How to tame a vampire isn’t in any of my spell books.
My life changed forever the night my coven was attacked. I was scared and alone until my bestie Leo showed up. I trust him with my life. Good thing since he dragged me to the home of a notorious vampire. Even worse, another equally terrifying vampire is in charge of keeping an eye on me.
I did my best to comply and keep my distance from the stoic, domineering man who I shared a room with. I may have tried to flirt with him a couple times, a totally dumb move considering vampires aren’t exactly fans of witches. It didn’t work anyway. Once I was able to get away from him and back to the safety of my coven, I hightailed it out of there. I thought I would quickly forget him. I was wrong.
When we reunite, Beto let’s a surprising secret slip, leading me to make a decision that we both might regret. Who am I to deny a man his need to submit? Will Beto decide to trust me with his desires? Can I learn to keep a vampire in check? Don’t know, but I’m up for the challenge. If the war doesn’t tear us apart first.
The Witch’s Power Play is an MM paranormal romance featuring a subby vampire who just wants to be good for someone, a sassy witch embracing his toppy side, a supernatural war causing havoc, a bunch of really annoying demons who show up at the worst time, and so much pining (at first). It is book two in the Covens of Eaton Falls series. Each book features a different couple with an ongoing conflict and therefore should be read in order.
I'm choosing not to rate this book. From one side because I'm not sure how to rate it from another because I wished I could give it more stars.
I was really excited about Preston's book but this wasn't his book. The main character wasn't the main character here. Leo (the MC in the previous book) was the main character here (or at least that is how it felt).
There wasn't a chapter of this book that was solemnly focused only on Pres and Beto, somehow Leo and Augustus were always there (even if it was only talking/thinking about Leo). I loved Leo so much in the first book but here I was screaming and wanted for him to get away.
Even though I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wished I'm sure a lot of people will like it. Especially people who loved Leo. I want to mention that the relationship and the dynamic between Leo, Augustus, Beto, and Pres was something amazing. Their bond is really powerful and beautiful. They are a found family and I was so happy for them. But I just got really frustrated because I didn't get to know Pres and Beto and it didn't feel like their story. This being said, maybe what I didn't like was "it's me, not the book" because I realize what the relationship between the four of them was. Maybe if we had three books and their joint dynamic was developed later I would have appreciated it more.
The book as a whole was really light, fluffy, and sweet and the romance was the type "you're my everything". We have vampires, witches, demons, ongoing war and mysteries to be solved.
What I didn't like in this book: The romance was lacking for me. It was insta-love and we didn't see how Beto and Pres's relationship formed and progressed. I usually don't mind insta-love but here we knew in the previous book they spend a lot of time together. However, we didn't see what happened during that said time. Maybe I expected to see more of their time together, how that spark began, and so on. While Leo and Augustus's love story felt real, Beto and Pres's love story didn't. But here again, I think the reason was because of Leo. Not even for one moment could I focus on Pres and Beto's relationship because Leo was there all the time.
The plot was also lacking for me but mainly because of Leo. Leo was the center, always and I mean always. I loved Leo, but this power imbalance... making him the one who is most powerful, the one who must be protected at all cost. It felt like he was king (or more like Augustus and him were kings), it looked like he is everything, and the others all paled in comparison with him (this is how I felt). The plot with Pres's powers was something that I didn't expect and liked at all too.
The parts I did enjoy in this book: being in this world again, meeting Pres's familiar (I loved this cat so much!!!), I loved the last chapter, I loved how Beto told Pres what he wants in bed, and the spice was really good too. What I enjoyed the most was that I buddyread it with @Gloria. ❤️ I was happy we had each other and screamed and got frustrated together!
I'm looking forward to the next book, I'm excited about Riley's story. I really hope the focus won't be on Leo again. I know he is important for the plot as a whole but still.
“Did you ever think that two somewhat hapless nature witches would be in charge of saving the world ”.
Segunda parte de “The vampires of Hollow Cove”.
