Pine Harbour #5

Love on the Run

Rate this book
She's a country music star with secrets. He's her new bodyguard.

Dean Foster has nearly two decades experience being calm, cool, and collected. His first gig in his new private security contractor role should be more of the same, but Nashville superstar Liana Hansen blows all that out of the water in one breathy hello.

Liana isn’t sure how she feels about the straight-laced cop shadowing her everywhere she goes, but there’s no denying the chemistry between them. Too bad he insists on keeping his clothes on. And then there’s the pesky matter of feelings. Neither of them likes those.

With only a dozen stops left on the tour, one of them is going to have to bend. Or the other is going to wind up breaking something.

Bodyguard. [Noun]
A person hired to escort and protect another person. Escort and protect. Definitely no flirting, kissing, or testing the bounds of third base.

4.5 'I love you, exactly as you are' Stars

Love on the Run, the fifth installment of one of my all time favorite series – Pine Harbour -, was one of my most anticipated releases this year and let me tell you, it was so worth the wait! If you haven’t yet tried this series, that you chance now, since the first book is for free for a limited time!

Dean Foster is now a retired cop, starting a new adventure in the private security business. A family man to the core, he has been the father figure in the Foster family, and it’s a role he takes very seriously and the center of his life. That is until he meets the enchanting Liana. He is immediately captivated, but deeply engrained safety mechanisms – rooting mainly from the way his father dealt with their mother’s death – make him think he will never have a future with a woman, much less someone as shining as Liana.

He wasn’t good enough for someone like Liana. Not whole enough. Not nearly capable enough of the feelings that women like her deserved.

He wanted to want her. Resented that his brain thought it best to shut down this feeling when it was unlike anything he’d ever felt before.

Liana is a first and foremost known as famous singer, but she’s SO much beyond her image and her extraordinary vocals. At the moment she meets Dean, she passing for some of the most difficult moments in her life. She was literally, reaching her breaking point. So when she is enticed to use Dean’s strenght and presence in overcoming her obstactles, she ends up accepting. Of course their incredible chemistry worked as both an incentive and as an on obstacle in their decision. And let’s just say that Dean was so compelled to get close to her, that he couldn’t resist this opportunity, even if unconsciously.

She was radiant, all the energy pulling tight inside her like the start of a nuclear reaction, and as soon as she hit the stage, she turned on that power and blew him away.

Like I mentioned before, their magnetism was palpable from the very first encounter, but once they got in the role of protege and bodyguard, their close proximity, and getting to know each other more and more every day, their initial attraction took on a life of its own, that neither of them could deny…

“You needed this to know how much I wanted you?” He dragged a ragged breath into his lungs. “Let there be no doubt on that score. I want you so much it hurts.”

When they let go of their mental barriers and gave in to their physical impulses, boy oh boy, did they lit up the pages! WE could feel their passion, desire, and skin deep craving for one another. It was absolutely fantastic to see them letting go, and scorching up the whole place!

Her kisses were pure sin.
He liked it so damn much it hurt.

They became each other’s rock, their own version of safe haven, and without giving to much away I’ll just say that Dean soon realizes that life is more that he had constructed in his his mind, and I could not have been happier to see their personal growth and relationship blossoming. I adored both main characters so very much. Their strength, the way they felt do deeply, and the extraordinary inner battle they had to face and overcome, completely blew me away. To me they were , even with their flaws, perfect!

Somehow, she’d cracked through his decades-old crusty exterior and let loose the guy-with-feelings trapped inside.

Zoe York surpassed my expectations and delivered another unforgettable and emotional story that I couldn’t get enough of. It was fantastic to revisit some of the characters I loved so much from the previous books, as was to get an insight of what to come, – specially Dean’s youngest brother Sean because, OMG, that little teaser, Arghhh, I want his book NOW!! – and I enjoyed every second of this amazing ride! I seriously can’t get enough of these families, and these books really do transport us to this small town communities, even when the set is not in the town itself, given the flowing and natural writing style and in depth development of the characters, as well as the relationships. They are just incredible believable in their profound romanticism, within their struggles and conquers, that we really could see witnessing in real life. These are also the reasons for which Love on the Run, as well as the Pine Harbour series are, in my opinion, an absolute success and why I keep watching like an hawk for the next release! <3

“I mean, thousands of people love you. But I…I love you, exactly as you are. Hair in a braid, reading glasses on. I love every inch of you, from the way you worry about your band to the way you sing to the heavens and everything in between. I love that you run like you’re being chased by hell hounds and how you look when you’re concentrating on getting a lyric just right. I love being on tour with you and—”

He might have to be the rock for everyone else, but she was his secret support.

