Two best friends. Ten New Years. One last chance to get it right.
Gloria has trained her whole life to dance at the American Ballet Company in New York. Now that she has the coveted prima ballerina spot, Jacob will not be the one to stand in the way of her dreams.
Jacob has finally landed a record deal and is on his way to fame and fortune. Gloria would never let her feelings for him jeopardize his career.
Gloria and Jacob are perfect for each other, but their relationship seems opposed by fate. Will these star-crossed lovers listen to their hearts and take control of their destiny, or will they let another year keep them apart?
If you loved the Russo family in Dear Pink, then you’ll love seeing Gabe’s sister Gloria in this holiday romance novella. Fans of One Day in December, In a Holidaze, and This Time Next Year will enjoy this “missed chances” love story.
Their love is written in the stars if they’d only open their eyes to see it.
MichelleAngelle knows how to deliver a romantic comedy that you won't forget, including this latest book, Until Next Year. I felt connected to the main characters Jacob and Gloria and sometimes found myself screaming at the two of them to get on with it! (Sorry, no spoilers, so you'll have to read to know exactly what that means). This short novel is a perfect holiday read about close friends, loving relationships, good intentions, and plenty of laughs. a 5-star, sweet and romantic read.
This was a very cute little novella about love and friendship and I had a good time with it. It’s about Gloria and Jacob, and is set on 10 New Year’s Eves, which happens to be close the day the bunch of friends celebrate Gloria’s birthday, which is on January 1st. It did what a novella needed to do and I really loved the characters and their friendship!
Two best friends. Ten New Years. One unforgettable night. We had such a great time writing this holiday novel. Truth is, we found ourselves giggling during the edits!
Travel back in time and discover the backstory behind Gloria (from Dear Pink) and Jacob in our stand alone romantic comedy, Until Next Year.
I'm a huge fan of Michelle Angelle! This author duo has NEVER done wrong by me. Time and time again, they have proved their ability to craft a romance novel.
Until Next Year is no exception.
Stylistically, this is a book that's super easy to read. It's going to suck you in within the first couple of pages and not let you go. Since it's a novella-sized book, there's no lengthy prose or drawn out yearning. It's all cut and dry on the page for you, and honestly, that makes for a super good palate cleanser, in my opinion.
The characters also shine! Our two main leads--Gloria and Jacob--are both very career-driven people. Friends since elementary school, they fall in and out of touch over the course of the ten years that this story takes place in, and if that's not the most realistic thing about adult relationships, I don't know what is. But they do have such amazing chemistry, and I really felt the romance there. It didn't sneak up on you (which I don't like) and it wasn't forced.
One of my major complaints is actually the large cast. We sort of have a revolving door of friends and partners over the years. The constant cast is there--hanging out at the Pooper Palace (honestly, who thinks of these things? lol) every year--but the other people come and go. Each person was unique, and I think they were all strong characters. But after so many, I kind of just lost track and they started blending together. Then you've got people like Alistair the Shakespeare Enthusiast and Doctor Matthew the Inspirationalist--and you kind of forget that there are so many, because it's so gosh, dang funny. lol
My favorite novel by these authors hands down! I was expecting over the top, crazy antics like the previous novels I have read. It wasn’t a story to make me laugh like the other installments. Instead, I received something more honest, raw and real. I loved the story and watching Glory and Jacob come together.
The story plugs along year by year of Gloria's birthday and how her relationship with Jacob evolves. It shouldn’t work and yet it does. It was interesting that you don’t get to actually see Gloria’s and Jacob’s careers really. You don’t get to meet those other people in their lives because you only get the one night a year everybody comes together.
You have a tight knit group of friends that you get to see grow, change and find their way through life together. At first the characters feel like strangers but by the end, it is almost like they are your own friends. You root for them, love them and are happy with their successes in life.
The romance with Gloria and Jacob is all about pine and angst. It takes these two forever to get together. A lot of miscommunication, missed opportunities and second guessing. When it finally happened though, it was worth the wait. The side characters are what I liked best though. Honestly I feel these authors always knock it out of the park with them. Seeing each character find their way in life career wise and love wise was very satisfying. If you read either of the previous books by these authors you won’t be disappointed with Until Next Year.
Have you ever played Hide and Seek on New Year's Eve? What a fun read! Michelle Angelle‘s third book in the series––it can be read as a standalone––is a slow burn.
Two best friends yearn for each other but…things get in their way. And, as for the Hide and Seek? You'll have to find out for yourself what that's all about.
