It's not just Shifters who lurk in the shadows.

Mountain lion shifter Reese Fitzpatrick never expected to be running his father's business--a luxury resort hidden away in Minnesota's Northland. But when his father is killed by a hunter's bullet, it's up to Reese to keep his father's legacy alive.

The job would be hard enough without the arrival of Sarah McAvoy, a mysterious woman with secrets of her own.

While she quickly has Reese’s mountain lion purring inside his skin, she's also such an irritating distraction he wants nothing more than to snarl and bite her.

But Reese has more to worry about than an accidental reveal of his animal nature.

If he and Sarah can't get past their differences, overcome the slow-burn of their sexual tension, and make the summer a financial success, the Fitzpatrick land could soon be covered in parking lots and strip malls.

Turns out, Reese's father wasn't the competent businessman he always believed him to be. And those vulture real estate developers are already hovering. Just waiting for Reese to fall.

That is, if the hunter who killed his father doesn't return to get him first.

USA Today bestselling author A.S. Green lives in chilly Minnesota and spends the all-too-short summers on Lake Superior, which is the muse for her paranormal and contemporary romances. She writes complex characters, action-packed plots, and snarky in-your-face banter. And, of course, loads of steamy love scenes.

Why were handsome, moody men always my Kryptonite?

4 stars!

This quote describes my tastes in fictional men so well, haha! Even though I have loved Anne's previous Northshore fae and Highland blood fae series, I have to admit I'm a little disappointed by this first book in her new series. Unfortunately, the pacing felt a little slow for me as there was very little action happening other than a few mishaps around the lodge.

In addition, there was very little relationship development between Sarah and Reese as most of the book is pretty PG. I know that Anne is planning for their story to span across three books, so I'm hoping that the pacing and steam will pick up in book two. I have to admit that I did miss the Irish and Scottish lore that Anne beautifully weaved into her previous novels, but I have high hopes that the mysterious patch linked to Reese's father's death will provide some opportunity for magical intervention!

Tropes: hate-to-love-you, fated mates, WITSEC/heroine on the run, murder mystery, boss/employee, workplace romance

"...But my nerves couldn’t be helped. I just hoped they didn’t get worse. Tall, dark, and handsome always did a number on me. Throw in a beard and those full lips... Lord have mercy." ~Sarah

"...I jogged up the steps and headed for the door, but as I passed Sarah on the porch, she turned and touched my arm. It immediately stopped me in my tracks. I looked down at the small hand on my bicep. Her touch shot a tingling awareness straight to my shoulder, and it exploded across my chest, rattling the cage that barely contained the beast within." ~Reese

OooOooo goodness - the $exual tensi°n and e$calating $low burn - wrapped up in paranormal shifter romance and a multi-tiered mystery is a decadent feast that has come from the genius of A.S. Green.

Into the Lion's Den by A.S. Green, Book 1 of the Duet of Secrets of the Northland Shifters follows newly named mountain lion Alpha Reese Fitzpatrick, oldest of the five  Fitzpatrick Siblings and newly hired seasonal  employee Sarah McAvoy working at the Evergreen Resort & Retreat Center in northeastern Minnesota. Both Reese and Sarah have dangerous secrets and trust issues.

Masterful world-building, detailed backstories, complex emotions, chemistry, $exy times & advancing dialogue - all trademarks of A.S. Green are here also. This story engages you on all levels! ➡️ This story ends on a big cliffhanger, but thankfully we will not have long to wait for the conclusion. 😊🌴🌺 I received an ARC for my honest review.

Ok I thought this would be like other shifter series when there is one book per couple. This is incorrect in this case, nothing too much happens in this one, 100% more background is needed around the reason she’s in witness protection and who is deceiving the big cats.

Both of which are left floating at the end of the book.
3 star listen.

I really enjoyed Into the Lion’s Den. I liked that Reese was so attracted to Sarah and felt so protective of her right away. I also liked how Sarah was so competent at her job even though she got thrown into it. I felt like how hard she worked really showed Reese she cared and would stick with him. Two things I didn’t like. First, when Sarah gets her ass grabbed by a hotel patron and Reese gets super protective but then tell her she shouldn’t have worn that dress. I didn’t mind the protective but didn’t like that he blamed her clothes. My second and larger issue was that this didn’t feel like a full book to me. I felt like the ending left the story pretty unresolved. That being said the next one is out now and this is a quick read so that’s not a deal breaker. However, it definitely lowered my rating.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and I liked the narration! I didn’t like Reese’s voice at first but after a few minutes I was ok with it.

