Two men, dozens of cities, and a connection they just can't seem to shake.
We haven't spoken in fifteen years, and Marlon is the last person I expected to run into in a bar on Bourbon Street.
He's not my gangly internet pen pal anymore, he's all muscles, body hair, and temptation.
Our friendship feels like it never faded, but the heat between us is brand new.
We're both in different cities every few weeks, hustling to build our careers and soaking up all the perks of being young, hot, and untethered. But our paths seem to be crossing more and more often.
“Meet Me There…”, they're my new favorite words. Honestly, I think I'd follow Marlon anywhere. Does he feel it too?
***Meet Me There is a stand alone, super steamy, ultra-swoony best friends to lovers, long distance love, coming of age in their 30s MM romance with very low angst and lots of happy, mushy feels.
K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.
4 “I just woke up this morning, and I felt like if I didn’t see you today, I would lose my f*cking mind.” stars
“I’m so fucking in love with you,” […] I just have to have you in my life. I need you in my bed every morning and in my arms every night. I want to plan our adventures together instead of hoping we’ll find each other there.”
I’m kind of star struck over this book. The premise of this book is everything I have ever wanted out of a romance book. I have never found another romance book that was like this one, where most of the book is the main characters actively being in a long-distance relationship. And I have yearned and craved for a book like this for years. So, I really want to thank K.M. Neuhold for bringing my wildest dreams to life, this truly was the book for me.
The books that I enjoy reading the most are the ones that I can relate to in some ways, so the ones that have parts that reflect my life experiences. And for this reason, I’m going to start this review by talking about my own life experience because this book felt more personal to me than it probably will for most people. This book is about a long-distance relationship, most specifically chatting with someone online and then falling for them and trying to make it work even if you live in totally different places in the world, and them meeting each other whenever you can to spend some time together. My longest relationship in my life was with an Australia (I’m Canadian) that I chatted with online, and we were in a long-distance relationship for quite a long time, including in real life meetings. So, everything about this book just reminded me of my own life experiences, which is probably why this book is so precious to me. I have never found a book that reminded me of my own dating life like this one did and for that I’m internally grateful. This was exactly the type of relationship I can relate to, and it was very cathartic for me to read about it in a book.
So, while I really appreciated the content of this book, what really worked for me here, is how I could relate to every second of their relationship and how I kept comparing the character’s experiences with my own. That just really enhanced the reading experience for me.
Brief Summary Reed and Marlon were online best friends when they were in high school. They lost track of each other over the years, and they reconnect again 15 years later and start a long-distance relationship.
I just want to talk some more about how much I loved the long-distance relationship in this book. The meeting online and getting to know each other part, was just so relatable and absolutely wonderful to read. And everything about the time that they spent doing long distance, the longing, the pining, the want to be near each other so much but you must wait a little, no matter how much you don’t want to. The face-to-face meetings where you do everything to see each other and the want to spend every seconds together because you don’t know when you will get to see each other again. The stilled goodbyes that feel like they will rip your heart apart more and more every time you do it. The want to say fuck it all but not being able to because in the end, you love that person, even if the distance hurts. Just everything about how this was portrayed in this book worked for me. Reading this book just brought me back to my own feelings when I was in a long-distance relationship myself and reading about it just really worked for me. This book portrayed this life experience in a way that was so realistic to me, and I loved every second of it.
Also, my favourite thing in the world is reading about online interactions in books. And this book had so many texting interactions it just made my heart melt. That was just the cutest thing in the world to me.
I really loved how much you could see the remains of Reed and Marlon’s friendship when there were teens in their current relationship. I loved how they truly seemed to know each other and everything about the other from the moment they first met again. I just love these types of friendly relationships in books, and it really worked for me in this case too. It was just so lovely to me how they knew everything about each other and how the other works because they had been friends before, it showed that they took the time to listen to each other and to get to know each other well and I love reading about that.
Also, Marlon and Reed just had the best banter. You could tell that they knew everything about each other because of their banter. It was just so fun to read about. I always love a good banter and this one was just so much fun to read about.
I really loved the relationship progression in this one. I loved how they just continued where they left it off and remained friends, with the added benefits of having sex sometimes and then the more the time passed, the more they realized that they just want to be together no matter what. It was super fun for me to read about and I really enjoyed it. It made the book super lively and engaging because I just wanted to see what their next step would be.
