All it took was one bad decision,
A need to numb the pain that threatened to tear me apart.
He was someone I trusted,
And he made a decision that would forever ruin me.
They used to be my best friends,
But after that night, I never wanted to see them again.
Now they hate me and will stop at nothing to watch me suffer.
But what do they know about suffering?
After what I’ve been through,
Everything they throw at me is child’s play.
One more year and I’ll be free of them,
Never having to be reminded of that fateful night.
A lot can happen in a year...

First, let me say, I am in total awe of how this author came up with this duet. She cracked open my heart, and it bleeds for Kailey. It's raw and emotional. Desecrated Flesh is my first book from C.A. Rene, and I am obsessed with her writing. This book is dark with triggers. If your sensitive, this book is not for you.

Kaley is one strong girl; the book starts with a horrific act, summer before her Freshmen year in high school. She severs her relationship with her best friend, Brody, along with Caine, Conner, and Zeke. From that moment on, they have turned into her bullies and have no clue what happened to her. Her senior year and Kailey just can’t wait to graduate and finally be rid of High school.

On her first day, things seem off; she is warned by Brody to be careful. Kailey is confused and no clue what that means. Now, what is High school without mean girls? There are four of them, and Georgina is the head bitch. They attempt daily to bully her, and Kaley doesn’t even blink an eyelid and just throws it right back to them. She comes up with some Doozies.

All is not what it seems, and man, there are some painful secrets. Some are revealed. But not all, and I was shocked at some of them. I have my theory on a few of them. I just love all the boys, even Brody. Each one of them brings something to Kailey. Cain's is my favorite. He is crass and comes off like he doesn't care; however, he is the smartest one of the four and cares more the what he leads on. Deep down, he is one big softy to those he loves. The ending is epic, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Be aware that triggers abound in this book.
This is a dark, RH bully romance. There is very little light, but it is bathed in darkness. You will find a broken, but brave young woman named Kailey and also the Golden Four best known as Brody, Copper, Zeke and Caine. Those four guys also have 4 girls that are in their group and in their pants. Those girls try to make Kailey's life miserable.
Oh, let's not forget about Oliver either!

This story will reel you in and hold you captivate from the first page until the very last. It consumed me and I couldn't put it down!

Kailey suffered brutal trauma at the age of 14 and afterwards pulled away from the Golden Four who were her best friends up until that point. Boys being boys - they turn on her and take offense to her ghosting them, instead of trying to find out what was going on in her world, her heart and her mind.
Prior to this trauma she went through something devastating and it just compounding everything and she was truly and utterly broken. She had no one to turn to for comfort. No one in her corner. She had essentially lost everything. Including herself.

Start of senior year she decides she wants to fight back and take back parts of herself that were taken from her. She is not going to cower away anymore. Those golden boys take notice of that and of HER.

This is their story. It's not easy. It's full of heartbreak and secrets. Truths tucked deep in hearts, but like always it festers and festers until they are made known and bared for all.
This book will gut you. Your heart will be beating out of your chest. Your emotions will be going berserk. You will hurt for the young girl Kailey once was. You will hurt for the strong yet broken woman she is now. You will FEEL!

She deserves a happy ending. Please let that happen in book 2!

That ending... Ugh! I need the next book in my life.

I grabbed this book because I love damaged characters and these guys have some serious issues. I became engrossed from the opening pages…

Lying there, drugged, getting raped, she remembered her mama’s words: boys can never be trusted. Her life is changed forever, but changed in ways she never could have anticipated.

I am finding it hard to write the review. I want to warn you about the filth these characters live in, yet who am I to judge? All I can do is share my thoughts about them, about what they do to each other, about the bullying and abuse they heap on one person in particular.

Kimmy is Kailey’s best friend and I would love to have one just like her. She sticks by her side, through thick and thin, but Kailey is not one to take things lying down, any more. She fights back in her own way. She has a mouth and uses it. I love that she doesn’t cower. She stands up for herself, but something has changed. They are watching her, closely.

The title is so appropriate. I’m not sure how I would have made it through the things Hailey does. Would I have taken my life? Beat the hell out of some people? Killed someone?

The beautiful cover and cute chapter headings that signify a change to show which character’s point of view is being shared, put a pretty light on an ugly story.

“We may be a ragtag group of varying degrees of fucked up, but I know we’d do anything for Hailey Hamari.” If you read the book, you will see how twisted this statement is.