"Love on the Run", is the fifth book in Zoe York's Pine Harbor Series and though part of the series this can be read as a standalone. So if you have not read Zoe's Pine Harbour series this is a great point to jump on board. Okay so I admit to a bit of a shameless plug but I could not help it; Zoe writes a sexy sweet and spicy romance with a connection to more than each other, but to home and family also; so you always kind of feel like your coming home to family too!

Love on the Run gives us Dean Foster's story, the x-army mp /retiring police officer now forming a private security business with his freind Zander. Usually a calm cool and collected man , the oldest f four boys who at twelve became both Mther and father to them. His father the Colonel was around but not an emotional support for growing boys. Having lost his mother so early and taking on the responsibility of his younger brothers Dean does not do messy emotional relationships. So when he meets Liana Hansen , country music star , at Hopes house, his body may think getting involved with this beauty is a great idea, but his brain knows it would be messy . So what's a guy to do, well politely retreat of course.
Retreat only lasted for about twenty four hours ; thanks to Hope hiring his new personal security firm for her BFF Liana. Hope is worried for her ; Liana showed up on Hopes doorstep in Pine Harbour in the middle of her tour and obviously stressed out. Hope fears she needs protection and someone she can trust along with her.
So Dean is now going to be spending the next six weeks very close to temptation.
The more time these two spend with each other , the more they talk, the more protective Dean gets and the more he wants Liana. Liana does need protection but more a buffer from Her ex fiancé Track Gentry also a country singer and part owner of the label she is contracted with. Track likes to push Liana's buttons by being snarky and sarcastic , nevermind threatening and applying pressure on her over the last album she owes the label under her contract directly, instead of going through her management as he is supposed to. Deans first run in with Track solidifies his dislike for him and Deans desire to protect Liana.
The non- stop time together is wearing down Deans strength and then one stolen kiss sends the wall tumbling and suddenly these two can't get enough of each other As farms Dean was concerned;
She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever had in his arms. Her confidence on stage, with her fans, her band…it was incredible.
It gets hot and heavy and sexy between these two , definitely out of Deans normal box , when they apart all he can think about is her andhegetz an aches his chest. For Liana , Dean is becoming synonymous with safety and she is not afraid to admit that she is falling hard for him. From next tour stop to next the relationship evolves and the sexy times ensue; and both of these characters go through some big changes . Track Gentry and the label become a no issue.
A return with Dean to Pine Harbour leads to a HEA!

Arc was Graciuosly provided by Ms York for an honest review and honestly my review may be lacking while try not to reveal too much , but the story certainly was not!

I love bodyguard romances, so I was excited when I heard that Zoe York’s latest Pine Harbour series book (each of which can be read as a standalone) would have a bodyguard theme. It’s Dean’s turn now, and we’ve seen him as a secondary character in earlier stories, as a brother and friend but he’s been the quiet guy on the sidelines. An army reservist, and a career police officer, he’s just retired from the police force and has entered into the private security business that his friend Zander Minelli (hero of Love on A Summer Night, and permanently on my book boyfriend list) has started. Their first assignment is a favour for a friend.

Liana is a country music superstar and her best friend Hope is now living in Pine Harbour, engaged to Dean’s younger brother Ryan (their romance is profiled in Love on a Spring Morning). Lately, Liana has been more and more stressed while on the road touring, with her contract negotiations and dealings with her bitter ex-boyfriend Track (who is also her boss) causing her to have an anxiety attack at her last concert. Hiding out in Pine Harbour for the weekend, it’s Hope who hires Dean, his first official security job, to be Liana’s bodyguard for the rest of her tour. He’ll be a buffer between Liana and Track whom Hope knows is a lot of the cause of Liana’s issues. Dean’s not so sure how he feels about leaving Pine Harbour but he’s up for the task. He feels a protective instinct towards Liana from their first meeting and an attraction that is equally returned. That’s part of the problem – he’s got to focus to do his job right and sleeping with a client is definitely not the best way to do that. But as they work together and become closer, Dean realizes it’s going to be very hard to go back to Pine Harbour without Liana. When her tour is finished and his job officially comes to a close, will they find a way to make things work and get their happy ever after?

