Covered in tattoos with a head of bright turquoise hair, Briar Thorn Lis likes to pretend she’s untouchable. She’s got her small group of close friends, so who cares that she doesn’t date? It’s not like she plans on having kids anyway. And her life is full of helping and protecting her “chosen” family.
Except there is a guy. She’s never met him, and she’s almost 100% sure he isn’t human, but the sound of his voice makes her feel things. And here she thought all those pesky emotions like romantic love were locked down tight. But the guy named Memphis that lives up in Oregon makes her want to lower her shields and invite him in.
All the strange feelings she’s developing mean that when she stumbles across a vampire in desperate need of help, the only person she thinks to call is Memphis.
For his part, Memphis Granger has given up on the hacker he lovingly calls Baby Doll making the first move. They’ve flirted over the phone for almost a year, and he is losing patience. As a Chimera, Memphis knows the moment he hears Briar’s voice that she is his mate. Her filthy mouth, penchant for physical violence, and less than legal occupation does nothing to deter Memphis. Hell, if anything, it makes him want her even more.
The problem is convincing her that they could have something real. When she calls him for help with a vampire, he jumps at the chance to meet her in person. Besides, his best friend is a bloodsucker, so he’s got plenty of practice dealing with a fang-face. How much trouble could a starving and confused vampire be?
When Tobias Becker was lured into a trap by his greedy business partner, he expected to die. But that didn’t happen. Instead, he’s left to languish alone in a room bound by powerful magic. He has no idea how much time has passed, but when he’s roused out of his unnatural sleep, it’s to find the face of a colorful angel staring down at him. Instantly, he knows she is meant to be his flock, a lifelong companion that a vampire shares his soul with. He’s weak and possibly insane from such a long hibernation, but he knows better than to let go of this woman.
When a leather wearing, rough looking Chimera shows up with ties to his angel, Tobias decides that there is always room for one more in his flock. All he needs to do is make these two understand that they belong to him now. How hard could it be?
I really enjoyed the premise of this book and I always love a great paranormal romance. For this book feel short with me I didn't feel like the author gave the characters enough time to develop feelings or a relationship. They jumped right into sex. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with a great spicy romance book. But just make it make sense to me. The first time Briar was with Tobias he couldn't even talk. Over all the book had a novella like feel . The emotions felt rushed. The storyline and plot were pretty good . Standing was exciting but predictable. I am looking forward to the next book.
Story was OK, spice was nice, characters were fine. I'm not a big fan of fated mates but it was nice to see a paranormal romance that wasn't toxic af for a change!
Again an interesting concept from this author. Character development was about the same with one of the MCs nicely developed (Briar) and the other two okay. The plot was good with a couple dips and dives but no real unforeseen events. We all knew Greg was going to lose it. This one had a much better flow than #1. I didn't get thrown by POV and the writing seemed smoother and better edited. It did feel a bit rushed at times. I did get the feeling that the author is really biased against whites, but not enough to put me off, and I have marked the release date for #3. Overall a good read - not great but good for a peaceful afternoon.
Absolutely a blast to read with sassy humor and string characters! I loved the interesting personas and the kickbutt attitudes.
What I didn't like was being hit with a Mack truck of Trans acceptance in the first chapter. It was a pretty strong tone to set before the story even got going. Then two thirds of the way thru the book, I got distinct anti-"white" vibes.
Great story, great characters, and I love the inclusion it offers, but subtle it is not.
The world building for this book was interesting, with a mix of classic mythology and prejudices and new interpretations. I also liked the backstories for Tobias and Briar. However, Briar had a little too much pick me girl energy. She practically radiated toxic masculinity. Tobias was dreamy with most of his issues stemming from being a vampire. Memphis was a lot more emotionally intelligent than I was expecting, and he helped balance out some of Briar’s issues. I enjoyed seeing a respected trans woman and I enjoy polyam romances. LGBTQ+ rep is valuable, especially when portrayed positively.
Spice: 4/5
Trigger Warning: discussion of child abuse and neglect, violence, peril scenarios, racism, homophobia
Another great love story. Three very different people coming together. The MFC’s struggle kind of stressed me out but that may be because it felt too much like real life. Not a bad thing and it was nice to see her move through it and come out the other side.
I'm liking the world and the strengths and limitations of the different kinds of supernatural folks. The set up for the next book is looking great.
My favorite line, “Nothing so annoying as entitled, drunk white guys”. Isn't that the truth. Which is why there are so few white men in romance novels. The best ones are usually shifters, vampires, aliens, or cyborgs. No human dudes.
