A Laird in London was an amazing read.
These Scots characters are my weakness, you can feel their proud in their every word and thought, I loved them.

Angus MacDonald and his sister, Eilidh, go to London on a mission to buy back a property on the Hebrids island of Benbecula from an english Lord. Angus meets Lady Isabella Wood on a town park stroll, it seems a match made in heaven. They are comfortable in each other company, and soon enough they discover a deep connection and feelings for each other. But Angus isn't in town looking for a wife, and he perfectly knows how difficult is living on the remote island for a Lady used to all comforts that the town offer, will Isabella make him change his mind? Or their fate is already doomed?

It was such a pleasure to follow Angus and Isabella’s journey, from acquaintances to love interests.
Their story developps in a well written slow burn that keeps the reader glued to the book for hours without any break.

This was the second book in the series but it can easily be read as a standalone, however I recommend to read the first novel too because it's wonderful.

After months of trying and failing to purchase the adjoining estate of Lidistrome from Viscount Burtenshaw, Angus MacDonald, Laird of Broch Clachan, decides to go to see the man in London. The Englishman’s family was given the estate by the King after the battle of Culloden, but no one has ever visited the island or even maintained the property, which is falling into disrepair, yet they continue to collect and raise the rents, which has seen many families leaving, which is something that Angus cannot stand to see happening any longer. So Angus and his sister Eilidh set out for London, but soon find that without connections, London society is almost impossible to infiltrate, and without going about in society, his chances of contacting Lord Burtenshaw are almost nil. In an attempt to meet people, the siblings have been walking in the park, and thanks to a stampede of cows, they make the acquaintance of Miss Isabella Wood, when Angus saves her from being trampled.

Isabella is having a bad day, first, she is in London for the season and second, she must find a husband before the season ends, or her eldest brother and guardian, Viscount Burtenshaw will find one for her. But things begin to look up when she literally runs into a handsome Scotsman who saves her life. Days later, Isabella gets her middle brother Max to join her for a walk and they meet the MacDonald siblings again, and after a bit of wariness on Max’s part, a true friendship between them starts, but Eilidh warns Isabella that Angus is not in the market for a wife and if he were, he would marry a girl from the island. Isabella tries to take that advice to heart, but can’t seem to stop herself from falling for him. Angus feels the same for her but is sure that Isabella could never be happy in his remote section of Scotland and tries to ignore his feelings and stick to the task at hand – which surprisingly becomes easier when he learns that Isabella is Lord Burtenshaw’s sister. But when Isabella becomes betrothed and Lord Burtenshaw makes it clear that he will never sell Lidistrome to him, Angus admits defeat and makes plans to return to Scotland empty-handed and broken-hearted. Just when it looks like HEA is impossible, help comes from the last person you would expect, but will Angus be in time to claim Isabella, or are they destined to be star-crossed lovers?

This was a well-written, interesting romance with very likable characters. The book wasn’t quite what I was expecting and moved a lot slower than I would have liked. What I really like about this book was the “fish out of water” trope with Angus and Eilidh, it was a fresh twist and I appreciated that. I also enjoyed the inclusion of Beau Brummell, as well as the St. James herd, both were incorporated into the story perfectly. The book is a no-steam romance, with love scenes limited to kisses, and there is definitely a second romance brewing, which I am hoping will be the next book. Overall, it was a nice read, it was a little slow but still enjoyable.

Kinda boring, kinda slow moving, not holding my attention. The best part of the first book was the island setting and this is really missing that spark.

I was so fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this book, and am delighted I can honestly give it a five star review (without spoilers). I enjoyed a Laird for the Governess, and this, the second instalment in the Hebridean series did not disappoint. Catherine Tinley’s wonderfully elegant writing style delivers a happily ever after with subtle humour and nuanced intensity of feeling along the way. The world building is rich, and Catherine creates a cast of characters who do not detract from the main couple, but enrich the sense of place and time. Kilt-wearing Laird Angus and the independent Isabella are a fabulous couple, and I found myself rooting for both them, and the Island community back in Scotland. Filled with drama, conflict, humour - I loved A Laird in London. The third instalment is brilliantly set up, and oh I cannot wait!
Edited to add - I noticed another review has criticised the author’s use of the phrase unmentionables. Unmentionables actually referred to men’s breeches or trousers in the Regency, and only indicated undergarments from the Victorian era onwards so the author has not made an error, but in fact used historically accurate terminology - as she always does in her incredibly well researched novels.