This story is a little different in that while the previous stories in the series have been set in Pine Harbour, Liana’s tour takes her across several cities and states. There is a tour list at the start of the story with the locations of Liana’s concerts and I thought that was a cute touch for the reader. Each of the spots on the tour, in particular, Nashville which is Liana’s home, comes across well and there is obviously some research that has gone into these locations as they felt very realistic. (And I would love to have some of the breakfasts that Dean has at these little diners on the road!). There are scenes on stage, backstage, on the tour bus, at VIP parties and in the recording studios that make the reader feel like they are coming along for Liana and Dean’s ride and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story.

Dean, of course, is the quintessential hero (and yes, he gets a spot next to Zander on my book boyfriend list). He’s friendly, polite, caring, sweet and a genuine good guy. His attraction to Liana is understandable as she is a beautiful woman, and no matter whether she is in yoga pants and a t-shirt or fully made up for the stage, he sees the beauty of her character within too. From the moment Dean hears about Track and the bullying and intimidation he’s put Liana through for years, he can’t wait to show him that Liana isn’t alone anymore. I loved seeing him take charge and know exactly how to keep Liana protected while at the same time giving her the space she needs to put on her best shows. And he’s a generous and sexy lover too (really, all of Zoe’s male characters have this trait, Pine Harbour is like Disneyland for women) so we get some steamy scenes with him and Liana. Dean feels some guilt about this even though Liana is clear that she’s not expecting anything more from him then what they have right now. But for Dean, his feelings for Liana and his responsibility to do his job start to intertwine until he can’t picture his life without her.

I really liked how Liana’s character is portrayed as well. Her anxiety is believable and written authentically, and I appreciated how she came to realize that seeking professional help would be to her benefit. Having Dean around definitely helps, but he isn’t a therapist and he’s smart enough to know that Liana needs more than just what we can give her. At the same time, Liana comes across as a genuinely loving and caring person who treats her band members and her fans well. She’s a strong woman and sometimes being strong means knowing when to ask for help. She’s also a very talented songwriter and singer, hard working and deserving of her fame even if she’s realizing that she might want to make some changes in her career. In the end, Dean and Liana find the compromise they need to make their relationship a long-term one and we get a sweet happy ending to their romance. Every story in the Pine Harbour series has featured a strong cast of likable characters and a delightful romance, sometimes poignant, always sexy, and definitely worth having on your shelf. I recommend them all without reservation.

I quite enjoyed it while I was reading this one, but it's a bit lost in everything that came after. I did find it a bit strange that a musician of that caliber DIDN'T have security already, to be completely honest. Dean is a great older brother, though, I cannot say that enough.

Country singer meets bodyguard...

She's a hot shot country singer and he's an ex cop turned bodyguard.
But really quite frankly why she needed a bodyguard is beyond me...she needed a therapist!
It was a very long winded, predictable book. The usual, I don't do relationships, I don't want to hurt you, and, I'm not good enough for you blah blah blah, but they were getting down and dirty within days! As a bodyguard he sucked btw!
Apparently he's 30 something, and she's nearly 30, but man did they act like teenagers!?
I found this book free, knowing it was book 5 in the series but it was easy enough to follow as a standalone.

DNF chapter 17.

I tried to like to like this book, but my attention kept on drifting. I skim and skip paragraphs and chapters, hoping something will catch my eye, but finally give up at Chapter 17.

Not a badly written book, but I didn't find the plot or characters intriguing enough for me to continue.

