Rate this book
Nomoto may be an amateur chef, but she dreams big—at least in terms of food portions. Unfortunately, her appetite isn't as large as her imagination, so she can't give her masterpieces the full enjoyment they deserve. Luckily, one evening, she finds the perfect audience in her neighbor, Kasuga, who just happens to love eating. As this important gourmet duo warms up to each other, could tender feelings be brewing?

THIS IS THE FOOD MANGA I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! Shoutout to everyone who recommended this series to me. I've been attempting to find more food manga to check out and this one came highly recommended. The story follows main character Nomoto who enjoys cooking, but doesn't eat much. When she discovers that her neighbor, Kasuga, loves to eat, the two strike an unlikely relationship. Clearly, there are elements of this story that lead me to believe that it is a Yuri title; however, how two main characters are having difficulty expressing how they feel about one another. I'm loving the shyness and slow burn that is being showcased in their relationship. It really showcases the great character development. I'm more than excited to dive into the next volume.

I found this manga so calming. The title is basically the plot - one neighbor who loves to cook big meals finds someone who can appreciate them - but slowly and gently over the course of the book, these two characters start building a real connection. They're starting to become each other's refuge from the outside world and also partners in trying new things. Very much looking forward to the next volume.

If there’s anything Nomoto enjoys, it’s making huge meals. If there’s anything Kasuga enjoys, it’s eating. You might think you know where this is going… and you’d be right.

This is good fluffy food porn yuri. It has the most literal title this side of an isekai series and that is basically what this story is about. And while it would be perfectly fun going just that far, it opts to go a smidgen further and that extra effort, much like the way Nomoto cooks, is what makes it special.

At first, it seems like these two are just filling a niche for one another. Kasuga eats a lot and that lets Nomoto fulfill her wildest dreams of giant meals and puddings made in buckets and it’s cute to see their friendship blossom.

As we move through the story, however, it becomes very clear that this relationship quickly builds itself to be an island of happiness in the sea that is the rest of the world for both women. They’ve found something in one another and the slow, natural development of that understanding is really nicely done.

Rather than posit itself as another yuri paradise story, this one is all about women trying to be happy when they’re surrounded by men who still act like they’re the reason d’être for any female. From trying to enjoy a meal in a restaurant to just cooking for pleasure, or even trying to talk to one’s parents, these two put up with a lot of crap and this manga’s got some good shade to throw.

So, watching them find their place with one another over some lovely looking food is pretty solid. I’m always a sucker for a good food manga and this one goes the distance. I loved how thorough the translation notes were at the back of the volume, so much good info there for the novice Japanese foodie so you can really get the flavour of the series (I went there).

And special shout-out to Kasuga having a different body type than we typically see and absolutely nothing being made of it. The story is far more fascinated by how tall she is than anything and that’s a very nice touch. Acceptance is the best one-word descriptor of this story and it’s all over the narrative.

I would call this good, strong even, but not excellent. For one, it’s largely pure fluff, even with its more serious asides. They do a lot of cooking and a lot of eating and the stories all revolve around that one particular fact. It’s varied enough that it doesn’t seem that overdone, but the moments where they don’t share a meal stand out much more.

And when I say eating, I hope that you like watching Kasuga eating food as much as Nomoto does, because you will see damn near every bite she takes during the course of this volume. I guess somebody’s fetish is being catered to here, but holy Moses does it ever get a little repetitive.

4 stars - good food manga is good. The slow growth of the friendship slowly morphing into something more is well done too. They’re two great tastes that go great together, if a little inelegantly at points.

This slow-burn lesbian comic is as cute as everyone has been saying. A woman who loves cooking elaborate meals, but lives alone, notices a female neighbor in the apartment complex carrying a huge amount of takeout food home. Impulsively, she invites her neighbor in for dinner. This begins a gentle routine of joint shopping, cooking, and meal planning together. Will this food-based friendship develop into something more? I will have to keep reading to find out!

The title tells the story. And for this volume at least, that's the full story. I think there may be some romance down the road, but for now these neighbors in an apartment building in Japan are just building a friendship based on a love for preparing and eating food.

It's mild but nice, with enough potential to bring me back for future volumes.

