Severed Ties #2

Wicked Reunions

Rate this book
They claim to want me back but I’m not the woman they used to know.

Promises of change and a declaration of loyalty do not sway me.

Sensual moments and intimate touches do not blind me.

If they want my heart, they will have to earn it… maybe even risk their lives for it.

With what information I’ve uncovered, we all may have to risk something in order to stop the plan the old queen has put in motion. With enemies from my past emerging and their alliance with the queen revealed, I’m going to need people on my side to help me bring down the evil afoot. But to do that, I’ll have to do what one thing my mates ask of me: To put some trust in them.

It amazes me how incredibly action packed this series is and how consumed I am by the plot. Ever step the plot takes forward is also in step with how the relationships are progressing so there is just an edge of your seat feeling the entire book. I love that. It’s written so that you are taking every moment of this ride, right along with the characters. The pace of this book is really great, again both the plot and the relationship development. Nothing is drawn out so long that you get annoyed or become uninterested and the multiple POVs are so on point. You’re always getting the story from exactly the right character. Also Ms. Cross turned the heat UP as promised in this one. Brenton really threw down the gauntlet that dragons do some things better *nug nug wink wink.* This is an entertaining and gripping read. I was over half way in before it released its hold on me and the sandman forced me to put it down. But the moment I rolled over in the morning I reached for it! I am really curious to see what happens next. What more is in store for Cleo and her harem?

**ARC review**

I was happy to see that the second installment of this series was available sooner than I expected. I was reading this at the same time I was moving and I was still taking the time to read this in the evenings when I was exhausted. I wanted to know more! This book kept up on the action (lots going on) as well as the character and relationship developments throughout the book. I enjoyed the whole process of bringing in our FMC's Court and vetting them more thoroughly so they were more trusted members in the story. Some loose ends were tied up, and multiple characters are forced to confront difficult histories and decisions. As in the first book, apologies aren't just tossed out and immediately accepted - our characters have to actually apologize and build up trust, which I liked. I appreciated that book 2 picks up at the very moment book 1 ended, so you can see how the cliffhanger truly resolves, which set up the direction this book took on.

One of the dynamics I enjoy here is that our FMC has 4 devoted mates and they are NOT a pre-established group with strong relationships of their own, which you see often in the reverse harem genre (a motorcycle club, friends since birth, etc etc). As a result, there is some push and pull between the men about how this is all going to work. While our FMC always has the final say, I like the roles each character is playing, and how the relationships are developing between and amongst the men. Even with all that though, the spicy scenes did in fact get hotter in this book, and group dynamics are definitely in play.

I did struggle a bit with this book's frequent POV changes. Each chapter has the POV listed, and there are at least 5 used. Repeatedly, I had to go back and check whose I was reading because not all of the characters truly have a distinct enough 'voice' for me to keep track all the time. Plus, there are just a lot of male names in this book.

*Spoilers*
Things I was hoping for in this book that delivered:
-the reveal to Baron that Cleo ended up being trafficked -- YES. this and his ensuing beatdown was great
-even more spice -- YES

Things I'm hoping for in the next book:
-Resolution between Hendricks and Titus
-More time/growth of the relationship between Titus and Brenton
-A followup on the relationship between dragons and other shifter communities
-A more thorough house cleaning of the dragon council after finding out where their loyalties lie
-More spice because let's be real, that's what got me here in the first place.

Wicked Reunion picks up right after book one with Titus making sure Cleo escaped after the adsassination attempt.

I loved book one, but book two was just an absolute masterpiece of a read. We get so much action packed in and the plot is *chefs kiss*. I loved Titus in book one, and book two just made me love him even more. Brenton was a trial and error character for me. I was skeptical that he was realistic in his actions, and after Cleo's previous mates broke her heart, I felt he was on the same track. But I am pleasantly surprised to find that he's genuine and actively trying for her. The spice was great and I loved the way the author does spice.

Th multiple POVs is also something I greatly appreciated, since it helped gain insight into the plot. It helped solidfy the characters relationships and give the readers a way to understand what their motives were.

I don't know if I just read a book, watched a fantastic movie or if I should scream and cry because it said "To Be Continued".

I'll maybe edit with the review? Maybe? I don't know. In any case, I will be posting the full thing on Instagram so check there if you'd like.
That was...I never saw anything like this coming for book 2. Fucking great.

For your sakes, 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5.
Thanks for coming to my Tedtalk, I stayed up to finish this because holy shit this series. ♥︎

Saying I was thrust into this world is probably the best way to describe how wholey this book consumed me. The plot is so different from other books I've read and I was so glad that this book exceeded my expectations.

