Heart of Texas #6

Lone Star Baby

Rate this book
Wade MCMillen might be a minister, but he's also a man. An unmarried and very attractive one. Is it as a "man" that he responds to the lovely young woman who shows up in Promise, pregnant and alone? Or as a man of God? Maybe it's both. Amy Thornton hopes to make a new life for herself and her baby, and to do that, she "needs" Reverend McMillen's help, his compassion. What she "wants" is the love of a man named Wade..

Too many reviews to do! I could spend a day writing this review, this book was really good. Not above and beyond, but still good. I loved Amy and Wade, and all their cute moments. I am finding that the whole "marriage" thing in romance books is so much more satisfying than the "might not be together forever" kind of thing.

I don't know, I might just be weird.

Well... I am am weird, but you guys don't know that. 🤫😂

Anyways, so Amy is pregnant, her mother has always been less of a parent, and has basically told her she is worthless her whole life. And then she gets seen, by someone, someone who says he loves her, and then it ends with him being married and her on a bus to who knows where. She just needs to go somewhere else than her hometown.

There she meets the town of Promise, Texas. She gets a home to borrow and as many friends as a girl could ask for. And it doesn't hurt that there is a cute pastor named Wade that is starting to fall for her. And her for him.

This book is super sweet and it goes through the life of being a practically homeless pregnant female, and the ways that God blesses us with the sense of home, family, and love wherever you go.

CONTENT: This book is clean!!!🤩🤩🤩 But I would watch out for some of the moments in this book, it talks about the pain of having the baby, Amy's water breaking, and some other things. Nothing that bad, but with someone younger you can never be too careful.

I hope you enjoyed my review! I hope to get a few more out this week since I have like 7 to do... but hey, a girl has to have time off, right? 😉 -RR

I just love her writing. I know it's sappy and way to sweet, but it is just nice to read about nice people. Everything in the world today is dark and hateful; so sometimes it's refreshing to read about people who care about people.

This book is number six in Debbie Macomber’s Heart of Texas series. Bring a Texan myself, I enjoy reading fiction written by authors who don’t live here but try to capture the essence with their words and imagination

Lone Star Baby is a sweet story that takes place in a small town called Promise. In so many ways, this little community reminded me of a real Texas town, named Muleshoe, where we lived for six wonderful years.

The characters in Debbie’s books are always well-developed and memorable, like Wade, a local minister in Promise. Frank is the town’s sheriff, and then there’s Dr. Jane, a big-city girl who began a new life as a small town doctor (in the previous book) and now tends to the health of many who love and trust her care.

But in this story, it’s Amy who captures the reader’s heart. Her life has taken a turn she didn’t expect, and now she doesn’t really known where to turn. But as Providence would have it, Amy winds up in Promise, Texas where the people are warm and welcoming, and where Amy finds the miracles she hoped to receive.

If you like to read tales of everyday life that always end happy, you’ll love Debbie Macomber’s books. And if you wonder what it’s like to live in a small Texas town where everybody knows your name, the Heart of Texas series is for you. But if you also would relish a good story of a lost young woman who finds herself finally at home, Lone Star Baby will make your day.

This was 3 hours and 37 minutes well spent!

Lone Star Baby:

This one really got into the story of the two main characters, not hitting so much on the other characters from the previous stories or over doing it about what happened with Bitter End. The author really developed these two characters relationship.

This one made me laugh, often and brought about that "good feeling" about the characters, too. I really like this one.

I also like how the story of Bitter End played out. Very cute idea and very creative. Loved many of the ideas and lines the author came up with.

Nell's Cowboy:

I thought I'd also comment on this one, seeing they put it together with, Lone Star Baby, in Vol 3, Heart of Texas Series.

I didn't really like this one. There were not enough encounters with Nell and Travis, though I did like them and liked the idea of the story. The author just spent way too much time on going over what was in the first four books. That might have been good if I hadn't read them, and especially if I hadn't JUST read them. The writing was well done, just the story of the two main characters was so brief, it was hard to get into it.

I did like what she did with the results to the Bitter End Town. Very creative.

I absolutely loved this one. It was so adorable and sweet, its as if you had no other choice but to love it.

Story:

When Amy Thornton decided to stay in Promise, Texas; she didn't think that the man she asked for miracles would actually help make them come true.

Wade McMillen was all to happy to help Amy. As the town's pastor its his job to help others in need, but what he never thought he would be confused on, was whether or not the eagerness to help was more for the love of his job or his steady growing attraction to Amy.

