Mobilized: An Insider's Guide to the Business and Future of Connected Technology [16 Pt Large Print Edition]

Rate this book
That person slumped over her cell phone is disengaged, isolated, lost in her own little world, right? Wrong, says SC Moatti. She's highly engaged - she's having a text conversation with a friend in Europe, playing a game with another, and looking for a good place to go to dinner with a third. Mobile technology has become such an integral part of how we interact that for many people losing a cell phone is like losing a limb. And the most successful mobile apps that are precisely those that enhance and multiply the frequency and power of our real - world interactions. Moatti - a technologist and industry insider - says these kinds of mobile apps adhere to three universal principles: they must have a simple design, enable the user to personalize them, and be continually improved by their makers through relentless attention to analytics. She uses examples from a host of great mobile app creators - Facebook, Yelp, Lyft, Tinder, Aerbnb, Trulia, WhatsApp, and more - to demonstrate how it's done. Even as technology evolves and smartphones are replaced by smaller mobile devices such as watches and contact lenses, these three principles will remain evergreen. The market is full of how - to books for creating apps, but no works examine what qualities make for great mobile products. Until now.

The author is clearly very experienced, smart and has lots of knowledge. However, the book falls parts in one major aspect:

The analogy to the Body, Mind, and Spirit Trilogy is extremely forced and inconsistent. I appreciate the effort the of building a structure for what differentiate the good from the rest, but the way it was presented is not convincing at all and the mapping of Mind, Spirit is arbitrary at best.

The good part is that the book has great analyses of products and services and great pointers to other books that seem more promising. It's a short/light book that I didn't spend a lot of time reading (and wouldn't recommend anyone to take it very seriously).

The bottomline is, the book is potentially inspiring, but probably disappointing.

The book has lots of business cases from the real mobile apps development process like Trulia app for example. Being a Mobile Product manager myself I see the book as an extended knowledge on the user acquisition, mobile marketing and mobile strategy. I visited a number of ProductsThatCounts events in San Francisco and some of the topics from the book were covered on the meetup events that the author is leading. I would definitely recommend 'Mobilized' to mobile industry professionals.

I was fortunate to pre-read much of this book. SC Moatti shares a ton of insight about the world of mobile and where it is headed. Excellent read for anyone working in or interested in the space.

Let's say you are a product manager, and your product missed the boat on mobile apps. Your boss calls you at home in San Diego, and asks you to fly to a all-hands-on-deck meeting the next morning in Chicago. The best thing you may be able to do to prepare yourself is reading this book, with enough time to spare before arrival, to dream up the application for your business.

More a booklet than a book, S.C. Moatti has lots of experience to share and distills the essential features of mobile applications down to a very short, illuminating and informative way. A good, not stellar book, enjoyable only for people faced with the task of designing successful apps for the mobile economy.

This not a technical book.

A Staggeringly Insightful Analysis of the Mobile Revolution

Gotta love learning about this rapid change in culture and business from one who pioneered it. The author has you appreciating the power, beauty and utility of mobility as an ideal amplification of our human spirit - deeply personal, connected and immediate.

Besides being beautifully written, the book is highly philosophical, forward thinking and engaging from the first page. I’m skeptical about reading books on technology but this one’s a must read because it’s also about design, the direction of business in general and the new, personal way in which we interact with the boundless phone technology that’s in our pockets.

This is a framework or a set of philosophical rules to make a great mobile app. Many things vague here, so I said it as philosophical, but we could understand it and meditate to our problems. This book useful mainly for app developers mainly as a basic guideline to make a better mobile app.

The intersection between mobile user experience and business was the main topic of this book. Case studies were interesting. As someone in UX, I enjoyed the perspective of the mobile objective in design.

This book entails the importance of responsive websites and apps. Even though the data is a couple of years old, it's still relevant if you're trying to convince senior management to move to mobile.

I liked Moatti's holistic approach to the mobile world and the world that "mobilization" has been creating. Her overview is especially valuable since she has been personally involved in sticking others to their phones from the heydays of Nokia. I hope that we will get to read more works by Moatti.

Must read for anyone involved or interested in how mobile works.

I read this book with my audible app. This was an easy read with concepts that were supported by real world cases. In this book there are principles that I could apply today to my business. Highly recommended.

I received this book as a First Read. It has a few interesting case studies and raises some interesting points. However, the book is exceptionally dry and lacks passion. It also reads more like a series of Reddit posts (including TLDR) than a book.
