#The Horseman of Death is the first book in the series Tiamat’s Calling. It can be read as stand alone fantasy romance with no cliffhanger.

Everything had ended two decades earlier when the war had devastated everyone, and the dark fog had spread among the subjects of the kingdoms. But hope was rekindled on Ashland’s twenty-first birthday, when the white onyx she had received from her parents, moments before she had to part from them, started to glow.
Wishful, hoping to restore peace to all the kingdoms, Ashland prepares to go on a journey with Kato, her loyal knight, at her side, along with other companions. Ashland intends to claim her rightful place on the throne of Almora. However, dark forces who desire the power she possesses will stop at nothing to prevent her from fulfilling her fate.

Following the story of Ashland as she learns to fulfill her destiny in Tiamat, Nica deals with themes of religion and fate, love and friendship, but most importantly death, and what it means in the face of life.
I was gripped throughout: it had the classic fantasy quest and prophetic chosen ones, yet there was something else to it. Perhaps it was talking wolves, or a fresh take on the meaning of death in fantasy. I can't quite say. The world was extremely fleshed out, you could picture every detail about the different kingdoms. But that was sometimes a downfall - the world building could have been more dispersed as it felt clunky at times, all in one place making it feel like a flood of information.
Ashland, at times felt like a contradictory character, there were moments when she didn't feel fleshed out enough, this was mainly during the first half. But by the time the novel closed, Ashland felt true to herself. In a sense, she gave up to her destiny and that's something I didn't like. She didn't in anyway try to fight it. I get that Nica was portraying the sacrifice of one to save many, but I just felt like Ash gave in, as she did give in to the darkness to give her a feeling of completion, which she already had with Odin.
The true strength of this debut was it's themes. If you can extrapolate anything from The Horseman of Death, it's that it's a story of religion and faith, and the meaning of death. Religion isn't always what it seems, or what people know, and the concept of challenging that arises through the Sacred Gods and the God of the Damned. There, however, I have one point to make, there was no originality to the God of Death's name: Hades. I felt that it was this element that took something away. It made Ararat very confusing to me since Hades is the Greek god of the Underworld, and Ashland called upon Cerberus. This felt too out of place in the novel. Its something I personally would change.
I would like to thank Nica for giving me the opportunity to read and review the ARC of her debut, and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting simply to escape into a fresh new world with classic fantasy undertones!

I have not cried on a book in a while and this book made me lose my streak. This book is a 4.5 out of 5 for me. It has a bittersweet ending but they could’ve had it all from the beginning, but fate works in a mysterious way. It broke my heart when they sacrificed so much but it’s all good cuz they eventually found each other in the end.
Ash is my baby 🥹 She deserves the world 🙏
Nica (the author) has such a way with her writing and imagination. I’m looking forward to read her future works as well. 🤍 I saw that this is the first book in the series so I’m just wondering how would she break my heart the second time around 😆 (i hope not)

I received an arc copy of This book for an honest review
The story itself was good I felt like it seemed like a spicy version of a lord of the rings kind of adventure. And I my honest opinion would probably make a better movie so I can see the different lands than it would as a book. you met some interesting characters and different magical elements the world building itself was slightly choppy but it wasn’t something that would deter from reading and I gathered that much as the book seems to be translated to English. I liked the story I read more from this author in the future

בסבלנות שאין לי מושג מאיפה השגתי, חיכיתי בעינויי תופת שלא היו נסבלים בשאול( ואני לא דרמטית) ואז הספר נשלח לי לענן.
והתפרקתי לגורמים.
מעטים הספרים שמשאירים אותי חסרת מילים ועם כל כך הרבה מה להגיד!

I’d give this book 5/5 and here is why. In all honesty, there would be times where I would be annoyed with the main protagonist BUT what makes up for this is that she herself addresses her flaws in decision making and lack of knowledge of the outside world since she was very limited in resources. Her ability to be honest and have hints of self-reflection is what makes her admirable. The plot has an interesting premise and I like the adventure aspect of the story as they go to different locations. The book also makes it clear what their objective is and what are the possible obstacles they need to face which makes it easy to follow along and enjoy the ride. You may be wondering, what about the spice? Needless to say, there is enough spice in this book to be not only subtle but also entertaining to make one even giggle especially as the character herself begins to explore that side of herself. As someone who reads fantasy books, I am no stranger to details and world-building, both which seemed simple in terms of the book.
Overall you can feel how much time and effort the author has put in such as details that are subtle and make it across for the reader to understand the dynamics of the story and what the characters may think and feel. There are plenty of things that I like such as the different adventures these characters go through and the types of events that occur such as a ballroom moment, magical battles, and as well as time traveling of some sort that ties into the plot.
If you like simple read that includes a set adventure, magic, and spice then this is the one for you.