I got this audiobook on storyorigin in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Into the Lion's Den is a paranormal shape-shifter romance set in northern Minnesota. I loved this setting because reading this was like I was at the resort on a north woods vacation myself.

The author nailed the romance and shape-shifter elements. The tension between the two leads, the rugged Reese Fitzpatrick and secretive Sarah McAvoy, is palpable. Additionally, I enjoyed the mountain lion aspects of Reese’s character and delighted in the animal references whenever they popped up such as Reese purring and wanting to claw out of his skin.

Early on, we learn that Reese (the main character and alpha male of his pack family) lost his dad to a hunting accident. It’s not initially clear if foul play is suspected or not. With his dad gone, Reese and his siblings must run the resort business alone. They face pressure from land developers wanting them to sell, but Reese and his siblings are adamant about not selling. This plotline kept me guessing who to suspect of foul play and if it was or wasn’t related to the land developers.

What I didn’t expect from Into the Lion’s Den and ended up loving even more than the romance was the intriguing, multi-layered mystery. I loved this part of the story so much! There are at least three mysteries going on: What happened to Reese's dad? Is the resort in jeopardy? And Who is Sarah McAvoy really? Green juggles these mystery layers expertly.

Additionally, secrets add to the story’s intrigue. Sarah doesn’t know that Reese is a mountain lion shifter. Sarah also keeps secrets from Reese about her true identity, why she’s really taken the job at the resort, and who she’s running from.

Green does a masterful job of complicating the plot and weaving all of these aspects together in a believable and cohesive way. And when Reese shifts and tears through the north woods, we are along for the windy, winding ride.

Anyone looking for a good read with a strong forbidden romance and plenty of mystery will enjoy this one!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, mystery and a slow build burn
Into The Lion’s Den (Secrets of the Northland Shifters Book 1) by A.S. Green is a mystery with hidden dangers, thrilling paranormal elements as well as exquisite slow-build burning romance. Reese and Sarah are smoldering beneath their surfaces and shoving sexy thoughts aside. Reese fears mating a human and Sarah has found herself in a tight spot as the only witness to a horrible crime.
The tension in Book 1 of this series is a constant tease of tensions; sexual, shifter, weight of responsibility, loss and grief as well as intuitively knowing all the mysterious misfortunes cannot be simply coincidental.
Overall, this book does end leaving the reader hanging, but we’re left with hope. Hope for closure, Reese and Sarah as well as the Fitzpatrick Family resort’s future. There is a ton of elements that held me captive from start and I am on pins and needles waiting for Book 2.

Reese and Sarah's Story . . .

Reese Fitzpatrick becomes the mountain lion Alpha of his pack when his father is killed in a hunting accident that may turn out to have been deliberate. Now Reese and his siblings are trying to run the family’s Evergreen Resort business on their own. But land developers move in quickly, pressuring them to sell. Added to his discomfort, their new hire Sarah McAvoy, who is not aware they are shifters, is causing tension between herself and Reese, making him both purr and snarl around her. Both of them have secrets which can heavily impact the other. Will he find out who she really is? Will he escape the hunter who killed his father? Can they save the resort?

Into the Lion’s Den is an amazing story filled with mystery, intrigue, fantasy, and of course a steamy romance that will set your soul on fire. Reese is strong and confident, struggling with keeping the family resort afloat and trying to figure out who killed his dad. Sarah is the determined new girl with a spine of steel and a heart of gold. Both have secrets but there is one thing they have in common, the burning need to be together.

This is a slow burn romance spaced out over the course of three novels and I am so excited to see where A.S. Green will take them. It does end on a cliffhanger but rumor has it we won’t have to wait to long for the next book.

Into The Den is a slow burn, fated mates, shifter romance. Sarah is in witness protection and Reese and his siblings are running the family's Evergreen Resort after the death of their father. I loved the storyline, the interesting characters, the mystery, and the unexpected twists that pulled me in and held my attention until the last page. Into The Den is book one in the Secrets of the Northland Shifters series and I can't wait to read the next book. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Sarah saw something that a crime family did so she was put in witness protection and Reese’s had talked to the FBI before he was killed. Reese’s lion wanted her but from what his mother did he wasn’t sure about that. He made Sarah the event manager and she was saving the resort from the mess his father had. Good book!.

