A book about a whole selection of hand tools used for a variety of different crafts from woodworking to paper-crafting, leather work to gardening, car mechanics to sign writing, etc. Each tool has a description and an explanation of its history, and sometimes an anecdote about the author's experience with it. Each tool also has a beautiful illustration which includes all the dings and scratches on it. As Scott says in another review, they could have been photos, but maybe photos would have been more clinical, and wouldn't convey the love and respect the author clearly has for these mostly old tools.
The author is Dominic Chinea, best known for his work on the BBC program 'The Repair Shop', where he shows his own remarkable skills, along with experts in other fields.

I find old stuff fascinating. I also enjoy Dom on the repair shop. His passion and interest comes through well. Some very interesting details in here, if you like this sort of thing. Only criticism would be, why no actual photographs of tools that Dom himself owns? He speaks of finding, collecting and owning many vintage tools, so let’s see them in use.

Very basic
Just tools of all sorts and learning that each situation has its own tool that can be had to fix the problem at hand. For the most part, everyone knows that tools are used in different ways thus a hammer for this is used in many situations. I don't think that you would have many different hammers, unless of course you are breaking concrete: A sledge hammer is different in that case.
But yes, I see the direction of this book and it's nice to know a little something about different tools, but the matter of fact in this ready is that you won't have all these tools or even remember what is used for what unless you have direct experience from habit.
The book is well put together and I appreciate the effort placed, but at the end of the day it's very basic and I don't see much need for this product anymore. You can literally get all this information online in a quick article and skip all the information about the tools that have no relevance to what you are working on.

Pleasant enough as either a reference book or a light cover to cover read—a little pedestrian overall but with beautiful illustrations and tons of cute tidbits of varying interest. A fun tool spotting exercise (“oh yeah I’ve seen those around, never looked up what they were for!”), could have used one more copyediting pass. I’m weirdly obsessed with knowing for every tool whether it works on the push stroke or the pull stroke haha

Not really meant to be read from cover to cover but I did it anyway. You're not going to learn anything reading this, obviously, it's exactly what you think it is - tools porn, except it's high quality erotica, not some cheap smut.

Very interesting and informational book! It had a couple of bizarre issues with things like punctuation and whole words missing from sentences, but other than that I enjoyed it. INCREDIBLE illustrations!
