A Cowboy to Keep I enjoyed this group of stories very much. They were different from each other and they all were a lot of fun to read. All of authors did a great job of telling their stories. All of the characters were very well developed and you get to learn a lot of things, a bit of history and a bit of what it is like to be a rancher.
The Ranchers Takes a Cook Misty Beller This story certainly shows how hard things were after the Civil War. The Union soldiers took out their anger on innocent people in the South. Anna and her brother, Edward, were ones that were the unfortunate young people who caught up in it.
Anna was one of those women who you didn’t mess with, she stood her ground and protected those she loved. By accident, she ends up as the cook for a cattle ranch because she wanted to make sure that her younger brother was okay.
Jacob is the son of the owner of the cattle ranch and he is totally not interested in anything except that ranch. He is not interested in marriage or even dating.
What is fun about this story is how these 2 people are thrown together.
The Mechanics of Mistletoe Liz Isaacson What a fun story to read. You never know what life will throw at you but if you have good friends and a loving family, it will all work out.
Sammy has put her own life on hold five years ago after her sister and brother in law were killed in a car accident. She took her nephew, adopted him and was raising him alone. She was also taking care of her aging parents as well as running her own mechanics shop. She also went out on call to do repairs.
Bear is the oldest of a very large ranching family. He and his cousin, Ranger, are the main runners of their large cattle ranch. While they are all very wealthy, the whole family all work the land and the livestock. Bear has always lived up to his name and he never thought that he would find a woman to love and marry.
Can Sammy and Bear get over their differences and life goals to ever see how they feel about each other? You will have to read this wonderful story with all its ups and downs, happiness and sadness to find out for yourself.
Knox Susan May Warren This story was full of high suspense, almost like a spy novel. But it was very cool to watch how Kelsey, Knox, Glo and Tate all start to grow and come to terms with their lots in life. I really enjoyed how the author made you think that a mystery was solved only to have another one pop up. It was a fun story to read and the ending was good. A couple of loose ends were tied up, while you are left with a big one that becomes untied.
Dillon Linda Ford I really enjoyed this story and how it shows that people make mistakes but that it is not the end of the world. Abby finds herself an unwed mother in the 1800s which is not a good time to be one. She decided that she needed to go west where no one knows her, so she can give her child a life.
Maude and John are an amazing couple, especially Maude. She has an instinct to take in those who need a place to be part of a family. Dillon was one of those she found after John’s accident and he was still a boy and full of anger. Over the years, he let his anger go and grew into a good man.
What happens to Abby and Dillon is a bittersweet story and if I say any more, I will be giving it away. So no spoilers, you will have to read it yourself.
Crumpets and Cowpies Shanna Hatfield I really loved this story and could hardly put it down. It was so nice to read a story that did not need any huge or life-threatening drama to make the story a good read. Even without that type of drama, the story was one that kept your interest. The interaction between Thane, Jemma, Jack and Lily was just great story telling.
Thane had to travel to England to settle his brother’s estate and this is when you get to see Thane, a rough and tough man, showing his softer side. This review will probably have spoilers but I will try to keep them at a minimum but they are necessary to really tell how much I loved this story. So just stop here if you don’t want spoilers and just go and read it yourself.
It is hard to imagine life in the 1800s especially out in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. To watch Jemma and the children who have never known anything but the modern conventions of England at the time adapt to what would be almost the complete opposite was fun to watch. The cruise ship across the Atlantic was so different from how cruise ships are today. It was interesting to get a look at how things were and to think animals also traveled with their owners.
The interplay between Jemma and Thane is very funny at times. You could just imagine Thane purposely provoking Jemma just to see her temperature rise. Jemma is one very strong woman with so much family loyalty. She will do anything for her family and she really doesn’t like this American who comes in and disrupts their entire world.
Can both of them get past their first impressions and dislikes of each other to provide a good foundation for Jack and Lily?
His Small Town Girl Lacy Williams I totally loved this story because it is one that offers hope then things look their worse. It is not hard to see that there is too many who want to judge others especially when they have no idea what that person’s life is like.
Molly is one strong, independent woman who ends up having no one to count on when things are at their worse. But she continues on with the hope that one day things will be good again.
Cord has had been put into a box that only makes him try to shut out the world. He has not had an easy life and finds himself exactly where he never wanted to be and had worked so hard to escape from.