This book picks up right after the assassination attempt with Titus making sure Cleo got away from the house. I was excited that even with the story line focusing on Nigel, you still learn about the characters and delve into the plot. I am also happy with the groveling and the fact that Cleo isn't blindly trusting Baron & Hendricks. And the way she makes sure they KNOW she owns them and not the other way around? Whew, go Queen! Even though the mistrust with Hendricks isn't as horrid as with Baron, he just broke her trust after working so hard to gain it and support her.

Titus is my favorite, I loved him since book 1, he is her rock, her support and wholeheartedly wants the absolute best for her. And I love that he knows that she needs the others and isn't threatened by that but knows that he'll need to be her sounding board. Brenton is new and even though I was skeptical with him, I realize that he is actually trying. He has an uphill battle due to Cleo's previous 2 mates that broke her heart and any trust she'd have willingly gave before.

Reading these characters evolive and being in the mix with their feelings and bond, really draws you into this book. I can't wait to see what book 3 has in store, especially with my favorite Titus, see if he stays my favorite.

Multi POV
Fated Mates
Second Chance
Badass FMC with Traumatic past
Spice- 4/5
Plot- 10/5 (you learn so much this is a jam packed book!)

--I was given an ARC of this book.

I really loved this world building, it was super unique.

We pick right up after the assassination attempt with Titus getting Cleo away from the house. Even with this craziness with Nigel, we get to see some serious character growth. Even though I think Cleo should kick Baron to the curb, he shows that he seriously fucked up with his bond and did everything wrong. Even though they re-bonded, she still isn’t fully trusting him, which really helped with the relationship development. She is also working on Hendricks, who suddenly appeared after the bombing/assassination attempt. She still loves him, but doesn’t fully trust him on staying.

I absolutely LOVE Titus. He is everything. Cleo might not be perfectly happy with just him, but I would. He is so protective, supportive, and loving. Everything that Cleo deserves and more. Brenton is another mate that is starting to get my support. He is trying to show Cleo that he will be there for her and with her throughout everything. Brenton and Titus are really the key mates that are keeping her on her feet.

There is so much going on with Nigel in this book, and we get to see the vulnerable side of Cleo and how she is dealing with her trauma during her time with Nigel. There is more to the story, Nigel was just one piece, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Book 2 of 3

As is my habit, I waited until I finished the series before writing any reviews. I enjoy Salem Cross’ writing. Her characters are well-defined and interesting. Her heroines are always strong, resilient and caring individuals. The women have the power and the men are their consummate support. The two series I have read, are paranormal, reverse harems (which I enjoy).

This series was well-written and entertaining. It is a unique story with shifters, vampires and magic. Book 2 continues the main plot. Even though it is a series, neither book 1 or 2 ended in a “cliffhanger”. It is clear the main plot is not over, but small plot points are completed. The one thing I think is missing, is the relationship building between the male main characters. I would like to have read more about them learning each other’s personalities and building a bond.

Also, Cross doesn’t give a lot of physical description of the characters. I wonder if this is because the FMCs are Black women and some of the MMC (love interests) are not. Not giving physical descriptions may be a ploy to not turn off readers who do not like characters of color. I hope that is not the case. Nevertheless, I am a fan and will continue to read her releases.

Talk about diving right in where we left off in Savage Rejections with the assassination attempt. I still love Titus, he was my favorite in book 1 and still is.

How are we still learning about this world? It’s incredible. The characters development is still evolving. Between everything happening with Nigel, Baron, Hendricks and Brenton. Holy hell. I didn’t think this series could get any better but boy was I wrong. The progression of Cleo’s relationships were great. Can one shifter do things better than another? The steam picks up in this book. And I love that we get to see Cleo’s vulnerability come through. But she still gets what she wants.

What a great way to continue this series. I can’t wait for the next book to see what Salem Cross is going to put us through next.

I received this arc and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Wicked Reunion picks up where the first book left off. We find that Cleo and Titus survived the attempted assassination on her but found she was struggling to heal after the curse that was placed on her from when Baron tried to sever their bond. What she isn't expecting is Hendricks to come and try to kidnap her or that she has been living with half bonds all this time. The steam in this book is swoon, Cleo is a babe and takes what she wants when she wants and makes her mates give her their all. We find out more about the background of some of the characters which is nice to see and I loved the groveling that she made Baron and Hendricks do, while Brenton and Titus were there as her sounding board. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next!

