3 1/2 " Mercurial much?"

Whew! This was a rockstar/ second chance/ surprise baby story with a lot of heart and A Lot of heat. This one kind of brought out the rage in me. Why? Bren.

Bren was a possesive mercurial donkey's behind that made his own bed but then wasn't sure he wanted to lie in it. This dude switched moods as quick as turning a light switch.

Sofia was a total badd ass that owned her own feelings, body, and all her decisions. Eventhough I didn't like some of her choices, I respected her knowing her mind. I absolutely fell hard for her almost from the beginning.

The main character in the next book up in the series is a side character I really liked. So I'm intrigued for sure. Happy reading!

TW: alcohol abuse, mentions of addiction

To be frank, I have no idea where I found this book, but it's been sitting in my kindle unlimited library for quite some time. This was a wild ride. I honestly felt like I was reading a soap opera and I really enjoyed it.

We're given a Latinx bisexual lead who is so confident and sure of her decisions, her body/looks, and her sexuality; it was honestly so refreshing. And then we were given a possessive, abrasive yet sweet German man, who absolutely knows what he wants, then when the two of these stubborn and very-sure-of-what-they-want-for-their-futures characters meet, the sparks and tension just flies off the pages.

This book also highlighted some things that I wish were more normalized: non-monogamy & not wanting to get married.

This was dramatic, angsty, quite steamy, and full of heart.

My only caveat was that I found that Bren was doing the majority of the compromising in their relationship. I would have liked to have seen Sofia compromise more, but then again, maybe some of the dramatic-ness wouldn't have come through.

(Also hi this is me silently begging for a Fritz book ty)

Ofelia Martinez is a new favorite to read! Her stories have become my new obsession! I am in love with Hiding in the Smoke. Sofia and Bren were so hot together. This story had me hooked from the start. Definitely a page turner for me and the story just kept getting better & better. It was a thrilling start to the Industrial November on Tour Series.
Sofia, a strong, independent, confident, successful business owner was a wonderful heroine and the perfect match for Brenner Reindhart, the lead singer of Industrial November. Bren was your typical rockstar who was brought to his knees by someone who didn’t care who he was. Their first meeting was priceless! Sofia ignores him to answer a text and he is both intrigued and annoyed by the fact she is not throwing herself at his feet. It was wonderful to see Bren be brought back down to earth by the sassy, independent Sofia. Their relationship was super steamy and passionate. They had a lot of ups and downs but always found their way back to each other.
This story was super steamy filled a sexy possessive hero, a witty confident heroine and few fun surprises that will make you swoon, melt and smile. If you love an entertaining, addictive rockstar romance, then this is the book for you. So excited to read the next book in this series and to find out who Fritz, Adrian, and Karl end up with.

What can I say except that I absolutely loved this book. This is book one of The Industrial November on Tour Series and Ofelia Martinez did not disappoint. This is a spinoff from the Heartland Metro Hospital series.

Sofia is a bar owner in Kansas City who happens to go to an Industrial November concert, under protest and happens to meet the sexy lead singer Bren Reindhart. At first their personalities seem to clash but as the story progresses so do their feelings for each other .

This book was fantastic and I had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait for book two! I highly recommend!

It's that time of year when finding something a little steamy to read helps keep you warm at night. Hiding in Smoke by Ofelia Martinez is a fun and erotic read that is sure to stoke the flames! It's a sensual romance with a leading lady that knows what she wants in life but is afraid of commitment. Sofia has rules...

One night.
No cuddling.
No sleepovers.

The problem is, those rules don't seem to apply to rock star Bren. Sofia soon discovers one night won't be enough.

I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book, but it was exactly what I needed when I read it.

This is a rockstar romance done right. It is emotional without being too angsty. Bren & Sophia are both STRONG characters. She owns her own bar and he is the lead singer for the world famous metal band Industrial November. Bren is the epitome of a possessive alphahole and Sofia constantly calls him on his crap. The push and pull between these two leads to some fantastic chemistry and explosive fights. They push past some uncomfortable limits to give each other things that they need, but they differ in a fundamental life goal and it becomes the main source of conflict. (That was a really wordy sentence without saying much, but I don't want to spoil this book because I want everyone to read it!)

I rooted for Bren and Sofia the whole time and I never felt too annoyed with either one of them even when they were being stupid. The conflict felt believable and in line with the personalities of both characters. I loved this book and will be immediately diving into the rest of the series.

*Note: This book is written in 1st Person Dual POV. Each chapter is in either Bren or Sofia's POV and there is one font for Sofia (which looks like my regular Kindle font) and one font for Bren (which looks like a bold version of my regular Kindle font). This annoyed me at first, but I didn't mind the further I got into the book. It actually helped if I was interrupted mid-chapter.

ARC review

Ofelia never disappoints with her books. I know when I pick up one of her books to make sure I have enough time to finish it in one sitting. This book was no exception!

Sofia is a single bar owner who goes to a concert with a friend and fights with the lead singer, only to end up changing her way of life to try something new with the rockstar.