Also, the sex scenes in this book were marvelous. They were super hot and plenty, which is how I enjoy my sex scenes in books, so I was very pleased with them.
My only issue with this book was that it’s towering a little too much on the edge of none monogamy for me and I just prefer reading about monogamous couples. It took a long time for the couple in this book to decide that they want to be monogamous and while this book got there, it just took a little too long for my own personal preference. But regardless of that, this book still impacted me like a ton of bricks, so it isn’t the worst thing in the world because it didn’t impact my feelings about the book much, but I do wish that it made clearer from an earlier point in their relationship.
Overall, this book was just such a wonderful reading experience for me. I don’t think I have ever read a book in which I could identify to the romance as much as I could with this book. This book was exactly what I have been waiting to read for years in a romance book. I have wanted a book like this for so long and I’m so glad that I finally got to read one. This book was just a super wonderful reading experience for me and I really enjoyed the ride.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
I was excited to read this book but found it a bit boring and uneven, with plot inconsistencies and interchangeable narrative voices.
Several times when one MC is talking, he refers to himself in the third person as if the author got the characters' names mixed up.
At one point, in his haste to jump Reed, Marlon leaves his suitcase in his car. They never leave the hotel room, but Marlon's clothes magically appear a few pages later.
Marlon and Reed are far more than friends from the moment they reconnect, yet it takes them two years to pull their heads out of their asses and discuss feelings.
The story jumps from one scene to the next set a few months later, with little continuity.
It wasn't all bad, of course. Their text conversations are all kinds of cute, and there is no shortage of heat and chemistry. The epilogue is also pitch perfect.
But the book feels thrown together and isn't Neuhold's best work.
I am so surprised how much I loved this book - usually friends to lovers is one of my least favorite tropes but it is very well done in this book. I love the premise of meeting as online pen pals and then later reuniting in person. Definitely an enjoyable read.
i usually love neuhold’s books so this was an enormous disappointment. it was super slow and very monotonous. the same three things over and over again. it honestly breaks my heart to rate this one star, because i usually love her books, but if this were a first time author for me, i would absolutely rate this one star and i have to be consistent.
SPOILERS BELOW
a whole year passes before 60%. i hate this kind of writing. at 72% they still aren’t together. they mainly text and they don’t see each other for months, then they spend a couple of days together and then they don’t see each other again for months. so entertaining.
what bugged me the most was the threesome with marlon’s ex fuck buddy and the MCs. WHY. at 73% i’m completely invested in the MCs’ story. i want to see them together. i don’t want them to fuck others. then they realize they love each other but of course they don’t tell the other because that would have spared me some time and we can’t have that.
another ridiculous thing: at 90% they haven’t see each other in SIX MONTHS because they simply didn’t talk about living together, or at least in the same city. (at this point reed is a full time writer so he could go wherever he wants). they don’t even make plans to see each other.
then they wake up one day and meet and they’re finally boyfriends!!! the book is basically done but at this point i’m just glad about that. about a week later (a couple of pages for us) they get engaged, because of course they take 2 whole years to get it together and then magically everything’s super fast.
The story idea for this best-friends-to-lovers was pretty cool and one I haven’t read before. (We are not talking about how the basic plot is pretty similar to "Heated Rivalry", tho as this def wasn't a friends to lovers. *haha)
So, more than fifteen years ago two closeted teenagers form an online-friendship that they hold on to for four years until college, boyfriends and life just catches up on them and they lose contact.
When Reed and Marlon meet for the first time totally by chance in a gay bar in New Orleans there is insta attraction and they hook up. But they live in different states and travel a lot for their jobs. So whenever the opportunity strikes they meet up somewhere.
"Meet me there."
The thing they have going on is totally casual. They are best friends once again, text and video call everyday, share their plans and dreams with each other and have each other’s back always. But they only meet a few times a year. Until it starts to grow heavy on them.
As the blurb promises it is a very steamy, swoony and fun read I can totally recommend if you’re in search for a sweet and lighthearted love story.
Love Nick J Russo’s narration, but I think the time it took Reed and Marlon to be a couple was too long in my opinion. But I still enjoyed the writing. I couldn’t put it down haha.