As I read the story, I thought…what the hell? Would do anything for her? Then why aren’t they standing up for her? That story will be told…

I love damaged characters, but WOW..these are off the charts. I am confused, at a loss for words, so on to the next book in the Desecrated Duet, Desecrated Essence to find out what the hell is really going on. Why do they feel Hailey deserves what is happening to her, day after day after day.

I voluntarily reviewed Desecrated Flesh by C A Rene.

First thing first, this book will crush your soul. C.A. Rene deserves all the stars for this book. It's filled with darkness, but there are also scenes that will make your heart smile, so filled with hope.

Desecrated Flesh is a contemporary dark romance RH set in a high school backdrop, but definitely isn't YA. The characters are 18+ and come with a trigger warning.

The FMC has PTSD after a brutal rape just after the death of her mother the summer before HS. She pulls away from her four best friends. This book has bullying, friends to enemies to lovers, cursing drinking, drug use, an age gap (slight)/student/teacher relationship, murder, and some mafia family connections and organized crime that are slowly revealed, among other things.

I love the characters in this book. The FMC, even when she is bullied and harrassed, always has the perfect reply. She's done hiding. I am looking forward to seeing her take her power back... because she's too strong not to.

The storyline seems like there's a lot we are on the verge of finding out, which I love. This is a story happening after a couple life altering events four years ago, but it's so much more than that. Kailey has flashbacks and is reclaiming her sense of self and her confidence.

There are five total guys. Four are part of the Golden Four. One is faculty at the FMC's school. Two of the Golden Four guys are to die for... they literally would do anything for Kailey. The other two have a ways to go to win her over.

There's clearly so much history between most of the characters. I absolutely can not wait to find out what happens next. I'm totally hooked.

Definitely recommend for fans of RH dark romance books. This one is a keeper.

I tried I really did. I even tried skimming last this point but I just couldn’t do it. I feel so nasty right now like parts of me are broken and I want to cry and rage till I pass out. This book just escalated my emotions and right now I could almost go batshit cuckoo. The heroines been dealing since freshman year with a brutal assault and the loss of her best friends. The same best friends that became the cruelest kind of bullies to her making the last three years akin to hell. Not only has she not had time to deal with her mother’s death when she’s assaulted but she has her heart and soul crushed in the same night. Suddenly her one of her ex friends cozies up to her and blackmails her into dating him. She falls into his trap and goodness I must have really got sucked in because I feel so gutted watching it happen. There’s an elaborate ploy to use her made even worse as they slowly piece together something happened to her. Honestly the truth has bitch slapped them all multiple times now but like the complete idiots they are they can’t piece it together. Truly though I have so many doubts in them knowing they’d not even believe her should she come clean. These characters literally make my skin crawl and the kicker was when one of them forces himself on her and she falls for it. She thinks to herself if it was anyone else not listening to me say no and sensing my panic she’d be going berserk but because it’s this sadist it’s ok. I can't handle a heroine who is in the midst of a horrible flashback but then comes to, brushes it off and gets turned on. I am so fine with erotica and bdsm but I was grossed out to my core when this scene played out and then the heroine thinks “I should never feel good about being forced to please a man but I do.” I was done, she lost me. There usually has to be something redeemable about the men and they just grossed me out. Their flippant behavior about her assault really was the kicker. In the same thought Cooper thinks about her being skittish after her ‘trauma’ but that she better get over it quick since Caine liked it rough. I’m sorry, WHAT?!?! Lord keep all sharp objects away from me right now 😡I'm all for a damsel in distress in my story-lines but they usually have some type of brain in their head. This combined with her frequent run ins with her attacker and her future harems absolutely atrocious and nauseating behavior made no sense and the character I was so strongly rooting for withered away before my eyes and died 😐😶 In fact their flippant behavior about rape in particular is disgusting, they actually joke about it. Then again it is one of her harems own brothers’ who was responsible and it’s nothing daddies money can’t fix. Like I’m a glutton for punishment over this shit because I’m running to the end to get the gist……. Survey says: Seems two find out at her truth at some point (throw in a new member aka the new guidance counselor), they then want to kill the responsible duo but still joke about good food and parties while the heroine is in the other room recovering from something new. Make her go to a party where they finally do take them out but then Brody, the most disappointing has his moment to maybe redeem and didn’t take it. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Yeah no!