★ Mates coming out of the woodwork… ★

—>>> Amazing second installment to this story, a queen who rules with an honest, true, albeit very brittle heart. Thankful for Titus, who has been her rock, but the appearances of the two mates who had caused her so much pain in her past when she finds herself at her most vulnerable is a double-edged sword. Brenton is my second favorite mate for this Queen of Dragons, one who is prepared to take care of heart, mind, and stomach (body) first, alongside Titus. The rest grovel, but will they pay their dues? Action, dragon-level steam, and a lot of angst. Looking forward to their next story!

After finishing the first book in this series, I knew I had to continue. Cleo faces some major threats within this book, and still manages to hold onto her composure even when most (myself included) would’ve absolutely lost it to rage or to panic. We get to follow along as Hendricks finally discovers that she’s had a “situation” come up and see what he does in response. I didn’t find his reactions startling in the least, although I’m still not happy with him for the way he left things in the first book. I won’t get too into it and spoil the book and what happens, but be ready to grip the edge of your seats! I have a feeling the adventure doesn’t end here.

I WANT MORE !!!❤️‍🔥

Second book I've read by Salem Cross and I'm loving the progression in this world and her characters in the 2nd book. Their growth and their journey will still take time but reading it is a awesome slow burn that leaves u wanting more. I loved the different take on mates, because yes their is betrayal but also redemption. Cleo is an amazing dragon queen who is strong a warrior, even tho she has scars and Titus is a hyena shifter and I love everything about him! All her mates are so different yet they fit, I think the battle has just begun for the new queen trying to right the wrongs of a sick sadistic past queen, a great read. READY FOR THE NEXT

Book two brings new levels of danger and treachery. Monsters from Cleo’s past find ways to get close to her and her Court. Deception abounds, and evil plans are unveiled. It is a good thing Cleo possesses the Queen’s extra powers for healing and resisting dark magic. And even better, she is surrounded by mates who are wholly devoted to her, whether she trusts that devotion or not. Can Cleo survive the onslaught of her enemies? Can she open her heart and learn to trust? These are questions that will be answered as you read! Cleodora will show you what it means to be a true Queen.

Possible spoilers. I’m glad that Cleo has finally decided to embrace her meat bonds. I’m also glad that she was able to face her fears when it came to Nigel. I’m excited to see where book 3 goes since Canaan is still alive. I have a feeling that the danger is an over especially since they don’t know who else on the council was working with Enola. I’m really hoping that by the end of the series we see Cleo either having a few kids or at least becoming pregnant and living the perfect life with her mates. Fingers crossed!

So glad there was no time jump and we start with Cleo and Titus at the cliffhanger of book 1. If you've not read it, go do that now!
We see a bit of a shift of character focus in this book and I really enjoyed the POV shift.
Love that Cleo isn't just blindly forgiving her stupid mates for what they did. Titus is just amazing, love him so much! He's so attuned to Cleo and knows what she needs, sometimes before she knows herself. The others have a lot to make up for.
Baron ... oh Baron.
Can Brentom earn Cleo's trust or will the wounds from Hendricks and Baron keep holding her back ...

The grovel did not grovel. She soft forgave them both immediately then they just pushed back into her life after that until she completely forgave them. Got bored with the story by 70% and skimmed the rest. It's obvious the vampire's creator/ex lover is going to come back in the next book and idk if I want to deal with OW drama. The rest of the story is so interesting but it's not the focus rn sadly.

Pretty good

Well I enjoyed this book much more than the 1st 1. I was a little disappointed in how quickly Cleodora takes back the 2 guys that hurt her so badly. Hendrick Is inexcusable. So is Baron! But, I guess that's what happened, so it doesn't matter what I think. I think that the plot developed quickly here. Add in that a couple of the bad guys got taken out.. Now on to see what happens next because we know we have at least one more villain!

I devoured this book! It kept me on my toes at every turn and the character growth is amazing! I love the connection that the characters have. The last half of the book had be going through every feeling Cleo and the group were going through— it was as if I was in the book with them. I can’t wait to see the connections grow stronger between them!

My heart can’t get any happier, this book totally got me in my feels. Yay for queen Cleo and her mates. I’m so happy that she was forgiving and finally got rid of her horrible past with Nigel or has she? I can’t wait for the next book to see how Cleo handles being queen with her multiple Mates and what new enemies come about.

heart wrenching!

This book has taken me on a crazy journey!! The cliffhanger from book one had me in knots! Reading through all the twists was crazy! My favorite scene is at the end between Cleo and baron. I love that she is evolving past her pain and becoming an amazing person.