After my last visit to the Hebridean home of the MacDonald family, I was left hoping that there would be further stories that would follow the rest of the family, my hopes were certainly answered as we discovered the exploits of the Laird in London. With their lands having been gifted away after the Highland Clearances, Angus MacDonald is determined to recover ownership of the land from the elusive landowner who hides behind his agent. With his sister by his side, Angus arrives in London and soon realises that in order to access the circles that the landlord moves in, he needs to join society and become a member of the Ton.
Isabella leads a double life; a member of London Society in the Spring and Summer, she would rather be with her brother enjoying life on their boat and getting her hands dirty. Sadly, her elder brother has different ideas and commands that during this season, she finds a husband and joins polite society.
This is a beautifully constructed story that highlights the giant differences between those born with a silver spoon and those without. The decadent attitude to buying clothing and gambling are symptoms of how incredibly fortunate those who made up London Society really were. While Angus and his sister were more than equal financially, it took some time to have their presence accepted, but once it was, they would become the talk of the town.
The internal battles that both Angus and Isabella fought were tantalising and I found myself willing them both to ignore what society dictated and throw caution to the wind. As their obvious attraction smouldered, it became a matter of when rather than how they would get together. This was a delicious tale of attraction overcoming the restrictions of what society demanded.
With Angus having a spirited sister and Isabella a strong and misunderstood brother there’s plenty of scope for a return to the Hebrides.
I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to see what Catherine writes next.

I was very pleased to be chosen for the blog tour of this book, so thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and Mills and Boon for this book.
We meet Angus MacDonald, he has come to London to try and persuade Viscount Burtenshaw to sell him the land adjoining his on the island of Benbecula, as it is being left to go to ruin. His sister Eilidh has persuaded him to let her accompany him and they both have to navigate all the societal hoops in London.
One morning during their walk in St James park they find a fresh from the cow milk stall, during their time there, there is a stampede and Angus saves a young lady from being trampled Lady Isabella Wood. This starts a friendship that makes the MacDonald’s feel less isolated and Isabella does her best to introduce them to London Society. However, Isabella has her own worries, her oldest brother and head of the family says that she has to marry and must pick someone from the London Season. The more time Isabella spends with Angus and Eilidh, the more her feelings for Angus grow and vice versa. Will the Laird leave with a wife?
I really loved the characters and was rooting for Angus and Isabella, the sparked together and supported each other. I liked Eilidh and she helped her brother as much as possible as well as enjoying her time in London. The authors attention to detail was good and I really appreciated that she used Gaelic at the right times and in the right context, it was also good that she gave a translation for those who are not Gaelic speakers (not everyone does that). I felt for Isabella and the pressure that was being put on her by her brother, he was not a nice character in many ways. The way he also treated his younger brother wasn’t nice either.
I look forward to the last book in this trilogy.

Angus and Isabella have huge obstacles to climb in order to find their way to a happy ever after in this second instalment of the Lairds of the Isles series.

Angus is in town with one goal in mind; to buy back land on his island from its English owner. Marriage especially to an English lady is out of the question. Things don't always go to plan; not only is the land not for sale but he finds himself head over heels for the lady he saved from a stampede in Hyde Park. He knows she is off limits but he can't help but look for her at the park every time he is there.

The beginning of Isabella and Angus' friendship is humorous, sweet and heartwarming. Both characters are extremely likeable as is Angus's sister Eilidh. You can't help but get pulled along with their hopes and dreams only for them to be dashed as reality hits. Isabella's brother, Freddy, won't countenance her marrying a Scot and Angus is determined to marry someone from the island who will be content to live in that remote and harsh environment.

Time is running out for both of them as Isabella is under immense pressure to choose a husband and to do so within a fortnight.

I was intrigued by the relationship between Eilidh and Isabella's other brother, Max. There were subtle hints of an attraction there and it will be interesting to see if their story continues in a further book in the series.

A Laird in London concludes in a satisfying and uplifting way. Isabella manages to stand up for herself and a solution is found to all the obstacles standing in their way.

