Royal Watch #1

Royal Watch

Rate this book
There are many stories about regular girls meeting a prince, falling in love, and living happily ever after…blah, blah, blah.

This is not that story.

As a lowly Baron’s daughter, I sit on the outskirts of the noble circle, watching the royal family from afar. Exactly where I’d rather be. To me that world was anything but magical or fantasy, their lives under a relentless microscope, controlled by traditions and expectations. I was the girl dreaming about becoming a veterinarian and surrounding myself with animals instead of people.
A wallflower who suddenly bloomed, I somehow nabbed the attention of the arrogant, but undeniably handsome, Theodore Alexander Philip Robert David Livingston.

The Prince of Great Victoria.

I never imagined falling in love with a prince, but I did.

When Theo comes back from the Royal Air Force with an extremely sexy, but extremely arrogant new bodyguard, Lennox Easton, everything is flipped upside down. Tattooed, mysterious, and cruel, our mutual hatred for each becomes even more complicated when I move into the palace, becoming the official girlfriend of Prince Theo, and now under Lennox’s watch.

Thrown in a society which controls my every move, social media viciously coming after me, and paparazzi looking for any juicy gossip, my world becomes a cage. Glided or not, my life becomes nothing as I imagined, I find myself turning to the very last person I should.

When family secrets start to surface from the past, old enemies come for revenge, along with blackmail, forbidden love, and devastating revelations.
Everything is set to bring me down and even take my life.

I knew loving a prince would come with sacrifices, but when you give up everything …when does the fairytale become a nightmare?

I loved it!

It wasn't perfect but it was exactly what I needed right now! As I've said before, it's always such a pleasant surprise to pick a random book and end up loving it!

It's not exactly a "love" triangle since, so far, the h is just jealous and attracted to Lennox but those who don't like this trope maybe should stay away.

I'm sorry for this review being so short but I can't wait to start the next book. If you have any questions about it though, please don't hesitate to ask me. I'm saving my 5 star rating for it even though I could easily give it to this one too. 4 ⭐

P.S.: This book starts with the h and one of the Hs studying in a school that only royals can attend. I thought it would be really interesting to read a book set in a school like this one so if you have any recommendations please let me know! Thank you 😊

This life was all about the surface. What it looked like to the world, not what it really was.

5 Royally battered stars!!

Holy hell this book!!
SMB came onto my author radar earlier this year after reading her novel DESCENDING INTO MADNESS, and she has quickly become one of my go-to favorite authors for a steamy read that I know will also drag my heart through the mud after being trampled on. And she did not disappoint with ROYAL WATCH, leaving me breathless and desperate for book two after that damn cliffhanger!
Wiping the tears, I gathered myself together, shoving back my emotions. It terrified me how quickly I regained my composure, a little voice asking how long it would be until I turned into Catherine or the dowager queen, Anne. When I would become so good at hiding me, I actually never felt anything anymore.

Spencer is the daughter of a lowly Baron, too out of touch to be of any notice to the Royal family but with just enough Royal blood in her not to ignore. And even though she and her friends spend more time making fun of the Royals than wishing to be them, when she's suddenly noticed by the Prince of Great Victoria, her world is completely spun around and turned into something she never wanted yet what every other girl desires.
“Don’t challenge me, Baroness. You have no idea what I am capable of.” His voice was low and menacing, his lips only a hair away from my cheek. “And just because I work for the king, does not make me beneath you.” His breath hit my cheek, sliding down my neck. “I only do that position when someone is riding my cock.”

Enter Lennox Easton, Spencer's new Royal bodyguard. He's brash, blunt, arrogant, smoking hot, and not someone Spencer should even notice considering she's dating the future king. But as Theo takes on more and more Royal duties, Spencer finds herself feeling left out and forgotten, nothing more than someone who will make Theo's presence even more commanding. His thoughtless actions and seeming forgetfulness when it comes to her feelings all work to magnify her feelings of inadequacy and insignificance in her new life. As she struggles to keep her identity in a Royal House bent on protecting her from herself, Spencer must also learn to navigate all of the dangers that come with dating a Royal, including unwanted advances, unexpected danger, and unavoidable blackmail.
My own family, the people here, everyone was trying to control my life and every choice of words from my mouth, ripping my voice away.

