Digby finally has everything he wants: the heist went off without a hitch, the shards of the Heretic Seed are in his possession, and Autem is in disarray. All he has to do is unlock the power he’s stolen. But it seems that restoring the Seed to its former glory is easier said than done. Something has gone wrong, and it’s up to Digby to fix it, whether he wants to or not.
Trapped within a twisted realm of memories, he’s forced to compete against the souls of past Heretics in a game of death with his existence on the line. Not as big a fan of this one. It is cool to see the Vegas crew dealing with stuff without Dig for a good part of the book, but that final act, ow, it hurt my heart. Devastating. I will hold out hope that this will lead to interesting things though.

Okay while 'most' of this book is great, amazing and fun. Getting more in depths time with others and some plot points wrapped up...
The ending. The ending is horrible. Not in the emotional horrible way but in the, this is stupid sort of way.
I won't spoil anything , at least try not to, but something happens where there is danger. Dig is there and everyone else, but while everyone else is struggling. Dig is just there holding someone. That's it. He does nothing. Literally in every other situation he does something but this time he does ...nothing.
It comes off as purely for plot purposes. Dig doesn't use Blood Forge to make a ladder or platform like in other time, he does latter when they need handholds. He doesn't use limitless to pull people to him, he doesn't use Temporary mass to jump down and help. He doesn't use Emerald Flame to radiation poison some enemies to keep them away. He doesn't use his new spells to long distance slash them. He doesn't even TRY to use his new 'healing' spell to heal people who are hurt, even though it's might from the original use, take foreign objects out of people or purify. Nope, doesn't try it.
He literally does nothing except his stupid 'hold his hands out towards them' gestures he always does. What is up with him holding his hand out towards people all the time?!? Who does this?
So yeah, it comes off as purely plot. Then when they got to rush somewhere else, Parker doesn't even try her spells either to go back. It all comes off as just for the plot which is horrible.
While the book is great and wil read the next for sure, this ending just keeps you up going...WTF? Dig just jump down, kill the very very very few baddies, and help. Don't just stand there and it's not like it happens 'in a instant' it's a good long scene of talking back and forth as bad things are happening.

I really love these books. They’re fun and continue to evolve in interesting ways. This one combines characters in new plot lines that I thought at first I wouldn’t like. But it worked and made each of them more interesting. I appreciate that every book has concluded a climax, providing resolution every time, while ending with engaging questions that have me searching for the release date of the next book.
The books continue to avoid many of the more obnoxious habits that some lengthy series fall into. The plot isn’t convoluted. There aren’t a million POV swaps and the swaps that happen don’t leave you frustrated on cliff hangers. There isn’t excessive romance and there isn’t a single preachy monologue about religion or politics, despite the fact that the plot is affected by both things. There aren’t any slogs, and the magic system doesn’t take a PhD to understand. They really are just good fun.
Huge bonus points for the fantastic narrator Travis Baldree. As much as I enjoy the story, it wouldn’t be as entertaining without his voices.

the entire book was a damn dream
Almost 600 pages and your turn it into a bullshit dream where they fight and half the dang book isn’t even the mf I loved the series till now but what the actual f*** I hate when authors do this crap it ruins the whole series what we’re you thinking continue the series where it left instead of making a whole book that take a god da** year to release and YOU MAKE IT CANON WHY IS IT SO HARD TO JUST CONTINUE THE GOD DA** story as it is instead you have to make up some bull sh** and YOU MAKE IT A WHOLE DA** BOOK WTF IF I COULD LEAVE 0 stars I would this crap makes me not even wanna continue the series cause what’s the FU***** point when you make a whole dang book canon start a new series and make that the canon series don’t Continue the series and ruin a whole book you piece of sh**

Digby and his fellow heretics have succeeded in retrieving all of the shards of the heretic seed. The plan was to restore the seed into one piece, to have more access to it. Once the spell is cast to restore the seed and the shards start flying together, Digby remembers the shard lodged in his heart.
For the most part, this book is very different than the previous three. It fills in a lot of history of this world. Of course, this opens a whole new set of questions. As always, Travis Baldree does an amazing job. Enjoy Digby’s inception.

It’s not Bela Lugosi, but Digby Graves is quite a character - for a zombie. We start the book with Digby struggling to find his way back into reality after “dying” yet again. But this time, the rules and changed and he spends most of the book with that struggle. At the same time, his horde(?) of living people in Las Vegas find themselves dealing with surviving and the nagging fear that something isn’t quite right.

Craving for more!
Another good story addition from Petrie. With the mother of all cliffhangers, the ending leaves you wanting to jump straight to the next story. The overall story was good, the pacing at times flagged, but everything is set up as needed for future events. I'm looking forward to see where Digby's story goes from here!

This book was fantastic.
Digby's character development over the course of the book is huge, and by the end I shed actual tears. Cleverly timed subversion of expectation and hugely emotional character interplay makes this a fantastic installment to the series and I can't wait for the next book.
Also per the usual, Travis Baldree is fantastic, zero complaints there.

fun
Digby fixes the heretic stone and gets knocked out. His mind goes exploring the world of the stone while everyone else tries to get the city working. Digby gets free in time to find he had been betrayed and his friends in danger. He … saves them. Now he goes to war.

So this book was simply phenomenal there is literally no other way to say it. But that ending why oh why end it that way just one more chapter I absolutely need the next book like now there is no question that I will be listening to it when it comes out.

This is an absolutely, no doubt about it, fanfuckingtastic book! Just about perfect in every way. Everything came together so seamlessly. Awesome character development, from our two MC's to side characters that felt anything but. 👍🏾👍🏾

Slow but there’s payoff.
The book starts off slow and mostly feels like a very long interlude. But if you’ve enjoyed the series enough to see it through to the end then the finale of the book packs an emotional punch.

This is a really fun series that hasn't gone stale yet. Audiobook narrator is amazing and the story is fun and lively (pun intended). Can't wait for the next installment.

This one was a roller coaster. I don't understand the negative reviews on it though...I enjoyed this one...weaker than the rest so far but still a fun time with an ending that keeps me intrigued

Worst book of the bunch by a mile for me, just didn’t care for story elements too dragged out from previous books. The newer concept of a zombie main character isn’t carrying as hard in this middle book realm.
Still probably going to read the next book but this was a significant downslide from the previous books.

While this volume still holds a lot of what made the previous ones interesting, plot convenience and formula has started to set in, in a noticeable way.
Action scenes are still irremediably bad, with characters having long conversations during fights; nothing new here. Unfortunately it made me start to skip all fights because I found them so cringe.
The interpersonal drama is not stellar, but decent, if you can get past the constant cheesy lines. While it seems at first like we're going on a more introspective trip this turn around, it turns out we actually don't: we keep repeating the same points over and over, until they lose any impact.
Tired tropes abound, both on the protagonists and antagonists side. Both the protagonists and antagonists avoid logical behaviour for plot convenience. By the end of the book, events are just scrolling by with little emotional momentum.
The final twist felt really cheap and b-movie level melodramatic.
I think I've squeezed all I was meant to find in this series. I'll stop here.

Necrotic Apocalypse
Another great book in the series, though there were some errors like in David's other books but the story is so interesting that I can look past it. It's interesting to see how the magic progression works in the book and what spells our Heretics learn. My favorite character by far is Asher. Though I found myself laughing out loud and taking screenshots of Parker's lines, we talk exactly the same!