Dean and Liana story was so beautiful! I loved everything about these two. He was so sweet and caring of Liana. He knew exactly what she needed and she did the same for him too. So happy they got the ending they deserved! 💙

I absolutely can't wait to read all about Sean next! ☺

Oh how I love this series! This is the series that started my love for all things Zoe York. She is such a talented author and always manages to put a smile on my face with each and every book she writes. This installment of the Pine Harbour series takes us out of Pine Harbour and on tour with a country singer named Liana. Liana has the unfortunate situation of having to work with her ex-fiancée. A jerk of a man that likes to make things difficult for her while on tour and just with her music in general. This tense relationship sent her fleeing to Pine Harbour to stay with her best friend for a while for a much needed escape. She was beginning to develop a high level of anxiety and panic that is now interfering with her ability to cope. This is where she crosses paths with Dean Foster! Ex- military hottie turned bodyguard... ummmmm... yes, please!
I really love Dean and how he hovers over the well being of his brothers. He is the type of guy that puts his own needs to the side for everyone else. He is the ultimate tall, dark and sexy type and 100% male... but he has a big heart. My favorite type of guy!
Liana's friend is concerned for her well being and her career so she hires Dean to be Liana's bodyguard in an effort to get her back on the road on her music tour. And, what an awesome friend she has to pair her up with such a delicious man! We all need friends like that to watch our back... wink wink... :)
Turns out that Dean is exactly what she needed. Not only for her career, but also for her heart. And, Dean finally finds something for himself after all of his years of worry and sacrifice taking care of his brothers.
I love country music so this installment turned out to be one of my favorites. It was a nice change of pace to take us out of Pine Harbour and into a slightly different world than the previous books.
I love how all of these books are about small town Pine Harbour... a place that also seems to be the center of attention for actresses, musicians and such as a sort of "getaway". So, I get the small town romance that I tend to favor with the added benefit of a little holiday away to the big life. A clever combination that really works. Zoe York does a fabulous job blending the two worlds together to give us that little edge of something different to make her small town romance stand out from the others in the same genre.
I love all things Zoe York and I highly recommend this series to the small town romance fan!

Many thanks to the author for the complimentary ARC!

Slipping into a Zoe York book is like slipping into an old, comfortable pair of pajamas. This book was no exception. Her writing style is so easy and laid-back, just a conversation between friends. The kind of friends who share the most intimate details and feelings.

It's hard not to fall in love with Zoe's characters and to feel as if you know them personally. She creates entire towns full of these people and their friends and relatives, and then she tells their individual stories so that you get to know each of them intimately. They're human, but reflect the best in all of us. They fall in love. They do their best to be kind to one another. They discuss their feelings. And they choose to place their faith in one another. Every story, eventually, ends with an HEA.

Love on the Run is different because most of it does not take place in Pine Harbor. But it starts and it ends there. It's a small town romance with a Nashville country star, but it works because deep down she's just a small-town country girl. It's a fun story and I recommend it.

Love is like a free fall for the senses, it can't be controlled but is exhilarating non - the- less. Liana and Dean are the personification of a bad idea. She's famous and thrives on the spotlight. He's a loner more comfortable in the background. Liana's career is full of bright lights, big cities and attentive fans. Dean's always on alert and does his best work in the shadows. She's the client. He's her protector. Love On The Run is about stepping outside of one's comfort zone and trying something new. The irony is that sometimes the worse decisions, turn out to be the most rewarding experiences. Ms. York captured the shell shocked emotions of attraction and romance well.

Liana Hansen, star country singer is under pressure, on tour and runs to her best friend in Pine Harbour to have a short break after a panic attack. Her friend hires a private security man to protect and help Liana finish her tour.

Dean Foster is large, impressive and insightful and a perfect man to help Liana. I loved when her fans named him 'Arm Guy' and he became part of her tour group. He is a wonderful match to protect Liana from her slimy ex and supports Liana in a way that meets her needs.

Both Liana and Dean are mature people thrown together on a tour in Love on the Run, and find romance and a happy ending to another great book by Zoe York.

2.5 stars. In the minority with my review.
Grabbed as a free read but I have apparently read others in this series.
Read it but cannot remember it already as I found it easy to put down and forget.
I just didn’t connect to either Liana or Dean, the main characters, found them bland and at times confusing to understand their thinking.

With my finishing this book, I’ve read all eight of Zoe York’s Pine Harbour series. Not gonna lie...I’m a little sad. With the exception of the last book in the series, they’ve all been fantastic! So, really, it’s a good thing I had this one lingering somewhat hidden on my Kindle (until I found out it was on sale and went to purchase it but discovered I already owned it...which, if that isn’t an indication I have TOO MANY books on my Kindle, I don’t what is...and sorrrryyy for that rabbit trail) because who wants to finish a series on a down note???