The characters in this book will draw you in and keep you turning the pages wanting more. There’s just enough information on the siblings to grab your interest and leave you needing to explore who they are. The Alpha and his mate have their charm, frustrations, and fears yet they can’t fight the gravitational force pulling them together.

Hiding in plain site!

Sarah is in witness protection until its time to testify against a mob boss. She discovers that the person the arrangements were made with has passed away.
Reese is trying to keep the family lodge going after his father's death. The more he gets into the paperwork side of it, the more he finds that doesn't add up.
Together with his siblings, they try to save the lodge.

3 stars! This book was pretty good I gave it three stars for a couple different reasons. Reese is a mountain lion shifter along with his siblings who are also mountain lion shifters are trying to deal with their dad's death by possibly at another person's hands. They're also dealing with running the lodge their dad founded and all the financial issues they are having with that. There's somebody who is sabotaging the success of their Lodge and they need to find out quickly who is behind it otherwise they're going to lose everything. Sarah is on the run with the help of the FBI. They need her to testify against a mob boss in Chicago for what she saw him do. Reese has immediate attraction to her when he sees her for the first time but he cannot fall for her due to what happened between his mother and father. His father failed to tell his mother what he was. She witnessed Reese shift for the first time when he was 17 and promptly ran away. Reese and his siblings always blamed the mother for her abandonment. I felt that's kind of wrong it seemed they never blame the dad for what he did and if the dad truly loved their mother and considered her to be his mate he should have told her from the very beginning with before any children were born of what he was. I was a little bummed at the author that she would write the mother as a bad person but it really wasn't her fault at all. Who knows how we would have acted if we were to witness that very same thing I'm sure we would have all would have ran but to blame the mother and put the anger feelings towards her was not right in my book. So both Reese and Sarah had secrets, she couldn't tell him that was she was in the witness protection program and he couldn't tell her he was a shifter. Reese just wanted to use her for sex which is a douchebag move on his part. She was having some serious feelings for him but was worried about the mob boss she had to testify against and the possibility of him(the bad guy) hurting him (Reese) and his family. Unfortunately Sarah once again see something she shouldn't see when she walks through the woods she stumbles across Reese changing from animal to man. And of course she runs but not away just back to the lodge. She vowed to help them with their problem and she was going to help them with their problem. She also felt she needed to help solve his dad's death. This book ends in a cliffhanger so if you don't like cliffhangers you might want to wait until July when the second book comes out. Unfortunately there's no sexy moments just some kissing and that's about it. This is a slow burn book LOL! But the plot held my attention. I just wish the mother got a better rap than what she was getting from her children.

I am a long time fan of Ms. Green, and own several of her current series’s so when I saw this book, I grabbed it as soon as I could. As usual, I am glad I did. The worlds and characters that Ms Green creates are enchanting and spellbinding. I loose myself in her stories and I end up on the edge of my seat more often than not. If you like any of Ms Green’s previous works, then grab this one too, you’ll be glad you did.

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

Into The Lion's Den by A. S. Green is the first book in the Secrets of the Northland Shifters series. From the title alone, it sounds like a wonderful novel to dive into and explore the world that the author has created. So far, that world is an interesting one. The characters are quite intriguing, too. I enjoyed reading from the point of view of both Sarah and Reese. They have secrets that they are keeping from each other, which makes for an interesting read. Each of them have traits that make them both likable and slightly annoying. That didn't stop me from reading the book, and I doubt it would stop other readers. I liked how there was light banters and a sensual tension between them that you could cut with a knife. Not to mention, the other characters in this story made it fun and enjoyable to read. The pace of the plot was nice and not as slow as I thought it would be. I would have probably liked it more if there were more moments of tension between the two characters. Other than that, the book was a lovely read and I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I recommend the book to anyone who loves paranormal stories with romance and mystery to it. I rate this four out of five stars.