Combine ten years of New Year’s Eves, birthdays, and a tribe of best buddies with a good guy Rockstar and a ballerina who’s worked hard in a competitive world. What you get is a page-turner.
Told from the point of view of both characters, Until Next Year is swoon worthy in a non-sappy way. I always love a dual POV because that way I get into the head of not only the heroine, but the hero as well. I’ll admit it. For me, it’s important to hear the guy’s thoughts and motivation. That way, there’s no room for misinterpreting what’s going on.
Gloria and Jacob’s story will make your heart clench.
This was a fun read, with lots of fune easy going characters. The reason for the four stars is that I needed more background during the time leaps. The story is at the same place but in different time periods. We get a little info about what happened during the year(s) that these friends and love interests didn't see each other. I did get involved into the frustrating hit and misses of the two main characters, rooting for them to finally get together. The HEA did tie it together nicely, but I'm more a fan of the other stories written by these ladies!
Michelle and Angelle know how to tell a story with humor and understanding friendship and love. They have an unique skill of writing colorful supporting characters that you want as friends.
Over a period of ten years, you read about their lives, careers and relationships. It’s a journey cleverly focused into a yearly reunion when they gather on New Year’s Eve and celebrate Gloria’s birthday. Jacob and Gloria value their friendship; yet, they have loved each other since childhood. I eagerly read each chapter to discover when they would realize their friendship has evolved into a different kind of love; that’s the joy in reading this book.
The vivid dialogue and humorous situations combined with miscommunications, busy work schedules of a handsome rock star and successful ballerina balance this love story. It’s an engaging story of love and friendship.
I almost got on trouble trying to finish this book, so thanks for that... I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry and suspense left me at the edge of my seat and my fingernails all worn. These two authors have done a fantastic job on this holiday romance and I implore you to dive into it. Read as part of a book club
I love it when authors take characters from their novels and give them the main stage so we can learn about their story. This is exactly what Michelle Angelle did — Gloria is a character from Dear Pink.
Not only is Gloria’s story interesting enough for her own novel, but the authors tell the story and a unique way— we get to peek in on Gloria and Jacob once a year!
The story rang so true because relationships are tedious, full of angst, riddled with mistakes, and just so much waiting… So instead of the book taking 1000 pages to take readers through the many ups and downs and twists and turns, we get to experience how long it can take for two people to be honest with themselves and each other by having a year pass between chapters.
Michelle Angelle did such a great job of helping me see the growth of these two characters in subtle ways and with smart dialogue. As always, these authors know how to create side characters that are fun and interesting and more than just plot devices!
This book was a delight to read and felt so real, which can be pretty tricky when the romantic lead is a famous popstar;) I highly recommend this love story, with humor, struggles, and powerful friendships!
I really enjoyed these characters. Definitely made me rethink my New Years plans. I’m looking forward to the next one. I’m not sure Michelle Angelle can get any better.
A quick, fun and dare I say.... EASY read?! Count me in!
I adore the characters in this book! 2 friends that are head over heels in love with one another, kept apart my time and careers, only able to get together for New Years?! ughhh. I loved everything about this book! I cannot recommend this romance enough! I cannot wait to see what else this author has in store for us.
Gloria and Jacob have been best friends for as long as they can remember. Both set off after high school chasing big dreams. The group of friends promise to get together every New Years Eve to celebrate and reconnect. The story takes us on a journey of 10 New Years.
This one is a little different than the authors previous books. We just get a snippet of the character's lives each year. I wanted to smack some sense into Gloria every year for her persistence in self sabotage. I wanted her to grow up and learn to communicate with Jacob on a real level. Jacob seemed open and honest but was taking his cues from Gloria. I love the friend group they were fabulous. It is a very special time when you have friends that you rarely see but are so integral to your life that you can pickup with them at any time. I really liked Until Next Year and hope we see some of them again in a future book.
This was another great read by two of my favorite romcom authors. This book is an easy, light, quick escape, just what I need during these times of such bad news. I enjoyed the characters and rooted for Jacob and Gloria to get together. It was fun to see who would gather each year at New Years at the poop palace. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next collaboration.
Gloria and Jacob seem to be made for each other, but the only people standing in their way are them. It was very realistic for me. I felt, like many people in life fail to communicate and think it's not the right time or the right day or we think the other person doesn't care. It takes a lot of courage to love someone, and it also opens doors to vulnerability.
