Dan Green spent his first four years in Africa, until his family swapped the African sun for Welsh rain. He grew up an English-American hybrid in the heart of Wales and then went to Cambridge University to study geology. After college, he shipped out to Italy to chase a dream of rock 'n' roll stardom, wound up in Venezuela, where he became editor of the English language newspaper and survived a coup d'etat and most recently rode his motorbike across Europe to Morocco. Dan is the "voice of Basher" - the best-selling children's science series created by the graphic artist Basher (basherbooks.com/usa/home.html). He has also written humor books, comic strips for Horrible Histories and Horrible Science, and is the author of the Footprint Venezuela Handbook.
Very cool. The intricate drawings of the body and the idea of itty-bitty people carrying out all of the tasks of keeping that body in good working order is funny, interesting and a good way to learn about this kind of stuff. Both of the small turkeys and I have spent a great deal of time poring over this book - it will appeal both to kids who are interested in science and also those who love books with lots of little details (Richard Scarry comes to mind, altho this book is for older kids). Very much recommended.
Magic school bus on steroids. Illustrations are interesting and complex. Information provided in text bubbles. Glossary, index, and a three-page foldout that pulls the whole text together. Grat for a unit on the human body.
Very complex images may put off some adult readers, and high vocabulary may be difficult, however kids will enjoy looking at this book alone and getting to know all about their bodies.
