The celebrity host of TV's Missionnovation, Drew Downing is comfortable with his fame. He's become accustomed to the cheering, starstruck townfolk that usually welcome him as he renovates churches countrywide. Usually. Then he and his crew set up in tiny Middleburg, Kentucky, to rebuild the church's storm-damaged preschool. The very lovely, very no-nonsense hardware store owner Janet Bishop is suspicious of Drew's true motives. It looks like Janet Bishop's faith—in God, in herself and in love—needs some serious rebuilding. And Drew Downing is just the man for the job.

Bluegrass Courtship is book two in the Kentucky Corners series by Allie Pleiter. This is my first book by Allie it and can be read as a complete stand alone. I own the paperback of this and read it as part of my one paperback a month challenge to myself. I’m so glad I stuck to my challenge all year. I have read some of the best stories that have been sitting on my bookshelf for years. This is a Christian romance that focuses on a man who lives with a deep faith but finds himself standing at a crossroads in his life. And a woman who has lost her faith.
All Drew Downing ever wanted to do was to help people fix things. Being men of faith, he and his friend from college came up with a TV reality show, Missionnovation. They travel around in a huge green bus and fix churches that have been damaged. Never did they anticipate the popularity of their program. The difference between it and most other reality programs is that it’s not scripted in any way. The show’s team along with volunteers from each community help to make each renovation a success. Which is how they found their way to Middleburg, Kentucky. Their pre-school which is part of their town church was damaged by a large tree. Drew and his team are ready to make their pre-school better than it ever was. Only, there is one particular woman who doesn’t seem very happy to see them.
Janet Bishop owns the town hardware store. Janet has been hurt by someone in her past that she’s not been able to come back from. It destroyed her faith and trust. She has walls around herself firmly in place. As soon as Drew and his team blew into town, she suspected that they were going to do more harm than good. That they would cut corners, use low budget materials and then move on, leaving the responsibility of fixing everything properly to those left behind. The sparks fly between Janet and Drew from the start but not the good kind of sparks. They can’t find middle ground on anything. No matter what, the truth of the matter is that when the job is finished, Drew is leaving town and Janet will continue her life as usual.
Both Drew and Janet are faced with their feelings both for each other, and for what they truly want for their futures. Drew is navigating big changes for his show. And Janet is both fighting her feelings for Drew and for allowing her faith back into her life.
This book was so sweet and I couldn’t help but to love both Drew and Janet. I couldn’t see how they would be able to find a way to work everything out but was so happy with the sweet ending. I truly enjoyed the way that this author told the story and would definitely be interested in reading more of her in the future.
didn't realize til this particular book that i was in the middle of another series. thankfully, i HAD read the first one of it, unknowingly, so was not lost on who/what some of the characters were.
interesting faith struggle. easy to understand. sad, tho, how many of us react that way, and how many of us hold on to "grudges", and for SSOOO long! yes, myself included %(
This book is a sweet read and a good inspirational story.
Somehow, though, I think I've come to want more...in this case, I kept thinking that the guy who had done her wrong needed a redemption arc. I mean, I know that not all people repent, but he seemed to be a good candidate.
I also didn't see a flaw in the hero...but still, I'd like to meet him. :)
Bluegrass Courtship is the second story in Allie Pleiter's Kentucky Corners series. This book introduces us to Janet and Drew. Drew is a celebrity missionary who repairs homes and buildings while spreading the word of Jesus. Allie has a past experience that causes her to be wary of the charismatic Drew.
This is a very good story of faith, patience and perseverance. The first story in the series was a little long to develop a rhythm but the story line was great. In this boo k, I think Allie has found the rhythm of the town and it's people. I can't wait to read the next one.
I don't usually read romance novels. This may only be the second one ever. Perhaps I have a warped opinion of a romance novel based on my childhood perspective of my grandmother's books, but this book was so much more than a romance story and really about the struggle of losing one's faith and how to regain it.
This was a cute book. The show referenced 'Missionnovations' definitely put me in mind of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition', and I believe that's where the author got her inspiration. Imagining Drew as a hyper Ty Pennington-type with a strong Christian faith was fun, and my heart went out to Janet and all her struggles. I found myself really encouraging her along as she found her way back to faith. The only real issue I have is with the title. The book was set in Kentucky, so the 'Bluegrass' part was fine, but there wasn't really any 'courtship' going on until the last few chapters . . . unless the author intended for us to view the friendship between Drew and Janet that grew into love eventually as the real start of their courtship.
I enjoyed 2 of Allie's other books but not as well as this one.
Her writing is completely different in this book and gives us the thoughts from both people.

I had tears in my eyes even after reading this the 2nd time.
This is a great story. How many people start out in a Ministry "God-minded" just to let the world or fame slowly chop away at their original mission. And also how many folks are out there away from God because they have allowed the sins of others to pull them away from their own relationship from God.
It is so sad that a preachers son has lied, cheated and stolen money from his Dad's church for missions and broken a young member's heart as well. So why would anyone be surprised when a charismatic do-gooder comes to town with a great personality and rugged good looks that Janet would shy away and have nothing but distrust. After all, she gave up church and God! But this guy is different and can't understand what is happening between him and the hardware store manager. And in the middle of the dilemma, he develops feelings for her when he knows he can't stay in this town forever. Read the rest and see what happens when God takes control.
Drew is taking Missionnovation in a new direction this year. Janet Bishop run the hardware store where they will buy local supplies for the project. Sparks fly.
