I’ve spent the last eight years bullied by my own pack for being half human. Now I’m eighteen and finally ready to leave this hell hole.

When the clock strikes midnight I’ll be free… or so I thought. Because instead of finding freedom, I find myself mated to the alphas son.

STORY:
WHAT I LIKED:
This story pulls me in and has spark my curiosity. It’s fast paced and short, but gave you enough information where you are curious to see what will happen. Eden is half human half wolf and already doesn’t get the respect from anyone in her pack. She has been bullied and left on her own. The moment she turns 18, like most females in her pack, you are shown your true mate, yeahhhh fun…. Uummmm, yeah, no, not for Eden, MAJOR REJECTION. Thus starts her interesting story. Paxton is the alpha’s son, it’s a novella, book 1 so the jury is still out on him. However, Eden, so far has spunk and I am loving her attitude when life throws her crap. I really found myself enjoying this quickly.

WHAT WAS SO SO:
Cliffhanger, so we must wait.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
No sex yet, but build up of sexual tension is satisfactory.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I really like Luna and hope we will see her more.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes. Did I like the story? Yes with a few buts. Would I read the other books in the series? Yes, my curiosity has heighten with this quickie read.

TRIGGERS: roofie/drugged

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is a series. Eden is the first book, Mate is the next book, Bond is the third book releasing March 9 2022, and Home is the final book in the series, releasing March 30 2022. Please read in order.

Trigger Warnings: bullying, attempted rape, date rape drugs, assault, mention of death, child abuse.

Well this book was a quick, steamy, and slightly heavy book.

Eden has had a difficult life, as she is half human and half-wolf, never getting accepted by her pack for this.

On her 18th birthday, she is rejected by her mate, the alpha's son as she is seen not good enough for Paxton and his family.

She runs, and trouble ensues from there, with Paxton close on her tail (literally and figuratively).

I mean I could definitely connect with the heroine on several aspects: being bullied, made to run from your own classmates and stuff because damn you're just not their type, and guys being all a-- because shit ya don't look like what they want. So yeah, Eden was my spirit animal in this case.

Paxton - eh maybe he'll redeem himself in later books. But to me, he was the stuff of my own nightmares, tad too cruel and cocky for his own good - imagine being stuck with someone like him for life. But in my heart, I feel maybe there's something good in him left - or maybe my naivety talking but eh I do hope, a chance, he'll redeem himself.

The side characters - who needs them - aside from Luna and Carter (can we please get a story for them cause I think it'd work) - that they are all so damn prejudiced, reminds me of my own days - that really no one needs them.

The romance comes in the next book, I do believe. Right now, it's all about Eden's escape routes, and Paxton trying to act like James Bond.

So yeah a really intriguing, short read by Darcy rose - making me look forward to more. Mate is the next book in the series - already released.

Until the next read,

-TMR

“Eden” is the story of Eden and Paxton.

Angsty fated mates novella where our poor heroine is rejected by the pompous hero, and finally escapes her abusive pack. As her journey to finding herself begins, hero tracks her down and we get a cliffhanger lol

Fun intro to the serial romance. The story is told solely through Eden’s POV and I look forward to hearing from Paxton and seeing how things progress in the next book because that cliffhanger ending was a crazy one.

Eden has been shunned most of her life. She's the daughter of a human and a shifter. She doesn't have a wolf form. And having been orphaned at a young age, she's been dealt an even worse hand in the adoptive parents she was sent. They give her barely enough to live, seemingly following along with the backwards rules of their pack alpha.

So imagine everyones surprise when on her coming out day, her eighteenth birthday, it's revealed that Eden's true mate is someone of great importance to the pack. Now imagine being the Eden. She thought this would be her salvation. Her moment to shine and finally be accepted. But to instead be rejected by her fated mate. That was a the last blow.

Her only thought is to run and never look back. Her need to escape is greater than her desire to be accepted. A few calamitous events ensure and int he end it seems it's not so easy to break that mate bond, even when it hasn't been solidified. Some things are meant to be and nothing will keep you separated.

🖤 PNR set in a human world
🖤 rejected fated mates
🖤 child endangerment/abuse by foster parents

This one maybe could have been a higher rating if it wasn't in 3 books and so short. I feel so bad for Eden because she's a orphan to this pack who doesn't like her because she is half human. She's treated like dirt and even from the guy she likes.. but he bully her to. Now that it's her 18th birthday she can move on but drama happens she finds her mate and it happens to be Paxton the alpha son and bully.