This book started off with a bang. No pun intended. If you are triggered by mentions or acts of rape do not read. This is not for you.
.
CA Rene has done it again! I became obsessed with her from her first book Through The Pain and this is no exception! It was everything and more. Dark, twisted and heavy. There is so much going on with this. The secrets, mystery and power plays, who will come out on top?
.
I absolutely live Kailey. After what she’s been through, her strength and resilience is inspiring. A heavy hitting issue in this book so please read the trigger warning! I love the fight she has. Through this book we follow Kailey as she reclaims her life, her body and her freedom. She is such a complex character. Her strength is glaring yet there are peaks of vulnerability throughout that make her seem more real. Her growth throughout is tangible and you see exact moments that mark her journey.
.
I didn’t know this was rh but I’m so glad it was. Kailey and The Four have a past. They were once all close until that fateful night. I’ve enjoyed how Kailey has found her way back to them, 2 of the 4 have healed her in different ways and I’m interested to see how that changed and adapts with the other 2 joining the circle in the next book. Assuming the other 2 will indeed join. Each are unique but all have their own demons.
.
I like that most about the story. They’re demons seem to feed and coexist with each other, creating this sort of balance between them yet, they also set apart from each other. Each character have depth and layers. Each are complex. It’s truly a head spin following along yet you are completely sucked in and consumed from the prologue and you end up a glutton for punishment and keep coming back from more.

This book had everything and packed such a punch that I was left with a serious book hangover that I haven't had in a while.

Kailey experiences a trauma that puts her at odds with her four former male best-friends from childhood. In that time, she has been bullied, only maintaining one friend and a fleeting relationship with her father, her only parent. But senior year changes everything. Enemies become lovers? A tale full of mystery, drama, and suspense unfolds.

One of my favorite books this year, yet I am confounded as to how to express how much I enjoyed it so much so that it was an immediate re-read.

What I loved about this story:
- great pace
- twists and thrills
- intriguing, captivating storyline, unexpected plot
- complex, remarkable characters, even those less likable ones
- confident yet vulnerable heroine, believable character given her life experiences
- total alpha males you want on your side but might be afraid to bring home
- steam! and once it occurred, was hot and heavy (thank you)
- an element of taboo and juicy dark themes

This story hit highest marks for me, a love story as riveting as it was entertaining. I can't wait for book two.

Desecrated Flesh
Author: C.A Rene

Stars: 5/5
Heat: 5/5

C.A Rene quickly worked her way to the top of my favorite author list with her Whitsborough Chronicles, so I was anticipating another great read from her. I had NO IDEA how this book would affect me. It is a very dark reverse harem bully romance. It does have lighter moments but if you have any triggers at all please proceed with caution.

It was heart wrenching and gut churning. It had my head spinning and and my heart breaking. It had me cheering and yelling at my kindle. It had me swooning and falling in love. So many different elements and emotions all wrapped up in a package of secrets and revelations. I finished it in one sitting because it is impossible to put down.

There really is nothing else that I can say without spoilers. Just know that if you enjoy dark, reverse harem romance then I fully recommend this book.

I LOVED this book! And yes the loved is shouted! Finished it in one day and could not stop. In the beginning it was a bit slow and I was worried this would be another dud read but man! This has it all, non con, intrigue, RH, bully trope etc etc! It ends on the best cliff hanger and gad I hope she gets what is coming and damn, it is 1am but I am one clicking the next like a fiend and will devour it like a fat kid with a cupcake!

The plot is very simple and predictable. The boys are high schoolers but meant to be dangerous… when they try to be intimidating or cocky, I just can’t. Why did the heroine find one of the dudes hot when he grabbed his crotch for a joke/veiled threat at her expense? It made me cringe in a bad way.

The big misunderstanding. It felt disjointed and lacked internal logic that all of these boys who, if not carried a childhood torch for her, liked and enjoyed spending time with her, would then decide to be her worst enemy after she didn’t answer like a week’s worth of calls.

Taking out her horrific experience that was her major reason for keeping her distance from the boys… HER MOM PASSED AWAY. Even if she did do the things that people judged her for at that night, HER MOM LITERALLY PASSED AWAY THAT SAME DAY.

If I was her supposed friend, I would be patient during her grieving process. But what do I know. The boys haven’t developed frontal lobes so the logical jump probably made more sense for them… however there needed something a bit more for the reader to, not necessarily sympathize with their bully cause, but to at least understand how they got there.

As it is, I can’t believe that these boys that are the heirs of the leaders who run the underground drug/sex trafficking in their town are the same ones that assume their friend, the heroine, is a slut whose life in school must be made a living hell for these past few years.

Also be warned that every new male character is immediately attracted to the heroine. Honestly Ballons (can’t remember his name)?? Like there are not enough stables for the horses, ma’am 🤣

So, I bought the duet, and ended up having to return the 2nd book. I only finished the first one because it wasn't on KU and ended up paying for the book.