Overall, I found this story absolutely fascinating and also heartbreaking as I couldn't help but draw comparisons to real-life Royal, Meghan Markle. Even though this tale is pure fiction, I have to believe there is some truth to how Spencer's life is dictated by the Royal House until she fits their mold simply because she fell in love with someone who has Royal blood. Spencer showcases the same strength and character that I imagine Meghan wields, and I was so enraptured with her story, unable to put it down. There were so many other addicting storylines going on as well--as is typical for SMB--that I cannot wait to see how they unravel in book two, especially after that last scene!! ♡

My Lennox Easton, always watching Spencer with an intensity some might consider inappropriate....

[Side note: seeing as we barely got a kiss between Lennox and Spencer in this book, I am expecting a lustful sequel SMB! Please, and thank you very much ♡♡]

Seriously?

Seriously?

That’s where things come to a halt for now?!?!

*Takes a deep, cleansing breath*

Alright, I know, I know. This is a duet and a cliffhanger was to be expected...but THAT? Yeah, no. Not even on the radar. Not. Even. Close.

But, I shall deal…

Now for the review of the first 90%+ of the book.

As this is a duet, I’m keeping things vague, but I will say I found this read fascinating overall. The ‘inside’ look at the nobility and royalty and with the hierarchy and how, depending on where you fall in line, how much of your life is not your own definitely kept me turning the pages because you never knew just what you’d get with the various characters you were about to meet.

And the backhanded compliments were AWESOME!

As for Spencer, Theo and Lennox. Well...I will say that I LOVE Spencer, some of her thoughts drove me a little batshit at times, but she comes by them honestly so I tend to forgive them. Theo and Lennox….hhmmmm...I’m going to hold off on these two until the next book.

I have to admit that there were many, many times during this book that I had to remind myself just how old the majority of these characters were and the expectations put upon them didn’t always match their actual age or emotional maturity level, so the frustration with them and for them was a real one. With that said, there were a good handful that I absolutely loved and cannot wait to spend more time with them as well as see how things play out for everyone in Royal Command!

Royal Watch
By: Stacey Marie Brown

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
Do you think being the girlfriend of a prince would be awesome or awful? I honestly see pros and cons about it. In Royal Watch, Stacey Marie Brown takes us inside the life of a royal girlfriend, showing the good and the bad. Spenser, a Baron's daughter and aspiring veterinarian, is the lucky (or not?) lady who has caught the eye of Prince Theodore of Great Victoria. Spenser has never desired a royal lifestyle, but she loves the prince and for him steps, reluctantly, into his orbit. Let's take a moment to note that Prince Theo sacrifices nothing to have Spenser by his side. Conversely, Spenser sacrifices, well, everything. Fair? I suppose the rationale would be to look at everything she gained. Did Spenser gain a lot, though? She has lost her freedom, friends, lifestyle, privacy, opinions and all decision making. Now, Spenser follows the royal rule book, which, let's be honest, sucks. She is under constant scrutiny and pressure for every little thing she does or doesn't do, and any skeletons in her closet will be found. Plus, Spenser now has a bodyguard, Lennox, who irritates her to no end. There could possibly be trouble here if Spenser and Lennox realize and/or act upon their simmering attraction to each other. As the story progresses, Prince Theo becomes less likeable and more of a jerk for his lousy treatment of Spenser. Lennox, on the other hand, becomes more likeable because he sees Spenser as a valuable person and treats her as such. It's a crazy conundrum. Spenser is a fabulous heroine who has accepted a tenuous royal position, but she's uncertain about this fairytale life. It's nothing like she imagined, and doubt creeps into her mind. If her relationship with Prince Theo has morphed into a nightmare, what should Spenser do-stick it out, run fast and far? What about Lennox? What would you do if you were Spenser? I love the uncertainty that keeps up a good guessing game. This is a well written and richly drawn royal read with a lot to offer. It leaves you thinking about what you would or would not sacrifice for love. Oh, also, watch out for that cliff at the end!