A nice, short holiday read, which shows ... the perfect time is now.
Until next year was honest and sweet, and full of moments that made you smile, made your heart hurt, and made you laugh. Oh my God, the escape room scene had me in hysterics.
Gloria was the perfect imperfect fMC, one who didn't want to mess up her life long friendship. The connections between the characters were wonderfully done, and the whole style of the book with the chapters each being Gloria's birthday was a nice little twist, although my heart was hurting with each year that passed!!
If you love rom coms with some spice, do not hesitate to grab this book.
Reading Dear Pink for my book club, I fell in love with the Russo family, so I was excited to read about Gabe's sister Gloria in this second book in the series. Told in chapters that only take place on another New Year's Eve was clever and unique. The pace was fast and although I figured the love story would end happily, I found I was also stressed by the suspense created by every missed opportunity. I wanted to scream at Jacob and Gloria, something I'm sure their friends felt most of the time. I also laughed out loud while reading it. The cast of characters was super fun and I knew I would be introduced to someone funny in every chapter. If you are looking for graphic sex scenes, then this isn't for you. It was more like a slow burn with a lot of angst...something I like.
At first, I didn't understand this book. It isn't the normal romance trope although there is an HEA. It covers 10 years in a quick novella. If you want the same old story, this one isn't for you. If you like an experimental work with some hilarious humor then it works. I need to read the first book again.
Perfect book for the holidays I would love to see this in a movie! There are too many characters for my brain to keep up, but they are all so funny and quirky that I'm sure I'll love to watch them in a Tv series like Friends. The story expands over ten years, and there are times when I wanted to scream at the main characters for the frustration their misunderstanding caused :)) I would have liked more backstory in between their annual encounters and a longer ending, but these are minor things. A strong 4.5 stars from me. i read this as part of a book club.
A modern love story for all ages. Too seasoned for a good old-fashioned love story? — never. Too old for a tale of yearning and desire? — uh-uh. Romance keeps us young. And, coupled with a few belly laughs, "Until Next Year" made me feel ten years younger (maybe twenty).
Daisy and Jacob meet in elementary school. Neither know it but they secretly love the other. Desperate to maintain their friendship but terrible at doing it this book chronicles six Daisy and Jacob as they see each other yearly and their merry band of friends each New Year's Eve.
I loved reading how Gloria and Jacob's relationship grew over several years, by only getting a glimpse into their lives one night a year! It's just fun to root for love. And as always, Michelle Angelle turns it up with the side characters and makes you want to be friends with them all! Couldn't put it down.
I’ve never read anything by this author before but it was so good. The whole friendship group were amazing together and their individual friendships were amazing to. There was a lot going on but not to much to the point where it would confuse you. I can’t wait to read more books written by this author
Simply put, this friends to lovers romance is an awful book! There are several reasons they’re still trying to promote it over a year after it was first published and every one of this writing duo’s books have fewer than 100 Goodreads reviews (which I’m convinced are mostly written by well-meaning friends).
I don’t like the writing style. The dialogue is trite and stilted and there is zero character development. There are also way too many characters to keep track of with new ones introduced at the annual New Year’s Eve/Gloria’s birthday celebrations and all of them lack any depth. Even though 10 years pass, it’s more like a Groundhog Day trope where a bunch of rich Dallas kids party at the ironically-named Pooper Palace (coined for the wildly successful pooper scooper/composter one the the character’s father invented) and do everything in their power to try to get Gloria and Jacob together.
Unfortunately, Gloria, who has the emotional depth of a puddle, is so afraid of ruining the relationship with her “best” friend that she ghosts him time and again for, by her own admission, no reason. They spend most of every year ignoring each other, not even getting together when they’re in the same city. Even when they finally admit their feelings for each other, she uses her job as a prima ballerina with the American Ballet Theater and his as a successful pop star as an excuse to stop trying to build more. Yet, despite this trash fire of a friendship, Jacob the wimp doesn’t stop pining for her and every NYE, he tries again. Ultimately, they’re both cowards who don’t grow up.
It was also really annoying how everyone of their friends and most people they get together with are hugely successful. In addition to the main couple, there’s an NHL player who collaborates with another friends to market I forget what and they both make a fortune; a cellist with the NY Philharmonic; the modern artist with an exhibit at MoMA, etc. Totally unrealistic!
I’m not even sure why I finished this train wreck, but I did the gawking for you, so I can tell you unequivocally, don’t waste your time or money.
I received this advanced reader copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are completely my own.