A lovely read guaranteed to put a smile on your face as you turn the pages.

Lady Isabella Wood has arrived in London after being given an ultimatum by her older brother that she must find her husband. Angus has also newly arrived in London in the hope to meet the person who owns land near his property so that he can reclaim the same. Angus is not looking for a wife that is until he meets Isabella. Their meeting is memorable and neither Isabella or Angus can forget the other until it transpires that the land that Angus is trying to obtain is connected to Isabella’s family.

This is the second book in the Lairds of the Isles series. The first book is A Laird for the Governess which is a book I adored so I was looking forward to reading the second in the series and meeting some new characters. Having read this book I think I loved it as much as the first.

I really loved the storyline and the writing style because it felt like I was watching a regency tv series/film. I think one of my favourite scenes was when Angus saved Isabella from the cattle stampede. It was the perfect meeting, dramatic and romantic all at the same time. When they meet it’s clear that Angus and Isabella like each other and are very curious to learn more about the other. I thought it was really cute when Angus and Isabella would attend events and would be looking out for each other so they could have another chance meeting.

As characters Angus and Isabelle have so much in common. Neither of them wants to be in London, part of London society or part of the Ton. The impression I got from both Angus and Isabella is that the idea of London society is very alien to them and it’s a place where they do not feel comfortable or part of. Neither of them wants to be part of a society where they have to behave in a certain way and cannot be themselves. But due to their circumstances they have to try and conform. For Angus he hopes that becoming temporarily part of London society he can be directly introduced to the owner of the land he is trying to purchase and for Isabella she has been told in no uncertain terms by her brother that she is now of a marriageable age and she has to find her husband otherwise one will be chosen for her. Isabella is definitely a character after my own heart. She knows that she has to behave in a certain way but she has no airs and graces about her rather she treats everyone equally regardless of their status and she’s happy with her normal dresses rather than the fancy ones she has to wear. There was an interesting contrast between how each brother treated their younger sisters. In Freddy’s case, he sets out clearly his expectations of Isabella i.e that she must find a husband. Whereas Angus respects his sisters decision and leaves whether she wants to marry or not to her. He makes it clear that whatever decision she makes he will support.

A regency romance that will sweep you off your feet.

Another fab read from Catherine Tinley.
I was really looking forward to reading this book after reading the first in Catherine’s ‘Lairds of the Isles’ miniseries and falling in love with the Hebridean landscapes and dashing Lairds up there. As much as I love Catherine’s regency romances, the Lairds series adds a new dimension, away from the ballrooms of London.
This book did not disappoint one bit. Although we are set against the background of the London Season, the Laird and his sister navigating London society provides just the twist that keeps a book like this from being ‘just another regency romance’
Excellent stuff and I can’t wait for book 3 in this mini series!

I loved the first book in the ‘Lairds of the Isles’ series, A Laird for the Governess, and reading A Laird in London seriously did not disappoint! I loved the way in which Angus and Isabella first met, which gave him and his sister Eilidh their first introduction to London society, or the Ton. There was an instant connection between them, and before long Isabella’s brother Max was part of their friendship group.

Isabella was aware that her older brother Freddy would never agree to her marrying a Scot, but the available men who were interested in her were all pretty detestable. I really felt for Isabella, who was a strong character who was happiest when sailing, and had no particular desire to marry in any event. However, as she befriended Angus and Eilidh she found herself being more interested in her clothes, which was quite a funny juxtaposition with her true nature and personality.

Angus was so lovely, but blinded to the possibility that a member of the Ton might be happy to move to the Scottish isles, and Isabella could not imagine leaving her family, which caused some ups and downs with the course of true love. I loved the fact that Max and Isabella were so different to Freddy, who as Lord Burtenshaw took his responsibilities a little too seriously.

I loved the way in which the Scottish siblings were swiftly accepted into the right circles within society, and I particularly loved the addition of Beau Brummell, who seemed rather more reserved than I would have expected, but who opened every door to Angus.

This delightful romance between a down to earth heroine, and a handsome kilted Laird, was so unusual in a London society setting that I wanted to hop in a carriage and head to Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides myself! I am so excited to read the next book in the series, A Laird for the Highland Lady, which I believe will be Max and Eilidh’s story.

