Reading Hell's Belles was like reading four different small town stories shortened to fit in a single book. It was a few hours read and surprisingly an enjoyable read. I say this because it was different from all the other trashy Harlequin Next books I have had the displeasure to read.

The only qualm I have about Hell's Belles is that the personalities of the four women didn't seem like they were 40 years old. That or maybe all the almost 40 years old act like they are 40 going on 30. At least.

The characters of Della, Mattie, Erica and Shay were all very likeable. Mattie had a part in the story and I was happy with it. And thank God for the unclichéd twist regarding Della. If it hadn't turned out the way it did, I would surely have not continue reading. Shay and Erica were underestimated and unappreciated and it would have been comforting if their characters got as satisfied as the other two in the end.

In all, Hell Belle's was a good lazy summer read. I am in favor of reading such books to get my perspective back on things after some heavy, serious reading. And what's more, it's one more to go to my read-in-2011 shelf!

Pretty decent women's fiction!!

From back cover:

"Shaking it up at the Stop-n-Bowl. The belles of hell-four best friends growing up in Haddes, Georgia-had a plan. Right before graduating high school, and setting off to capture their dreams, they decided to create a "time capsule"-a letter describing their fantasies for the future. In twenty years they'd meet and see if fantasy had met with reality.

Mattie: At forty, was the man of her dreams still miles away?

Della: Her old prom dress no longer fit. Did her wedding ring?

Erica: Had seen the world, and found that Hell, home and love all meant Haddes.

Shay: Now could she stop running from her fears?

Hell's Belles were back-and though they'd traded milkshakes for margaritas, one thing still remained the same: a whole lot of shaking was about to happen in Haddes!"

I found the premise intriguing, but there were too many characters and sub-plots within the story for the length provided. This might have worked with fewer characters in an initial book that fed into a series focusing on the others.

I read this book because the author is one of Kris' clients. I enjoyed it, but felt like too much was sandwiched into one book. There were enough characters and storylines for this to be a series.

There was too much put into one book. I felt it should have been written a little better. Not one of the best books I've read
