Christmas is a wonderful time, and this light-hearted book celebrates each and every present-filled, magical moment. Stuffed with fun things to do, games to play and festive tips and tricks, this indispensable, tongue-in-cheek handbook is guaranteed to ensure the whole family has the best Christmas ever.
Please don't expect an encyclopedia of Christmas. This is a nice little book with at least a couple of pages dedicated to each part of Christmas - gift wrapping, Christmas No.1 s, Christmas films, decorations etc. I would recommend this book to parents with small children. It'll get them talking about all aspects of the season, not just about the list they're making for Father Christmas!
The Christmas Book sets out to tell the reader how to have the best Christmas ever, and does so by covering a wide variety of festive topics from how to wrap presents, to hosting a party, to selecting the top 10 Christmas films of all time.
Although each topic is only given a little overview, it is plenty for the purposes of the book. The breadth of topics is also impressive, and there are plenty of festive quotes and trivia facts dotted about for the inquisitive mind.
Foster makes the occasional sarcastic (even catty) remark, but generally keeps quite a neutral tone. Some humour would have made this book better. After all, Christmas is a celebration and a slightly more fun writing style would certainly have been more fitting for the season.
Overall, a surprisingly interesting and useful collection of hints, tips and advice with some background information that you might not have heard before.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! today is the best day of the year (in my opinion), i hope everyone has a nice day, even if you don't celebrate christmas! I'm not going to rate this book because i don't think i can rate it! i loved it though, and it had some great tips, and it definitely got me in the festive mood! i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for some tips on how to have a great christmas, or if you just want a festive read! It had such a cosy feeling to it. It would be perfect to snuggle up with a hot chocolate, next to the christmas tree with this book! ALSO, I'VE REACHED MY GOAL OF 6O BOOKS WITH 6 DAYS TO GO!!!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful christmas!
This is a rather humorous and surprisingly informative guide to surviving the Christmas season without too much stress, too many leftovers (or hangovers) and without a heartattack bank statement once the season ends. This guide has tips for throwing parties (while actually sticking to budgets and enjoying yourself), preparing the dinner, wrapping presents and how to keep the family entertained (or at least stop them from killing each other!) as well as little pieces of trivia from Christmas movies to the origins of many of the Christmas traditions. And there's even a bit of advice for all those Scrooges out there too! Overall a pretty good entertaining read.
Fun little book to flick through with lots of food and cocktail recipes for the festive season as well as lots of fun-facts and party, gift and film recommendations.
I learnt a lot of interesting things about the history behind some of the traditions like hanging mistletoe etc and enjoyed reading through. Probably something to only read once though, unless of course you go back to it for any of the recipes!
I got this as a slightly early Christmas gift today (December 22nd 2021) by my friend and I read it in one day.
What a delightful little book! I quite enjoyed the light humor in it, particularly the "Dear ___" letters inbetween chapters; my personal favorite was the one about the woman about to divorce her husband.
I was not disappointed with this Christmas gift and I think it'll be a great candidate for a present if you're looking to surprise friends and family!

A fun read and a little bit of everything. Christmas trivia, jokes, stories, holiday decorating and entertaining tips and even some sarcastic thank you notes for unique gifts. Just something to get you in the holiday spirit while you take a break from the festivities and planning.