Ummm...I really don't like writing negative reviews, it's not my thing but I just want to rant for a minute 😅 beware of spoilers!
These were the faces @magic_of_darkness_and_books and I the entire time -> 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
Long story short, I didn't love this as much as I expected to. Sooooo I love my romances sweet and fluffy, add a sprinkle of angst, it's a balanced diet. This one was 94.9% sweet lmao and I'm not about to raise my insulin levels like that ya feel me?
THE ROMANCE WAS NOT THE PLOT. It pretty much wrapped up at around 30%. Yes, we get all these cute scenes with Pres and Beto throughout, but all the sexual tension we saw in book 1 *poof* gone, disappeared, yeeted out of there. My interest and excitement followed. That was so disappointing 😞
And don't even get me started on the fact that the other 5.1% was about Leo. I loved Leo in book 1, but he makes up such a big part of the plot here that I got sick of it. I would like to point out that I understand that he plays a huge part in the overarching storyline. I know this. However, the constant focus on him (and Augustus) made Presley and Beto feel so one-dimensional. Not even sure they were the protagonists if I'm being honest.
Finally, the most infuriating part! Presley losing his powers when he got turned as a vampire. Why?!?!?!? What was the point?! It didn't enrich the plot, it was never aptly explained. The Witch's Power Play... where was the damn witch?! Quite frankly, it's false advertising if all these witches lose their powers the moment they become vampires. I said what I said.
Moral of this story, I will be reading book 3, because I've been promised a golden retriever vampire. Yes, I am a masochist 🥴
**Highlight of the entire experience was reading it with @magic_of_darkness_and_books 💚💚
This was such a weird experience. The couple had no chemistry between them,it was insta love and both Beto and Presley were boring and kinda unlikable. The whole book was just bizarre....the relationship between Beto,Presley,Leo and Augustus just left me feeling so confused. I hope the next book is better but I think I wil take a break from this series for awhile.
I didn't quite love these two as much as Auggie and Leo but I think that was more to do with the lack of pining and persuasion now we know vamps and witches can mate.
Still, Presley and Beto brought their own troubles before they got it on and I liked the role reversal in the bedroom.
I also loved how Pres dealt with the hand he'd been given instead of bemoaning his fate and I'm intrigued by what we found out about the demon Tempest.
I wanted to love this book, I really did. It was a solid continuation of the paranormal conflict Mia Monroe sets up in the first book of the series, and that story even foreshadowed Presley & Beto’s romance. I was really interested and on board with the action & suspense elements and tremendously enjoyed seeing Pres come into his own as Monroe advanced the plot.
Unfortunately, that’s where it ended for me. I just wasn’t feeling the intensity and connection I hoped for between these two. Instead, much of the romance seemed a little repetitive and contrived, and I found myself skimming some of the less intimate scenes because it felt inconsequential or unsubstantial to the overall story.
Maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind for this one? It’s possible - that definitely happens sometimes. Although, I’m not sure that’s the case here, because there were some parts of the book I was really into. I’ll definitely continue the series to see what happens with the demon threat and looming paranormal war.
The first one was kinda fun, the world building was interesting at least, but this? Super, ultra, insta love. They jump in with both feet and is so awkward from the beginning of the book already have both of them talking about fates, being soul mates, having a dog or a cat... Can we please have more romance built in the next book? This is super cheesy.
2 stars - For making Leo the main character in this story.
4 stars - For being a decent read with some yummy MM action and crumbs for the next book.
I was disappointed in this book because I felt like I was reading another installment of Leo’s HEA. I know that Leo is the focal point for the suspense in this world but I expected Pres and Beto in this story and I felt like they were after thoughts in many ways. I felt jipped even though I do adore Leo and his other half.
I felt like Pres and Beto deserved more in their romance development and I was confused about a few things that happened. Their love felt a little surface level to me but despite that this story was sweet with a heaping pile of spice.
This was not a bad read and I will definitely continue this series. I am not going to rate this on Goodreads because I don’t want to rate it low but I also won’t rate it high. So I’ll leave it at this.