It’s a queer, foodie manga, and it was freaking adorable. This reminds me so much of my spouse who gets joy out of making me delicious meals.

This felt like a big, cozy embrace. I loved every minute of this charming, slice-of-life manga, and I can't stop reading it. Nomoto's neighbor Kasuga enjoys eating, and since Nomoto loves to cook, the two spend a lot of time together while Nomoto prepares meals for her. It was the cutest thing

This is my new favorite food manga, which came as a Kindle recommendation when I finished the If You'll Have Me comic. That's probably because this is sapphic too! I'm in love and cannot wait to continue the series.

This is a good start to a series, but I'm trying to figure out why it's label LGBTQIA+. I guess they eventually get into a relationship, I will just have to see in the next volume of the series.

Nomoto loves cooking but lives alone and always makes way too much food for just herself to eat. One day she sees her neighbor, Kasuga with a lot of fast food bags and is told that all of the food was for Kasuga to eat. Nomoto had the brilliant idea that she could feed herself and Kasuga. She approaches Kasuga and she agrees to eat her cooking.

They form a friendship that I guess blossoms into something more in later volumes. I'm looking forward to seeing where they end up.

Re-read 17.11.2023:

Because I'm in the mood to finally start with volume 3, I'll be re-reading the first 2 volumes again!
Do I need to re-read them? Nope. Actually, I know them by heart already.
Will I do so anyways? Absolutely, 'cause this is pure comfort!!

Also, for the actual review: nothing more to say, my first two reviews describe my thoughts on this perfectly. I still get so many butterflies, just seeing them in a room together... <3
And also didn't make the mistake of not eating sth while reading. XD

I wonder, though, does the author like cooking herself or did she look up a bunch of cooking shows/tutorials online, just for this series? Because the amount of detail, not only in the drawings but also the writing is amazing...!

Re-read 09.08.2023:

Cooking is how Nomoto de-stresses and this is how I de-stress. Just what I needed right now.
All the food even got my appetite back.
Love those two ladies, and can't wait for volume 3. <3

1st read 13.04.2023:

This is so wholesome!!! <3

I love that Nomoto cooks because she genuinely loves it, not because she was raised to, so that she'll be a great house-wife or something. This issue also comes up pretty early, when a man at work mentions that. I love Nomoto's reaction.

description

It's also awesome to have a character with bigger body size, who is comfortable in their own body and none of the characters ask if she's planning to go on a diet.

description

It's such a chill read. But I recommend eating something or having food nearby, otherwise you will get hungry. :D

Gay manga! Gay manga!!

I saw this book on the shelves of Barnes and Noble, read half of it sitting in the store, and then checked it out of my library so I could devour it in one bite!

In this manga, we meet Nomoto, who loves cooking. Unfortunately, she enjoys making larger portions than she can eat, leaving her continually frustrated. When she realizes her neighbor Kasuga has an appetite to match her height, Nomoto is thrilled to find someone she can feed - and maybe they can find something else along the way!

This was the cutest romance premise. I loved the girls' somewhat transactional relationship blossoming into real friendship, and the slice-of-life nature of this book was lovely! The food depictions made my mouth water. I also really liked the feminist talking points in here - Nomoto is frustrated by the fact that people see her hobby as something useful in a wife, and how "dressing to impress" is usually done for a male gaze. Also, there's a whole chapter where Nomoto has period cramps and Kasuga takes care of her. I LOVE this kind of representation!

I wish we had more details from Kasuga, as we know a lot more about Nomoto than her, but I'm hoping that's to come. When I saw this manga at B&N, I assumed it was a new release, but my library has so many further books in this series - so I'm jumping right in!

4/5 stars!

It was a quick and surprisingly grounded but still chill read. Very simple concept: a woman who loves to cook but doesn’t have the biggest appetite discovers that her neighbor lives to eat and can eat a lot; a match made in heaven! A friendship quickly forms and something more may be slowly simmering as well (sorry, had to include the food pun).

Part of the reason why I didn’t rate it higher is because I wanted there to be a touch more character development but I understand it’s only the first volume. It is also vague on the cooking which I don’t usually see in cooking centered manga but I have a feeling food is merely going to be used as a plot device/vehicle for characterization and not the primary focus. All and all, it was a decent start and I look forward to seeing how this series develops.
