Bayou With Benefits

Rate this book
They are friends. Without benefits. Unfortunately.

Michael LeClaire is small-town Louisiana. A firefighter. A single dad.

And Amelia Landry is New York City. A social media influencer. A model.

Sure, she’s his son’s favorite person on the planet.

And yeah, their families spend so much time together it’s hard to remember who shares DNA and who just shares secrets, inside jokes, and a sincere lack of boundaries.

And okay, he’s seen her nerdy side. Her sweet side. Her funny, self-deprecating side.

Fine, yes, resisting this woman has taken a saint’s share of willpower.

But he has to. He just cannot do long-distance. And he can’t have a casual fling with someone he’s known–and will know–forever.

Thankfully, he only has to hide his feelings a few times a year when she visits.

And then, he slips. One time. One spontaneous I-knew-it-would-be-everything kiss and he’s a goner.

Now every time they see each other it's harder and harder to ignore the heat.

And when she shows up on his doorstep after a car accident changes her entire life, there’s no way he can resist the chance to see if this can last…or if they’ll finally flame out.

Bayou with Benefits
By Erin Nicholas

I LOVE the Badges of the Bayou series! It’s everything an Erin Nicholas series is plus more!!! Bayou With Benefits is the second book in the series and is Michael LeClaire, single dad, fire chief, and all-around hot bayou man’s chance at a HEA. It is glorious and beyond amazing! Ami Landry, cousin to the Boys of the Bayou and Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild Landry’s is a model and beauty queen, social media influencer and the new face of a Bella Bobbi cosmetics. Ami also has a fabulous relationship with Michael’s son Andre with their love of all things Warriors of Easton. Erin Superfans will remember the successful game from the Hot Cakes series. You don’t have to read the other series to know who Michael and Ami are because they are brought to life in Bayou with Benefits with all their brilliant imperfections.

Could they be more different? Maybe not, but it doesn’t stop the attraction between Michael and Ami, though they are not going to act on it. She lives in NYC and he in Autre, LA. His life and family are in Autre, and he needs to be near his significant other to be able to ‘fix things’ when the unexpected happens. Ami loves her new job in NYC and has no intention of moving back to Louisiana. However, after an accident changes the course of her life, Ami is ready for something new… and that’s in Autre, with Michael.

Watching Ami and Michael grow and learn from each other was beautiful. I loved that Ami realizes her opinion isn’t the only one that matters and is willing to accept other views that don’t match her own. Michael who cares so deeply, also grows and learns he can’t always be the fixer and sometimes, even if he can be, maybe he shouldn’t. He's such a strong hero, yet willing to become more when needed. I love Andre, while a great kid, isn’t perfect and gets into some emotional things he needs help to handle.

Of course, the cousins of the loud and loving Landry family get involved as do Ellie and Leo the matriarch and patriarch of the family. I literally clapped when I knew more Leo advice was coming. And it is perfect! Any book I read by this author makes me laugh, sigh (in a good way), and shed a tear or two (also in a good way). It can be heart breaking and heartwarming with a touch of humor all in the same paragraph. From laughter and silliness to love and warmth, I highly recommend this book and this series. I received an arc of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a beautiful story of how a woman could overcome a tragic accident and help others with the help of the man who loves her. Beauty pageant winner, Ami, lost her beauty in an instant one night in a car accident. It true romance fashion, the man that saves her is the one man she loves - Michael. Through some ups and downs, Michael, his son, Andre, and Ami take turns saving one another. Ami is a strong and empowering woman who fights for what she believes in. Michael and Andre help her every step of the way. I also enjoyed revisiting some characters from other Erin Nicholas’ books. While we didn’t have new animals to the Bayou, we did revisit with some otters! I got my cute animal fix! Leo also took the lead as the elder (instead of Ellie) with the words of wisdom to show our couple the way happiness!