““Okay, I understand.” “Good. I take my leave now.” “Thanks for coming.” “I will always come when you ask. I’ll see you soon.” “Yes, you will see me soon.” The cat disappears into a slight mist.”
— The Witch's Power Play (Covens of Eaton Falls Book 2) by Mia Monroe
There’s just so much I want to like about this series and story. Monroe is pulling together a interesting history of interwoven supernatural mating and wars, of inter-species bonding and Gods intervention.
All so fascinating that I really want to know where the author is taking the series.
But to navigate through the process of untangling the story threads, a reader must decide what’s their tolerance for characters whose dialogue is either so stilted or so overblown as to take a reader away from the story.
Leo and, here, Presley, the witches, are constantly “giggling “. That word is ever present. They had their heads together, giggling. He giggled. They giggled. Nonstop giggling. They also twirl, and just have personalities that, frankly, swing from varying degrees of maturity.
The vampires verbiage is oddly both a combination of something that supposedly sounds “old “ while also trying for hip. If you know what I mean. A strange unwieldy thing that doesn’t work.
Plus they go around carrying their witches as though they were young women from a bodice ripper.
While saying things like ‘I’m strangely attracted to him.I think of nothing else.’ Soooo many clichés here.
The characters themselves have real promise. Presley and Beto? Great dynamics and background. But you need to basically put them on mute after a while because it’s just to much. There’s a nice element of D/s here that is unexpected. But also a eye roll bit with the color pink . So for every one good thing that gets included, there’s bound to be another that’s zany.
There’s also a villain called The Beautiful One.
So. I breezed through this. Next time , if I continue, I’ll have to find a way to mitigate the dialogue and words that seem to populate like bunnies.
In the meantime, for those of you who adore this author, I’m sure you’ll have read it or it’s on your TBR list. It does have some really interesting themes going forward.

Covens of Eaton Falls: 🔹Never Trust a Guy With Fangs #1 🔹The Witch’s Power Play #2 🔹Vampire’s Make Bad Roommates #3 -July 14,2022 🔹Cosmic Spells and Vampire Lairs #4 - January 11, 2023 🔹A Traitor Shows His Hand #5 - March 9, 2023
Note: didn’t that last title seem a bit spoilery? So now we know the traitor is a guy. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to have said A Traitor Shows Their Hand? Hmmmm?
This is the second book in the Covens of Eaton Falls and I wasn't disappointed. Presley and Beto are great together, even though Beto was fighting it at first. The book is sweet, romantic, low angst, action-packed, with some intense moments, witty and funny. Presley is a sassy little thing and he doesn't let anyone talk or treat him any kind of way. Beto is just the man for him and he has a protective streak when it comes to Presley. The book had my attention from start to finish and with so many twists and turns, you will not want to put it down. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is the second story in the Coven of Eaton Falls series and it picks up immediately following the first. We meet both Presley and Beto in Never Trust a Guy with Fangs. Presley is a healing witch, he’s upbeat, full of energy and sassy. Beto is stoic, protective of Presley and conflicted by his desire for him. This story captured me from the beginning. I love the ongoing story line and cannot wait for the next one in the series. Overall, a fantastic read! The story was really well written, the pacing flowed so well that the story wouldn’t let me go, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My review is solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
I’m really loving this storyline and series. Still a little shocked, I’m so not a paranormal lover, but these guys are really cute and lovely. And I’m completely committed to finding out how this war will end.
I loved Beto and Presley. They were funny and quirky, and I adored the dynamic between them. Not just with the vamp being subby, but also with Presley coming into his own, and quite frankly, being a handful for Beto.
I also really loved the found family theme. I loved seeing it not just with Beto and Presley, but also along with Leo and Augustus. The four of them together were pretty endearing.
This is the second book in the Coven of Eaton Falls series. We met and fell in love with Presley in the first book and he was just as adorable in this installment. Only here, we get to see his come into his own and really be the man he is destined to be.
