If you did not want mayhem, you should not have hired a talking cat.
Blessed (or cursed, depending on who you ask) with human intelligence, Sir Edgar Allan Kipling, magical talking cat extraordinaire, spends most of his time keeping his human wizard out of trouble—whether she wants him to or not. If she knew what he usually got up to, she would protest most vociferously. But sometimes a cat’s gotta do what a cat’s gotta do, and one can watch only so many soap operas before an offer of mischief and adventure is too good to turn down.
Now with an artifact to steal, and saddled with allies far too eager to yank his tail, Sir Kipling will have to bring every bit of his snark and wiles to bear if he wants to succeed. Failure could mean much worse than danger to his he might miss his nap.
If you are a cat person, you will adore this book. If you are a dog person, you will also adore this book, and upon completion will be inexplicably compelled to go out and adopt a cat. You have been warned.
A new novella in a beloved series that already has over 2000+ five star ratings on Amazon and Goodreads and over a quarter million copies sold. Chock full of snarky cat humor and magical adventure, you won’t be able to put it down. Great for fans of urban fantasy from Harry Potter to Harry Dresden, and fans of beloved cat characters like Cheshire Cat, Crookshanks, Salem, and Mogget.

This was my first introduction to the series and I think it works well as a stand alone. I didn't feel lost for having not read the rest of the series although reading this did make me curious to read the ones that came before. The characters are fun and interesting. The story is well written. If you are curious about this author or series I think this story is a good jumping off point to see if you will enjoy her style of writing. I recieved a free copy of this story from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily. (Sorry I could not give specifics in my review. It has been a few months since I read it and the last few months have been long and difficult. I do remember enjoying the book though and wanting to read more.)
Sir Edgar Allen Kipling is, of course, the star of the show, giving us a running tale of his exploits, just after the end of the previous book.
In this story, he is approached by Lily's Great Uncle, Anton Silvester, the well-known Art connoisseur, and much lesser known dabbler in stolen magical artifacts
As Sir Kip was presently at a loose end, he decided to help out in a task that Anton asked his help for, only to find that Anton had also hired someone else to partner with him.
This was Tina, and her Poltergeist, Percy, someone that Sir Kip knew and barely tolerated, but discovered that they needed his attention or, in Tina's words, his interference! Lol
Their meeting starts a whole concatenation of things, involving a stolen piece of ancient art, a gaggle of security guards and Wizards, and a huge amount of Cat Magic - what we call their wiles - as far as Sir Kip is concerned.
This opened up Percy's story, and brought shock to those who heard it, but I loved that Sir Kip was willing to promise Percy his help, and I was amazed to find connections that I hadn't expected at all.
I've just lost my own darling Floofball of almost 17 years, and found reading about Sir Kip so poignant, but also uplifting, as I can imagine my girl getting into the same kind of mischief as Sir Kip always does.

Once again, I've read most of the night away, so I'll be reading Book Seven: 'Kindred', next - well, when I wake up again, anyway!
Once I've finished that, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought of it!
Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Cat Mischief was a good bit of fun. It is another novella from Sir Kipling's point of view, so that means we get treated to Mr. High and Mighty pussy cat's musings on cat superiority and human failings. The problem is... he isn't entirely wrong. This is another cat magic adventure where he takes on a job from our favorite in universe morally grey uncle, Anton Silvester. But the author also uses this short bit of fun to shine a revelation on something that has been hinted at for most of the series. So, I would definitely read this novella for that tie-in alone. It's a quick read and has high marks from me for amusing cat commentary, heist shenanigans, and action as only a cat can serve.
I think this book has become one of my favorite favorites, lol. I absolutely love seeing Sir Kipling go off on his own adventures. His interactions, the insight into his worldview, and the total cat snark package just keep me laughing. It really makes his character stronger for the whole series, as well, since he's operating on his own. I love how Anton recognized and acknowledged his uniqueness, even if he didn't see the entire awesomeness that is Sir Kipling, cat extraordinaire until he was plucking car hair off his suit. I'm looking forward to many more adventures with him. It's a great addition to the whole Lily Singer series.
Another fun addition to the Love Lies and Hocus Pocus series staring our favorite magical talking cat - Sir Kipling. If you are a fan of the series, you will enjoy this. If you haven’t read the series, you could start here. It’s not the beginning but it can stand alone well enough. There are references to people and situations that will have more meaning to existing fans of the series, but won’t leave a new reader confused.
This series has it all: magic, love, secrets, heists, libraries, poltergeists, delusional megalomaniacs, charm, demons, humor, chases, quirky characters, even quirkier relatives and a brilliant and snarky magical cat. This short adventure benefits by focusing on Mr. Snarkipaws. I only wish it was longer!
An excellent sequel to the first book. The writing is as good as expected. This definitely helps with the withdrawal the fans of Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus have been experiencing since the last book. Spoilers!!! I fully expect the story to continue in Sebastians upcoming book.
Each of these books and shorts are simply amazingly good. Love the whole premise and how Ms Sherrer got started. Really enjoyed her book with John Ringo Into the Real and am waiting for the sequel to that one. Meanwhile, I have another Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus ready to go.
I'm a big fan of the LLHP series, and I just love that this story is all Kip! Especially with his brand of serious cat-snark, naturally.
This was an enjoyable and quick read, all from the magical cat's perspective. Can easily be a stand-alone read, but will enhance / be enhanced by having read some of the LLHP series from the humans' perspectives, too. Recommend!
Miss Sherrer has done it again! This was an absolute delight to read. I love reading about Kip and his adventures, he has such a snarky and fun narrative, and finds himself in all sorts of mischief. I'm eagerly waiting to see if there's another one in the works, since that massive cliffhanger in the end left me desperate to know more...
This is a cute book about a cat with magical abilities who essentially goes on a heist. I'm a huge cat lover, but I'm not sure I could handle too much Sir Kipling; a little bit of the pompous cat archetype can go a long way. However, the author did successfully make me curious as to who the poltergeist is who also participated in Sir Kip's covert actions. A quick read.
Another great short story collection with the adventures of Sir Kipling and friends. Really enjoyed this one and hope there is more. This is such a great Segway into the story without really being in the story. Highly recommend the series.
I could use many more stories from Sir Kipling’s point of view. This one was lovely story of his Magnificent Floofiness. The cat’s eye view of the humans he interacted with was funny and heartwarming.
Lydia Sherrer truly understands cats and brings their mischief to life in an entertaining manner. Most of the cats I have owned could easily pass for Sir Kipling.
Loved the story .Hated the cliffhanger ending. I'm getting extremely diligent about downgrading my reviews of books with cliffhangers, even when it's a series I love.
Sir Edgar Allen Kipling, front and center and wielding his cat magic to carry out a wee heist. Fun aside to the main story, but anything that features Kip is fine with me.
I have read all of the Lily Singer books and love them. This one is cute and a fun, easy read. If you love cats ,and especially Sir Kipling, it's a must read.