Reject and accused of putting a spell on Paxton she leaves. Determine to make it in the outside world without anyone.. but Pax even if he rejected her he's following her. I'm glad Eden didn't give in and kept her guard up. Ends with her in a bear trap...

This is a rejected mate's romance between Eden and Paxton. Eden is half-human and has been bullied by her whole pack because of this her whole life. Paxton is the Alpha's son who has been nothing but mean to Eden. So when they realize their mates, Paxton publically rejects her.

This was just okay. I am really frustrated and put off by the author writing this series as 4 separate books. Why not put all the books together? Each book is only 50 pages. I am not a fan when authors do that.

TW: parent death, abusive/controlling adoptive parents, child neglect, drugging,

2 stars ✨

KU is down and so I’m really just reading the random stuff already downloaded on my kindle which is apparently 50 page super strange fanfic level books idk.
This was really the equivalent to a story written by a middle schooler on wattpad.
I am not going to lie the cringe was funny though which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.
Would I recommend anybody else read it? I mean if you have it downloaded already and KU is down so you can’t read anything else, then sure. Otherwise, no lmao

Eden de Darcy Rose serie Sacred Hill Rejects libro 1

Argumento:

EDEN

THIS BOOK ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER!!

This book is part of a 4 book series… and apparently we only get the entire thing by the end of March!

I hate cliffhangers and had no warning whatsoever about that fact!

The book itself was ok.
The story needed more development but it was interesting enough that I want to read more. Ofc I’ll only read the 3 others when the collection is complete… so, expect an update by the beginning of April.

Eden gets rejected by her pathetic sob of a mate, Paxton, on her 18th birthday. She decides to leave the pack and town that has bullied her since she lost her parents at age 10.

She meets some creeps in the woods who attempt to use a date-rape drug on her. She escapes but due to that and police questioning, her fear calls to Paxton. Immediately he goes to her and tries to help... which she refuses. She walks away and gets trapped on a bear trap. The end!

So.. not much happened. It's low on spice and unless Paxton does some major groveling in the next one, I might not finish this series. We'll see!

important bits:
unknown if virgins (nothing has happened lol)
light bullying
no OM/OW
no cheating
safe thus far
cliffhanger ♡

I needed something quick to pass my night, and this was surprisingly good to have been so short. It was feeling like a complete story, with lots of detail, until I got to the end and realized that it was going to end on a cliffhanger. While I really enjoyed the story, I'm not sure if I will pick up the next book.

It was okay

A quick read that had a good plot idea but the execution was a little rough for me.

The MC was a little annoying with the constant poor me thought cycle and when she finally stood up for herself, she didn’t do anything with her new found freedom except mope so I think I just didn’t find her relatable abs am not a fan of the ‘flight’ response as opposed to the ‘fight’- especially in an MC.

Aside from that though, the story line intrigued me and maybe it is explored deeper in the next books in the series.

It was an okay read but it wasn’t one I’d be likely to re-read.

I've read Darcy Rose before so I knew that her latest romance, Eden, would be good. But I wasn't prepared to have all the feelings! I cried during the first few pages and then couldn't put it down as I raced to the finish. Eden is a paranormal shifter romance. I've read these before and they do tend to get repetitive. But this one was a breath of fresh air - Eden is rejected by her mate - something I've never read before. This book was - to me - a brand new take on a tired trope.

Eden is half wolf shifter, half human. When her parents die she is left at the mercy of her pack, and they do not treat her well. For eight years she is bullied and belittled and made to feel like she doesn't belong. On her 18th birthday, everyone is shocked, including Eden herself, when she finds herself mated to the alpha's son Paxton. But in a horrible turn of events, Paxton rejects Eden as his mate, and Eden decides to leave her pack. Will she be able to make it in the human world on her own? And can she and Paxton deny fate, or will they still be pulled together as mates?

I loved Eden as a character. She is so sympathetic and I really wanted her to stand on her own two feet and finally come into her own. Darcy Rose creates a different shifter world from what I have read before. There are other supernatural beings mentioned which is interesting and I wonder how they might come into play later on. This is a short book, only a few chapters, and does end on a cliffhanger. And I am so looking forward to the next part of Eden's story.

Eden and Paxton . . .

