The connection between Penny and Cal is apparent but uncovered secrets will plague their relationship. Can their love prevail giving them the courage to withstand outside forces determined to destroy everything? Or will they let their past choices ruin their dreams?
"When Love Knocks on her Door" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
I loved this heartwarming romance between Penny and Cal. When Penny lost her husband, she was determined to keep the ranch. She placed an ad in several stores seeking men and women interested in matrimony to work on her ranch to be matched with another worker. The men worked outside on the ranch and the women worked in the house learning to cook, clean, and garden. They would come together for meals to get to know each other. Cal was part of a gang who he escaped from when the rest of the gang was captured. He saw Penny's ad and applied for the job until he could make enough money to leave and start over by living an honest life. He didn't expect to like the ranch but he did and he fell in love with Penny who had stated many times that she would never marry again. When someone tried to destroy the ranch, Cal became Penny's protector. The characters were wonderful and the story exciting. I highly recommend this book as a clean western romance with a HEA ending. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I thought this was a 4.5 rating but did t have that option. Penny had lost her husband less than a year ago and was running the ranch he left her on her own with the help of cowboys, some of which didn’t like having a woman for a boss. Cal was running from the law after a failed robbery at a rich man’s house and he wound up at Penny’s ranch looking for a job. Penny had started a match making venue to train young ladies in running a household for the men she hired to work her ranch. Cal was roomed as a young lad into the gang but had never killed anyone. Sparks flew when he met Penny and she resented his watching over her. The crooked mayor and evil judge tried to take her ranch and was using the gang Cal had left to try & scare her off. Fires and rustling ensued but Cal stood firm to help Penny. There was much excitement that happened in this story. A must read.
Penny and Cal's story was impossible to put down! A widow with a unique plan to save her ranch, and an outlaw looking for a place to hide out, both determined that romance and marriage are just not in the cards - until they meet each other. Penny is intent on finding and being her true self, and Cal decides it's time to leave his past behind. But they must overcome cattle rustling on the ranch, and Cal's outlaw days catching up to him. The extended epilogue is a must read, giving a glimpse into the future of our couple. Carol Colyer's work is always fascinating to me; she perfectly blends historical romance with western adventure. She strikes a beautiful balance between love and action that will keep you turning pages as quickly as you can devour them!
Not just Penny and Cal will find a HEA. This one was different and it was splendid piece. A widow needs a way to save her ranch and comes up with one super idea. Now of course she never expected that she would be caught in it all but you know fate has it ways. Cal has some things in his past that need to be taken care of and of course there are other troubles that will be added into the mix but it is a very good historical western with likable and realistic characters that I hope you check out.
Penny and Cal were destined to meet and come together. However there were many obstacles they would have to overcome, such as the current occupation of Cal’s. For many years he had been an integral part of a rustling and robbing ring. During a recent all gang was caught except Cal. Leaving the immediate vicinity of their capture he ran across Penny and her ranch where she was doing matchmaking. This a very interesting story of their ups and downs. A delightful read.
Loved this book - I'd give it an extra star if I could! Cal has been a member of the Golden Rope Gang for several years. When the whole gang, except Cal, get thrown in jail, Cal takes that opportunity to get a job and hide out, maybe change his future somewhat. Penny is now the owner of Paradise Ranch since her husband died and has to figure out a way to make it all work. Her latest new hire is Cal. This book is a great ride, lots happening, and just when you think you know what will happen, you don't. Really enjoyed this one!
This is a really good story. This story of woman doing what she needs to do to save her ranch after her husband passed away. She brings couples together through her ranch but doesn't plan on finding love herself or how she will deal with the rustlers bent on stealing her ranch from her. This is a really good story by a really good author, I really recommend this book
A widow alone with a huge ranch to run needing ranch hands to help out puts out an add. Cal looking for a place to lay low for awhile lies about answering the add to buy some time. For two people who never want to remarry, the sparks sure fly! Roaming around is a dangerous gang of thieving rustlers, O my!
I enjoyed this book immensely!!! Great Characters (with some flaws-like all of us) who seemed so real!!! Penny was Wonderful and Cal perfect for her! But I did worry about him; I enjoyed the intrigue but, thankfully, the mystery was solved and I could breathe again!!! This was a very wonderful book to read and I thoroughly had a good time!!! Thank you!!!
This story is exciting from the beginning unto the end! Such varied relatable characters and such an intricate storyline makes this a book I would enjoy reading more than once!!!
A good and wonderful story about a young widow and a outlaw that wants to go straight The characters are courageous and emotional and love helps happiness A happy ending and a good read
I really liked this story. Non stop drama. I was a little confused when the sheep turned up, however. I will let the readers find what I mean. Very good read.
This is a great story. Penny is trying to run her ranch without a husband. Cal has a past with many issues. Will his past catch up to him and will Penny be able to save her ranch? The story never slows down. I will be reading more of her books!
I've read several books recently with this same theme. I'm ready for someone to really dazzle me with a new idea. Having said that I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to Christian romance lovers. There is adventure, suspense, mystery, and romance that kept me reading.
I enjoyed Penny and Cal's story. They had eyes for each other from the start, but it took so long for them to admit it to one another. I am so glad that I read this book. I hope you enjoy it also. I look forward to reading more books by Carol Colyer.
This was another wonderful book by Carol Colyer. You never know what exciting adventures await when you open one of Carol's books. I recommend this book.😊
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a wonderful story that held your interest throughout the entire book. Great author. I always enjoy this authors writings.
Mixed feelings about this one. The story line is not typical, which makes it interesting. It's also not terribly believable when you get down to the details. More research on the ways of the old west might be a good thing. This is a clean romance so good there. The constant repetition and ruminating on the part of the main character got a bit tiresome. Did the author run out of things to write about so kept looping back and repeating a theme?
Carol Colyer can be counted on to bring a few twists and turn to a familiar story. A ranch that matches young ladies with cowboys to keep working hands available is a novel idea. Good combination of humor, romance and twists/turns keeps the story moving. I enjoyed this book.