{4.5 rounded up} The book starts with a slow pace seemingly following a well known path, however just as the reader stars to get the feel of things, a surprise twist appears. I kept being pleasantly surprised with the various choices and depth of scope, which was quite ambitious as it could have been easily separated into multiple volumes. Each of the main characters falls somewhere on the grey scale either by heritage, education, circumstances or choices. This lends itself into the ambiguity of what the each plot juncture will lead to. As expected the romance here is challenging with many difficulties to overcome and heavy tolls to be paid, but with several momentous scenes for the lovers of romance genre. My main regret here would probably be that this is a standalone book, which left me even without any loose threads, but still yearning for more to revisit the kingdom and its fascinating lore here..

The book follows Ashland and her journey to do whatever it takes to save her kingdom. You meet Ashland and Kato just as she is about to turn 21 and find out what her future entails. Along with Kato, she sets off on a journey that will change her life and the lives of others she meets along the way. She is a strong warrior even though she doesn’t believe she is and her sacrifice brings so much to the kingdom.
While Ashland is the main character you can also expect to follow Kato, Celest, Castus and Odin who will all play a part in helping Ashland reach her destiny.
I wasn’t really sure what I was expecting from this book, but I loved it. I would give it a solid 4 stars, it captivated me and made me want to keep reading although not enough to keep me awake reading until 2am. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this book, the story is interesting and the characters are well written, they’re likeable and I wanted to know more about them. It’s a great book for fantasy lovers, there are a couple of erotic scenes later in the book which I found used repetitive language but overall a really good, well-rounded fantasy book.

The horseman of death is the book that got me out of my fantasy slump.
It took me a bit to really get into this story but once I was ... I struggled to put the book down.
This fantasy has enemies to lovers, an interesting magic system, a quest to save the world and a bunch of wonderfull companions our main character Ashland could rely on.
I laughed, I cried, I went through the whole emotional rollercoaster and it was totally worth it.
Oh and let's not forget thise spicy scenes!

I’ll start by saying the grammar and translation was a little hard to get past at some points. It was translated from Greek, so it was understandable, but did distract from the story in quite a few places.
The storyline and concept was great though. I enjoyed the light vs dark and the creativity of the different realms or worlds visited. I would have loved for their to be more character development. Sometimes a scene would just be building and quickly end or transition so fast I had to reread to make sure I hadn’t missed something.
There seemed to be a lot of elements of different lore and myth woven together which I liked quite a bit.
Overall, the journey with Ashland was an adventure, and I was pleased with the outcome.

This story overwhelmed me in such a good way. This is a definite recommend read. Nica, Thank You for such a layered and beautiful story. I’m choosing to leave my review short because I want you to go in blind & experience everything unbiased. I hope you love this book as much as I did . Be sure to make sure your comfortable with what your reading , check for any triggers. This one is a emotional roller coaster so beware but so worth the journey. Happy Reading Book Besties 💙

This was a great start to the Tiamat’s Calling series, a great erotic novel. The cover was what drew me in and I'm glad I was able to read this. It had what I was hoping for when I read the description, the characters worked really well and enjoyed getting to know them. The world itself was interesting and I loved getting to learn about this world. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

First of all I need to state that this isn’t my typical type of book, but it was pretty good overall. The writing was beautifully done and I kept me interested. However, it felt like there was a lot to keep track of at some points and I would forget who was who or I would need to reread to figure out what was happening. I would recommend if you are fantasy adventure stories.

One of the best fantasy books I've read!
I really like the world in this story.
I loved the characters and their path, everyone goes through their own journey, it's complex and complicated and I loved that it's not easy.
There are a lot of feelings of pain, love and hope here.
And this story stayed with me even after I closed the book.

received an ARC copy of this and it was a really good read!!
the writing was phenomenal and i was sucked into it right away. Since it has such broad lands it took a while for me to get the hang of it, fantasy novels do need world building and i feel like this could have used a little more. Other than that the storyline and plot twist were amazing.
I really enjoyed this read. Thanks Nica for letting me experience this!
the writing was phenomenal and i was sucked into it right away. Since it has such broad lands it took a while for me to get the hang of it, fantasy novels do need world building and i feel like this could have used a little more. Other than that the storyline and plot twist were amazing.