Michael and Ami are INTENSE and ah-mazing! These badges of the Bayou surely know how to take on the Landry Boys and give them a run for their money when incredible bayou boys are concerned.
Michael is not only a first responder but also a single dad of an incredible ten years old. Oh and madly in love with Ami, even thought he is clearly trying to stay away from her. But he cannot stay away for long from his son's favourite person, even more so because she's crazy about him too!
Although this new series sometimes tackles heavier and more serious topics (in this case, the acceptance of scars and the consequences of accidents and the role of make up to empower women) it always does it with the same humour and happiness typical of Erin Nicholas, which I simply adore. I can't wait to see more of these badges!!

5 Everything You Could Want Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free-A Quick Review
Yes, I promise a Quick Review because I know how annoying it can be when people keep repeating themselves about a subject. My love for Erin Nicholas and her creation of these Bayou characters for her recent series is renowned. All you need to do is look at any of the reviews I have done, and you will "feel the love".

The joke is it is Always Sincere because when Ms. Nicholas gives us these books, she somehow is able to present characters we can openly adore, feel as if they are real, and also have complications like us in Real Life.

What's Not To Love????

In this book, we get two people who have always had each other's back, the type of friendship all would want, and the shared love of a young son.
They had that "chemistry thing" but never ever acted on it because technically, they had no future as she was destined to leave Autre and become an in-demand model in NYC. He was a fixer, and caretaker of those he loves, becoming a firefighter, and would never leave that town.

Impossible.

But then life happens and changes the location and our gal's path. Does that mean there is a chance for these two...YOU BET YOUR BAYOU, there is.

This was everything Erin Nicholas does...fantastic.

"Like sprinkles and ice cream" is exactly how Michael, Amelia and Andre go together- perfectly! Michael is a single dad, firefighter and most of all a fixer. He fights to resist his attraction to Ami because she is not staying in Autre- but her love for his son, her beauty and her heart makes it difficult for him. Life throws them a curve and wasting time resisting what they really want is no longer an option but can Michael deal with things when he can't make everything okay?

So... Goodreads makes me give the book a star rating now in order to write a note here. LOL! That's a bit obnoxious from the author...but I do really love this one! hahahaha!

I'm so excited to bring finally bring you Michael LeClaire and Amelia Landry's book!

You haven't really met Ami yet. She's just been on the periphery as Charlie's sister. But Michael has been around since Otterly Irresistible... the fire chief, object of many an Autre girl's crush over the years, Naomi's brother, friend of all the Bayou boys, and just all-around great guy that everyone depends on no matter what!

He was there to help patch Zeke up after his run-in with the goats the night he met Jill ;) , he was with the Cajun Navy during the hurricane in Sealed With A Kiss, he helped Zander out with some search and rescue in Say It Like You Mane It, and he really loves to give Spencer a hard time as you saw in Gotta Be Bayou ;). He even made an appearance over in a Bad Boys book or two!

(and no, you don't have to have read ANY of those to enjoy this book! :) Jump right in here... you will definitely get to know Michael LeClaire--firefighter, single dad, sexy, yummy bayou boy--very well! ;) )

And now it's his turn! Oh boy, I loved writing this book! I knew he and Ami would be a friends-to-lovers story, but I really didn't know how it would all play out for sure. Their book takes a *journey*! You get to see how they go from "she's the younger sister of a friend and babysits my son sometimes" to "I want you so much but can't have you" to "oh yeah, we're definitely doing this" to "uh oh, now what?"

I can't wait for you to experience their story! There's spicy, sweet, and swoony. There's pining and slow-burn yumminess and then, when Michael finally decides he's going for what he wants...he's allll in!

Welcome back for the second installment of the Badges of the Bayou!

Embracing a new path together

I loved Michael and Ami’s friends to lovers story. I especially liked the plot device of showing us the moment Ami’s life and their relationship shifts super early in the book and then backing the story up and walking us back to the big moment. I got so invested in the story this way - I wanted to go back to see what was happening but at the same time I wanted to see how they got to that point. I just love a book that grabs me and takes me for such an enjoyable cannot put it down ride. This is a book that reminds you that good things can result from bad events and that everything’s going to be okay. Michael is a single dad and a paramedic in small town Autre, LA. Ami is a model and lives in New York City but has family from Autre. Ami and Michael have feelings for each other but have agreed not to pursue it because of the distance. But then a car accident changes everything. You’d think the journey to their HEA would be easy from that point forward but that’s where the hard part begins. There’s a lot of growth and change for the characters along the way. This is not another light breezy romcom though there are definitely laugh out loud moments. This story has character depth, deeper emotions, and grit. I especially loved that Andre, Michael’s son, was a wonderful and integral addition to the story rather than a flimsy story prop. The story of course has plenty of hilarity, steamy scenes, sweet moments, family support, painful pasts, big feelings, and small town goodness. I willingly reviewed an early copy of this book.

