As an outsider in my own pack, I’m used to rejection.
My first love. My so-called friends. Hell, even my own father abandoned me. But when my alpha is murdered and I’m exiled from pack lands, I have no choice but to track down the wolf responsible and clear my name.
I know exactly who I’m hunting. Levi Wild. My greatest enemy—and my one true mate.
Damned by the pack years ago, Levi is as untamed as they come. The pack rebel. The bad boy. The mouthwateringly hot shifter who made us all howl. And now he’s a cold-blooded murderer.
Hunting Levi will end with one of us dead. That is, unless someone has a change of heart. Unfortunately for both of us, love never saved anyone.
If you enjoy books by Jaymin Eve, Jen L. Grey, and Kelly St. Clare, then you’ll love this slow burn angsty shifter romance.
Heather Hildenbrand lives in coastal Virginia where she writes paranormal and fantasy romance with strong-willed heroines and dark, grumpy heroes who’ll burn the world down for their mate. Her most frequent hobbies are cuddling with her giant goldendoodles, riding country roads on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, and avoiding killer slugs.

Well, I do not know exactly how I feel about this read. I am torn between letting it go and picking up book 2. Who knows!
Mac and Levi are so irritating. They dance around their issues the entire book. Nothing is resolved. There are some betrayals that make the story interesting. Some secondary characters I find entertaining. However, as a whole, the romantic aspect causes me to find this meh.
This is an interesting storyline that took me some time to get into. When I did I enjoyed it because the deception Mac faces stuns her, and it's not from who she thinks. Everything about Black Moon pack is toxic and change definitely needs to happen. It will be interesting to see how that comes about
I love Hildenbrand’s writing, but this book (which I was really looking forward to) was kind of a disappointment. For a little over half of the book I didn’t like any of the characters, except the MC and she wasn’t my favorite MC of Hildenbrand’s.
After a little more than halfway through and I started liking certain characters a little more, but I didn’t feel a connection to any of them. By the end I like a couple of them better. The plot was interesting, but not from the beginning. It seems like everything was backwards, I like everything better at the end than I did from the beginning. I suspected at the end, early on too. It just doesn’t grab you and pull you in from the start.
I think if we weren’t thrown into pack issues that we didn’t understand, and a mating bond rejection between two people we didn’t really know, it would have sucked me in better and quicker.
Because I liked things better by the end of the book, I will definitely read the next book and hopefully like it much better. I’m not saying I hated this book, but it wasn’t up to the author’s usual writing (which I love).
To Hunt a Wolf is a fast paced story that immediately throws the reader into the thick of things when it comes to the black moon pack.
I really enjoyed Mac’s character. She’s fierce, independent, and loyal…to a fault. Even after being rejected by her mate, she will do whatever it takes to fight for those she loves even when it costs her everything.
There were lots of twists and turns in this book that I definitely didn’t see coming. Mac also uncovers quite a few secrets and faces some stinging betrayal.
And while book one does end on a juicy cliffhanger, book two is out now so you don’t have to wait!
This was just an okay read. We are dropped in the story several years after the rejection happened. We don't really get any explanation or backstory for it and are fed bits and pieces of the pack dynamic and relationships, which feel like tiny little appetizers when we are looking for a substantial, main course. I don't really feel invested in the relationship or the adventure, and I'm not sure I will bother to read the second book. I also wasn't a fan of how quickly we went from rejected to omg he's the love of my life. I don't believe there was any honesty in how quickly that conversion happened - years of hurt, anger, rage and resentment don't magically disappear in a few minutes or even a couole of days.
So, ok story needs some polishing. Reject mate who has years of resentment and was trained with lots of skills to be a bounty hunter so she was a badass. Story started off ok, but quickly lost my interest as the super quick I hate you to you to are the love of my life and I would die for you, totally forgot about her devastating humiliation at being rejected. Also the weird classification of Romantics. As well as the pack who all reject their mates…Think there was some elements of the whodunnit for who drugged the FMC’s food, think all those siblings are in on the taking over of the pack drama. This book ends on cliffhanger. Not sure I will read next, will put on my tbr series list to read if I run out of other books to read.
The FMC is ridiculous. Her fated rejects her, disappears for 3 years, she is abandoned by everyone and treated terribly by the pack. Eventually she finds her fated mate and he's still cruel. Never explains anything, roughed her up, kidnaps and imprisoned her and then says he did everything for her. Also have her best friend and mom working with him over the past 3 years. Total betrayal and she's all like, ok with it. No. I'm done.