I love this book, it has everything you could ask for in a good fantasy story, exciting characters, a magical journey, wounderful friendships and a great love story.

Overall, a good story. There is a lot of world building and at times felt drawn out. Once you get past the slower world building and the development of magic it’s an exciting adventure. If you’re a fan of fantasy with a dash of spice you’ll like this book.

Book 1 in the Tiamat's Calling series - a great debut and start to the series. A fantasy enemies to lovers romance with twists and turns. I really enjoyed this one - the storyline, the characters and how it all plays out. Looking forward to more from the series.

I really enjoyed this story overall - it was well thought out and kept me engaged throughout the entire read. There were a few spelling errors in the translation to English, but it wasn't enough to completely derail me from reading the story, but just something to be mindful of.
There were some really sweet moments, some moments where it the characters were incredibly frustrating, and other moments where I really wanted to cry. For a fantasy, this book did a great job at pulling on the heartstrings.
Well done to Nica on your debut novel, you've done an incredible job <3

הנה ספר מעולה עם בניית עולם פשוט מורחבת, מפורטת ומדהימה. אין לי מילים לתאר עד כמה שרציתי לראות עוד ועוד מהעולם הזה - אלוהים, בשלב מסויים רציתי לחיות בתוכו ביחד עם קאטו (שאני מאוהבת בו לחלוטין). ההתבגרות של אשלנד לאורך הספר, הגדילה שלה, ההבנה שלה על העולם וההחלטות שלקחה, פשוט השאירו אותי בסוף הספר מרוסקת עם דמעות בעיניים. לא חשבתי שאבכה כך מספר, אבל זה בדיוק מה שקרה. ישבתי במשך שעה אחרי סיום הספר ובכיתי כמו תינוקת. לא רק זה אלא שגם הגיבור שעמד על גבול הנבל, שלא ידעתי בדיוק אם לאהוב אותו בפרק אחד או לחנוק אותו בפרק אחר, אבל איכשהו עדיין אהבתי אותו. זה ספר הבכורים של ניקה והוא מוכיח עד כמה העולם שנמצא בתוך ראשה וליבה פשוט מדהים, אני שמחה שהיא חלקה אותו איתנו.

