I am a person who loves to read, write and cook. My dog is my deepest love, and my nephews are my shining light. Romance has always been my passion, especially historical romance novels. I am a sucker for a dark and brooding hero. Heathcliff is my main man.
Very entertaining. What a fun collection to read with a great variety of historical. I had to read the Gothic one first and I loved it. Then I moved to a few authors I donβt know and let me tell you I am going to be looking at other works by them. There were also so favorite author in the mix too. An entertaining group of stories to spend time with that I am happy to recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
I received a copy of this anthology of historical romance short stories from BookSprout and this is my freely given opinion.
This is a very robust collection of Christmas/winter-related short stories from a variety of authors and I have to admit that I migrated to only a portion of them because they were either authors I had read before, or from a period of history that interested me more. But I suspect that I may go back and finish the rest at some point, because I was introduced to at least one author so far that I had not read before and I enjoyed the story.
Some of them were short stories related to other series, such as the story by Emma Brady about the widowed matriarch of the Powell family (The Sinner's Club) and her second chance with a youthful lost love. The ones I read were steamy/sensual, and in general I enjoyed what I have read so far. They are short little bits of mental reading bonbons that I have enjoyed, and put me into that enjoy a cozy warm spot near the fire while reading a fun book, as the snow flies outside mood.
Considering the variety of authors and different stories, this is something you can't go wrong with - like a good box of chocolates - unless you hate chocolate/historical romances completely, there is bound to be something you will like.
Nine books in one around a Christmas theme. An enjoyable read featuring to me some new authors and a couple I know well. If I could I would say probably 4.5*. Particularly enjoyed seeing a book with older hero and heroine, many authors shy away from it so finding this little treasure, however short, was a real joy. Its a nice change from the usual sparky debutante meets a rake storyline so prevalent in box sets. Not that I don't enjoy them but something different is always good. Will read this author again. The only negative, was another book which was moving along quite happily until suddenly vulgar language appeared, one of the characters even commented on it. Was enjoying a slightly predictable ( the author gave the plot away in the preview) storyline, so was a shock to see it. Added nothing to the book, and as I don't like to read words like that means I won't choose to read that author again.
These are fast becoming my faveorite reads this year for 2022. So many amazing authors, amazing stories and now new authors to follow and read their backlists.
I enjoyed this rakes, wallflowers and a powerful maharani on a journey through the Regency to the turbulent 1940s it was an entertaining read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.
βHoβs, Highwaymen, and Thieves in Winter/Christmas Collectionβ¦ Oh, My!
When I saw this historical winter/Christmas holiday anthology at a book review site, I had to snap it up, as historical romance is my favorite romance subgenre, and holiday romances are my absolute favorite. I only recognized the name of one author in this collection, but I'm always willing, and hoping, to find new favorite authors.
Unfortunately, I found this to be an absolutely terrible anthology. I wish they had included more information about the stories on the book review website; it only listed author names. While this anthology contains historical stories from the Regency era to the 1940s, most seem to take place in Regency England, even if the authors didn't specifically state the year their story takes place. Not every story is specifically a Christmas story, either, but many of them had Christmas or another word like βmistletoeβ in the titles, making this a predominantly Christmas anthology, even if it wasn't explicitly said to be so. As such, I took great offense to what I mentioned in the title of this review. The very first story in the very first paragraphβ¦ the hero actually says the word βhoβsβ, using the full βwhβ spelling, and yes, he is referring to ladies of the night! Not exactly what I associate with the holidays! I skipped that story and kept moving.
The next couple of stories weren't any better! One has the heroine as a thief; while another has the countess heroine pretending to be a notorious highwayman! Seriously, in a mostly Christmas collection? I want feel-good stories, not ones about prostitutes, highwaymen, or thieves! I gave a quick glance to the other stories, but none inspired me to read more than a chapter. I skipped to the one by the author that I know and sometimes like, Rose Pearson. Unfortunately, one of the things I dislike about her stories is that she info-dumps, and in novellasβlike all these stories areβthese info dumps are prodigious, as it appears she just wants to get to the story and just throws backstory information at the reader so she can just carry on with the main story. I ended up closing this collection in disgust. If you enjoy historical romance as I do, particularly holiday romance, I suggest finding a better anthology than this one because most likely any other one out there would be better than this.
I received a free copy of this anthology, but that did notβobviouslyβaffect my review.
I read three of the stories and just wasn't that impressed so I didn't continue the anthology. - A very gothic Christmas- ok. Not great - Last winter a wallflower-ok - Best Christmas Ever - I skimmed a lot so just decided after that to not waste my time
A delightful collection consisting of different tropes with one thing in common, HEA. There are tender, loving moments, as well as LOL and amusing instances. An enjoyable way to find new author favourites.
I received a free copy of this book via Sofia's Cowboy Romance Lovers and am voluntarily leaving a review.