Bullied and ignored by the pack she was given to when her parents died, half human-half wolf shifter Eden is turning 18 and can’t wait to leave. This is the time when a female’s mate is revealed to her. Maybe he will love her and things will get better? But Paxton, the alpha’s son, turns out to be her mate and his father won’t allow it. He is forced to reject her. She has had enough disappointments and she is ready to leave.

When Paxton follows to see that she is okay, she has fallen asleep under a tree to get out of the rain. He hears her moaning his name and he joins her on her blanket. He doesn’t realize she is asleep and dreaming of him as he touches her. When he brings her to her satisfaction, she opens her eyes and is furious to see she is not alone! She shoves him away and runs through the woods to get away from him. But what happens when she steps into a bear trap? Wolves heal quickly, but she won’t heal if she can’t get free of the trap.

Eden
By Darcy Rose
I recieved this book as an ARC and I have to say... I loved it.
As a fan of PNR, especially wolf shifter / rejected mate stories I was very excited as I read about this
book.
Once I started to read I was in it so deep, it brought me directly to tears, and I do not cry easily.
I felt so so sorry for Eden from the very beginning and wantded to hug her and never let go. I
couldn`t understand the behaviour of the pack, so cold and cruel. It shouldn`t be this way. I liked
that Eden found some strength, power und brave. Hopefully she stays that way. I still can't quite
figure out Paxton. His contradictory actions and words. I'm curious where this will lead. Maybe he
will quickly find the right way. The only thing that bothered me was that the book ended too quickly.
Looking forward to volume two. Beautifully and fluidly written, no unnecessary info. Nothing too
drawn out in length. Highly recommended.

I genuinely liked Eden from the very beginning of this book. More so as the book progressed and you find out everything that happens to her. Which is a lot considering shes been brought up by a pack that hate her because shes a half human/half wolf orphan. Honestly i didnt have a lot of time for Paxton. He didnt have a backbone in regards to sticking up for Eden and to then go on to reject her. He just annoyed me. Ill see how it goes on with him in future books. I loved Luna and i hope that she gets more book time in the future. A great cliffhanger ending. Now i cant wait to see what will happen next because this book was good

This is such an emotional and heartbreaking story. Eden is left to the mercy of her pack after the death of her parents. She lives a life of abuse and neglect. She is hoping for a second Chance when she turns eighteen but things only become worse. This story is an emotional, quick read and keeps you turning the pages until that surprise ending. I can’t wait for the next book. I hope Eden finds sone happiness.

THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE STORY- THIS IS PART 1 of a 4 PART STORY.

I LOVED book 1 and was totally sucked in! I started it as a separate book and didn’t realize it was 4 books = 1 complete story, so I was freaking out not knowing what came next when it was finished. I was soooo happy to realize the story continued ❤️

***REVIEW FOR COMPLETE 4-PART STORY****

Eden had one shifter parent and one human parent, which wasn’t considered acceptable (not pure blood) in their wolf-shifter pack. With that attitude I don’t know why they stayed with the pack as I assume all 3 were treated with much hostility, but we never know because the book starts when Eden turns 18. She starts the book by saying she was severely bullied, starved and mistreated since her parents died 8 years ago (hence my confusion because it really seems like everyone would have bullied her forever since she’s never been pure blooded). But let’s ignore that and move on….

The second Eden turns 18…POOF….MAGIC…..Eden and the alphas son Paxton are both overcome with a WAVE OF FEELINGS for each other. I hate the arbitrary “magical midnight on the 18th birthday” thing in any book (just to make the sex that occurs consensual between 2 ADULTS🙄). But let’s ignore that and move on….

The entire pack, including her mate Paxton continues to bully and reject Eden. Paxton is and has forever been a complete jerk/ bully/ a$$hole to Eden and nothing has changed since becoming her mate. But let’s ignore that and move on….

Eden leaves the pack to go live on her own but Paxton chases her down. Paxton, who still believes their mating is a mistake because “some witch MUST have put a spell on them” because NO-WAY could Eden ever be his mate (blah, blah, blah…). So he does LOTS of even worse things to Eden but now feels justified “BECAUSE OF FEELINGS”. But let’s ignore that and move on….

In the end Paxton doesn’t care if it’s a spell or real, HE decides to keep Eden and the book ends.

What does Eden want?

It apparently does not matter “BECAUSE OF FEELINGS“.