The juxtaposition of small town easy going characters with complex situations is what Erin Nicholas excels at and this was no exception. A beautifully crafted story of friends to lovers through adversity. Seeing Michael move from his black and white thinking to seeing some shades of grey was lovely, as was seeing Ami recognise true empowerment comes from being able to make your own decisions. Although at times things may seem all or nothing, it’s the spectrum and different lived experiences they help each individual.

Oh, and the spice was marvellous, as one would expect from this talented writer!

Really loved this and would have read it and loved it just as much even if I hadn’t been gifted an ARC.

4.5 stars

Another amazing story is told; I love my visits with the Landry family and their “friends”. While this book has the humor we are used to, it also brings a little edge, which is refreshing.

Michael and Ami have been friends forever and their families longer. She is city, and he is rooted in Louisiana, with a family and a career. He is fighting the attraction, but she loves his son. Her life changes paths, and she finds herself back in Autre.

This book grabbed me and held on, I could have read it in one day, but I did not. It is an emotional, romantic, delicious slow burn with heartwarming, imperfect characters.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

4.5 stars. New to me author but definitely will be trying more of her books.

This one was different than most romances. We know from page 1 that these two really like each other. The timeline goes back a little to catch us up on how that all comes out and then we get to see them get together.

At 50%-ish, the book almost felt done. Like “ok, that was good. Those two are sweet together and I’m happy”. But then, the author dealt with some issues.

The hero is so sweet. He’s lovely and he wants to be there and fix things. The reason they don’t get into a relationship in the beginning is that he can’t stand to do a long distance relationship where he’s not able to fix things for her.

The learning after the 50% mark includes her understanding what she needs and then working out how he doesn’t get to fix everything for her.

It was really well done. And I appreciate the therapy rep in this. This is not one of those romances where the relationship is responsible for healing them completely. I like that. It felt fairly realistic as well as romantic.

It also includes his very cool kid and him dealing with some learning of his own.

The only thing that marked this down for me was that they both liked each other but hooked up with other people. It’s before this book starts but I like feeling like my main characters are each other’s as soon as they are interested. But they had made conscious decisions not to pursue each other. Mostly because of his aversion to a long-distance relationship.

5 star review Bayou With Benefits (Badges of the Bayou #2) by Erin Nicholas

I could not wait to dive into Bayou With Benefits which is single dad and fire fighter Michael LeClaire and Amelia Landry a big city model and the total opposite to Michael.
I loved their journey, their slow burn romance ticked every box for me. Not only was their story romantic, it was steamy and the chemistry that sizzled between them was electrifying. I fell hard and fast for Michael, not only is he totally swoon worthy, caring, protective, but the relationship he shares with his son Andre melted my heart. Neither of them want a long distance relationship but their attraction is impossible to ignore.
Amelia (Ami) is such an independent, strong and successful businesswoman who I admired. After a car accident turns her life upside down, Mi has the chance to take stock of her life and realizes she wants Michael in her life.
Ami has a long journey to recovery and the journey was rocky. Through it all Michael was their to support Ami and that made for a wonderful story. A great addition to the Badges of the Bayou series.