I'm a little torn on this book. It has some very interesting concepts. Like a wolf society that believes rejecting your make makes you stronger. It's really just a dystopian type of conditioning. The alpha and his family are straight up psychos who are at war amongst themselves for who will rule and the whole pack are pawns in the game. There is a little West Side Story going on with the Romantics being shunned for not rejecting their mates.
There were times I was frustrated with all of the characters for various reasons. After 3 years of dating and being the youngest pair of mates ever Levi out of the blue and very publicly rejects Mac. She lives in the wake of this mess while he disappears. Until the alpha is murdered and Levi leaves her to take the fall. I both like Levi and want to royally smack his face. He has legitimate reasons for rejecting and leaving her but when the opportunity presents itself he makes things soooooo much worse. This whole book is full of betrayal from everyone Mac knows. She spends a lot of time complaining about that but dang if I don't agree with her. I think she was very one track minded and went about things in a reckless unplanned manner. She was trained to be the best bounty hunter around but I didn't feel like her skills matched up with her reputation. I was VERY happy when she didn't just give in to the mating bond just because he kissed her and said sorry. I know I'm making this sound horrible but I feel strongly about these characters and I think that says something for the book. I may want to smack a few of them around but I also don't hate them. This book is VERY slow burn there is a lot of emotional baggage to work through. So don't expect reconciliation right away even though there is progress. Like I said I'm so glad the surgery didn't just slap a "mate" bandage on it and call things good. I really am looking forward to watching Mr Levi do some groveling at Mac's feet. 🤣
Ok this was so twisty I was constantly like whattt the whole way through 🤣 everyone's hiding secrets and the betrayal I didn't see coming wow I mean i still don't know who we're meant to trust everyone's shifty af hahaha I can't wait to see what happens next.
Mac thought the worst thing to happen to her was when her mate publicly rejected her and then took off leaving her to pick up the pieces. Moving on not so simple when your wolf still pines over her lost mate. Following in her mothers footsteps Mac works as a bounty hunter but she drags her latest mark to the Alpha she finds him bleeding out and the man standing over him is none other than the man who rejected her, he once again takes off leaving Mac with the consequences and all fingers are pointing at her. The alphas son gives her two options execution or bring in the killer she claims isn't her. Hunting, tracking and sometimes killing it's what she does but when her mark becomes the one person who hurt her but her heart still yearns for bringing him won't be so easy mostly because he isn't going to come willingly. When Mac becomes the marked all fingers point to the new Alpha something that confuses Mac. Levi her mate, her mum and even someone she once considered a friend all seem to be hiding secrets from her and she's getting whiplash from their actions but what she uncovers will cut her in an entirely different way one that hurts her far more than she anticipated. But Mac doesn't know who to trust anymore everyone seems to have their own agenda including Mac. Will she let her guard down only to notice the knife of betrayal sticking out of her back. In a world where everyone has their own backs who will have Macs?
To Hunt a Wolf is the start of an enjoyably different wolf shifter series filled with action and suspense. This book is packed with intrigue, plots and twists and turns as the main character Mackenzie, Mac, is caught as a pawn between the different sides fighting to become Alpha of the Black Moon Pack. Mac, is no shrinking violet and as a notorious and effective bounty hunter she gives as good as she gets, well to anyone except Levi Wild her fated mate that rejected her three years earlier.
To Hunt a Wolf is a paranormal romance with plenty of angst and anger due to a rejected mate bond. This anger increases tenfold after Levi flees a murder scene and leaves Mac to take the fall for the murder of the old Alpha Crigger. Mac is tasked to hunt the real killer down and her best friend, and new alpha’s sister Kari is taken hostage until her return. From this point until the final page the book is a non-stop roller coaster of action, surprises and crazy emotions that capture the reader and leave them gasping. There are so many amazing characters in this book but in particular Levi and Mac. Their relationship was this well written push-pull of emotions and I can’t help but ache for their sacrifices and barbarity of their pack. This book is set in Heather Hildenbrand’s greater world so if you have read her other series there is some easter eggs in this book and hopefully more on the way.
To Hunt a Wolf is a wonderfully written paranormal suspense filled with action, intrigue and a rejected mates romance. It was so easy to get invested and lost in the plot and the characters and I cannot wait to find out what vengeance Mac rains in the next book.