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled review.

Love on the Run isn’t your typical bodyguard romance. I mention it because if you love that trope and are looking for a suspense-filled, action packed story...that’s not what you get here. That’s not to say it isn’t still fantastic, though.

Liana Hansen is a famous country music star who’s been on the rise since she first hit the scene 12 years ago at the young age of 18. But recently she’s started having some...episodes...that cause her to doubt herself and her career. After one particularly bad incident that had her rushing off the stage at the end of a concert, she leaves the tour group during a short break and escapes to Pine Harbour - to the home of her best friend, actress Hope Creswell (from Pine Harbour #3). Seeing her best friend isn’t in a good state of mind, Hope decides to hire Dean Foster as a bodyguard to accompany Liana for the last couple of months of the tour.

Dean Foster has recently retired from the Pine Harbour police force and is new to the bodyguard gig. Which is a good thing - he’s more of a hired friend whose job is to make sure Liana is insulated from the stress of being on the road, and less of an armed, muscled man there to protect her from danger. Not that he couldn’t keep her safe if need be, but that’s not really his role this time. Of course, the more time he spends with Liana, the harder it is to control his overwhelming attraction to her - especially when the attraction is mutual.

The thing I love best about Zoe York’s books is that they aren’t filled with a bunch of ridiculous crap (for lack of a more eloquent word). There’s no droning on and on about how hot the hero or heroine is, no repeated inner monologues about how they can’t be with the other person. There’s no over-the-top drama, no self-created angst. The characters have hangups and trauma from their pasts to work through, and sometimes do stupid things as a result. But there’s always a good friend or family member to help them get their head screwed back on straight. I love Ms. York’s writing and I love her stories. They just make me smile every single time!

So yeah, I’m really sad to be saying goodbye to the Foster and MInelli clans of Pine Harbour. Thankfully, there’s a new series about another Pine Harbour family - and I can’t wait to read them all!

Another lovely story from Pine Harbour! This story about newly retired police officer/new security guy, Dean, and country music star, Liana, made me feel good.
Liana was such a relatable character. She is dealing with a lot of anxiety around her career that mostly stems from her jerk ex who is also her boss. I love when a MMC is so emotionally mature. He was almost a full service therapist in himself but he doesn't try to fix her. He just wants to support her however he can. Dean has his own problems. His mom died when he was 12 years old and he feel emotionally stunted since his dad didn't really do much parenting after that. He's never had a serious relationship before this one but he's pretty much gone for Liana from the start. It's so cute.
These two had honest, mature conversations about what was going on in their heads. They defined their relationship and there weren't all these games and no third act break up. Sometimes a book with no angst is just what the doctor ordered.
This book has:
-3rd person/dual POV
-emotionally mature characters
-a little bit of a cop role play that was fun :)
-FMC with relatable anxiety issues that are supported by the MMC but she does go to a therapist and it's all just so healthy
-standalone novel, though I missed seeing the other people from Pine Harbour
-kinda forced proximity since they're on a tour together
-little/no angst, no 3rd act breakup
-HEA
These MMCs make it hard to decide who is my favorite....I think it's still Zander but man oh man...those Foster boys....

easy read, sweet and fluffy - no real tension or issues

This is a good feel read. Pretty slow, minimal spice. I thought there would be more tension with Liana’s ex and him escalating or causing a 3rd act break up / angst / situation … but he was wrapped up nicely and put away easily.

Same thing with Dean and Liana … he said multiple times he wasn’t a relationship man and wasn’t staying … I thought maybe there may be some tension or 3rd act situation with that… but it’s like one chapter he was saying all that and then the next he’s in love with her. Kinda felt like chapters were missing almost. Just felt very sudden, like the story needed to be wrapped up after 80% of it being most just tour stuff.

Admittedly this author does make sure her main characters get a lot of time together to talk and develop feelings so that’s really awesome but I do wonder if it sometimes that results in no plot or a plot with no direction leading to a rushed ending.