Small Town Opposites, Friends to Lovers with Heat, Heart, and ALL the Feels

This book just has it all and was perfect in every way! It was set in Autre and revisits favorite friends and animals from previous books and series - not necessary to to read in order to enjoy this book but also all wonderful and available on KU if you happen to have it. Michael and his son Andre have appeared in previous books and it was time for the single dad (his wife died in an accident when Andre was a baby) to finally get his story. He and model/influencer Ami have been friends forever and the best part is that she has always had a wonderful and separate "gaming geeky" relationship with his son Andre over Ollie from the Hot Cakes series video game - fun when he comes to town! It was great seeing Ellie, Leo, and all of the various animals (Michael has a foster pet calf who thinks it is a dog along with his 2 dogs!). Michael doesn't want to do "long distance" so won't let anything develop until a car accident forces Ami to move back to Autre and then the fun really begins. There are deep feelings and heartfelt discussions around women's beauty, and covering up what is natural vs. hiding and society's expectations of perfection. I enjoyed Ami's growth and the discussions around this topic. I also liked that Michael was also able to grow and realize that he doesn't always have to "fix" everything. Another Erin Nicholas favorite- Enjoy!

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.

I'm absolutely loving the Badges of the Bayou series! Bayou with Benefits is the second book in the series and was just as good, if not better than the first! Michael is a paramedic and a firefighter in Autre, and is also a single dad. His personality is that he constantly wants to help and fix the problems of those he is closest too, and unlike most other fixer heros, he is not annoying while he attempts this, because he does listen to what those around him want and does it that way rather than his way.

Ami is a model up in NYC, but her family is from Autre so her and Michael have known each other for basically their entire life. They know of their connection, but also know that their lives are not conductive for them to have a relationship, so they continue to be friends, and circle each other at their families big events.

After a car crash, Ami moves back home to Autre and moves in with Michael immediately to help with his son, but knowing that she plans to be back for good, means Michael and Ami immediately jump into a relationship. During that time, Ami's modeling career turns into something completely different where she advocates for those with skin conditions, and I loved all the conditions mentioned in the story, showing a wide range!

However, as with rushing into any relationship and with Ami's life changing to meet the new her, her and Michael still have a ton of things to work through before their relationship can fully work out.

I have the biggest book hangover! I just wanted this story to go on and on. This is the second story in the series and I feel like I’ve walked back into the family and friends I’ve known all my life.

We get to know more about Michael LeClaire and Amelia ‘Ami’ Landry. Theirs is a friends to lovers story, which are my jam, because they’ve known each other and have that background, but then take it a step further.

Erin’s storytelling is so fantastic, she makes us fall in love with the fire chief and his son and just how well Ami fits in with them. There were so many emotions when reading this story, my heart went pitter-patter when they declared their feelings, my heart broke after her accident and just all the ups and downs all three of them go through. I definitely shed a few tears towards the end of the book.

The epilogue gave me all the feelings and then some. Now, Erin I need to know where I can find my own Michael.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I have read nearly every single book this authors written, and I just don’t understand how each book continues to get BETTER. I thought the last book was but favorite, but THIS ONE was amazing!
Ami and Michael are such an interesting, entertaining couple. Ami is a model, lover of makeup, fashion, and… video games. Michael is a firefighter, paramedic, and all around amazing man. Together, they have some pretty big obstacles to overcome.
The story was the perfect amount of feelings— sadness, shock, humor, affection, and some serious lust. I absolutely loved it.

This author writes the best romantic comedy small town stories.
These last couple of books have been a little more serious than I’m used to from this author but just as good.

“Grown men do stupid things that aren’t about relationships sometimes,”

Michael has been in love with Ami forever and everybody knows it but her. This is a super slow burn romance. Just when there seems to be to much standing between them and there HEA everything works out.

“Of course not. But new is fresh. Different. Unknown. New is another chance.”

I really loved the complexity of the relationship in Bayou with Benefits the latest book in Erin Nicholas’ Badges of the Bayou series. We have two people who have known one another for years and years, their families are intertwined, there is so much attraction between them, but he is firmly entrenched in Autre, Louisiana with his son and family and career, and her career takes her all over including a recent contract that will have her moving to New York City. It’s not that these two don’t want to be *more* with each other, it’s that it isn’t wise at this point in time, but that doesn’t keep them from wanting it.