When bounty hunter MacKenzie Quinn brings in her latest target, she finds the alpha murdered and Levi Wild, the fated mate that rejected her, a popular behavior in the pack. Within seconds, Thiago, a bully greedy for the alpha role and one of three alpha heirs promptly incapacitates and arrests Mac. Despite Mac’s denials, Thiago announces her involvement and decrees she find the real killer and holds his sister, Mac’s best friend, Kari hostage until Mac does as she’s told.
Mac finds Levi within days but he refuses to come quietly. Mac’s emotions are a whirlwind, she’s dealing with the upset of Levi’s rejection three years ago, the threat of her friend being killed and having no resources to fall back on to get her out of the quagmire. Eldest alpha heir Jadick, escaped years ago when Thiago attempted to kill him and is working side by side with Levi. Torturing a suspect gives Thiago a wedge to poison Levi plan and he makes use of it.
Aargh, to my taste, this outing could’ve been so much better than it was; fewer plot holes or at least smaller ones, using a better trope than the very overused ‘it’s all because of me’ and a smarter heroine. Oh, and without the cliffhanger! No clue if I’ll go forward in the series. Rating: 2.5stars
Mac is a bounty hunter, following in the footsteps of her mother, who is apathetic at best. When she's hired to find someone for the Alpha, a man who is as cruel as he is strong, she has no choice but to take the job. Yet, when she brings her captive to meet with the Alpha, she discovers her mate - Levi Wild, the man who rejected her before the entire pack - standing over the alpha's dead body. Rather than stick around to explain what happened, he runs, and she's caught by Thiago, the dead alpha's son, who has a mean streak of his own. To clear her name, she must set out to find her ex and bring him back, no matter how much it hurts.
No one writes werewolves quite like this author, and I've been looking forward to reading about the Black Moon Pack since they were first mentioned in an earlier book. This story is filled with all of the heart-racing excitement, love, and adventure I expect to read from her, and it has me impatient to read the next one in the series.
I found this series after reading the lone wolf series as the black moon pack was mentioned. I was hooked from the first chapter! Mac is a bounty hunter following in her mother’s footsteps and is in the process of bringing a mark into the alpha when he’s killed and she sees the one man she thought she never would again. Her fated mate Levi who rejected her after promising to love her forever. The black moon pack had this idea that rejecting your fated mate makes you stronger and if you die then you just weren’t strong enough. To save her best friend and alpha heir she strikes a deal to bring in the real killer. But things aren’t really what they seem.
To Hunt A Wolf is action-packed, but book 1 only scratches the surface and I think the next two books are going to be a wild ride. The Black Moon Pack is atypical because they give civil unrest a whole new meaning (and we thought the Lone Wolf Pack had problems...).
I'm excited to learn more about Levi who promises to be a top book boyfriend. Mac is tough but she's had a lot thrown at her over the years, and maybe she hasn't always had the patience to calmly make choices as opposed to diving headfirst before looking.
I have no doubt this will turn out to be a very satisfying series.
To Hunt a Wolf is book 1 in the Black Moon Pack Series. This series should be read in order due to the continuing plot throughout the story.
This story follows Mac who is part of the Black Moon Pack . She is the packs Bounty Hunter and works directly for for the Alpha. The problem is the Alpha runs his pack with cruelty and fear. Mac feels trapped because if she leaves her best friend, Kari, (daughter to the alpha and sister to the heir) will not make it. She feels stuck. Mac has a mother who doesn't care and her mate, Levi, publicly humiliated her by rejecting her and leaving. Mac is sent on a mission. When she returns to the Alpa to collect her bounty, she finds Levi, her mate, standing over the Alphas dead body. The heir, Thiego, tells Mac to bring back his fathers killer or his sister will die by his hand. Mac can only do one thing and sets out to save her best friend Kari even though it breaks her fragile heart to have to return her mate to the pack that he chose to leave.
OOOOOOOOH this book pulled me in and held me for ransom!!!!!! The story starts out with a bang and never ceases in the action pact plot. The heartache and betrayal Mac finds as she navigates trying to bring her Mate back to the pack for judgement. I felt every bit of hurt that she felt each time she discovered that someone she trusted, has either lied, withheld or outright betrayed her. Heather has really stepped it up with this series and she has a brand new fan in me. I read this book in one sitting and need more. This book leaves on a doozy of a cliffhanger. Some questions were answered but others surfaced at the end of the book. I have a feeling the next two books in the series will be amazing as well and I look forward to digging in. This book gets 5 stars!!!!
