Log Jam is a gripping adventure story set in the rugged foothills of Alberta. With her mother newly remarried, fourteen-year-old Lenora Rydz is having problems finding her place in her new "instant family". In a moment of anger, she sets out on a daredevil canoe trip. The canoe capsizes in white water, and Lenora has to fight for her life.

Luckily she reaches the shore and is found by a young native named Isaac Manyfeather. Isaac has been traveling through the woods for three days, denying himself food and water. He's escaped from a detention center to search out the idyllic world he knew as a child, and to recapture his true spirit. To Lenora he seems to be out of his mind...

And their meeting begins to change both their lives.

When my grade 6 teacher announced that we were going to read Log Jam, I asked him why we were reading about constipation.

An entertaining, quick enough read. Cliche characters throughout and an almost insulting depiction of indigenous culture and beliefs. Especially as described during the climax. Read it because of the title, which is the best part.