The way Ms. Nicholas took us on a journey to see Ami and Michael’s friendship and flirtation through the years was clever and unique. As I’m not a fan of flashbacks, I liked that these chapters were clearly marked and easy to follow that we were seeing these vignettes of their interactions throughout time. There was something so lovely about their connection and yet also a bit heartbreaking because of their circumstances.

Then one night changes it all and when Ami comes out on the other side she’s changed not just physically, but she has some strong opinions about modeling, makeup, and women not being authentic. An interesting development for someone who spent her life as a beauty queen, model, and spokeswoman for make-up companies to have and share with her followers. Ami really grew during this story and while I think at first she was raw from the accident and her emotions were not in a good place, over time and with the help of others she began to see that she could really make a difference for women who have skin conditions or trauma scars.

That night changed Michael as well, as a firefighter and paramedic he is used to helping others but when it is someone who you care about the helplessness you feel hits harder. Michael grew in this story as well, he had to let go of his need to always be the one to make things better for those he cares about and loves and that’s not always easy especially when they are finding their own way in life.

What I really loved was the relationship that Ami had with Andre, Michael’s son, outside of her relationship with his dad. They were friends, they had similar interests, and she understood him which made the fact that after her accident he withdrew from her even more heartbreaking. I felt this situation was written very well, but I was surprised that given how close Andre and Ami were that Michael didn’t do more during her recovery to help him through it, to talk about it, to give him a chance to express his feelings about it. I think that in being so worried himself he tried to downplay it for Andre which turned out not to be the best thing for him.

Bayou With Benefits was a fantastic story; the plot was rich, the emotion deeper, and the characters showed growth throughout. There were moments of fun, sexy times, and of course nosey friends and family, but this book had a bit of a more serious note that gave it more depth.

A new series with new players can always be fun. But a new series with a new generation of great characters is even better. Add in a little southern spice and all sorts of hotness and you have the ultimate fun one!

Bayou with Benefits is the second story in the Badges of the Bayou Series. What a great pair to start with. If you know anything about Erin Nicholas, then you know Autry Louisiana and the Landry family as if they were your own relatives in your own back yard. Well, that new generation starts a whole new saga for the community.

Michael LeClaire is strong, a protector, a healer, a leader, a friend and single father and he is loved by everyone around. Hard times and how he has dealt with adversity have only made him more appreciated by his peers. But under all that greatness, he is still just a man facing all the uncertainty that goes with all the responsibilities.

Amelia (Ami) Landry is beautiful, loved, smart, strong, independent and outgoing. While she is active in so much, she has yet to figure out where her path really leads. Sure, things have fallen into place, but something was always off. But sometimes fate has a way of showing a person the direction they were meant to follow.

Erin Nicholas has brought two great characters to these pages along with a re-emergence of beloved characters from prior stories. But what really gave this story so much value was Erin’s ability to bring prominent current issues to light and address them in a positive manner. There are so many readers that will find strength in this story as well as powerful educational tools.

Great Job Erin Nicholas and this story is worth all the stars!

Every time I think I've found my favorite Erin Nicholas hero, she pulls the rug out from under me by writing yet another book with a sweet and swoony, caring and possessive, nerdy but smooth-talking Cajun man. Oh, and this one is a firefighter! So. dang. hot!
Michael LeClaire has known Ami Landry since they were kids. I guess you'd call them family friends, since he grew up with her cousins in Autre, LA, where she spent the summers running wild with her sisters and the rest. Things change, though.
Michael has been watching Ami since she was 20 years old and thinking she's not for him. After all, he's a little older (Michael. It's only 5 years. You're not Rip Van Winkle) and a single dad. Plus, she doesn't live in Autre and he's never leaving.
Ami has been watching him right back. And wondering why he seems to walk away when she approaches. Oh, he's not rude. But he doesn't stick around like she'd like him to. Maybe she should just ask him. What's the worst that can happen? Besides, she's his son's favorite person. That's got to count for something, right?
These two melted my heart as much as they broke it. Distance is hard to overcome, even as absence makes their hearts grow fonder. Their slow burn was both excruciating for this reader, who wanted them together yesterday, and necessary to the building of those feelings into something unbreakable. Even as the worst happens.
I loved watching Ami grow and change throughout the story. Never changing her feelings for Michael but how she saw herself. I hurt for her as some in her life, from Charlie to Andre, looked at her differently. But she never lost her spirit. Or Michael.
Yup, this couple is definitely my never to be replaced favorite Autre couple. Just try to change my mind, Erin Nicholas!

