Devereaux is cursed. During the day, he's a stone gargoyle looming menacingly over the castle fountain. Only at night can he shift into human form and walk the grounds, but he's not allowed to leave. Monsters must be contained.
The only way to break his curse and become human forever is a kiss from his fated mate—but who would ever fall in love with a grotesque gargoyle?
Florian lost everything but hope. He's being kicked out of the orphanage in a week, and then must get a job or sleep in the streets. But with his chronic pain, Florian has few options. Nobody wants to hire a disabled omega.
Taking a leap of faith, Florian visits the fountain and wishes for a brighter future. Too bad the only one listening is the terrifying gargoyle with the sapphire eyes...
Can true love's kiss break the curse? Or are Devereaux and Florian doomed to be lost forever?
The Gargoyle's Fate is a slow-burn M/M monster romance featuring a gargoyle 'shifter', a human and the power of love. It has sweet scenes and angst, no cheating or cliffhangers, and an HEA. This omegaverse book does not include pregnancy.
Hawke is a M/M author who loves the world of MPREG and shifters. In his spare time he enjoys hiking with his dog, hanging out with his boyfriend, and playing video games.
Another awesome and exciting story from this author. Two fascinating main characters with a wonderful supporting cast! The story itself is a bit of a blend of other fairytales with some lovely heat thrown in for good measure! LOVED IT!!!!!
This was a lovely little fairytale of a book. With a tender romance and prose that felt like a classic tale, this story has both Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella vibes. As expected with most fated mates stories, the love connection is very fast, but they were so gentle and enchanted with each other, that it felt genuine. There were quite a few side characters introduced, and I hope they get their own stories.
Disappointed because it was flat and boring plus I thought Dev was a prince because he said something about the castle guards "Why did I feel comfortable doing so? And why did they obey me without a second thought?" Nope, he wasn't a prince. When Florian kisses him, he still not 100- percent human still made of stones with a "special feature". Dev was an alpha and Florian was an omega but no mpreg happened.
Dev wasn't cursed but he was an experiment made by someone or something named Argon. Dev was a gargoyle meanwhile Argon was a man with some dragon characteristics. I bet Argon was the owner of the castle and he got his own happy ending with Noel, an omega the headmaster had sold years ago.
The story didn't revealed many things about Dev's past or Argon's experiment so I think I need to finish this series to found out what really happened.

This was a good book, yes. And I liked it. But that’s about it. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, and this isn’t really one. But here’s the thing, Devreaux, the alpha, was the least alpha alpha I’ve read about. Like, could’ve passed for a beta. They fell in love in like three, four days after briefly meeting on three separate occasions and it just didn’t do it for me. Yeah they’re fated mates, but still. Felt dry and dull.
Spoiler coming ahead ⚠️
Devreaux, after true love’s kiss broke his curse turned perpetually into stone. Like had a stone dick and all. And everyone was so happy and accepting—it didn’t feel realistic. If my man turned into goddamn stone I wouldn’t just take it in stride as instantaneously as Florian. Didn’t work for me.
"I pressed my chest against his so we were flush together, skin to stone. His body felt so sturdy and strong, and safe and warm despite being a living statue. I could've stayed snuggled against Devereaux forever."
Sorry, no.

This was a very sweet read. Short novel or long novella length it was addictive and didn't let me go. Quite unusual in its storyline, I kept turning the pages just to see what would happen next and find out all the answers to my many questions.
Most questions were answered, some are still to be discovered. This story is complete with its HFN ending, but I suspect Florian and Deveraux will be involved in the following books too.
This book set up the next book or two very well and I'm eager to continue the story!
This book is interesting. But I think it could have been a lot better. Several questions are not answered in the book. I feel that some more back story would have made this book more interesting.
I really enjoy Gargoyle stories. I like how differently each author approaches their origin, appearance, purpose, and what happens after dark. This book seems to take place during medieval times. It makes the atmosphere even more fraught with menace.
Another reason I really enjoyed this book is that it was written by one of my favorites Hawke Oakley. I've read quite a few works by this author but I deliberately make sure not to read them all so that I have a book I know I have the expectation of enjoying when I select it. This author hasn't disappointed me yet.
Much of the book takes place in an orphanage where abuse is pervasive and a stately courtyard with rigid rules enforced by castle guards. I prayed for a happy ending as the story is fraught with abuse, pain, confusion, mystery, and danger.
This ended up being a very entertaining story. I eagerly look forward to reading the sequel, hoping many of my unanswered questions will be addressed. Though I have to say I did enjoy the suspense and anticipation of adventures to come
For others familiar with Hawke Oakley’s other books, this one is a bit different. It has slightly more angst than usual, but the characters and romance are still as endearing as ever. I love their other series, but looking forward to seeing more books in this new Cursed Alphas series as well!
This was such a sweet surprise. I’ve read a few of Hawke’s books and the synopsis appealed. It’s a fairytale for adult. Devereux is an interesting character. Florian very sweet. The secondary characters Pascal and Argon add another dimension and I hope we get both their books.
So many questions unanswered... and I didn't like that Devereaux was stuck as a gargoyle forever. Maybe if he turned into human during the day and gargoyle at night or if he could shift whenever he wanted, I would be happier, because imagining Florian kissing a wolf's muzzle is just wrong. And even his tongue is cold and he is all stone. Ugh, didn't like that one bit.
This is a paranormal romance, the first book in the “Cursed Alphas” series that should be read in order. I liked this book but it was a really slow build up in storytelling and though I liked the romance story, I wish there was more to that part of the story. Overall, a good story, worth the time to read, and I look forward to book two.
A very interesting read, couldn’t put it down once I started it. The cursed gargoyle looking for his fated mate was page turner for sure. I sure hope there will be more in the series.
That was wonderful! Set in different times of castles and royals. And stone gargoyles. I really loved the characters and the world the author created and, really, can’t wait for the next one! Very highly recommend!
This story started out good and then it turned a little odd. Stuff was explained but not entirely, left me with too many questions. Maybe they will be explained in other books in the series but I don't think I enjoyed this book enough to read them.
it was fine, just pretty boring and uneventful. the suspense wasn't really intriguing and both characters felt bland. pascal's kidnapping felt like a strange plot point too. and the mate thing didn't feel believable? there was no pining or aggression or anything LOL
I just couldn’t finish this. The characters had no dimension, the magical elements were so weird and unappealing, and the self loathing was depressing to read. I tried so hard to finish this but alas it was probably a bit overdue for the DNF pile.
I know this author for writing different fated mate pairs but the ending wasn't what I thought it to be. But we'll see what the next book has in store.
Why is this a mix of Huntchback of Nortradame and Beauty and the Beast? Im not mad at it. It is a very interesting read. Always love an accepting Alpha, even of himself.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, can a Gargoyle be beautiful?
I love gargoyles. This book is a unique take of the Gargoyle mythic. It has an orphanage, an evil headmaster, two valiant omegas, and a kind, cursed Gargoyle. But a young man's love and acceptance can break the curse. There is suspense, danger, greed, and loyalty. There is HEA. You are gonna love this book! I can't wait for the next one .