This type of book concept isn’t really my thing.
A had high expectations starting this book but from the start something felt wrong with the Prince and her.
Cute but not really explosive.

Then entire Lennox the new bodyguard, the relationship that is growing between them has definitely the potential to become something really electrifying and long lasting.

The big issue I have is the cheating aspect I mean she has a boyfriend but has felling for someone else. Prince Theo might not be the best boyfriend in the world but i don’t really like this type of storyline.

I will read the next book to see how it ends.

Royal Watch is an engaging read that will leave you wondering if a fairytale romance is indeed possible. I do love a good royal romance and the author does a brilliant job highlighting the trials and tribulations that come with dating a famous prince. It isn’t all glitz and glamor when Spencer, a brilliant young woman, captures the eye of Prince Theodore of Great Victoria. She discovers that loving a royal isn’t easy and she must grapple with how drastically her life has changed. Thrust into an unforgiving spotlight, she is at the risk of losing what she holds dear, but is love worth these sacrifices? Spencer is a likable, well-developed heroine and the author does a stellar job illustrating just how conflicted she is as she attempts to navigate being immersed into the royal life, maintaining a relationship with Theo, and adjusting to having a bodyguard who pushes her buttons. Add in the family secrets, intrigue, and intense sexual tension and you have a book that you will be unable put down! As Royal Watch is book 1 of a duet, there is quite the cliffhanger and I am looking forward to seeing how the story unravels. I read an early complimentary version of this book.

This was the first book in the "Royal Watch" series. Lennox Easton, Spencer's new Royal bodyguard. As Theo takes on more and more Royal duties, Spencer finds herself feeling left out and forgotten, nothing more than someone who will make Theo's presence even more commanding. I liked this book but it was too long at times and somewhat boring. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Don’t all little girls dream of meeting and marrying a prince when they grow up? Not Spencer Sutton, being a baron’s daughter, low down in the hierarchy of the aristocracy, she sits on the sidelines watching the royal family from afar not wanting to be part of their gilded cage. That is until the day she caught the attention of Theodore Livingston, Prince of Great Victoria.
Her life as she knows it will be irrevocably changed, she will no longer be able to follow her dreams or have any control over her life, she will be molded to become the perfect princess. Desperately needing Theo to be by her side to support her, she sees less and less of him, as he is caught up with his own royal obligations.
Spencer spends more time with her broody, challenging, and sexy bodyguard Lennox Easton. They are passionate in their dislike of each other, yet he is able to understand her struggles and needs.
This is not a fairy tale romance, it is a story of intrigue, blackmail, family secrets, and forbidden love. This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions from empathy to frustration, lust to anger, and outrage to fear. It is well written, it will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 stars.

Mmmmmm. I'm looking at Royal Watch with some serious side eye. I love SMB's fantasy writing (hello, talking about you Collector series) but I've never had a time to read her contemporary romance pieces yet. And boyyy, like WTF.

GAH! Prince Theo's relationship drove me fucking nuts. Actually, the whole relationship was a recipe for disaster. I couldn't stand it that Spencer had to constantly motivate herself to stick with Theo. She had to convince herself that THAT was what she wanted. I'm like, no girl nooo! Spence is swimming neck deep in flags. You do not give up everything you are for a boy, I don't care how good the dick is. And spoiler, it wasn't. Mina was so right. She was the only one with enough brain cells to rub together.

But what drove me mad was that Spencer would constantly deny herself being naivete. Tell them to treat her like a woman. Well, okay. Then STOP FUCKING ACTING LIKE A CHILD. I get it, they're young with impossibly steep expectations placed on them. Standards that even the Queen herself admitted would take a lifetime to achieve only to be labeled as subpar. Oh boohoo, go cry yourself a river when you don't do shit. She didn't have a backbone, she just cried when things didn't go her way. But I empathize with her struggles. I just wish she was smart enough to think for herself— how to fight when being thrown to the wolves.

Which leads me to complaining that it took 90% of constant crying to really get to the good parts. Why wasn't the twists and lies made apparent sooner? I got tired of her "clever" sneaky moments of drugs, partying, and alcohol. SICK. OF. IT.