Beto has always been conflicted about his desire for Presley. He’s been told his whole life that witches and vampires cannot mix. Now that it’s been revealed that it’s not true, all bet are off. These two were so adorable together. Beto, while big and strong, truly desires to give up power and let someone else take over. Presley is more than ready for the job. They were definitely sexy together.
More than the sexy chemistry between Beto and Presley, it was lovely to see Presley really embrace who he was and have the confidence to make the moves he needed to. His rise to power was wonderful. Beto learns to stand back and support Presley and be there when Presley needs to decompress and deal with all the changes taking place. I loved that we had a big strong character in that role. It was very refreshing.
The continuing story arc about the coming war was engaging and so interesting. The world building in this book is intricate and so thought out. Monroe paints us a picture that is easy to see and makes you root for them to win. I can’t wait to see where Monroe takes us as the story progresses. This was another solid addition to the series!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
How often do we need to hear how much they love each other?
I would die for you. I love you more than I thought was possible. You’re so precious. I will protect you with my life. I would kill anyone who tries to hurt you. I love you so much. It’s so wonderous that we found each other.
We get it! How much filler and repetition do we need? It takes up about 1/3 of the book.
How does an editor and how do beta readers not address this??
Should not be used to describe this book, even though the word is over used when describe actions and character traits, it’s utterly lacking in that degree. The characters cause my teeth to grit with the sugar, my head to hurt with the lack of real depth to the Situation in which they find themselves. The whole book feels like it is written by someone in their late teens early 20s that tried to write something interesting and fell short of the mark with lack-luster characters.
I loved the first book in the series so much, but this one didn't click for me. I couldn't connect to the MCs at all - Presley reads like a teenager, and it felt like they were both making decisions that didn't make sense despite the fact that it was in close dual 1st person POV. They just Did Things without thinking about them (that the reader could see), or their doubts were somehow resolved off-page even in their own POV chapters.
We were introduced to Presley and Beto in the first book, and I'm so glad to see them in this second book of what is proving to be a very, very enrapturing series!
With the revelation that witches and vampires aren't quite the enemies they always thought they were, Presley wastes no time going right after what he wants - and what he wants is a surly vampire named Beto. While the threat of war still looms large over their heads, there's no time like the present for Beto and Presley to get to know each other better.
But of course, they're in the middle of a war. And with war comes absolute, pure chaos and change. So many changes, and in such quick succession, it makes my head spin. Just as Beto and Presley are willing to accept their attachment to each other, their relationship gets thrown for a loop. But the adapt - quickly. And they keep pushing forward, especially with the support of Leo, August, and their respective covens on their side.
But it's not all change and chaos. Some things are revealed, and do shed light to the overall tension and mystery of the series. However, the more things that are revealed, the more there is to question. But with the discovery of the person who seems to be at the heart of the war they're instigating, there's something to confront and combat, if not outright stop.
There is still far more danger ahead, and way more that needs to be revealed. But I'm hooked. And I can't wait to see what lies in store for our other sassy witches and not-so-devious vampires of the Eaton Falls covens.
I rated this book 4.5 stars, so I rounded it up to 5 stars. I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good addition to the Covens of Eaton Falls Series. The conflict during book one continues in this book, as well as the rest of the series. I really liked that Beto and Presley could finally act on their attraction that was obvious from when they first met during book one, as they know that witches are always fated mates to vampires. I also liked that even though they felt attraction to each other, it was different than both Augustus and Leo described as fated mates so they both chose to be with each other, even if fate ends up deciding differently. Wow, Presley goes through a major transformation during this book and I loved seeing him come into his own and realise he’s still powerful, just in a different way.