Bren is the lead singer, and finally meets a woman that doesn't care about his name or fortune and doesn't get impressed with his lifestyle, but he wants a chance to sweep her off her feet because he can't get her out of his head.

Rockstars rock

Ugh I hate coming up with review titles. Anyway this was a friend recommended read and I love that my book friends clearly have amazing taste. This book was HOT!! It was also well written and entertaining. The pacing is slow even though the romance isn’t really slow burn. Side note: I love this cover so much. This was a new to me author and I’m excited to see what more she has to offer.

So steamy that i could not sit still; this book has hot steamy romance with just about every couple pages that you turn. The fact that a one night stand turned into a lifetime together is amazing. I recommend this book for any woman that needs that little imagination.

Ofelia Martinez takes us back to Kansas City, home to her lovable medical characters from Heartland Metro and their spirited best friend and bar owner, Sofia Ocampo. Sofia gets a chance meeting with Bren Reinhardt, lead singer of Industrial November, when her friend Mandy wins concert tickets and backstage passes. Bren spotted Sofia dancing in the front row during the performance and sparks fly immediately.

Despite the narrative that these two share a sizzling sexual chemistry, the opening is hampered by evidence to the contrary. Their first twenty-four hours together are marked by Bren being offended by Sofia’s texting, mistaking her for a “lowly” waitress, and expressing distaste for her promiscuous “more rock star than mine” lifestyle. For her part, Sofia finds Bren to be arrogant, snobbish, judgmental and jealous, this last one raising her hackles because she refuses to be a “possession” and doesn’t wish to be with any man for longer term. “One night only, no repeats, no sleeping over.” Those are her rules.

I’ll admit that I had difficulty connecting with these two. I put the book down frequently in the first third, because I couldn’t see their motivation to become more than what they started with. Finally, in the middle, there was some momentum and steamier times! Which came to a screeching halt when Bren and Sofia appeared to arrive at a deal-breaker scenario. Honestly, what follows afterwards eloquently illustrates how different their perspectives really have been all along. Even when Bren professes to be willing to “do anything” to please Sofia, including fulfilling her adventurous fantasies, he is unable to face the potential consequences of their actions. And, Sofia’s own views on commitment waver with ambiguity almost until the end.

Overall, this unlikely pair reach a pleasing conclusion. A low simmer with interludes of flame.

I’m honoured to have received a complementary copy for review and am sharing my honest opinion.

I tried to like Sofia. I really did. I really wanted to support her brazen, I am woman hear me roar attitude but ugh, no she was more annoying than unique. And Bren was just a meat head.

Maybe it was the writing style. It was really simple and straightforward. No build ups, no sexual tension. Just insta attraction/love and wham bam banging.

Fav Quote:
“I’m sorry. I thought that was obvious. I’m here to get you back.” I smile wickedly at her.

This is the first book in the series , and the first I have read by this author. This is not a genre I usually read but it was very well written and kept me wanting to read on.

In this book we have Sofia and Bren , he is a hot rockstar and she is a bar owner... they might not seem like the most likely pairing but things soon start to get steamy between them. I was rooting for Bren the whole book to be able to find happiness , you are willing Sofia to take the chance. The book is hard to put down as things start to heat up!

There are some trigger warnings from the author as it is high-steam , contains adult content with some taboo elements that aren't suitable for all readers.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the first book in the Industrial November on Tour series.
Brenner Reindhart is the lead singer of Industrial November. He is the old man of the group and is tired of the partying. He's ready to settle down and start a family.
Sofia is the owner of La Oficina. A small local bar. It's her life. She makes enough to support herself and her family back in Mexico. She only wants one night stands.
When Bren and Sofia have their one night. She quickly ushers him out of her house. Bren not having ever been thrown out knows he's met his match and can't wait to show her just how amazing they can be together.
This was my fist book by this author and I really enjoyed it and can't wait for more of this series.

Love Sofia she’s so bad ass, such a boss bitch. She can for sure get it.
Bren had his ups and downs, but ultimately goes to show how thoroughly he was written. It wasn’t one magical moment to make him a cookie cutter hero, more so how someone finds it in them to be better for the one they love!
Super steamy, hilarious friendship banter. So so good!

In the beginning, I couldn't separate the characters from each other. I felt like they all had the same voice. The sex scenes are adequately steamy for sure!!!! However, there are typos which I hate to see in books 😔 I cried a couple times, the story itself is great!

The beginning as really good I was enjoying it until I didn’t. Getting to half the book the writing just felt slow paced and nothing grabbed my attention even the characters got so annoying and the decisions they made were Aggravating at most. Eh

Ofelia is becoming one of my favorite romance authors! She took one of my least favorite stripes and made me enjoy it! The fmc is strong and independent and needs no man to help her! I love how Ofelia's characters transfer from one book to another. It makes for such a cohesive world!

Ofelia has done it again. I think this is my favorite book of hers so far! Filled with love, hate, heartbreak and steamy romance, you won’t regret buying it!

