and the difficult jobs they must do each day in such a rugged mountainous area.
Alaskan Mountain Search is Book 8 in the K-9 Search and Rescue series published by Harlequin Digital Sales. It will be published on January 24, 2023. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review Varland’s latest book via NetGalley. It is an excellent text of Search and Rescue in dangerous environments such as those in Alaska. The journey for Bre and Griffin becomes spiritual in their efforts to recover the lost victims. Reading Alaskan Mountain Search gives us a circle of emotions and an excursion of suspense. Enjoy this one.

Alaskan Mountain Search by Sarah Varland is part of the K9 Search and Rescue series from Love Inspired Suspense.

An Alaskan setting plus search and rescue K9s? I knew I had to read this book! Bre and Griffen are searching for Bre’s niece, while trying to keep Bre alive from a serial killer. Add in the tension between Bre and Griffen because of their past and the story has lots of suspense.

I especially loved reading about the dogs. The author, through Griffen, explains how the dogs work, plus we get to see them in action. And, without giving spoilers, the ending is super sweet.

If you enjoy search and rescue stories, give Alaskan Mountain Search a read!

Sarah Varland was a new-to-me author with this new release, but I’ll definitely be looking forward to more from her as well as looking into her backlist.

This book is for readers who love romantic suspense that is heavy on faith elements. It’s a slow-burn sweet romance with lots of action and suspense. I was hooked from page one and had a hard time putting it down when life intruded. I love books that showcase canines with big personalities, and Ember’s was so lovable. The twist at the end was very much a surprise which is a great thing for me as I read a LOT of romantic suspense/thrillers. It was well-written, had a plot with a pace that ebbed and flowed as a good romantic suspense should, and the struggles with faith and belief the main characters had to work through were relevant and realistic.

Inspirational romance!

As with the rest of the Love Inspired brand by Harlequin, there is a strong belief system present in this book. It was a clean, chaste romance.

When Bre and Griffin join forces to find Bre's missing niece, Abby, old feelings reignite, along with old doubts. Bre and Griffin had a past which ended abruptly and left Bre not understanding why. Bre also doesn't share the same faith in God that Abby and Griffin do, so she has some well-earned walls up around her heart.

I enjoyed this book, it was well-written and fast-paced. It was interesting to learn how the tracking dogs worked and even how they differentiate between tracking one specific person, or all persons, or even have a different tell for cadavers.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
On the hunt to find her missing niece, Police Captain Bre Dayton will have to track a killer with her ex, Griffin all the while searching for the only family she has left. There is so much heart and soul searching in this book as both struggle to make sense of the pain and suffering they’ve faced in their lives and how God fits into it all. A powerful story about rekindled Faith and a second chance at love.

Since this is a Clean Second Chance Romantic Suspense it took me while to get into, one of the reason was I just didn't really like the main character, but over all I did like the story, the feel I got like I was actually up in the Alaskan Mountains , and could actually see the author's descriptions come to life .

This was a sweet clean romance mystery.
Who doesn’t love a book with a dog on the front cover?!
I hadn’t realized this is part of a series when I requested a copy.
The book seems to stand alone. It does have a Christian theme running through out the book. It’s a good mystery and kept me guessing who the killer was.
Definitely recommend!

I reviewed Sarah Varland’s Alaskan Mountain Search, the 8th installment in the K9 Search and rescue inspirational romantic suspense series. For Bre Dayton, a sheriff in a small town in Alaska, she didn’t believe in God, and had people leave her unexpectedly. Raised in an abusive foster family, her brother died, the love of her life abandoned her, and now her niece Addy was missing in Eagle Pass. To find her, she needs the only man who can help her, Griffin Knight, a seasoned search-and-rescue worker. For Griffin, he had never gotten over himself when he broke Bre’s heart years ago, even after her brother Ben died tragically. He had never stopped loving her, but he blamed himself for Megan’s death. When she came to him for help, he didn’t want to do search–and-rescue anymore. But when it came to finding Addy, he knew he had to help with his two dogs, Ember, and Flapjack. Together, they learned to trust each other by healing, and to find the Eagle Pass Killer fast before it was too late and claimed another life.

This inspiring romantic suspense is so enriched with drama-filled action and faith-filled pages with gripping twists and turns. I cared for Bre, who had been dealt with a hardened life, and lost some much that broke her heart. I adored Griffin and his two dogs, who would do anything for Bre, the love of his life, and let God direct them to happiness and in miracles. The scenic settings for the Alaskan location was magnificent and awe-inspiring. The theme of the story is to let God guide you to find true love, and believe in second chances.

I rated this lovely inspirational romantic suspense novel four stars for no reason. If you love heart-stopping Christian romantic suspense novels with lots of drama, intrigue, red herrings, and plenty of love, be inspired to read Alaskan Mountain Search. This book is recommended for fans who love Christian novels, Margaret Mizushima, and Tee O’Fallon.