[3.5] sure i’m behind on ARCs, but i can never say no to a dose of fluff 😌
it’s not perfect—my two biggest niggles: (1) (have to mention because i know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea either), and (2) the hesitancy to define what’s going on between them being drawn out till the very last drop—but in all honesty, i found everything else positively, cloyingly sweet and adorable, even if veering into fairytale territory in terms of execution at times. the time jumps were also endearing to me, suited their long distance connection well ✨
First 70% - perfect long distance romance with sporadic meet ups, late night and middle of the day messages, building connection and feel good vibe that made me smile. Plus, it was seriously hot 🔥 I would place the last couple of chapters just after it and it would be a 5 stars read. Instead, it unnecessary dragged and combined with similarly unnecessary, IMO, made me lower the rating
4.15- I had a lot of fun reading this, both MC’s were funny and I loved how they got to achieve their dreams together. Beautiful friendship. Very enjoyable read, 100% recommend.
This was a mixed bag TBH. 2.5 rounded up. The good The text conversations, so cute! The way the 2 MCs support each other 100% from the get go. They really help each other grow and find a new path in a very nice and convincing way. Their bond really comes through, as well as their chemistry.
The less good/bad The MCs are difficult to differentiate. I had to look for a name to remember in whose head we were. They don't have a distinctive voice. Sometimes they seem to be mixed up by the author. The MCs are, again for this author, somewhat isolated. We know basically nothing of their families. When they first meet online as teens (the prologue) they are afraid to tell their parents they are gay. What happened with that? They mention their parents in passing but it didn't feel like enough How long it takes them to acknowledge their feelings that we can clearly see. Around page 170 out of 290 I thought "this should be where they exchange ILYs and find a path to be together" but no. The main problem with that is that there is not a valid reason they don't live in the same city. They both have jobs that require them to travel a lot but don't seem to dictate a specific home base. They both could move at any time. They each have one friend (barely) but that's not reason enough not to move. Plus, they don't live near their family. The solutions for their respective careers is too easy but I could forgive that. Finally .
Of course, I read book #2 in the duo first...purely by accident though...but it really didn't make a great deal of difference in the end.
Marlon and Reed were childhood long-distance friends that communicated online every night from the time they were teens. Eventually real life got in their way...but they never forgot each other and that they were all that each other had in the way of friends or much of anything else at that time. The way Marlon and Reed reunite accidently in New Orleans as adults is pure fate at its very purest. Both men are mature enough to understand that the physical connection and chemistry they feel is because of their past unique friendship.
As they separated the first time, I had no idea where this book was going or what, or even if there was going to be a "happy ever after" or what it would look like, but I was definitely invested in hanging in there to see it. I enjoyed the many, many times that their communication was only by text or telephone...but I couldn't imagine how they could tolerate such long periods apart, sometimes as much as 6-months going by without seeing one another in the flesh...and this went on for years...but I guess that is what proved the strength of their friendship, which in turn made the physical reunions all the much better.
The inevitable emotions both men have for each other, despite all the opinions of those around them, are not a surprise, but the way they handled them was. It resulted is a strange kind of limbo in which Marlon and Reed are completely dedicated to one another but are both afraid to upend the delicate balance. It was always on each of their minds if could they be MORE than just best friends. The second half of their story is surprisingly emotional. I really liked that there was a very low amount of angst in the story despite all that was going on in each of their lives.
Anyone who doesn't mind that the lovers happen to be two guys and enjoys the "friends-to-lovers" theme...especially when the path getting there doesn’t come with the usual stereotypical map.... will really like following the long journey with Reed and Marlon. We witness throughout the many years, the separate character development each man undergoes based on the support from the other... his very best friend. Multiple journeys of all sorts are undertaken in this book, and you won’t regret "meeting them there".
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] Meet Me There by K.M. Neuhold is a fun friends to lovers , long distance romance.
He's my home. Wherever we go, wherever this life takes us, my home is right here.
This book is insanely hot and steamy right from the start. The sexual chemistry between them is on fire. While the sex is superb, I loved the friendship between them just as much. They spend months apart between their meet ups, but during that time they grow extremely close. They have a long distance friendship that's filled with endless text messages and frequent video calls. I loved how supportive they were of each other reaching for their dreams. It was obvious very early on that it was more than just hooking up when they were together, but they were both oblivious sweethearts. Then when they realize it, they are both afraid to lose the most important person in their life. It takes them pretty much the entire book to take the final step, but at least the journey was entertaining. Only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I could have done without the threesome that made them realize they wanted to be intimately exclusive.