5 stars. Ok it's official I'm packing my bags and moving to the Bruce Peninsula because seriously these Foster/Minelli men have to be the best book boyfriends. This was Dean and Liana's story and boy for a man who doesn't believe he is forever material he sure knows all the right things to tell a girl (I felt myself swoon seriously!). When Dean and Zander's first client is a country music star reluctant for their help it is up to Dean to act as her bodyguard. Suffering from anxiety and panic attacks Loans is struggling to carry on with her tour. Dean helps her along the way and becomes her 'rock' but their sexual attraction to one another is hard to resist. This was a great read and I love all the characters from the Pine Harbour series. The men are Alpha without being overbearing and at last a series where I haven't wanted to throttle the heroines. Great recommended read.

Love On The Run is a fabulous contemporary romance by Zoe York. Ms. York has provided readers with a book that is well-written and populated with a spectacular cast of characters. Dean is new to the private security business but he takes his first job being a bodyguard to country music star Liana. Liana fled to her best friend after having a panic attack after a show. Her friend hires a Dean to watch over Liana when she goes back to join her tour. Dean and Liana's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle and a touch of suspense. I loved reading this book and look forward to my next book by Zoe York. Love On The Run is book 5 of the Pine Harbour Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Another book boyfriend

Zoey York is a good writer and I love her characters, situations, and settings. I keep reading because I love this series and each hero is one of my book boyfriends 😍😍😍 Dean is so sweet to Lianna yet still a bad ass. The only negative is lack of climax to justify the building angst Lianna goes through because of Track. He's the reason Dean is her bodyguard because Track intimidates and belittles her. Suddenly, she's free of his control and free to pursue the career she wants.

Unfortunately this is a trend for York, as well as other writers, in that the major conflict or source of angst magically disappears and we reach the end.

I enjoyed returning to this series and characters. While I liked Dean and Liana, I felt the story suffered from too much internal dialogue, along the lines of I'm not good enough for her/I'm too messed up for him. I wished for more character backstory and more action in the plot. The major conflict fizzled out, from the buildup I was expecting a little more. However, the sexy times were sizzling. As the characters cross over throughout this series, I know I'll revisit these two again. I do like this author, and she sets up a great teaser for the next book. I want to see what happens next. 3.5 stars.

I thought this was a decent read. Dean and Liana both think they aren’t relationship material and find out differently. Dean has just left the police department and gone into partnership with Zander to start a security company. We met Liana in Hope’s book as her bff, and she is in Pine Harbour licking her wounds after a breakdown on tour. Hope instigates Dean becoming Liana’s bodyguard as Liana rejoins her tour. Lots of chemistry between Dean and Liana and we are brought along in the story to watch their connection bloom. This was a middle of the road book in the series for me, not my favorite but not the worst. I thought it was worth my time to read.

Loved!!!

Loved the story! Dean is adorable and hot. Arm guy! Haha. Love how protective he is over her and not just for the job. I liked how he immediately took defense of her and hope and that he recognized when someone was not a good guy. Eww Track was evil. Loved her band mates they were so adorable and cute with their quirks. Liana and deans banter was hot and the tension was there from the beginning. So HOT! Not surprised. These fosters and Minnelli boys look like they could throw steam anywhere. Can’t wait for Sean’s book!!!

Finding Your True Self

Great story of two people finding what made them happy in love and life. Liana is a singer and song writer. She was stuck in a bad place because of a contract she signed when she was very young. The person who owned the contract was an ex who was married but took joy in harassing her. She visited a friend who suggested she hire a body guard. She hired Dean and I was the best decision she ever made. The story of how they both changed and morfed into a team was great.

Dean is determined to be a bachelor all his life because he doesn't want to hurt anyone or be hurt again like he was when his mom died when he was young. The he meets Loans who is just as broken as he is but for different reasons. Can they help each other overcome their last to look forward to a future together? Will they overcome their trust issues?

And they were they meet, but going on your with her is new, but he makes her feel safe, they try to fight their feelings, but it doesn't work.

Recently found this author and have read just one relatively short book before this one, which also means I’ve started reading mid-series on this one. That did not matter at all for this story. It was a solidly enjoyable story of a country music artist battling some anxiety and self doubt and the ex-cop hired as her bodyguard. I expected a little more drama before the I love you’d and HEA but liked this and will be immediately reading his brother Sean’s story.
