Leveling up has truly changed Yuuya’s life. In the real world, things have done a complete 180. He’s getting used to his new school and making fast friends—which includes a fluffy companion in the other world. Meanwhile, thanks to his physical prowess and good looks, his popularity is through the roof (though he’s oblivious to this). He’s also finally learned how to use magic! Will it be enough to help him survive fires, assassins, and trials in the wilderness?!
Thinking about downgrading the first book to a two. Because technically this is an improvement. not in pacing. But it does introduce some new every-powers. It's book two and after struggling so long our hero learns magic. Honestly I'm surprised Tenjou would need to learn magic. It's also been the one thing he's needed to practice to use. Kinda.
Then there's also the introduction of the two hit monsters. So powerful they can't be one shot. I know he's living like a hermit in the deep forest but he doesn't need money so I've often wondered why not keep some of the gear. It might make a nice gift. After all he does rescue a princess and train with a half-elf girl and is scheduled to meet the king. All of his drops are amazing but because he has ultra S-Class gear he just junks it all for money he doesn't need or use. I feel like I'm giving into the ridiculousness of this series but… If it ever me :sigh: I'd keep some of it and hand it off to people who were cool to me and he's got three targets in this place. Might as well convert when you need the money since you don't want to put it in a bank anyway.
Speaking of which as I further indulge this fantasy might as well look into some way to launder the money. Maybe buy some art. Maybe spend some weekends at the dogtracks.
But progressionwise this time we get magic, we get two hit monsters and we have a training arc such that it is one physical with the elf girl and one spiritual with the magic book that knows everything including what he's thinking in response to reading the book that then blesses him with unrestricted magic.
We even have a proper cliffhanger. I mean there are 16 of these and I feel like so far I haven't even read a full season's worth which is honesty kinda different from most light novels I read. Honestly the cliffhanger is so much better than last book that I'm gonna go ahead and drop Book 1 down to two stars.
Overall, this second volume brings a good story in line with the firat volume. Action scenes are a little bit overboard in some cases (really, bear wrestling!) and boring in other cases. The plot is getting better, and it would be nice to have a more character development. Apart from the introduction of Luna, the rest of the characters don't get any. The action scenes in the present world are getting too ridiculous, and I hope it tones down a bit in future volumes.
Last we checked, Yuuya saved Princess Lexia and Lexia proposed to Yuuya. So now that Golden Week is upon him, Yuuya hopes to meet Lexia’s Father, the King. However, their plans are spoiled when a mysterious masked assassin comes and tries to kill Lexia again.
Yuuya learns magic and befriends a Black Fenrir Puppy. He even attends a survival camp and fights a bear. As I mentioned before, I enjoy stories like this. Hopefully, the author finds a use for the guitar Yuuya owns.
It’s an extremely generic book, as is expected, but it’s one of the best in its genre of “generic-ness”.
So, so many plot holes come up, that I willfully ignore since this books isn’t something that should be taken that seriously. It’s a lighthearted journey of a guy whose been shamed his whole life receiving unbelievable power. Don’t sweat the little things.
Hopefully volume 3 doesn’t take another century to come out.
This series is easy to read, has action where you want it, budding romance where it's needed and more. Love the storyline, the writing style and the characters. Keeps your attention and makes you want more!
I love this series and cannot wait to see what happens next!! Really wish this book was longer because it was amazing and so many things came about with that ending.
Loved it. Just like the anime but deeper. Only issue is that I’m surprised people aren’t asking more questions. But that is why we love the fantasy right?