Ah!! Love this. I tend to read books out of order, which could be regrettable or turn out okay. But since the author like recounting how each character couple came about, I feel I wasn't totally left in the dark. And I liked how heartfelt each character was and how the mystery of the town came full circle. Mrs. Macomber did a great job on this one.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!! And as always……

Happy Reading!!! :)

This was an OK story, but a predictable gothic romance: boy meets girl, they fall in love, they have a fight then get married to live happily ever after. Not my kind of story. I read it because it was part of "Heart of Texas, Vol 3"

Intoxicatingly sweet. Amy Thornton pulls into the town of Promise with nothing but a suitcase and a baby in her stomach. Essentially homeless with no one to turn to and only 6 months till her baby is born, Amy is in need of a miracle. When she falls asleep on a church pew, she’s awakened by the town’s young and handsome preacher, Wade McMillen. Seeing she’s in need of some help he asks if she’s in need any miracles, Amy responds saying she wouldn’t mind a home, job, and a husband for her baby. A man of his word, Wade is able to find Amy a place to stay and a job within a few hours. However Amy reminded him she still in need of a father. But Wade could not deny the fact that he is extremely attracted to Amy, and could most definitely see himself as apart of her life. Amy blends seamlessly into the town, and blossoms around the supportive community. Unfortunately a few people aren’t too keen with preacher Wade associating with an unmarried pregnant woman, and Amy begins to worry about her impact on Wade’s reputation. But as Wade proves time and time again he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks he loves her.
Reallllly amazingly sweet. A feel good read for sure. I loved the relationship between Amy and Wade, I’m aware it’s very unrealistic but it’s still adorable. Very hallmark reminiscent actually. Wade is just a great guy, I loved that he immediately helped Amy through her pregnancy and did everything he could to support her when she had no one. I usually HATE pregnancy tropes but this was really cute. Loved Promise, it had great small town vibes, and literally is my dream town. LITERALLY THE ENDING WAS SO CUTE! Amy ends up giving birth in a cursed ghost town, that was cursed because a preachers son had died there. But when they go back after the birth the plants and roses came back to life, and Travis lets us know that the curse must be gone because “a preachers son was born in the town”. I audibly said aw. Loved it, great vibes and a quick read.

Since this book is not really in the genres that I normally read my take on the book may not be that accurate to someone who enjoys romance novels. Although it is written very well, I found the story very one-dimensional and predictable. There is little to draw the reader in and the premise that the story is based on seems contrived. The book does provide a comforting story of love and fate and the general goodness of people but it comes off more like a fairytale instead of a story that would mimic real life. Again I understand that people like that type of writing and storytelling and if you do you will probably enjoy this book, it's just not for me.

I'm still a fan of Debbie Macomber's books. Tis one was a bit slow for me, and I fell asleep twice reading it. I could have just been tired but I'm not sure. Anyway, it is a sweet story of a pastor and a young pregnant woman who moves into a small town and finds a new life for herself and her unborn child I wish the world was a nice as the one in this story, people willing to help others without worry. Anyway, I liked the story a lot.

I finished the second story of this book. I'm a Big fan of this author and this book was no exception. Both Nell's Cowboy and Lone Star Baby were great to be read together. I've rated both books 5 *. There seemed to be a lot of action centered around an old Ghost Town. I really liked the characters in this series. This author writes clean stories and they leave me with a good feeling when I'm done.

i enjoyed the story especially since i have read the other promise texas books. However there were some troubling aspects to it. The language this pastor uses is very offputting the fact that he got into a fist fight with a guy and the fact that his parents so easily accepted him dating a single pregnant mom. But i did enjoy it would read it again and would recommend it

I highly recommend "The Heart of Texas" series. Start with "Lonesome Cowboy" and read them in order. The stories are thrilling and keep you on the edge of your seat. I found them hard to put down. The stories have romance, excitement, and adventure. There is even a ghost town and cowboys.
I plan on reading more books by Debbie Macomber.

Yes!! An amazing story. Amy arrives and asks Wade for 3 miracles. The first 2 happened quickly. Dovie and Frank love Amy like the daughter they never had. Wade loves her and her unborn baby. There are a couple of mean women.

This is a fitting conclusion to the series, but now it appears there are two more books about Promise, Texas. So the story continues.

I enjoyed this story even if it was a bit too unreal for me. I only hope this would be the case if a stranger came to town in this condition.