I thought that Beto and Presley were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. I also loved that Beto eventually struck up the nerve to be honest with Presley about his true desires, even though he was scared about Presley looking at him differently. It was a beautiful thing when he finally felt safe enough to be able to let go and allow Presley be in charge. The conflict with the demons are ramping up and each of the witches are being given a supernatural guard. Hmm some are more happier than others about their assigned guard. Lol Riley I’m talking to you. It just makes me even more excited about reading Riley and Laramie’s book next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
The witches power play is a super cute MM paranormal romance with loads of vampy, witchery goings-on. Featuring Beto a vampire with a heart and Presley a sassy witch that keeps his vampire on his toes. After so much pining and sexual tension between them both. They finally give in to their desires for eachother after being told that each has a fated mate. Their undeniable connection seems to be set in stone and on spiritual level that is palpable. With supernatural wars brewing and demon's causing havoc. Presley and Beto's love is put to the test and hard decision are made. This is the second book in the Covens Of Easton Falls Series and should be read in order with each book featuring a new couple and new conflicts. This was such a fun and a swoon worthy read with lots of steamy moments between a submissive vampire and an energetic, topping witch with powers of persuasion. I really recommend this series and the previous book Never Trust A Guy With Fangs was a treat too. I can't wait for the next installment.
60% DNF, i've pushed as much as i could but i was so disappointed in this like in so many ways i don't know what to start with. The BIGGEST annoying bullshit is that Presley lose his power....
like WTF if you are going to take all of the what makes the witches special and turn them into normal vampire why the f*ck introduce hybrids and just makes only one that's special when he's not the MC in the story anymore, like you should just put Leo and his mate the main characters in all the rest of the book and spare me this irritation.
Imagine my frustration when the MC turn into a sidekick then double it when the romance is not even on point like it felt flat.
I don't think I'll read the rest if all the other witches are just going to lose their power and turn into gap-filler for Leo. Like i don't know why the author took that much time in describing the witches different power if they all going to lose it at the end.
This is book 2 in the new paranormal series, Covens of Eaton Falls.
The covens (vampires and witches) continue to work on their distrust of one another so that they can work together to win this unknown war. More secrets are revealed about fated mates and vampire/witch relationships.
We met Beto (vampire warrior) and Presley (witch healer) in book 1 of the series. Leo's best friend Presley requires protection, after the attacks on their coven. Augustus, the head of the Eaton Falls vampire coven, asks his coven brother Beto for help.
This book is primarily about the relationship between Beto and Presley, but also continues on with the relationship of Augustus and Leo. Beto and Presley were attracted to each other from the beginning and now Presley wants him in his bed. Presley assumes they aren't fated mates but figures he could be his right-now mate. As Presley grows and changes, throughout the book, he finally comes into his own and finds his destiny.
We glean some new information about the demons and their leader and we find out more about the demon Tempest.
I can't wait to see what's next in the series as Mia world builds up to the final battle.
This series is so much fun! I am enjoying every minute of this new paranormal world Mia has created! Presley and Beto are absolutely precious! I have adored them since the first book. The sweet tender moments they shared were breathtaking. They were so sweet together! Seeing Presley really come in to his own and became the man he is destined to be was incredible. I felt like we truly get to see the real him in this book. Their chemistry lit my kindle on fire!!! They made the perfect match for one another. Even though Beto felt conflicted about his feelings at first he finally was able to just give in and let his heart be Presley’s. The way Beto learned to just step back and support Presley in his rise to power was truly beautiful. The love between these two men was sweet and spicy and I loved this book so much. There is truly some amazing world building within this series and I cant wait to dive into the next book!
I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.
POV: 1st Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Book 2 in the Covens of Eaton Falls series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
I enjoyed book one of the series but feel that book two has picked up the story and run with it. I love that Presley and Beto have their romance good here after getting to know them a little bit in Never Trust a Guy With Fangs. Theirs starts a bit earlier in the book this time and I think that works well as they have time to develop their connection and emotions in a way and timeframe that feels natural. I love the added bit of kink that arises, showing that alpha males can have that softer side to them. The series plot develops more with some more action and drama between the covens and the demons. Things happen causing big changes for Presley but he takes everything in stride, even really stepping up and take a leap of faith to help their side in getting ahead. There's a real found family bond between Presley, Beto, Augustus and Leo that makes them feel like the closest friends and it's clear they would do anything to protect each other, as well as the rest of their supernatural community. Really enjoyed this second book of the series, found myself more easily able to fall into the story and relationship. I'm looking forward to find out more about "the beautiful one" and their plan for basic world domination.
