Mirabelle’s first school day is here… but will she be able to stay on the good path or will she do something naughty?

I was so excited to see this book in the library, I just love the series (and Isadora). Mirabelle is a naughty character, but she is also so much fun, plus, you can clearly see that she is trying… but sometimes you just got to release the naughty energy.

In this one we get a day at Witch School and boy did I want to go as well! Flying lessons, potion making, and more. Just the lunch part I am worried about. Just like Mirabelle… well the food is just not for us. XD I had such a laugh during potion class, I knew right from the bat what would happen and I found myself talking to the pages, yes, I know they cannot hear me. XD And then lunch happened (and the whodunnit for that had me in stitches, that is one way to teach someone a lesson). Lastly, flying practice. This time I was just shaking my head. I get it girl, you want to fly and yes you are amazing at it… but maybe just listen next time? I was proud of MIrabelle and her friend that they were honest and that they apologised. That is also why I love Mirabelle’s character so much. Yes, she is naughty, but she does realise that it isn’t always a good thing. She realises fast that she did something wrong and owns up to it. A lot of naughty characters just don’t care, but she does.

I loved seeing her family again and loved seeing her best friend. Also happy that her little dragon is there, too!

I do still think that it is weird that apparently so little witches are naughty or mischievous. Or they are really good at hiding?

I am utterly confused though. I am not sure what the translator thought and why they thought it was a good idea. But when I was searching for the English title of this book so I could use it for my review I was just scratching my head. In Dutch the book is called Mirabelle heeft een slechte dag. In English the book is called Mirabelle breaks the rules WHEREAS the third book is called Mirabelle has a bad day (Mirabelle heeft een slechte dag). Why?? Did they get the wrong title? The wrong everything? We are way behind on the releases so it isn’t as if you don’t know what the third book is. Not to mention that you could easily translate the second book to Mirabelle breekt de regels.

I did enjoy the story though, it was plenty of fun and I did feel for Mirabelle as she was trying her best. She is just so witchy that she cannot stop being naughty. I cannot wait to read the next book.. and see what Dutch title they will think of for that one.

2.5/5 (rounded up because of lovely bonus bits at the end including a quiz and a young baker friendly recipe!)
A cute early chapter book suitable for developing readers aged 6+ about a mischievous young girl who finds herself in lots of trouble on her first day back at school. A lovely read for fans of the Idadora Moon series with a similar format and illustration style perfect for building reading confidence!

It’s a new semester at witch school and Mirabelle is trying her hardest to change and be good, listen to the rules and not get into trouble. On her first day of trying things don’t go the way she planned as trouble surrounds her.

Poor Mirabelle, she really wanted to be good but things just kept going wrong and she kept getting into trouble. I actually felt so sad for her she didn’t want to be causing trouble or being naughty it just kept happening. Though it was funny seeing all the classes hairs growing so long all round them, what a funny potion Carlotta gave her.

I thought it was perfect and funny that her friend Carlotta was a root cause to some of this mayhem and she like Mirabelle has trouble following her around. Their friendship was sweet though that they thought of each other and wanted to help each other even if it got them into trouble to do so.

I really liked this book it was really cute, with the sweet illustrations with hints of purple everywhere. I really enjoyed it, this series is so much fun to read and Mirabelle alway has something happening around her to entertain you.

Mirabelle loves to pull a prank, but when she decides to behave herself in school, things go - well, the same way as normal, to be honest. After hurting her classmates in potions class and getting soaked in flying class, is there any point in trying to obey the rules?

Like Isadora, Mirabelle is half-and-half; she is half witch, half fairy, and attends a witch school. The author draws in details with a light hand, like the preferred diets of each of her parents. Her various mishaps are obvious; kids will enjoy gasping and telling her not to do what she's doing.

There's also a good lesson buried in there; that rules might be annoying and seem unfair, but there's usually a good reason behind them. It could lead into some good discussions for children about rules at school or at home and what the reasons for them might be. There's also some great craft activities at the back of the book!

The illustrations are great, giving a lot in only four colours. I love Violet, Mirabelle's dragon familiar. There's plenty to look at here.
This is a great story and will be very popular.

This is another children's book suitable reading age of 6-10. This is book two in the series but reads fine as a Standalone. Another one I can pass down to my daughter.

Meet Mirabelle. Half witch. Half fairy. Very naughty. She has a pet dragon named Violet. It makes for a funny read. 100 pages long. At the start of the book we get an introduction to all the characters and a family tree. At the end of book you get a sneaky look into the next book, a wordsearch, a cooking recipe and a quiz. So there is loads within this book including the story.

The stories itself is set mostly in her witch school where two lessons go horribly wrong. Mirabelle vows to listen to rules and behave from now on but will she? Enjoyable read. Beautifully illustrated throughout. Magical. Highly recommend. 4 stars.

This is a cute early chapter book about a girl who's half witch (mum) and half fairy (dad). Has a sweet moral (rules are there for a reason) as well as other nice messages (pranks have consequences, good friendship, cute family dynamics). The only downside is the witch elements which isn't my favourite thing for younger kids. She goes to a witch school, rides a broomstick and makes potions.

This was an ok girly book, but meh - daughter and I read these out of order and they are getting pretty boring for me - daughter is still somewhat enjoying them, so i guess that's a good sign. They all sound pretty much the same to me, though - the author is putting very little creativity into it.

My 5 year old loves this book but it’s full of spelling and grammatical errors, honestly it’s not such a long book to proof read! I also find it far too short, but it is unique and a fun story.