KH was best friends with Brody, Cooper, Caine, and Zeke or the Golden Four until the summer before high school started. After her mother was killed, KH goes to find Brody to talk and walks in on him hooking up with another girl and she runs out embarrassed and upset. She ends up being assaulted by Brody's older brother and it's just too much for KH, so she cuts ties with the Golden Four and tries to move on the best way she knows how to; however, the guys don't take it well and choose to make her life hell once they start high school. Senior year starts and KH has decided she's not hiding anymore and ends up getting their attention.

I liked the h for the first half of the book. Then she just got annoying. I really didn't like the inconsistencies with her 'triggers' and her behavior. I just really wanted her to be strong and stand up for herself, but she never really did. She just went along with what they told her with a smidge of rebelliousness.

I really didn't like the guys. Cooper was okay, but the rest of them... nope. Brody was supposed to be her best friend, they'd known each other all their life. As far as he knew, her mother passed away and she was coping and his response it to have an entire school bully her. I feel like maybe the author could have come up with something a little more believable for his response to KH ghosting him. What made it worse is there is not reconciliation between KH and Brody during the book... he actively hates her throughout and it only gets worse as it goes.

Idunno. This just wasn't a good one for me. There are definitely a lot of triggers with this one and usually, they don't bother me so much, but this one just made me vacillate between cringing and wanting to throw my iPad.
I would recommend this to anyone who is okay with dub-con and non-con. Also anyone who is okay with idiot MMCs, and an inconsistent MC.

I devoured this book! Holy shit. Everything about this book is set up to draw you in and keep you captive. And, trust me, these men make you want to be taken captive.

There isn’t much of this book I can give away because ever single part of it grows and builds. However, if you want to have your soul ripped out and ruined this book is a must. Definitely one of the sexiest, craziest, darkest books I have read all year and I am LIVING for it.

*** serious trigger warning. Rape and sexual assault are a main theme in this book.

Caine.. yes please.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

This was a book I never knew I needed. I had no idea what I wanted to read when I saw this book and thought “why not?”. I now have no idea why I didn’t read it sooner. I had to read it until I was finished, no matter the fact it ended up being 4am in the morning 🙈 I just had to see it through.

The prologue made me cry, as did all the flashbacks. What Kailey went through (and went through ON HER OWN) and proceeded to be put through was just horrific. Not only did that happen, but she ended up losing everyone that mattered the most to her at the time, and 4 of those people then proceeded to make her life hell. I was so happy when she decided to start claiming her life back and I really feel that the author did that process justice. Kailey didn’t just suddenly forget everything that happened to her, she suffers flashbacks and triggers throughout the book. Really good writing and story telling.

Ah the guys, I wanted to love Cooper but I have to say.. Caine. Man, Caine. Yes please 🙋🏻‍♀️ I loved when it started switching to multiple POV’s (I’m a sucker for that). Oliver.. I’m neither here nor there about him at this point, but I can’t wait till we start getting more Zeke and Brody.

I’m really looking forward to diving into book 2 and seeing where this duet ends up.

So I did a total reread of this book and I will tell you what... I am deleting my last review because I like it so much more reading it a second time.
I am a huge believer that your headspace at the time affects your feelings towards certain books.
And I will be the first to admit that I do not believe I appreciated this story enough the first time I read it.
Desecrated Flesh is definitely a story that may be a little hard for some to read.
It is fast moving book that will leave you with one of those endings that has your jaw dropping and screaming “what the fuck just happened”. IT WAS LIKE WOW. That just happened and where on earth did that come from. It leaves you itching for the next book to see what is going to happen next. There are parts that are absolutely heart wrenching and parts that are so effing hot!
This is such a well written book that will leave you feeling so many different emotions. A must read!!

Dang!!! That ending! I did not see that coming!!!

“Maybe these boys are slowly replacing all the bad things that have happened to me with good new memories. Ones filled with pleasure and not pain.”

Trigger Warning. This book really revolves around the brutal rape of a young girl. And how that one night changed her life. She recently lost her mom, was raped brutally at a party, and lost her best friends.
Those friends turned on her for years. Not understanding why she retreated into herself.

This book is about those friends forcing themselves back into her life. Why? You’ll have to read.

Make no mistake. This is a dark ass book. But this story has some damn steamy moments too.
Definitely RH. One being her guidance counselor. Tabooness!
Tons of action. I couldn’t stop reading.
It’s pretty instalove but just ride with it because it’s a fantastic read!

Intense!