So Paxton and Eden hate each other but fate has chosen them to be mates so now they are together BECAUSE OF FEELINGS and the years and years of abuse and neglect are swept under the rug with no apologies “BECAUSE OF FEELINGS”. The end.

Haha! I know it sounds like I didn’t like the book BUT I kinda did. The plot, while insanely crazy unbelievable, kept me hooked. The hate sex was off the charts (I wanted way more though). And watching Paxton learn more about the pack’s treatment of Eden, made me want to give Eden a big hug (and kick Paxton to the curb, but again….hate sex😉).

I felt like the story needed fleshed out more. There DEFINITELY needed to be MORE ending to Paxton and Eden’s story. We DO NOT GET A HEA. We get optimistic talk of a future potential for a HEA, but Eden and Paxton HAVE A LOOOOONNG ROAD AHEAD OF THEM IF THEY WANT A FUTURE TOGETHER. There could definitely be another book, just to give a satisfying conclusion to their story.
But let’s ignore that and move on….

There also seems to be spin-off potential with another fated mate coupling, that would tie into the imaginary next book but nope…. It would definitely help wrap this story up more since the new couple leaves with Paxton and Eden to go off and create a new life together (and start a new pack?🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️).

Eden (Sacred Hill Rejects #1) by Darcy Rose presents a jarring juxtaposition of young adult themes and mature content, resulting in a reading experience that feels tonally dissonant and narratively underdeveloped.

The premise, a half-human character ostracized by her pack and unexpectedly mated to the alpha's son, holds potential, but the execution falters under a series of questionable choices.

Eden's constant dwelling on her past, rather than actively shaping a better future, undermines her supposed resolve. A truly strong character would acknowledge their past traumas but not allow them to define their present and future actions. The constant lamenting becomes tiresome and detracts from any potential empathy the reader might have for her situation.

Furthermore, the male lead's portrayal is equally problematic. The assertion that "you can't argue with a wolf, especially his because it's an Alpha," paints a picture of unchecked dominance rather than the controlled strength one expects from an alpha figure.

The dialogue, particularly surrounding the intimate scenes, raises concerns about consent and agency, with the male character's disregard for the female's concerns and potential pleasure leaving a distinctly unsettling impression.

Ultimately, this book struggles to deliver on its promise of strong, compelling characters. Instead, the leads are portrayed as emotionally immature and lacking the strength and control typically associated with the shifter genre. This, coupled with the confusing blend of young adult and mature themes, results in a narrative that fails to fully engage the reader and ultimately leaves a sense of disappointment

☢️☢️☢️Spoilers and Mention of SA☢️☢️☢️

I was going to give this book three stars, but then the MMC went really rapey by the third book. I understand that there are some hard kinks out there, and I am not the one to judge someone’s sexual preferences.

There were multiple instances where:

*He feels right to start something with her in her sleep just because she moaned his name once.

*He says she couldn’t stop him from initiating sexual acts even if she wanted to. And some other scenes with the same kind of theme. He uses this to explain his wolf’s urges.

*Drugs and Kidnaps her, brings her back to the pack. Fully aware that coming back here is the last thing that she wanted.

These are the moments that stood out for me. I’m sure there were more but I can’t put myself to read through it all again…

If you actively seek out dub-con/non-con themes, this may not bother you. But if you want or need clear consent, or prefer to avoid SA content I strongly recommend skipping this series.

I'll be blunt - I'm irritated by this book. It's well-written for the most part. It flows well, it's easy to read, and the plot is interesting - even if it's a pretty common one. I like the main character.

But, and this is a big one: it's literally a chapter 1/2. I didn't realize going into it, that the book was only 55 pages (and that's pretty generous, not all of those 55 pages are story). It's not a short story either - as much as I dislike short stories, I could have at least understood the length then… but no. The author literally took a complete book, cut it into tiny snippets, and released them as individual books. It's not a book. It's a sample. Get it while it's free, because I definitely would not pay for it.

Sacred Hill Rejects: The Complete Series. four It contains book 1-4 of short shifters novellas. Eden was bullied by her own pack for being half human from she young all the way up to her adolescent years. Now she's eighteen and she's just wanted to get away from everyone. Eden mate turns out to be Paxton but he didn't believe it and let his friends got into his head. She's rejected, neglected, abused, and rape, and outcast. Sacred Hill Rejects was light on the action, drama, suspense and heavy on the emotions, heartaches, pain, and survival. Great storyline will complex characters.

I received an advanced copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