Now, who can refuse a book with an extremely dishy man on the cover? Certainly not me, so I was thrilled to get the chance to check this one out.

This is the second installment in the Hebridean series. I have not read the first book but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of this one. This is a book that I can only describe as a feel good read with a satisfying and happy ending.

The characters were written well and fitted into the plot well, there weren’t any random characters thrown in that seemed pointless, everyone had a purpose which added to the richness and depth of the story.

Isabella and Angus are the main focus here and I enjoyed walking with them through their ups and down as they were trying to navigate their feelings. The relationship between these two characters was a little bit of a slow burn but I quite liked that, there was plenty going on to keep me interested and invested in the story.

This is not my usual genre, in fact it falls into a genre that I generally don’t get on with at all, but I did enjoy this one so much more than I expected!
Could this be a sign?

Angus and his sister come to London to purchase property that lapsed from the family to an English landlord who is choking the land with his raising rents.
Angus immediately meets, saves, and is charmed by a female he does not know is related to the said landlord. A lot of the story is anticipating when these two will realize they are connected. The difficulty Angus and his sister have in making inroads into the Ton and meeting the landlord, Isabella's boorish brother, seem excessive, but I liked the story and was glad the brother and sister were able to impress the right people to be accepted for their own worth, rather than their luck at birth.
I liked the first book in this series and this one is charming also. I am looking forward to the feisty sister's story next.

I absolutely loved the main characters Isabella and Angus and watching their relationship develop This book was full of humour, strong women and those who do their ‘duty’. The men in the story were either honest and respectable, or members of the ‘ton’ who were pompous and knew best. I liked the way the characters all were connected and interacted with each other. Angus MacDonald and his sister come down to London to try and convince Freddy Burtenshaw to sell land in Scotland that once belonged to their family. Freddy is pompous and very unreasonable, whereas his siblings Max and Isabella are the opposite and become friends with the MacDonald’s. There is an instant attraction between Isabella and Angus but can anything come of it?

Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Racism towards non-English people
• Forced marriage
Characters
Isabella is the youngest child and only girl in the Burtenshaw family and because of that, she’s wild, confident and knows what she would like from her life. The problem is, as a woman in regency times, her rights and options are limited and generally controlled by her eldest brother, the head of the Burtenshaw family.
Angus is the head of his family, and desperate to get adjoining lands back to improve the quality of his people’s lives. While he’s a confident and take-charge leader in Scotland, he’s a different man when he gets to London. While still confident and proud of his heritage, he’s also restrained and cautious to ensure the success of his trip to London.
Storyline
Angus must travel to London to try and meet with the Lord who owns the neighbouring lands in order to try and purchase them. His sole aim is to procure the lands and return to Scotland as quickly as possible. At the same time, Isabella is forced to attend the London season in order to find a husband.
From an accidental meeting, Isabella and Angus are drawn to each other in ways they can’t explain, and they need to navigate it and their own individual goals for the season.
Overall Thoughts
This was such a fun read and gave me a few Outlander vibes with the descriptions of the handsome Scottish Laird. His brave actions, consistent persistence to achieve his goal but also the way he navigated his feelings for Isabella was so enjoyable to read.
Isabella on the other hand had very modern thoughts for a woman, which given Catherine Tinley’s style isn’t surprising, and it made me wonder what else she might include in the book. One of those thoughts actually had me wondering and REALLY hoping she’d do it, but she didn’t.
For a book I practically binged in my last few days of work before Christmas, this definitely rated up there for me!

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will he let his biased view of the ton keep him apart from the woman who makes his heart sing…

After the first book, this one has a complete change of scenery as it is this time the Scots who visit England.
Angus, and his sister, have traveled to London in the hope to buy off a land they were deprived off when Scotland was fighting England.
But to meet the man holding the deed of their ancestors land, they must mingle with ton’s members. And adapt to their way of living.
Isabella is living her last moments of relative freedom as she must meet her brother’s demands to choose a spouse or the choice will be made for her. She does not like the idle life of her peers but like most of the women of her world, she does not know how to break the walls caging her.

Both meet under unexpected circumstances and are instantly drown to one another, yet so much seems to separate them, like he fears the wildness of his place is no fit for a london Miss or she being the sister of the man who refuses to entertain the mere idea of giving back the land Angus is seeking even for money.