The couple: Michael and Ami

Romance trope: friends to lovers
Series: Badges of the Bayou
Length: 306 pages

Plot: Michael and Ami have been dancing around each other, delicately, for a while. But Michael doesn't want a long-distance relationship and Ami spends most of her time in the big cities for her job as a model. But Ami is part of his circle, especially as she's close to his young son. After she suffers a terrible accident, he wants to be there for her, but it seems like they might have even more obstacles than they did before the accident.

Commentary: The cosplay stuff was cute. I kind of didn't like that Michael's son was afraid of Ami after the accident though. I understand how it helped the plot, I just didn't like the idea that he might have to choose between them when of course that wouldn't be a choice. I did like, however, that he didn't let it be a convenient excuse for breaking up. Sometimes it seemed that he took the whole "I'm a fixer" bit too far, but it seems the whole town suffers from neuroses stemming from the explosion. At the same time, that was his excuse for not pursuing Ami, and once she moved back to town for good, he was thinking things like "how could I have ever thought I didn't want her?" But that was uncool in my opinion. You're only thinking that because she's there and there's no more physical barrier. If she still lived in New York, you wouldn't have done anything (despite what he believes, in my opinion). When there's no challenge, it's easy to be the winner.

I did like the fact that Ami refused to chase after him, no matter how much she loved him. If he wasn't willing to put himself out there for her, then she wasn't going to beg - I respected that.

Next book in the series: Rocked Bayou

It’s taken me a few days to write this review. I was blown away by the beauty and depth to this story and wasn’t sure what to say to help other readers. Ami has been in love with Michael for years but the age difference and the fact she lives in a different city has given Michael a reason to avoid admitting his attraction to her. What a great tap dance these two do around each other. When Ami is in a car accident, this really is a pivotal moment for Ami and her future but also for Michael and his realization that life can change in a moment. I love Michael’s commitment and love for his family and town, he is driven to take care of everyone but that can also hinder his relationships. After the accident, Ami realizes she needs to change the career path she was on which is inspiring and wonderful. When these two finally allow themselves to embrace their feelings, the passion and chemistry is electric. I had so many fantastic surprises in this journey and made me want to visit Autre and hang out with this couple. For me, this was just wow! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I've read most of the books Erin Nicholas has written and it seems to me that they keep getting better!
Michael and Ami's story has everything I could want in a story. Hot firefighter? Check. Single dad? Check. Small town love story? Check. Strong heroine? Check. Super awesome kid? Check. Animals galore? Check! It also has laughs, tears, and so much emotion that I just wanted it to go on and on!
Michael is a fixer by nature but he can't fix everything for Ami and it makes him crazy which makes her crazy! The way the two of them (and Andre) navigate the changes in their lives is inspiring to me.
All the stars for Bayou with Benefits! I can't wait to see what's in store for the next badge in this series. Keep them coming please!

If you love a slow burn romance story then Bayou with Benefits is definitely a book you do not want to miss. The push and pull between Michael and Amelia is hot! There is definitely a smoldering fire waiting for that one spark that neither of them would be able to walk away from. Their biggest obstacle is the distance between them but they have friendship and chemistry on their side.
I love a hot alpha, protective male character and Michael LeClaire is all that and a single dad. He is protective of those he loves and a fixer for those who need help. The one thing he can’t fix is the distance physical distance between him and the one woman who his heart desperately wants.
Amelia Landry is strong, independent and is building a career and name for herself. Her biggest concession is living far away from family and friends. When one moment in her life changes everything she has a second chance to figure out what she really wants to do with her life, how she wants to live it and who she wants to spend time with and she knows that this is her opportunity to live her life with the man who owns her heart.