And that all concludes with me saying that Lennox Easton is one hot man. That character is so real. He is the only reason why this book gets 2 stars, when I debated on giving it 1. He brings out the best and most genuine side in Spencer and I only liked her when she was being real.

I could have skipped this book. It was a waste of my time. But the last 10% cinched my curiosity because, duh, cliffhanger. So with much reluctance, I will most likely read the next book.

What’s the point of fairytales? Love and happy endings? Well, then this isn’t the story for you, but if you want complicated love with unexpected situations, then this story IS for you. Stacey Marie Brown does it again with this romance of uncertain possibilities, and what seems like never ending sacrifices to obtain the forever love we all including Spencer dreams of. The characters are brought to life before you, personalities that clash and mold, and bring about feelings that aren’t just the characters but your own in this epic story of love. What is love if titles are always the priority? My guess this book will make you question if falling in love with a Royal is what your dreams are made of, or if real love is a sacrifice we all chose.

Oh how I wish I were a fly on the wall at Stacey Marie Brown's house so that I could watch her writing process!! I absolutely LOVED this book. And I am DYING to know what happens next!! This book grabbed me and pulled me in. I felt the realism of that world, and I felt Spencer's feelings of being on the outside looking in even as she stood in the same room with the royals. I love her compatibility with Theo, but I am drawn to the passion and ferocity between Spencer and Lennox. Also, I want to smack the living daylights out of her uncle. 5 stars and 2 thumbs way way up!!

I finished this yesterday and I honestly can't stop thinking about it. Hot prince and even hotter bodyguard? Yes, please.

If you love this author, you won't be disappointed with her new story.
"Royal Watch" is a forbidden romance with love/hate and enemies to lovers vibes.
Spencer is a baron's daughter and she's going to elite school, where she meets a future king of Great Victoria, prince Theodore. They became a secret couple. When Theo comes back from the Royal Air Force, he wants it to be official. He wants to introduce Spencer to the world as his new girlfriend.
But does this relationship have any future? Is being a prince's girlfriend a beautiful fairy tale or is it a real nightmare?
Enter Lennox. He's a new Theo's bodyguard, who from the first moment feels dislike for Spencer.
And she finds him cold, annoying and arrogant. But there is also some kind of connection/understanding and this delicious tension/chemistry between them...
Family secrets, royal obligations, twist and turns, forbidden feelings... all of it you will find here.
Can't wait for book 2.

Lennox forever.

I love Stacey Marie Brown (her urban fantasy books specifically) so this was a bit different from what I'm used to reading from her.

I absolutely irrevocably love Lennox - he was everything. Growly, sexy, protective. Please can I have me a Lennox in my life. Spencer better end up with him or my phone will be thrown towards a couple of walls in my house.

On the subject of Spencer, she was the reason I only gave this 3 stars. I found her to be extremely irritating and some of her choices were cringe. Use your brain girl, you've got one in that head somewhere. I has to keep reminding myself that she is only 18/19 in this book but honestly she was so annoying. I hope she gets it together in book 2.

Poor Theo, he hasn't been a very good boyfriend in my opinion and his and Spencer's lack of sexual chemistry just says it all. I feel sorry for him though because he has such huge obligations for someone so young and can never ever be a normal teenager. It made me think about the royal family in the UK and how hard it must be for all of them - I would personally absolutely hate it if I was part of the royal family. This book makes me think that Harry did the right thing by rescinding his title and taking a step back in royal duties in my opinion. It also made me think about Kate and Meghan and how hard it must be for them coming into a royal family who are loved by so many and you being the 'newbie'. The criticism they have received and still receive is so sad.

On to book 2!

Simple perfection. I can't wait for Royal Command!

Wonderful story to read. Could not put the book down. Being Royal cannot be easy.

I love Spencer's fire. You can never go wrong with a strong lead who appreciates the simpler things in lifex even with a background like hers. I love her strength and the maturity she shows in many aspects of her life. Still being a young adultx there is also immaturity there but it truly is a breath of fresh air for this character.

Highly recommend if you're for an easy flowing, fun, and engaging story with a smart, strong, lead.

Give me some more Spencer, Lennox, and Theo!