Like the previous book, there is no real villains, some lechers on the way but the real obstacle is themselves. Mostly Angus, very set on his prejudiced idea that an English Miss would not done well in the wild of the highlands.
4 stars for this sweet story of two worlds colliding to bring out the best of the two.

I am now very curious about Max’s tale, Isabella’s brother.

I am a big fan of Ms. Tinley's Regency romances for a few years now because of her strong heroines and tormented heroes, but I felt this book fell short. In fact, I was more interested in the secondary characters.

Lady Isabella Wood's fate is in her pompous elder brother's hands as he forces her to find a suitable husband or he will. Isabella prefers sailing to dancing, she prefers running to walking, and she prefers her freedom to society's demands. But she was raised to "follow the strictures of duty and tradition". Her attraction to her new friend Laird Angus MacDonald is hopeless because he is not there to hunt for a wife.

Angus MacDonald and his sister Eilidh are subjecting themselves to English judgment and disdain in order to convince Lord Burtenshaw to sell him the land that belongs to Angus's people. As the Laird Laird of Broch Clachan and a native of the island of Benbecula off the coast of Scotland, it is Angus's duty to do everything in his power to get the land back from the money-grabbing English who sends the rent-collectors for money and goods from a land and estate left to ruin. But Angus did not know the challenge he would face not only with the formidable and critical Lord Burtenshaw, but also with his beautiful and distracting sister, Lady Isabella.

Isabella and Angus are instantly attracted to each other, but I feel their story is slow and overshadowed by Max and Eilidh's intriguing attraction. I felt that Isabella and Angus didn't try as hard as they should have. Angus didn't think Isabella would survive in his faraway home and Isabella, as rebellious as she was, hung on to the duties she abhorred. Therefore, I didn't think the main characters were as strong as I thought they could be. The final moments when Angus swoops in to save the day was my favorite part, but it took too long to get there.

The supporting characters are what made this story interesting. As I said before Max and Eilidh steal the show and I can't wait for their story. Prudence, Lord Burtenshaw's staid and austere wife really seems to come through at the end and I admire her for that considering her unexciting and tolerable life with a pompous ass.

Overall, the story was a little slow and the main characters were a bit boring, but they stepped it up at the end. If you like fish-out-of-water tropes, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Tinley for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Award-winning author Catherine Tinley continues her charming Lairds of the Isles series with the second enchanting installment, A Laird in London.

Angus MacDonald has left his remote home in the Hebrides and come to London to reclaim land that is rightfully his. The ballrooms of the Ton are far removed from the wildness of Scotland and Angus cannot wait to leave the hustle and bustle of the capital behind and return back home. However, could Lady Isabella Wood give him a reason to stick around? Their first encounter is far from promising as Angus rescues Isabella from a cattle stampede that could have killed her. Yet, a spark of attraction ignites between the two of them the very second they clap eyes on one another. Are Angus and Isabella willing to see where this attraction will take them?

Isabella is in desperate need of a husband. She must marry this Season and she cannot allow herself to let anyone distract her from her quest to make a suitable match. Strong, handsome and intelligent, Angus seems like the perfect candidate for a husband. However, he has made it perfectly clear that matrimony is the very last thing on his mind. And besides, with his life in the Hebrides and hers in England, Isabella knows that she is fooling herself to even dare contemplate the thought of a future with Angus – so why can’t she stop wishing that things could be different for the two of them?

Despite of their very best intentions, Angus and Isabella find themselves falling head over heels in love with one another. Will they manage to find a way to be together for the rest of their lives? Or are they about to let this chance at happiness slip through their fingers?

Catherine Tinley’s A Laird in London is the latest tender, poignant and emotional Regency tale from this very accomplished writer of historical romance. Brimming with atmosphere and brilliantly rendered period detail, A Laird in London is a touching and dramatic love story that will tug at the heartstrings and leave readers with a tear in their eye and a smile on their face.

Beautifully written, wonderfully evocative and a joy from beginning to end, A Laird in London is the latest stellar Regency romance from Catherine Tinley.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.