A book with many sides and nicely mixes together to a wonderful story.
I get torn with certain types of audiobooks as feel reading physical books and your own narrator in your head allows imagination to create, but sometimes if good harmony comes together of book and narrator I can get to experience a book on the go when physical book not ideal. In this case the narrator and story combine well to create a good reading and listening experience.
I do love when mixed genres are combined well and this book does that with one of my favourite genres of supernatural along with mystery; enjoyable main characters with right amount of background details for trust and emotional issues; sexy romance; storyline complex and intrique that draws you in, has you guessing, few surprises, twists and turns and also a lovely ensemble of other characters that add the final enjoyable addition.
Ends on cliff hangar so excited to discover more and read next adventure.

Slow burn shifter story.
Reese and Sarah fight with each other as much as they work together to decipher clues about a murder and save a resort.
The story ends on a serious cliffhanger, and the relationship between Reese and Sarah is not resolved. Fortunately, the next two books are already available, so no long waits to find out what happens next.
While their relationship remains up in the air, the chemistry between Reese and Sarah is instant, hot, and believable.
I liked that the reader was able to experience the shifting process. I also really liked that Sarah was never a damsel. She made intelligent decisions and stood her ground.
Nathaniel Gray used an excellent growly alpha voice for Reese. He did well with the narration and other characters, too, but I particularly his reading of Reese.

This is the first book that I’ve read by this author. Like a lot of great books, I came across it on a list online. I love the story, and the characters and there’s just enough of a backstory for you to jump into it without feeling like you’re lost. I’m enjoying reading about the chemistry between Reese and Sarah, and I’m looking forward to where I am, hoping it’s going to go. That being said, the author kept reminding us that Reese was a mountain lion, and an alpha. We found that out in the first part of the book, and give us a little credit – I think we can remember it as we continue to read. It didn’t detract from the book, but that was one thing that I found a little annoying. It’s a great book, a great story, and I can’t wait to read more about the characters in this book I highly recommend it!

Into the Lion’s Den pulled me in from the very first word, I absolutely loved it. I listened to the audiobook, and Nathaniel Gray’s narration was fantastic. He brought Reese’s intensity, charm, and simmering emotion to life in a way that made the story even more addictive.

Reese Fitzpatrick is a mountain lion shifter suddenly thrust into running his father’s luxury resort, only to discover the business is teetering on disaster. Add the arrival of Sarah McAvoy, mysterious, frustrating, and irresistible, and the tension between them practically crackles. Their slow-burn chemistry, mixed with danger, secrets, and the looming threat of the hunter who killed Reese’s father, kept me glued to my headphones.

But I have to say… ending the book on a cliffhanger? Mean. Not cool, A.S. Green. I was not ready for that! Still, the ride was so good that I can’t even stay mad. If you love paranormal romance with heat, humor, and heart, plus an incredible narrator, this one is a must-listen.

Sarah and Reese

Well, this is the second recent read which felt very slow. Storyline had an interesting concept, however there were lulls found throughout the read. There were moments I had to force myself not to scan.

Secondary characters were good but not great. There is an untapped resource here. What little we learn about them they are interesting just not developed.

Sarah and Reese frustrated me at times. They would go days without speaking or completely ignore one another ....it just felt like juvenile behavior.

Even after these thoughts I still plan on giving book 2 a shot.....eventually.

Happy reading,
DD 🥂

Sarah is in witness protection and is placed in a remote luxury resort. Which should be fine, but she is immediately changed from housekeeping to events co-ordinater a more public roll than she is cofortable with.
Reese Fitzpatrick has taken over the resort after his fathers murder, the business is strugglig and ther seem to be a lot of accidents happening around the resort. Added to all this is his insane attraction to Sarah and the secrets they are keeping from each other.
The narration is excellent
This is agreat story and I am of to read the next book.

Into the Lion's Den is very well written; easy to listen to; and captivating. All the time, I was engaged in the story! The story continues into the next books, but it ended in a good place, so it can be read as a stand-alone.
Nathaniel Gray did a wonderful job of narrating this book. Although it would be even more enjoyable if the difference between male and female voices would have been more noticeable.
Altogether, a good entertainment value.

slow burn

I wish it was faster paced, you definitely have to finish the series in order to have any closure because this one is definitely opened ended. This book is definitely a slow burn. It was a good read, I really want to know how everything resolves itself. There are a few mysteries and I can’t wait to see how everything is entwined. The narration was good, however I wish it was a dual narration.