הספרים של ניקה ריתקו אותי במשך שנים, תמיד משכו את תשומת ליבי, אך רק עכשיו מצאתי את הזמן והמקום לצלול לתוכם. וכשהתחלתי סוף כל סוף בפרש המוות, כבר מהשם עצמו מצאתי את מחשבותיי נודדות. תהיתי, התהפכתי בו, וכשהבנתי את משמעותו, גיליתי שטעיתי והמשמעות האמיתית נחשפה מול עיניי והמוח שלי לא עיכל את הגאונות של ניקה.
הכתיבה של ניקה היא לא פחות ממשובחת, עשירה ומדויקת. היא טווה את העלילה כחוט משי, רך, מתוח, נשזר בדיוק מושלם. הספר הזה שאב אותי לתוכו, ממכר כמו סם, מרסק חוקים, חוצה גבולות. הוא שונה מכל מה שהספרות הישראלית מציעה, כמו קסם אפל שמשתלט עליך באיטיות, עד שאינך יכול עוד להשתחרר. קראתי אותו בהליכה זהירה, צעד אחר צעד, וכמו גיבוריו, מצאתי את עצמי עומד בצומת דרכים גורלית, כל בחירה כבדת משקל, כל החלטה בלתי הפיכה. חששתי מכך שהספר כתוב רק מנקודת מבט אחת, אבל זה לגמרי לא השפיע על העלילה וחווית הקריאה שלי. הרגשתי כל דמות בדיוק באותה מידה.
אשלנד, הדמות הנשית, היא לב הסערה. מסעה העצמי נרקם בעדינות מדודה, בצעדים קטנים, ביטחון שנבנה מתוך ההריסות, אהבה שנולדת מחדש מתוך הכאב שלה. היא אבודה, אך מוצאת את דרכה. היא נאמנה לעצמה ולשורשיה, חכמה, מחושבת, ודמותה הייתה אחת מאלו שהפכו את הקריאה למרתקת.
הדמות הגברית, אודיסוס, או בקיצור, אודין. מלאך שנפל מן השמיים הישר אל התופת. לא רק שגורלו נגזר לאבד הכל, אלא שגם נשמתו נגזלת ממנו באיטיות כואבת. התפתחותו במהלך הספר היא אחת העדינות והמרתקות ביותר שקראתי, ואני נסחפתי לחלוטין יחד עם סבלו. חשתי את הכאב שלו, הבנתי אותו. העבר שלו היה טרגי ומכשף, וכל פרט שנחשף רק גרם לי לרצות לדעת עוד.
גם הדמויות המשניות היו לא פחות ממופלאות. הן הרגישו כמו רסיסים מנופצים שהתלכדו יחד ליצירה שלמה, כל אחת מוסיפה רובד משלה לסיפור. הן לא היו רק רקע, אלא חלק בלתי נפרד מהעלילה, והשפעתן על האירועים הייתה משמעותית ומוחשית. הקשרים ביניהן שידרו חברות אמת – כזו שמעמיקה עם כל עמוד נוסף. מצאתי את עצמי חווה את המסע של כל דמות בנפרד, ולא רק של הגיבורה הראשית.
הדיאלוגים בין הדמויות... פשוט עוצמתיים. יש כל כך הרבה רגעים, משפטים וסיטואציות שנחרטו בזיכרוני, כאלה שאפשר לשאת איתך לחיים עצמם. השיחות מלאות חוכמה, עמוקות ומעוררות מחשבה, וכל ציטוט רק חיזק את עוצמת הסיפור.
הבניית העולם הייתה מרהיבה. עשירה, מפורטת, ונוגעת בכל פרט. הסיפור שמאחורי תיאמת כבש אותי לחלוטין, כמו לחש עתיק שנשזר בעלילה. זהו עולם פנטזיה משובח, מלא ביצורים אגדיים, ואלים עתיקים שכוחם משתרע מעבר להבנת התודעה האנושית. גם אם השביל שסללו עבור בני האנוש נראה אפוף ערפל וסכנות, הרי שבין הצללים מסתתרת גם תקווה. כל רגע בקריאה הרגיש כמו סצנה שמתעוררת לחיים מול עיניי – העולם לא רק חי על הדפים, הוא מתממש בכל רגע, נשם כמו יצור חי.
הרומנטיקה בסיפור אינה קלישאתית או צפויה, היא מסע אפל ומסחרר שאין ממנו מנוס. אהבתם אינה מתפתחת בקלות, היא סערה עזה שדוחפת אותם אל קצות גבוליהם, דורשת מהם להקריב את כל מה שיש להם. תשוקתם לא רק מהדהדת– היא שורפת, כנה ואכזרית, תובעת מהם להפסיד הכל כדי לזכות אחד בשני. אך אל תטעו, זה לא רומן שייקח אתכם למסע נעים ומלטף אל עבר נפשכם התאומה. הוא יתעתע בכם, ירמוס את מחשבותיכם, ישאיר אתכם ריקים, ואז ימלא אתכם מחדש. זהו מסע אל ההרים, שמתנפץ אל תוך ים סוער ובודד. כל צעד בו מרסק את ליבכם, אך בסופו תגלו שהכאב הזה מחבר אתכם מחדש, נותן לכם את החופש והאויר הנקי שאתם זקוקים לו.
ניקה תסחוף אותכם אל מצולות האוקיינוס, מאפשרת לכם לטבוע בעומק עד שאין דבר מלבד החושך, ורק כשכל תקווה אבדה, היא מציתה להבה קטנה. אור זעיר שמאיר הכל. הספר הזה לקח אותי אל האפלה העמוקה ביותר, אך העניק לי נר. בזכותו, גם האפלה החשוכה והמקוללת ביותר יכולה להפיץ אור, לא כדי להיעלם, אלא כדי למצוא איזון בין טוב ורע, בין קללה לתרופה, בין צללים לאור.
הספר הזה לא סיים את דרכו ברגע שהגעת לסוף – הוא נשאר איתך, נוגע בחלקים לא נראים בנשמה שלך.