What is so good about this story, is that it touches on so many things that is wrong in our society these days but gives the reader hope that it can be fixed.
Thane was a rancher who lived in Oregon, he lost touch with his older brother years before. Thane received a letter from Henry's attorney. Weston. Henry, Thanes brother had left everything he owned to Thane in his will. But in order to get it he had to go to England and personally collect i
Thane had no idea why he had to personally go to England until he arrived there to find out that Henry had married and his wife Jane and Henry were both deceased and that they had two children. Jack and Lilly. Jemma was Jane's sister and she was looking after the children. He also found that Henry had more money than Thane ever imagined he did.
The story is funny and sad all at the same time. I took the book with me to read it while I waited on my son to get off work. I had people starring at me because I would laugh at something one of the characters said or I would have tears at one of the sad parts.
This collection had three contemporary and three historical romances. That was a surprise, as I tend to think of cowboy romances as being purely contemporary - I tend to see the historical version classed as Westerns rather than cowboys.
I had also thought these were all new stories. While they were all new to me, I know Knox by Susan May Warren has been published separately, and I suspect the others have as well (one had a copyright date of 2015).
As with any collection, there are great and less great stories. My two favourites were Dillon by Linda Ford (a historical by a new-to-me author) and His Small-Town Girl, a contemporary by Lacy Williams. Both had heroes and heroines I immediately liked, and the characters didn't do dumb things (although I had my doubts about Dillon at one point ...). Never mind. He worked it out and they all live happily ever after.
As with any anthology, there are some stories that I like more than others, but overall this is a great collection. A couple were suspense-filled, but all had some drama for the main couple to work through and find themselves better as a team than alone. Not all were overtly Christian, but all had at least a little faith element.
I enjoyed this collection of mostly new to me authors. But a few of the stories didn't grab me like the rest. This collection is a great way to test the waters of new authors. And because each book is either the first or part of a series, you have the option of reading the next chapter of the next installment and purchasing it at the end of each novel. I did.
Most of the books were fabulous reads. Each book had engaging characters and plots. My favorites and those I've already read were Susan May Warren, Shanna Hatfield, and Misty M. Beller, and Lacy Williams. It was a pleasure to get to know Linda Ford and Liz Isaacson's stories and writing styles. I can't wait to read more of their books.
I loved A Cowboy to Keep. This is one of favorite types of books. I often get introduced to a new author and it is a great way to sample their writing. I was familiar with all of the writers involved in these books and I love them all. It seemed like they kept getting better as I went along. What a great read.
I enjoyed all these stories. I found some new authors and I am very excited to read some more books by them. They were all clean stories and they were all about cowboys. Very good book. I will go back and read a few stories again.
These books were all great reads and the authors have done a tremendous job with writing each one. None are really better than the last as it was great to read about each cowboy and learn about their lives. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Each story was beautifully written with characters having hidden hurts, major life events they had to overcome and/or huge ranch responsibilities that needed to be handled. The romances were sweet and the endings were happy. Great selection of authors.
This was a wonderful 6 story collection of sweet and clean romances filled with cowboys, romance and characters you're sure to love. Everything from historical romance to new age romance. I couldn't put this collection down.
Six excellent stories that kept me entertained for a few days. Not fair that I had to set it down. All five starred as far as I'm concerned, went through a box of tissues and had a few great laughs.
A series of the best cowboys. The authors are seamless. Such great descriptive scenes. You will not be disappointed and you will not want to quit reading
I really enjoyed this collection of Cowboy novels by multiple authors. Each story was unique but they all have cowboys in common. Through reading this, I have discovered a couple of new authors whose work I hadn't read before and I really loved their stories so much that I read the rest of the books in the series before finishing this collection. Wonderful!
All of these stories were pleasant to read. My favorite story overall was probably "Knox" by Susan May Warren. I love a good suspense romance. My least favorite was probably "Crumpets and Cowpies," but not because it wasn't a good story. Shanna Hatfield just has a tendency to dwell on the physical attraction aspect of romance more than the others, which isn't something I look for in a sweet romance which is also inspirational.
You'll find a nice collection here of both contemporary cowboy romances and historical ones. There are three of each. All are clean stories with interesting plots. They're all inspirational stories, too, though the emphasis varies from book to book.
If you want to buy several books and get a good set for your money, I recommend this one.