I’ve read (well, listened) to all the K-9 Search and Rescue books except for this one. It released back in January 2023, but for some reason didn’t appear on audible until this month so I read this one way out of order. Not a problem though, since this isn’t a continuity series. The books are just loosely tied together via the K-9 Search and Rescue theme.

I was immediately drawn to the Alaskan setting in this 8th book. Varland does an incredible job of setting the scene, describing the environment and generally making a reader feel like she’s freezing on a mountain trail somewhere. 🙂 Add in some nail-biting suspense and the drama of a second chance romance and I was in bibliophile bliss all the way through.

Beautifully written — this story reads well, as in it makes an excellent audio book. I’ve found that listening to a novel really highlights the strengths…and the flaws…in storytelling techniques and this one was a joy to listen to..

Loved the complicated dynamics in the relationship between Bre and Griffin. Their personal back stories and collective history added so much depth — and angst — to the plot. Absolutely relatable and believable and full of raw honesty. I was emotionally invested in them as a couple very early on.

The suspense is full of edge-of-your-seat stuff, including some wilderness survival scenes, as this hero and heroine face down the elements in their desperate search for Bre’s missing niece.

Unputdownable (or should I say unstoppable?) until the very last word. Definitely a favourite Love Inspired Suspense.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Alaskan Mountain Search. This is a K-9 Search and Rescue Story. I'm a big fan of Sarah's work and I'm always glad to get one of her books in the mail. I love Alaska stories, especially in the mountains so as far as I'm concerned this is an awesome book. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.

Police Chief Bre Dayton's niece is missing, possibly kidnapped. She had been hiking the trail at Echo Pass. Four young women have been killed there. The town has named the killer the Echo Pass Hunter. Could her niece become the next target? She only knows one man who she can trust, her ex.

Search and Rescue worker Griffin Knight has stopped working as a SAR for the last five years. Bre is his only regret. He's not sure why he came out for this search except the girl missing is his best friend's kid sister. Ben had died four years ago. He was just leaving when he heard shots fired. He had to make sure Bre, his lost love wasn't the victim. Could he help in the search and keep Bre safe?

A terrifying journey of these two broken souls. Can they find Addy or is this a recovery. God has a plan for them, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan for peace and not for harm, for an expected end. Give Him your heart, you will never regret it.

Bre's niece is missing and she'll do everything she can to find her. Trying to enlist for her ex Griffin and his k-9 for help. Bre is aware that there is a known murderer the Echo Pass Hunter hunting people and refuses to let her niece be one of them. Problem is that he also set his sights on her now since she keeps poking around looking in his territory.

I really enjoyed this book. You can tell the amount of love Bre had for her niece and the amount of faith she had in God to be the one out there looking when no one was really helping. I really enjoyed the suspense of it all wondering when she would find her niece and how the results would end with that whether or not she was alive because there was a murderer around. There was also the fact that the murderer kept making attempts at her life and it was interesting seeing how that was playing out. There was a spark between the two main characters but nothing that was really out there this book did remain clean which I appreciate. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and just seeing how it all played out. Highly recommend.

This was an ok book. There seemed to be a lot of repeating that Griffin broke Bre's heart. Griffin wouldn't tell Bre why he left so abruptly. It seems that if they had known each other as long as they said, they would be more open with each other. The mystery was good and that part I enjoyed that part.

I've picked out a couple of books that I was interested in, They are stand-alone so it didn't matter to me just out of order that I'd read these stories.

They are heart clenching, warming and up lifting. You have personal struggles, doubts, growth with self and family and pets not forget finding love.

You don't need to use ugly language, sex to have a story (A Great Story).

The books I've read are entertaining, engaging and had me at the edge of my seat. When you have all if that, its a good read.

A Christian Mystery and Suspense with a hint of a second chance romance. Took me a bit to get into this. I prefer the hero to be more sure of himself. Bre had to learn to trust people and to trust God. Griffin has a strong faith but feels unworthy. I did like reading about the wilderness and the authors writing was very descriptive. Good mystery; I had no clue who the killer could have been. I’d recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and suspense.

4.5 stars. I enjoyed this book—the first I read by Sarah Varland. I am a believer and enjoyed the way Ms. Varland integrated scripture and God into the story. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Cindy Kaye (sorry if I’ve misspelled her name) who did a very nice job. Added note: Thank you for your book, Ms. Varland. God used it to speak to me about an issue in my life that has been bringing me down.

The plot itself was good. However I really struggled with the style of writing. It is written with alot of inner thought dialogue. I struggled because the character would say something and there would be half a page of inner thoughts before the next character spoke, so I would forget what what was said before. Other then that is was a good story line I thought I had figured it all out but I was wrong so that is nice.

"Alaskan Mountain Search" was a good, clean read. It didn't keep my attention like some of the other LIS books, but it wasn't boring. I really didn't have any idea who the serial killer was, so that's a plus! This was a very quick, easy read.