Angus MacDonald has left his home on the remote Scottish island of Benbecula in order to find Lord Burtenshaw, and seek out the property stolen from his people. With his sister Eilidh in tow for the Season, they hope that they will be able to break into society, and gain entry into Burtenshaw's circle. However, they soon realise that the lord is a stickler for high society, and abhors anything Scottish. Luckily, though, his younger brother and sister, Max and Isabella, are warm and welcoming, and soon the quartet are as thick as thieves. But where Isabella knows that she must marry by the end of the season, on express orders of her brother, Angus has no intention of marrying anytime soon, no matter how strongly he cares for Isabella.

When I read the first book in this series, I was blown away by the characters, and jumped at the opportunity to read book 2. A Laird in London was the perfect mix of London society, and Scottish friendship. Angus and Isabella's connection was true, and though their courtship was fraught with drama, I was overjoyed with how it ended. Lord Burtenshaw was a pompous twit, and I don't really understand how he had siblings as caring as Max and Isabella. The last few chapters kept me on my toes, and I'm dying to read A Laird for the Highland Lady, and seeing Max and Eilidh find happiness. A great addition to the Lairds of the Isles series!

With some feisty ladies leading their men a sorry dance,
This is a fun historical romance.
Resistance is futile, love will find a way
And anyone objecting will soon have to pay!

This Hebridean island Laird is coming to London town
Hoping to reclaim land taken and passed on by the crown.
He's bringing his sister to help in his quest
Not thinking of romance, balls and the rest!

However, a cattle stampede has other consequences, too,
Coming to rescue Lady Isabella Wood is what he'll do.
This introduction isn't quite usual, it is true
But with his sister there befriending is what they'll do.

He's not looking for a wife, but Isabella must find a husband soon
Or her brother will find one for her and that would be her doom.
Their mutual attraction has no where it can go
Ignoring it completely is what they should do, but oh!!

What a lovely read this story proved to be
With the ladies proving themselves so strong as you'll see.
Mistakes and misjudgements make you think things are lost
But sometimes these things prove to have hidden costs!

A brilliant ending, had me grinning from ear to ear,
As everything eventually became clear.
I really hope we return to visit the Laird and family some day
As I'm sure this author has more about them all to say!

For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

Angus MacDonald has come to London on a special mission - to buy back an estate near his home in the Hebrides from the English family it was given to many years past. He brings with him his sister Eilidh and they attempt to work their way into the 'ton' to have an opportunity to speak with the current owner of that estate, Lord Burtenshaw. On the journey to that end goal, Angus saves Isabella Wood from a cattle stampede at a London park. Angus is immediately taken with Isabella and she with him, but he's for Scotland as soon as his business is over with, and doesn't think a 'ton' lady like Isabella would ever want to live in the Hebrides.

Isabella Wood must marry before the end of the season, her brother Freddie has commanded. The biggest problem is that none of her suitors interest her. She is only interested in the one man she cannot seem to have - Angus McDonald. Despite declaring their feelings for each other, and their regrets that they can't be together, their feelings still simmer underneath the surface as they meet frequently at social gatherings.

When Isabella's brother Freddie makes a most forceful move to get Isabella married off, will Angus finally step forward, despite his doubts that he could ever make her happy?

Angus and his sister have arrived in London, travelling from Scotland to claim back the land belonging to his family.

But when Lord Burtenshaw refuses to part with it Angus must show himself in the high society of London.

It's not long before they befriend Isabella and her brother Max. But while the love of the heart cannot be helped Angus must continue to focus on business; However things get worse when he finds out Isabella is the Lord's sister.

This novel is split between two main characters' points of view; which was a great way to show the two perspectives throughout the narrative.

I love the character of Isabella who is strong-willed and continues to find her voice throughout the novel; also inspiring other characters along the way.

Angus is every female's dream while Lord Burtenshaw is every female's nightmare including who he chooses to associate with; the opposites that Tinley writes in her characters show great contrast throughout the novel, keeping the reader engaged and always rooting for the hero and heroine.

This was a great read of historical romance depicting the lack of independence in female society during this period, how women were wanting to break free and how money, family lineage and gender are meant to rule all.