At 37%, I seriously wanted to DNF this book. Oh wait, I did.
I felt like I was reading a book about a California teenage surfer whose vocabulary consisted only of "cool" and "awesome" and "badass" and "like" and " totally" and other totally non-awesome and uncool, unimaginative words.
Also, there was, like, way too much talking and giggling (by Presley) and not enough doing. Like, gag me with a spoon.
With his limited vocabulary, Presley came across as an uneducated and formulaic teenager. There was unmet potential to make his character so much more interesting, but the author didn't take it. Beto was like, totally cooler but when giving the reader his history via conversation with Presley, I like, totally lost interest b/c I could just picture Presley as a kid sitting in Beto's lap like a kid does with his grandfather, hanging on every word and looking up at his idol adoringly with his thumb in his mouth, drool running down his chin. Not sexy or like, cool, at all.
And as soon as Beto announced he wanted Presley to dominate him, I literally gagged on a spoon. To me, the only thing Presley was capable of dominating was...shit, I can't even think of a single thing.
I am really enjoying the Covens of Eaton Falls series, I like the way the books continue on from the previous one and things don't get rehashed all over again.
As Leo's best friend in book #1 Never Trust a Guy With Fangs, this time around it's Presley's turn to get his vampire. In book #1 Presley was assigned Beto to guard/look out for him, and we know he and Beto had definite chemistry between them that they both were fighting, one of the reasons, the curse, is no longer a reason and these two are finally able to act on their feelings. I really liked that once they'd established they were both interested that they were both all in, and things certainly got steamy for these two.
Presley has some tough things to deal with after getting together with Beto and I loved that he was able to take control and realise how strong he was even without his magic. He was much more capable than he believed and once he saw what he could do and learned to have confidence in himself, there was no stopping him.
We learn a bit more about the demons and the leader 'the beautiful one' (as named by Presley) behind their war, but there are still many questions to uncover. The supernatural community are all going to have to pull together if they are going to defeat whatever 'the beautiful one' has planned.
I am really looking forward to the next instalment.
I am thoroughly enjoying the PNR side of Mia's writing. Its fun, imaginative, and so dang steamy. The world building is magnificent. This is low angst with lots of thrills.
In book one, we saw the beginning of a war with an unknown enemy that brings the Vampires and Witches together to fight for their lives. This story brings us the continuation of the story, centered on witch, Presley, and vamp, Beto.
When going to look at their old home that was destroyed by demons, Presley is shot and Beto has to make the decision to turn him into a vampire. Presley has to figure out his place in the world again and decides to go to an unknown underground and a ton of stuff happens. Including see the person who may be behind it all. You'll have to read it to see what happens and it's totally worth it.
These men are absolutely gorgeous together. There was some internal drama that I wish had been sped up but it was (mostly) central to the story. This wasn't my favorite Mia story of all time but I truly enjoyed reading it. I'm loving this series so far and am really looking forward to the next.
Hm. Eh. And that basically says it all. I don't know where to put this part: I'm not saying it was bad, but I'm not saying it was good. Everything that worked in the previous part was missing here. It was boring, uninteresting, unengaging. It focused entirely on the relationship between Beto and Presley, which wouldn't have been a problem if it had been a relationship like Augustus and Leo. Well, it wasn't. I felt nothing, not even sparks really, but the relationship moved faster and better than in the previous episode. I wasn't surprised that I didn't really like the story or the couple, because I didn't feel a connection between them in the first volume, but I was surprised by how much I didn't.
I get a bit of a feeling that the author, after the strong start, deliberately threw in a story that she didn't really know what to do with either, so that we could then move on to the others - I support the idea.
I'm not saying the book isn't basically three stars, however, if I were to be a little less kind, after the _five_ stars of the first volume... it would actually only be two and a half.