Bren is a rock god who doesn’t know how to control his temper and has lost himself to the high life. He definitely needs a reality check. But when he finds the one, he finds himself struggling on how to keep her and not pushing her away.

Sofia is a strong, beautiful and independent woman who doesn’t do relationships or a repeat sexual encounter. When she meets the sexy rock god, she finds all her rules flying out the window. But when an ultimatum comes her way will it be what breaks this couple or will it be the missing piece to their puzzle?

After the book you can get an extended epilogue and it is so worth it! I can’t wait to see what else Ofelia has hiding up that artistic writing sleeve of hers! I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving a free copy.

I really loved this book. Bren and Sophia are the MOST stubborn muleheaded people! They keep getting in the way of their relationship. I loved the plot. It flowed smoothly throughout. The storyline and characters were well developed and easily relatable. There were times where Sophia was too independent and I didn’t fully understand the reasoning behind some of her decisions. I was glad Bren stood up for himself despite the heartache it caused. He did seem to be the one doing most of the compromising. I didn’t that was fair. Their chemistry was explosive, hot and steamy! I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

This is my third book I’ve read from Ofelia and I think it’s my favorite. It’s a rockstar secret baby romance. I love how the characters stay true to themselves. Also Ofelia’s characters are mainly Latino based which is another unique thing I like. One thing I didn’t like was a reference to the guy being ugly. I think it would’ve just been better to say not traditionally handsome only.

Hiding in the Smoke

Arc review

🌟🌟🌟🌟💫/5

This has truly been an amazing, heartwarming and emotional rockstar romance story that I couldn’t put it down.

Sofia doesn’t believe in love or happily ever after and her one night stands and no repeats are good enough for her. Running a bar keeps her busy enough that she doesn’t have any time for her social life and this is the way she likes it. But she never imagined that the concert her friends dragged her into would change her life when she meets Bren, the rockstar and the only man that ever showed her any affection.

Will he be able to change her mind and show her what it like to be loved ? You gotta read to find out as I highly recommend it ❤️

I discovered Ofelia Martinez through an advanced reader group online and have read each release to date. Each book gets better, and Hiding In The Smoke was no exception- it even got me out of my months long reading slump.

Sofia is a strong willed, independent business woman. Bren is, simply put, a Rock God, and the lead singer of Industrial November. Despite arguing every time they see each other, the chemistry between Sofia and Bren is off the charts. The friends that Sofia and Bren hold tightly in their circles add that extra layer to the story, making it that much more enjoyable.

If you’re a fan of rockstar romance, a strong female lead, and some super steamy scenes, Hiding In The Smoke is for you! I cannot wait to see what Ofelia has for us as we get to know the rest of the guys in Industrial November!

This book is hella hot.🥵 🔥
I tried my best to read this book slowly, but I totally binged it. I loved Sofia (the main character)!

Chapter 16 for a lot of you, is only a stronger incentive to read this book.
(*but heads up, this book is 18+)

Enemies to lovers
Second chance romance
Dual POV
Latinx and German characters
Male main character is a musician in a band
Female main character owns her own business
Great chemistry between love interests

“All I’m proposing is that we spend some time together.” She bites her lip while she considers her next words. “You mean it?” I nod. “Fine. Here’s the deal—if you want it,” she says. “One night. No strings. No repeats. No sleeping over.”

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book; my honest opinion is that you should 100% read this book.

Despite what the rating might suggest, I did not have a terrible reading experience. I was just holding out hope until the last page that my issues would get resolved.

I knew the tropes involved (rockstar/billionaire, surprise baby) are ones I am more ambivalent towards but I liked the sound of a headstrong, queer, Latine woman and I never read a romance with a German love interest. I was intrigued. And I liked their initial dynamic when he was interested in a more romantic pursuit than she was.

The romance starts off very physical (again, not my preference) and then doesn't get very far at all on the romance part. I felt their entire relationship starts off-kilter, including overheard insults, possessiveness, and unresolved issues in their pasts that it was doomed from the start. Even now, having read the epilogue, I firmly believe they would not work out on the long term (or the short-term, like the novel demonstrates). Bren in particular spends much of the first half talking about Sofia's sexy body (maybe exotification even?), he keeps putting his foot in his mouth and acts quite immature for a 34-year-old international sensation. Sofia isn't much better, she is also terrible at communicating, never takes a minute to think things through and is quick to judge.

There is also a strong theme of jealousy throughout the entire story that had me struggling. Both characters have issues with that, though Bren's are far worse, and both are (at times) able to acknowledge how ridiculous they are acting. But they don't stop? It's an ongoing point of discussion that does not get resolved, the leads don't learn anything. There level of jealousy is so unhealthy and yet it somehow solves itself in the end?
Sometimes, it's appealing to read about main characters that exhibit bad/toxic behaviour and watch them grow and end up a better person in the end. But for that to happen, we need a character arc - and Sofia and Bren are the same people by the end of the book.