This is the story of Angus and Isabella, which is told over the course of 17 Chapters + an Epilogue. Their story is very much a will they won't they situation. The reader is constantly kept on their toes as to whether this pairing can find a way to a possible shared future.
Throughout this book the point of view switches back and forth between the two leads. This is brilliant for this storyline as it really gives the readers a chance to watch these characters feelings develop. From their first meeting all the way to the end of the book, these point of view switches mean that readers are able to get a full picture.
Not only do these main characters have great chemistry but some of the background characters do as well. One pair in particular is Isabella's brother Max and Angus's sister Eilidh. Although this pairing are background characters in this book, readers are given enough information and hints to keep them guessing as to how these two feel. Fingers crossed this pairing gets their own book in the future.
Overall I enjoyed this book immensely and love that it is the second book in the 'Laird of the Isles' series. I can't wait for possibly a new book in this series or even by this author.

A Laird in London by Catherine Tinley
(Mills & Boon Historical) (Lairds of the Isles, Book 2)
There's a new Laird in town
Will he leave with a wife?
Angus MacDonald has just arrived in London to reclaim his land when he rescues Lady Isabella Wood from a cattle stampede! Their instant attraction is undeniable, but Isabella must wed this Season, and Angus isn't looking for a bride. His wild Hebridean home is a world away from London Society, so Isabella is entirely out-of-bounds.
Even if their connection is unlike anything he's felt before.
A Laird in London is an easy read that can be read as a stand-alone, but I would read a Laird for the Governess to set the record straight.
I want to thank Publishers Mills & Boon Historical author Catherine Tinley and Rachel's Random Resources for a tour invite and a copy to read and review.

A Laird in London by Catherine Tinley

Angus MacDonald has one goal in mind - to reacquire his family lands - he has no wish to find an English bride. An English rose would wither in the harsh Scottish climate.
Isabella is a hardy English rose. She does not wish to marry someone of her brother's choosing, but she is running out of time. How can she change her brother's mind when he is her legal guardian and has signed her life away?
Despite their mutual attraction, Angus refuses to accept Isabella would make him a suitable bride, but when he discovers she is betrothed to someone infinitely more unsuitable, he sets out to rescue her.
Will he stop the wedding in time?

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Catherine Tinley - A laird in London

Thank you so much Catherine Tinley, Harlequin and Rachel’s random resources for gifting me a paperback copy of 'A laird in London in exchange for an honest review.
I love a regency book set in the Ton with all the social events and rules that need to be followed add in to the mix a Scottish Laird trying to buy back lost lands and a lust for a Lady who is fully off-limits I was in my element. I devoured this book and wished to be a part of that world. Bridgerton fans will enjoy this book.

The second book in the Lairds of the Isles series features Angus and his sister Eilidh who brave the Ton in an attempt to secure the future of their neighbouring tenants. Angus' meeting with Isabelle is dramatic, and their attraction is life-changing. Although there are many conflicts to their happiness, the reader always hopes they will find happiness together. The story highlights the problems women faced in Regency times. Vibrant characters bring the story to life. The romance is gentle, but the emotion is vividly portrayed, making this a lovely romantic read.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

A mediocre novel about a Scotsman and his sister going to London to buy some land and the second son and his sister with whom they closely bond plus the degenerate elder prejudiced brother who refuses to sell the land. The characters are rather stiff and unnatural, too closely defined by rules rather than by personality. I found myself laughing unkindly at the author’s descriptive lapse when she describes a prospective groom at the altar of the church with his large belly looming over the top of his unmentionables. Really? The bride would not have been able to see that and the groom would scarcely be unclothed in church on his wedding day. Don’t worry, the bride saved herself from such an ignominious fate. Okay, but not the first book I’d recommend from a TBR pile.

I'm new to Regency Romance but I loved the feminist take in this story. I really liked Isabella and found myself rooting for her so was delighted with how the ending panned out. As for the hero of the story, I can't imagine how anyone wouldn't fall for Angus. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see how things develop for Max and Eilidh as I got really hooked into their story too. Catherine Tinley really makes you care about her characters and they are wonderfully drawn. A real page-turner and a thoroughly satisfying read.

Angus MacDonald and his sister arrive in London to try to buy the neighbouring estate on Benbecula Isle, to save it from an absentee landlord. Said landlord has lively sister Lady Isabella Wood. Attraction ensues but Angus faffs around until Isabella almost gets married to a Fate Worse Than Death.

Half way through there is a gorgeous description of the feeling of being in love: the strange near-nausea, like fear but not being afraid of him.