Pleasure rocks through me at his strangled words. Nothing has ever felt like this. No one has ever made Marlon feel this good. No one has taken him apart like this.
Overall, Meet Me There by K.M. Neuhold is a fantastic best friends to lovers romance with constant texting, concerts, gym sessions, camping, photography, exhibitionist fantasy fulfillment, sex toys, extreme steam and an unbreakable friendship
Gah I absolutely loved this book! I didn't want it to end. My heart was in my throat a couple of times and I just needed them to be okay! This was swoon-worthy perfection!
Cute, low-angst and steamy, K.M. Neuhold can do no wrong in my eyes. Every book of hers I’ve read has been enjoyable, and Meet Me There is no different.
The relationship is a bit insta-lust, but I loved the not too fast crescendo from friendship to a relationship. The spice was excellent and diverse, for lack of a better term. Sometimes smut scenes tend to get a little repetitive and boring, but Marlon and Reed had great chemistry and it definitely showed on page.
Love that she put a little Heathens Ink cameo in there, such a cute surprise.
Tropes and NSFW info (spoilers): - Childhood pen pals - Vers MCs - Fleshjack - Threesome - Public sex - Frotting - Flip-fucking
K.M. Neuhold may not have the corner on the market for sweet, low-angst, high-heat, feel-good reads, but she's certainly carved out her niche. She's written some heavier stuff (Change of Heart, the Replay Series), but mostly she's known for her funny, sexy reads that leave a smile on your face and Meet Me there is quintessential Neuhold: sex-positive, body-positive, kink-positive, and probably half a dozen or more other kinds of positives.
In fact, it's a real Goldilocks kind of book. Just the right amount of everything - sex, romance, emotion and plot.
I adored the characters from the start of this standalone best-friends-to-lovers story, and while I may have wanted to grab them and shake them a few times the book is paced just right so I never quite got frustrated with them. I just kept going along for the ride.
Very cute long distance second chance best friends to lovers romance. Damn that's a mouthfull. But honestly, it's the truth. I loved how we got to glimpse Reed and Marlon's online friendship as teens. They were each other's lifeline in a world that made them feel pretty alone. Meeting 15 years later by chance in a bar was the ultimate sort of meet cute. I mean, what are the odds these two men would end up in the same bar in the same city, never mind recognize one another after all this time? Then again, I guess you don't ever forget the best friend you've ever had even if you haven't spoken in awhile.
Reed and Marlon fell into their friendship again like no time had passed. Not terribly soon after, they fall into bed. Their chemistry is sizzling and their friendship is easy. There's just one problem. They both travel extensively for work. Roots aren't exactly something either of them have put down. However, since meeting again they don't plan on letting their friendship lax. There's video calls and late night phone chats. Sometimes the stars align and they get to be in the same city at the same time, not to mention the same bed. It's a whirlwind of long distance oblivious pining until the light finally flips on in their heads.
The ending was just as swoony and sweet as the rest. Neuhold's books always have such a light hearted feel. They put you in a happy mood and you finish with a smile on your face. Meet Me There definitely fell into this category and I thoroughly enjoyed all the fluffy steamy goodness it provided.
This was a lovely, sweet love story between two young men who were online friends as teens and finally met in person (accidentally) when they were older. Their chemistry was off the charts and their compatibility even more so. One was a professional model -- for gay romance book covers -- and the other a writer. Both traveled extensively for their jobs.
Over the course of this story they met here and there when their travels overlapped. There were many (many!) sex scenes throughout their in-person or video chat sessions. So those of you who read for the sex scenes will love this one. I did enjoy this story as the men encouraged each other and became stronger best friends than ever. But I became frustrated with the cluelessness, the fear that one or the other would turn down any romantic overtures, and their fear of losing their friendship. These weren't kids. They were mature men who, at times, behaved as if they were still in high school. So, though I understand and see why many rated this higher, I can honestly say I liked it but there was nothing of note to make this more than 3 stars.
This was perfect low-angst, funny and fun, sexy BFF to Lovers story.
You’ll love both these men, Reed and Marlon. They started as online friends when they were 15 years old and needing a friend as they figure out their sexuality in towns that are less than welcoming. They drift apart in college, but a chance encounter at a bar in New Orleans years later reunites them like no time has passed.