4.5 stars!

I read a few of this author's paranormal books a few years ago and I remember really enjoying them! I then knew about this book releasing and the cover and synopsis intrigued me, so I grabbed a copy and then waited for the second book to release before even thinking of reading this book lol! I then had a lot of ARCs to read, so this book ended up moving down on my TBR list until I had some free time! After reading this book, I can say that I enjoyed this book! I really liked the direction the plot went in and it kept me wanting to read on! I was also expecting a love triangle to be in the plot because it says there will be in the synopsis! I enjoyed the addition of the love triangle, but I really hope that it has more of an impact in the next book because it was sort of hinted at in this book, but didn't develop into anything! There was also a big action scene at the end of the book, which I wasn't expecting! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Spencer was the main character, and in this book her life changed forever and everyone knew who she was and she was in the limelight! Spencer did struggle with all the new changes in her life, which was completely understandable! I felt like Spencer tried her best, and she did try and be honest, but she wasn't listened to! She was also very young! There were two love interests for Spencer in this book and they were Theodore 'Theo' and Lennox! I could see that both guys had real feelings for Spencer, but they both had different lives! Theo was born to be the next king and this meant that he had a lot of rules to follow and he had to act a certain way! Lennox was different to Theo because he was a bodyguard of his! I loved all the lingering glances and moments between Spencer and Lennox! This book was only written from Spencer's point of view, which I have to say did surprise me a little! I mean, the synopsis does give the impression that it's only going to be written from only one point of view, but I was kinda hoping that it might have been written from a few different point of views! I did like this book only being written through Spencer's eyes, but I would have loved to have gotten the chance to go inside Theo and Lennox's heads as well! It did allow the reader to find things out at the same time as Spencer and it was her journey, so I understood why it was only written from her point of view! I now can't wait to read the next book in this duet! I'm really happy that I waited for the second book to release before I read this one because the ending was left at quite a big cliff-hanger ending, so it has me really excited to find out what's going to happen next! I'm definitely going to be making the next book my next read and I can't wait to find out how the plot is going to progress! The cover for this book is also absolutely stunning! I loved it as soon as I saw it and I really wanted to read the story behind it! The cover image/models definitely suit the characters of Spencer and I can only assume Theo, but it could always be Lennox!

WOw wow wow wow wow wow wow!!!!!! I just can't stop myself from screaming and fanning after reading about Lennox.. But before I start jumping upon "What the Fuck" was I speaking right now.. Let me tell you You need to Fuckin get hold of this book like your next breath and next glass of water and this was my first book of this author and Stacie let me tell you You made me Fall for hard for Lennox..
I can't stop myself from thinking Michelle Morrone as Lennox and if You don't know about Michelle Morrone just google it...So Spencer Is the baroness .. who always fathomed for Theo the prince and the future king of Great Victoria and an accidental cute mashup led to Theo noticing Spencer and falling for her.. We are sent fast forward to 8 months where Theo and Spencer are in a serious relationship and that is when they were about to celebrate the last few days of the end of their school was when Ben (aka Benjamin) , Theo's bestie bombed that Theo was to the Royal Air Force and he will leave early.. although Spencer was hurt but who knew Theo going to RAF was actually a turning point of Spencer's life . After 4 months when Theo arrived he bought Lennox as his new bodyguard..and forget about us Spencer herself couldn't bring herself in believing that a person so hot and smoldering can exist on Earth..but duh!! Lennox turned out least cared and interested and more irritated with her..but the universe had a totally new thing.. no matter whatever consequences led them together..So, when Spencer and Lennox came together as the owner and bodyguard sparks , fire crackers all came out like a volcano.. So was their chemistry.. the more they spend together the More Lennox realized that Spencer wasn't what he expected her to be and he himself couldn't control her sassy mouth.. well loads of secreats are unveiled when Christopher Baron was in huge debt and lost all his property in bidding and now Spencer has put her pride on stake by repaying Lord William but there seems like something more for us... For which we need to wait with baited breath for Royal Command to release...and i just can't wait for May to appear.

All I will recommend.. Stop going through any reviews and start reading this book without any thought in your mind.