Mr. Fixer firefighter can’t fix everything, and when he can’t fix things for Ami, things get crazy! Michael can’t stop the feelings that creep up on him, especially when disaster strikes in Autre. I loved how Ami and Michael both try to navigate their relationship and how to make things better in their own way. Ms. Nicholas writes some of the best small town characters that you can’t help falling in love with! Ami, Michael, and Andre included!

Newsflash: Erin Nicholas outdoes herself again.

Bayou With Benefits is the second in her excellent Badges of the Bayou series. Fire chief Michael LeClaire and model and influencer Amelia Landry have known each other since before they could walk. Their families are so close, sometimes it seems like they might as well be one big family.

But they’re not. And Michael and Ami find themselves battling these inconvenient…feelings.

Badges With Benefits is an utterly delicious friends to lovers, and Michael and Ami’s story will bring laughs and possibly a few tears and many smiles and sighs of happiness.

Make sure Badges With Benefits tops your must-reads!

Michael and Ami (Amelia) have been dancing around their more than friendly feelings for months now. They've kissed but not anything further. He knows he can't start anything because a) he lives here in Autre and she lives in New York, b) she's one of his closest friend's sister, c) if (when) they broke up, everyone would be in their business, and d) they just wouldn't work. Then bam, one night an accident changes Michael's perspective, makes him realize he could have lost it all, could have lost her, and now he realizes he can have it all, wants it all. Now he has to see if she wants the same.

Ami has always been "the pretty one." One of her sisters is the bubbly one. The other is the smart one. Ami is just the one with the face that launched her modeling career. But now that career is in her past and she's back home. But it's not bad, because she loves being back home. She loves Andre, Michael's son. She loves Michael too. Will Michael still want her even though she's no longer "the pretty one"?

Oh boy but this story tugged on my heartstrings more than a bit. Michael with his hero/fixer tendencies, just wanting to fix everything for Ami. Ami a fixer too, even if in disguise, and Michael not realizing it. Andre with his poor little heart not wanting to see his best friend hurt and scarred. And all their friends and families having to deal with Ami's sudden change of career, sudden change in appearance. I may have wanted to smack Ami's mom for having given her such a complex about her looks, but I love how Ami handled it. Thank God she's strong and dealt with it all with grace and strength. And thank God she had such a sweet hero for a partner, and such a wonderful best friend in Andre. I loved this trio and how they finally got on the same page and made themselves into a family.

I never want to leave Autre.

I know at some point Erin Nicholas will move on from writing these Louisiana Bayou boys but I'm not ready for that to come just yet.

Bayou With Benefits is the second book in the Badges of the Bayou series, and can be enjoyed as a stand alone, though there are quite a few crossover characters from several of Erin's other books. You might not need to have read them to enjoy Michael and Amelia's story but some references may make a little more sense if you have.

4.5 ⭐

I didn't remember too much mention of Amelia Landry before the first book in the Badges series but I have been wanting Michael LeClaire's HEA for a LONG time. Michael is Autre's friendly, easy-going fire chief and a paramedic, a friend that's basically family to the Landry's and a single father to a 9-10 year old son, Andre. Amelia Landry aka Ami is part of the "city" Landry's, the pretty one- the model. The attraction between them might be mutual but a fling would be complicated and long distance wouldn't work- so friends it is.

I kind of liked the different approach Erin used with this story. Ami and Michaels story was told in parts over various time frames and events. I really loved the sweet easy friendship that Ami had with Michael's son- her connection and love for Andre was separate from her feelings toward Michael and it was just so heartwarming to have a peek into their special connection. Her relationship with Michael on the other hand was a little more like a yo-yo at first. They both could admit to their attraction but decided it was best to not cross that line. Michael is a fixer and needs to be needed. Which made him total swoon material when he finally took the leap for Ami after her accident. The tender way he made her still feel like the most beautiful woman in the world made my heart melt. I was a little surprised with how quickly and easily Michael made the switch in his views of a relationship with Ami. In a way it wasn't as quick as it felt because of the time jumps in the story but because of those time jumps it felt a little more like whiplash.

