"FROM FRIEND TO FATHER" by Tracy Wolff is a well-paced, warmly-told story of two fiery and stubborn people who grow as individuals as their relationship comes together. Sarah and Reece are friends because his wife is Sarah's best friend. When Reece and his wife, Vanessa, are not able to conceive a child to save their strained marriage, Sarah agrees to be a surrogate mother. Before the child is born, Vanessa is killed in a car crash, leaving a devastated Reece unable to cope with the responsibility of Sarah's pregnancy. He does not visit Sarah until after the baby, Rose, has been born. Sarah had once been married and also has five year old twin boys whose father abandoned her and the children. She is reluctant to trust Reece when he states that he wants to take care of her and the boys and be a true father to Rose. He moves in with Sarah and the kids, and all their lives are eventually changed for the better. A very good family story with plenty of heat between Sarah and Reece!

Up until about 2/3 of the book I probably would have given it 3, maybe even four stars, but from that part on it went downhill pretty fast.
I'll tell you what I liked about this book:
- Reece (even though he has his faults he's still a good man, loving and has a great sense of humor)
- the scenes with the kids (they are just adorable! And that's me saying that, even though I'm not a big fan of children in books...)
- the chemistry between Reece and Sarah
- the overall concept of the story
Now to the points I didn't like:
- the way the concept of the story was used in the end
- Vanessa (Reece's late wife; the author used her as a wedge between Reece and Sarah whenever it was convenient; the way she was presented as the perfect wife in the beginning, but then, when Reece and Sarah are finally starting their relationship she's suddenly this flawed and at times horrible person, just so that the reader can see how much better Sarah is -.-)
- there was no (ZERO!) communication between the two main characters (one of them said or did something and the other person just assumed the meaning of it, they never really talked about it)
- in the end Sarah was nothing but a bundle of nerves and insecurities (and somehow the author actually managed to make it look as if it was Reece's fault because he wasn't constantly patting her head and telling her that he wasn't going to abandon her and the kids... well.. .duh!)
- too many issues for 256 pages!
- in comparison to the struggles between the Reece and Sarah, the raising of three kids was presented as the easiest thing on the planet (with the exception of a few toys flushed down the toilet... I know it's fiction, but come on!)
The story had a lot of potential, but the author ruined it by packing the problems of three books into this one. I don't regret reading it, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I expected.
I'll tell you what I liked about this book:

I liked this much more than I thought I would. At first I was annoyed by the usually obvious ploy of having Reece say he was attracted to Sarah even when he was married, but Ms. Wolff handled it well. And it did explain the attraction he feels so soon after his wife died.
The problems that infertile couples go through was handled well also - especially Reece's ambivalence about having a child at all. He had issues, not surprisingly, but was good about facing them and talking about them and especially apologising - all good to have in a hero. I thought Sarah would have arranged her life a bit better in the time after her husband left. I was surprised she didn't have more of a support system in place. But she faced up to her issues in the end.
The length limitations hindered the HEA a bit. They were good together, an epilogue maybe 6 months on would have added a lot.

actually 4 but justin and jonny made me to giv 4.5....:)
i was really attracted to the story as read the blub
it was a beutiful story....i liked sarah!...her will power..she craves for love but she hides it
i'm writing this review now whereas i read the book 2 weeks ago.......so i don't remember hw was
my feelings after reading it......but one thing was sure ,i was happy to read it....really happy!!!

Passable story and romance.
Lots and lots of babies in this book. I did not mind as I haven't read this type of old-fashioned romance in ages, but be prepared for lots of kids in this one. Also, the hero just could not seem to get his act together in the book and I am not sure he will be able to sustain a relationship, so I was not convinced of the HEA but I have to hope because...lots of children here.

simply loved it !! very realistic story. he was attracted to her since the first meeting..when vanessa introduced him to her. but then she was married. and when she divorced, now it was him married to vanessa. he never got to tell her. at the end, i thought he should have told her all this. neway it was a very warm story, it touched my heart. the kids were wonderful too:-)

I enjoyed the Hero more than the Heroine. I liked the interaction with the children.