⭐ 4.5 ⭐

Phew, that was one intense book! Thank you to a certain fellow bookstagrammer for recommending it!

Gotta get my warnings in...if you have triggers or don't like dark themes, please don't read.

⚠️ Rape of a minor, dub-con, murder, PTSD, flashbacks, bullying

Desecrated Flesh is my first book by C.A. Rene. And I will be back for every other book she writes. It does need another go through by a proofreader (which sometimes quite throws me off a book)...but this was that good, I wasn't too bothered by it. It was dark, and intense and brutal in some parts. I loved it. Does it contain some things that are, again, outside the realms of possibility with teens? Yes - but it IS fiction 😆

Highly recommended!

This book was good! It got me out of my book funk. Hate predictable storylines and this had me intrigued. Nothing was taboo in this book. There are some slight inconsistencies and I found myself confused when I didn’t realize we were in a flashback. Some of the story one portion she has taken off her pants then I read him taking them off, so I was confused but decided it to dwell on it. Honestly any other book I probably would’ve said 3-3 1/2 bc I hate story inconsistencies. Another part was someone entered her, but then later she said it was just his fingers and nothing actually happened. So a bit confusing. But I enjoyed the no holds barred story so much. This book pushed boundaries a lot, which I like.

Such a heartbreaking story but worth it

Trigger warning:  certain scenes and flashbacks may not be suitable for people suffering with ptsd due to  sexual assault.

Dealing with a traumatic event that haunts her. Kailey decides senior year will be different.
Reuniting with her friends from the past they start to slowly heal her and make her stronger. Hooked from the prologue, I couldn't put it down.
If your looking for hot men, blackmail, mystery, drama, suspense and hot hot steam this is the book for you. Cant wait for book 2.

An emotional journey

The emotion and pain that bleeds from these pages was amazing to read. This painful story about a girl who has had a traumatic experience and her journey to take back her life and fill it with love and kindness and all of the things she deserves. This story was so well written and I absolutely need to know what is going to happen next and how everthing will work in the end.

Umm where do I start with this one! CA your done it again, can I please have my heart back 😂

This book has trigger warnings that shouldn’t be ignored! But it’s definitely worth the read.

Kailey has definitely had a shit hand to life with everything that’s gone wrong in her short nearly 18 years of life! I love how she decided that her senior year will be here year, and slowly get her life back one piece at a time. But will the truth set her free?

The Golden 4 Brody, Cooper, Cain and Zeke bloody hell these boys are dark and delicious, mix in a little bit of crazy and twisted! I seriously can’t choose who I like more..

I have to take my hat off to CA for her first RH, she smashed it out of the ball park and I’m dying to find out what happens next in book 2 of the duet!

Absolutely fantastic

Probably my favorite read by this author so far. Please heed trigger warnings as there are multiple instances of vivid flashbacks and an actual assault within these pages. That said, I think the author did a remarkable job with the character’s trauma and it’s effects on her thought processes, actions and relationships - it wasn’t just done for shock value nor was it glossed over. It felt real. We meet our FMC Kailey-Himari in the midst of her assault - and it set the tone for the heartache, empathy, and just plain pain I felt for her character throughout the book. I enjoyed the potential love interests aka KH’s previous friends and tormentors - well I say that - I experienced some intense dislike for them initially, but as the story progressed plus we got a few POV chapters, I found myself warming up to a few of them. A couple still have much work to do to get in KH’s (or my lol) good graces. The storyline saw character growth and development, angst, the aforementioned heartache, intrigue and plenty of twists and turns. I didn’t want to put the book down finished it in one sitting, neglecting plenty until I got to the end! I’ll absolutely be continuing the series, I’m already anxious for the next installment.

These are the first books written by C. A Rene that I have read, but not the last for sure. Also it's the second time that I read RH stories and I still ask myself why I don't read more of this trope.

In the first book we get to know the characters Kailey and The Golden Four: Brody, Cooper, Caine and Zeke, we get to learn what happened between them, how was their old relationship and how it evolves currently. It was a great start of the story between Kailey and the guys. And the twist in the end, yes you need to have the second book in your reach.
This duet was a roller-coaster, action packed and hot, the sex scenes are something else entirely.

P. S. There are triggers, so this is my warning. Read them before you start this book.

Packs a punch -

Read the warnings. This book is graphic. This book sucks you in and spits you out. I love the voice of the characters, the storyline is intense and it’s written well. I would certainly read the next one and more from this author...be good to see the author align herself with an editor, her writing is too good to get lost in inaccuracies.