Bayou With Benefits is pretty low angst but this one did hit me in the emotions a little more than I expected. Ami rediscovering who she was and how to move forward with her new life was powerful and beautiful. There is still plenty of humor and splashes of the tension and heat between these two to balance out the more vulnerable moments- making this story one that just kind of sucks you in and leaves you with that content and happy feeling.

And that's really just how I felt once I hit the end of Michael and Ami's journey- happy. They were just so cute and I wish I was able to spend more time reading them!

“I’m a fixer. I need to fix things for the people I care about.”

Friends without benefits . . . even though both want more, both Ami and Michael know that a long distance relationship won’t work, especially with Michael being a single dad. So, they dance around one another. Again and again. And, they kiss. But, they still don’t take it further. But, when a life threatening car accident happens, everything changes . . . and they are both left wondering if resisting was the best move after all?

I’m thrilled to be back in the bayou with Michael and Ami! This couple had so many sparks flying it’s a good thing that Michael was a firefighter and paramedic! And, while I understood why they stayed apart, I couldn’t wait for them to finally combust into flames!

I adored Ami! Her character was super unique and I loved the journey of self discovery she found herself on unexpectedly. Her relationship with Michael’s son, Andre was too sweet as well and added so much to this story. And, Michael, the man who just wants to fix everyone around him so they are all happy, safe and healthy. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way, and sometimes, a person doesn’t need to be fixed. He has his own journey in this book and I adored that too.

Another brilliant romance from the small town of Autre, where family and friends truly are everything, people feeling lost find themselves, couples find their happy ever afters, and the bayou is home for everyone who makes a stop in this quirky town! 5 stars!

Michael LeClaire has so far mostly been a character in the background of the Bayou Books, so I was more than thrilled when Erin gave him his own book and gave her readers our chance to get to know him better. Michael LeClaire is the perfect book boyfriend, hot, sexy and someone who you can rely on. Even with so much on his plate being a single dad to an amazing son, and the fire chief he is always willing to give a hand to anyone who needs it.

Who would have thought that this pillar of the community was hiding a secret love for model and beauty Ami Landry that had been going on since they were kids. As Ami lives far away in New York City it didn't seem that they would ever have a chance of forever so Michael has always hidden his feelings and was just there for Ami as her best friend. That's until a tragic accident changes Ami's life and brings Michael's feelings to the surface and both of them will never be the same again.

Ami is a lovable gal all through the book, but sadly she has been pushed into the beauty business all her life by her mother who never seemed to recognise that he had any other talents other than her beauty so when she loses her job due to the accident she retreats to Autre to find herself again and Michael is there by her side as always.

Whew can you say smoking hot chemistry? yes it is there between these two but there is so much more to their relationship, the love and support for each other is wonderful to see. Erin has given us such a beautiful love story here to savour with all the humour and crazy characters we have come to expect when visiting Autry. I so love these stories for the warm and gooey feelings that I get when reading them. Erin's characters can be faced with some tough obstacles to get over but we are always invited to cheer them on their journey. Even though this story is entertaining and heartwarming there are subjects brought up which will leave you with something to think about.

Friends to lovers. Michael is the fire chief in Autre and Amelia "Ami" is a beauty consultant who does videos about makeup. They've known each other forever and have had secret crushes on each other about that long, too. Michael is about five years older than Ami and is a single dad. They are finally acknowledging that they have feelings but can't do anything about it since neither one wants a long distance relationship. Ami has just signed a contract with a beauty company in New York and Michael's life is in Autre. Michael is about to tell Ami that he's in love with her when she has a car accident that nearly kills her. He's a "fixer" and wants to help Ami through all of her recovery. Michael's son, Andre is a good friend of Ami's because of their love of the cos-play. All three have some real problems to overcome with Ami's injuries and recovery from her accident. Will Michael see that even though he loves to make sure everything and everyone is "fixed" that it doesn't always happen and he's not at fault? Will Ami be able to accept his help and also help her online followers while she figures out her future? I really liked how things weren't "fixed" right away and everyone had life lessons to learn especially that beauty isn't just skin deep. This new series is connected to previous books set in Autre but is able to be read as a standalone book. I was given an early copy to read and review. I'm leaving my honest review.