Except this time it’s in person and they can’t deny they are also attracted to each other. They both travel extensively so as they keep their friendship alive, they also meet up when their scheduled allows.
What proceeds is a totally engaging, sexy, caring story that you won’t want to put down, as two men who thought they were meant for forever but discover that when you fall for your best friend forever seems like a pretty great idea.
"I'm tired of saying goodbye to him, and I'm tired of the time in between."
Also, I need to read Reed’s books, so if KM can also write those, I would appreciate it.
This one isn't working for me. I usually don't have a problem differentiating between characters in dual-POV first person stories, but I constantly got confused with this book. I think it's because the MCs have similar lifestyles and were written exactly the same way, which led to me mixing up whose POV we were in.
In addition, the plot is moving very slowly and it's boring. Nothing exciting is happening and the two MCs are doing typical date-stuff after having reconnected but they've already had sex and are acting like they're in love, so there's no tension. I also didn't feel any chemistry between the characters and I think it's due to the story structure. We get one short prologue that shows the MCs interacting when they were teenagers, then we go to the present where they reunite and fall into bed together (despite sex never having been part of their initial friendship). It was too rushed and I wish the author had spent more time showing us their first friendship and demonstrating that they'd missed their friendship before doing the reunion thing.
Since I was really bored, I was debating whether to stop reading anyway but I skimmed through reviews and discovered the story has an MMM scene at 75%, which isn't my thing (especially that late in an MM romance). Unfortunately, that sealed the deal for me and I'm not going to keep reading.
I loved this so much more than I expected! I went in not knowing much about the story and wasn't quite sure why I picked it up, but I'm glad I did. I've had several K.M. Neuhold books on my TBR for a while but hadn't read any before this one. I guess the mood finally struck! I couldn't be happier that it did because I fell completely in love with Marlon and Reed. 🥰
I wouldn't say friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, but when it's done well, I am here for it. Meet Me There is friends-to-lovers done well, and I was most certainly here for it. The story was full of sweetness and spice and everything nice. ✨ Marlon and Reed are both such sweethearts that you can't help but fall for them. The two were online besties when they were younger but fell out of touch as they got older. After a chance meeting at a bar in New Orleans, the two reunite and sparks fly. A quick hookup is inevitable, but their newly rekindled friendship and an undeniable attraction keep bringing them back together. The story spans several years and skips through Marlon and Reed's relationship as time passes, and they discover themselves and each other. From unexpected presents to matching tattoos, there were so many sweet moments that left me grinning from ear to ear. I can definitely see myself re-reading this one. It made my heart happy in all the right ways. 💙
Simply put, I adored this book. It was fun, lighthearted and so, so sexy. Neuhold just gets it with this one.
Watching the evolution of Marlon and Reed’s friendship was so wonderful. They clicked in so many ways. Their chemistry was off the charts and their love was beautiful. I loved their text conversations. They were so fun and at times, brutally honest. I really liked how this whole book takes place over what amounts to two years. And I really feel like we get an honest view of who these men are. They encourage one another, prop one another up and fall for one another fully.
This was a book that just left a smile on my face. It was exactly what it should have been and I couldn’t be happier with the ending we got. And those cameos? Ugh. So unexpectedly wonderful. Makes me want to read the Heathen’s Ink books all over again. Light on the angst, heavy on the sexy and an overall feel good story. Meet Me There hit the spot.
Meet Me There is a fantastic story featuring Marlon a gorgeous model and Reed and author. They meet on the internet as gangly fifteen-year-old gay boys. They loose touch a few years later. Fifteen years later they meet in a bar and begin a new relationship with benefits. They catch up every couple of months, traveling wherever work takes them. Meet Me There is sweet, hot and steamy with plenty of spice. Plus, a couple of cameos from out favorites from Heathen Ink series. I loved they way their story played out over a couple of years. It was a fun, lighthearted, low angst, second chance at nest friends to lovers romance. Overall, a fantastic feel-good story that is well written with that kind of pacing that doesn’t let go. Highly recommend!
Cute best-friends-to-lovers romance. Likable characters (even though I kept getting them mixed up). 'Meet Me there' was a sweet dual POV romance with a lovely HEA. Great for a quick weekend read.
This book moves excruciatingly slowly for about 95%, and then the ending wraps everything up in just a few pages. Not bad, but definitely not my favorite from this author.
