Yuuya has always been a loser, and after the death of his grandpa (the only person he had in his corner), he’s sure there’s no point even trying anymore. But when Yuuya moves into his late gramps’s home, he inherits...a two-way door to another world?! Access to this new realm might be just the cheat Yuuya needs to succeed in his everyday life!
The backstory of the main character, Yuuya, is really over the top, but from what I've read on Reddit, it's not totally unbelievable. What I appreciate is that the main character did not somehow turn out to be a complete asshole despite how literally horrible his origin story is.
Outside of that, I really enjoyed seeing Yuuya not be bullied anymore. I think his personality is really sweet. I look forward to reading this as a feel good thing, though I am conflicted about him not looking like he used to. I kind of would have preferred he look the same on Earth versus what he looks like in the fantasy world.
A lot of these "other world" stories are glorified power fantasies, but I feel like this one is different because, yes, it's ALSO a ridiculous power fantasy, BUT Yuuya is nevertheless suffering from trauma from his past abuse and has imposter syndrome about his newfound awesomeness (which is beyond ridiculous, but the fact he's very grounded about it is charming).
I liken the power fantasy trope to a "New Game+" mode in certain video games, where the player has earned the ability to retain most or all of their items and abilities from a previous playthrough. Yuuya has simply inherited someone else's New Game+ as a consolation prize to end all consolation prizes for the bullying he has endured from almost everyone in his life. Sometimes I like the ease at which Yuuya is "righting wrongs" that doesn't come so easily (or at all) in real life, that it's almost a revenge fantasy as well.
Recommended if you, too, like to sometimes see the bad guys handily lose with no trouble at all! Especially the jerks who show up late to a thing and keep everyone else from being able to do their jobs... >:(
Absolute wish fulfillment power fantasy, and that's it. Yuuya starts the story as the most pathetic, the most trod upon, and the most pure. Literally every single person he meets aside from his late grandfather is the absolute worst, including his siblings and parents. And then he gets his portal to another world, and is handed the best weapons, the best armor, the best everything, plus an instantly upgraded face and body to make him absolutely perfect in every way. It's just not interesting to read, because it's so predictable.
Got this book cause ive been liking the anime so far (two episodes out rn), but the manga is paced very differently (read: poorly) in my opinion. The MCs magic is rushed to make him as competent as quick as possible, so it ends up making him seem like any other arrogant/overpowered prick. There is less focus on character and more focus on the power-trip fantasy as a result. Afterwards, random things just sort of happen around and to him and blah blah ive already lost interest. Ill be sticking to the anime and hopefully this doesnt happen there too.
Usually in stories, like this, the main character ends up, going to another world and living there as a result of one condition or another. This is the first time that we’ve seen someone able to travel to another world and come right back (to my knowledge). This was a very enjoyable story, and I look forward to seeing where this goes next!
I was pretty sure I'd like this series. it's the type I seem to enjoy the most. However, I didn't think I'd love it from the first few pages! It was so good. It got you to sympathising with the MC, which makes me take to him quicker when they end up or are right away OP. I'm intrueged to see how this continues to develop. Oh, and the art is amazing!
I love the story and the artwork of this manga. Also, the character is an entertaining dense character because of his history or background he actually has legitimate reasons to be so dense or socially impaired.
I liked this manga, pretty interesting. I am looking forward to seeing how his family reacts when they see him. I hope book 2 will start making him grow more into his new environment. The second books take so long to come out.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It dramatises bullying, like many mangas touching the subject do, but the characters are very loveable and I love the idea of travelling between worlds at will.
Watched the anime made think to check out the manga, liking both so far looking forward to the next episodes and volumes, I started to see some differences in the manga from the anime adaptation but is cool hope is a long series
I picked this up as a recommendation from Amazon. Whilst the book does heavily lean on the MC being a lower person before it is a nice read with a ‘awh’ feeling.
Going from a fat loser to a hero thanks to his late Grandfather who left him the house that had a door to another world led to amazing changes in Yuuya's life in this first book of the series.
1.5 ⭐ Not worth the time honestly at least from my pov. I genuinely was hoping for a slow build-up towards power. This was not the case. Most of the people in this story are terrible and one-dimensional. The pacing was also iffy. After getting halfway, I dropped this after finding out there was a harem. Not a fan of this trope because it's badly executed most of the time.
I wouldn't recommend this at all, especially when there are better-executed versions of this manga with all the same tropes.
But I loved it so much!!! Yuuya is a pure cinnamon roll, both before and after finding the secret room in the house his grandpa left him that contained a door to another world where he instantly gained ownership of a lot of really cool things and gained new videogame style powers that made him strong, cool, skilled, and sexy.
I think it's a combination of 1) How bad Yuuya's life was before 2) His pure childlike joy at finding all this cool stuff 3) His complete obliviousness to his new look 4) How super sweet he is. His new abilities don't change who he is, I guess.
So far, this series has a handful of tropes that I adore and has some gorgeous art to go with it. Definitely a series I'm interested in buying, even if the genre is considered cliché dreck. (Might even try out the light novel cause I've enjoyed this so much)