To Hunt a Wolf did not disappoint! Mac is in a pack that is quite evil. She is carrying out a task set out by her Alpha. Instead, the task goes wrong and she now has to go on another mission, but if she fails her friend will die.
Mac is a loyal friend through and through. Even though hunting this particular wolf puts her at odds with her own self, she is determined to save her friend.
Levi is mysterious. I enjoyed trying to figure out what he was up to. I wish Mac was able to put aside her feelings faster and truly listen to what Levi was telling her.
To Hunt a Wolf has action, mystery, betrayal, twists, and more! I can’t wait to find out what Mac will do next
Talk about your cliffhangers! This poor girls been through hell & back by the end of the book. And she will have a lot a revenge to dish out in the next book. For a girl that's a bounty hunter & been trained to think on her feet though I can't believe she was so blind. Rejected by her mate & the joke of her pack she only counts her best friend as family. However, things aren't quite what they seem. People have made sacrifices for her. A lot has gone on behind the scenes that she has no clue about. A war is coming & the alpha heirs have chosen sides. And they don't care who is left standing at the end of it!
If you're into rejected mates/wolf shifter romances, this book is for you. I love Mac. She is not your typical rejected female. Her pack has some messed but beliefs and laws, so she ends up getting rejected by her true mate out of the blue. She didn't let that stop her from kicking ass and taking names. She finds out a lot of secrets have been kept from her. I felt horrible for her. She just kept finding things out that were, to me, heartbreaking. But she didn't let any of that get in the way of trying to help out the people she loved. This book did not turn out how I thought it would. 10/10 recommend, you won't be disappointed.
Mac is the main character in this book. She is strong but also quite vulnerable. This book has a lot going on. It was a little confusing at the beginning with the slow release of information but overall I really enjoyed it. Levi is a tough character. I don’t feel like I truly understand him. It reads like he has bipolar at times with the constant up and downs/kind and murderous. But I think it ended with them in a better place. It does end on a cliffhanger so be warned of that. I will read the next book.
This was one took a little bit to get into. We didn’t get the full story of what happened until near the end. But the parts that led up to that were nothing shy of a roller coaster ride. Emotions up and down. Adrenaline, pumping as you read the book. And the betrayal, oh the betrayal was something that I didn’t see coming. Heather has a way to leave you needing more. To Hunt a Wolf is no different, she leaves you needing more.
This book is so much 🔥🔥 The twists and turns have me like, 😮. The amount of insanity that the FMC goes through would be enough for anyone to just give up. But she is so much of a b@d@$$, that it just pushes her even more to get her revenge. I love how all of the characters mesh really well together. The betrayal in the cliffhanger is so effed up, but I love to hate it. Book 2 is going to be the 💣 I'm sure!
Wow! My heart is shattered. Seriously, Mac’s whole world makes my whole heart hurt. Sometimes, life isn’t fair, but I feel like it’s a whole different level for Mac. I’m not quite sure how to even voice things without spoilers so I’ll say this. Amazing werewolf series starter. Phenomenal writing - check. Intrigue and page turner- check. Mind-blown- check. Steamy- check. Still sitting here with my jaw on the floor- check. Now I must have book 2!!!
Drama, romance and betrayal are all around Kari. After the Alpha of her pack is murdered she is forced into exile until she returns with his killer. Her fated mate who rejected her and left her broken was in the warehouse and he is her only suspect. She is forced to hunt him and what happens will blow you away. Love the characters and this book was a great read.
This was one took a little bit to get into. Emotions were up and down. The adrenaline is up, the betrayal, was something that I did not expect. Heather alway to leaves you needing more. I can’t wait for the next one
I was packing myself on shifter romance novels but after talking to the author I decided to give this one a go. What a brilliant choice because this is must read shifter romance! Sassy Mac and brody Levi sizzle. But who can Mac trust?
No time line, everything is so confusing. Had it been days? Weeks? Months? No idea, just a bunch of running around tracking people, oh and dying, lots of blood and death.
This whole series was amazing. I was on edge from the start. I hadn't read anything from Heather Hildebrand before now. But she is definitely on my following list .I can't wait to see what she brings out next
Mac is a bounty hunter that is tasked woth finding the killer of her alpha. And alpha to a pack that keeps its people supressed. The killer she believes is her mate that rejected her years ago. As the story unfolds we get to see some truths with betrayal