I enjoyed every page of this book. I don’t know if it was the different types of shifters in this book, or that it wasn’t a normal “pack” mentality, but I really liked the inclusion. The fact that both Tobias and Memphis recognized Briar as their mate immediately, given the circumstances was quite impressive. As was that Briar just rolled with it like she did. I didn’t even put this book down. I read it cover to cover once I started it. I am kind of excited for the next book too.
Memphis has known Brair was his mate since the first time he talked to her. He's been trying to convince her to give him a chance but one day she calls out of the blue with a sick vampire who needs help. Memphis goes to help and realizes that Briar and Tobias are his mates.
Together they try to figure out how to be a flock and navigate past issues. RK once again writes a great story full of paranormal activities and steamy scenes. This one has a bit of suspense but is mostly three very different people navigating how to be together.
This second book is better than the first one,and I really liked that one.I liked the insta- love aspect to it,especially with Tobias when Briar first finds him.I didn't know a chimera could be cute. This book had more conflict and magic in it than the first one.It was amusing and very readable.I highly recommend this book and the whole series in general. Now I have to wait until October for book #3.I look forward to Imani,Mac and Lex' s story
What a brilliant book. I absolutely loved the title. When I saw it I just had to read the book. I’m so glad I did because it’s excellent. Briar is so kick ass and doesn’t let anyone mess with her friends. Memphis has been courting her over the phone trying to convince her that relationships are a good thing. When you add Tobias to the mix and then the fun begins. Great book, I’ve preordered the next book in the series.
I loved Memphis, Briar, and Tobias! They were such a joy to watch as they came together and overcame all they had to in order for their happily ever after. Memphis was such a rock for Tobias and Briar as they worked through their issues. Love that chimera. RK Munin writes in depth characters that grab hold and don’t let go. The sex is steamy(yes this is a MMF book), the plot is fantastic, and you will feel for this flock as you root for them to succeed.
This is such a great new series from this author. She does a fabulous job of not only making you care about the main characters but also pulling you in with the side characters that are introduced in each book. I wait with baited breath for the next book in this series and can not wait to see other side characters get their own hea.
Really enjoyed this book. There were some random tense changes and miss-spellings, but they weren't enough to take me out of the story.
Briar is AWESOME. Tough, punk, and foul-mouthed. Memphis is a big, hard biker/shifter. Tobias is sweet and softe and a vampire. They make a gorgeous triad.
The joke’s on me. It’s a fast, intriguing, fun and erotic story. Love the choice of San Diego for Tobias, Briar and Memphis. Such unique beings, they deserve to live and love in the most fun city in the USA. I look forward to reading the other books in this series!
The title sounds like a cheesy joke, but the story draws you into the world of the supernatural and keeps you there. Briar is human but aware of the supernatural - she is fierce, protective and loving. Then she meets her fated mates and all heck breaks out. Fun exciting read.
The second book in a really great series. I groaned, laughed, cried and stayed up way too late! This is really good even if you don't like preternatural beings. I feel that I can recommend this to anyone that wants to read a complicated romance.
I love stories with paranormal themes plus it was why chose to top it off! The female was a strong character with a messed up childhood but was able to overcome it with her mates and friends.
I love this story of Briar, Memphis and Tobias! It was sweet, interesting and I really like the cast of characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and can’t wait for the next book!
I loved the dynamics between the characters! Memphis and Tobias really had their work cut out for them, trying to convince Briar to take a chance on a relationship. The reality they live in is filled with such interesting creatures - I'll be looking up more of this series for sure.
This was a fun read, and I enjoyed seeing more of the world the author has created. The characters are fantastic, especially Briar. She's a total delight and someone I'd love to have as a friend.
Although at times I felt a tiny bit frustrated at the characters, this made for an interesting read. I could identify with the characters and found them to have depth.
I enjoy paranormal stories and this is a great one. The title is your first clue. In addition to the Chimera and vampire, the hacker is a human. Best friends with the human are wolf shifters, pixies, and a collection of other shifters. Makes for very interesting reading.
RK Munin is a new-to-me author and I’m so glad I ran across this series. Different angles on shifters, etc., which I love! I’ll definitely read more from this author.
This is a fun and sexy read. Definitely adult content. Characters are well developed, sweet and strong. Good mix of conflicts and action. Nice magical components but not overdone. Overall, a good book.
A bit chaotic, too many different goings-on: for me, I would have liked a slightly slower pace and some things better explained, "fleshed" out, and not just "okay I explained it, now everything is ok". It was quite amusing sometimes, though.
I loved this book. It had some way different perspectives than most books. One was the hacker was a size 14, so this alone made it more real since most people are not a size 4. The other thing I loved was the Chimera.
Fabulous characters and amazing twists and turns. You won't be able to put this book down. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I highly recommend this series!
