Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy

Rate this book
This city girl could use a dose of good old-fashioned cowboy Christmas cheer in this charming holiday romance!

Pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler is finally going to realize her dream. She’s got a job lined up at the most prestigious children’s hospital in London. Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele couldn’t save his brother-in-law on the battlefield, but he can save his sister’s ranch and give his nieces the life they deserve in the town they love. He’s not about to let some outsider make a mint selling to a ruthless developer. Operation Save Star Valley is foolproof: show Kyra the sights, let the Christmas spirit work its magic, and bam! She’ll decide not to sell and he can ensure his family is taken care of. Except as he tries to make Kyra fall in love with the town, Aiden starts falling for her.

This is a Cowboy Christmas Small-Town Romance, and this is the first book in the Star Valley series. I really enjoyed getting to know this small town. I loved getting to know the characters in this book. I also loved getting to understand the two main characters back stories, and I think they both fit together so well. The ending was cute, sweet, and everything I wanted. The Christmas parts were cute. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Forever) or author (Sara Richardson) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

This was soooo good! I fell in love with all the characters in the small Wyoming town of Star Valley and wanted to be right there with them!! Talk about a small town with a great big heart.

Aiden and Kyra are two people who are emotionally broken, he's an ex Navy Seal with survivor's guilt and she's a nurse who believes her father abandoned her all these years ago. Now she's inherited Star Valley and moves there temporarily so she can clear out the house and sell the town. The best laid plans don't always work out!! Before long, the warmth of the town's people and the sexy Aiden, make her second guess her decisions of where she wants her life to go.

This is written from the heart and it shows throughout the story. Add in all the Christmas preparations and the romance and you've got a book you won't want to put down!!

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy was an enjoyable read featuring a romance between a woman trying to sell the town she just inherited and the man who hopes to convince her not to.

Pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler's dream of moving to London is finally becoming a reality. But first, she has to deal with the town she just inherited from her estranged father. After completing the required repairs, she should easily be able to find a buyer before New Year's. Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele is determined to save his sister's ranch after he wasn't able to save his brother-in-law on the battlefield. Operation Save Star Valley is simple: make Kyra fall in love with the town so she'll decide not to sell. Except while he's trying to get Kyra to fall in love with the town, Aiden begins falling for her instead.

Kyra last saw her father when she was ten years old after her parents divorced and her father moved away. For years, Kyra resented her father for abandoning her and she has a lot of mixed feelings about the inheritance she received from him. Her plan is basically to go to Star Valley and do whatever necessary to get rid of the town as fast as possible. Aiden came home after leaving the Navy SEALs to help care for his sister and her two kids to make up for not being able to save his brother-in-law in combat. Aiden has pretty bad PTSD as a result of what happened and he struggles a lot with believing he can be happy after failing to save his best friend.

The premise of this one intrigued me and I was interested to see what Kyra would do with the town she inherited. She meets Aiden before even making it to town and the attraction between them is pretty immediate. I liked the quick connection they formed and the friendship that came as a result. Eventually their relationship develops despite the fact Kyra is supposed to be leaving on Christmas and I really enjoyed it. The steamy scenes were well done although I do wish there had been a few more of them. My only real complaint about their romance, and the book in general, is that I didn't like how long Aiden lied to Kyra in his attempt to persuade her not to sell. He continuously deceives her both directly and indirectly which frustrated me. When she finds out, she's rightfully upset and I was glad she made him work to make things up to her.

Overall Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy was a cute holiday romance and I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy features Kyra, a pediatric nurse, who has just inherited the town Star Valley, but wants to sell it to move to London. There, she meets Adien, a former Navy SEAL who is going through PTSD and still trying to come to terms with the grief and guilt he feels from losing his brother-in-law.

While this was my first book by this author, and might even be my first Western Romance, I enjoyed it so much! I enjoyed both Kyra and Adien’s characters, and they both grew in different ways. Kyra became more open minded about her past with her dad, and Adien learned to love and grow moving forward in life instead of being stuck in his past.

Tess, Thatch, and Silas were all amazing side characters. I loved Tess’s character so much and cannot wait to read her book. She is Adien’s sister and had to learn how to become a single mom of two girls after losing her husband. As a mom myself, I cannot even imagine what she might have gone through, but I found her to be my favorite character.

This was a very well written novel, and I am looking forward to not only continuing this series, but reading more books by this author. This was written in third person, and while it does take place in November and December, the book can be read year-round if you are looking for a cowboy contemporary romance.

The book kind of gave me Schitt’s Creek and Gilmore Girls vibes. I mean Kyra owned the town and the name of the town is similar to Stars Hollow…

Read this if you like:
- Cowboys
- Western Contemporary Romance
- Third Person POV
- Small Town
- Former SEAL
- Characters with PTSD
- Found Family
- Christmas/Holiday Romance

3.75stars--WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY is the first instalment in Sara Richardson’s contemporary, adult STAR VALLEY romance series. This is former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, and pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY follows in the aftermath of the death of Kyra Fowler’s estranged father. Kenneth Fowler had walked away from his wife and daughter years before leaving a heart broken Kyra to struggle in the after math. Fast forward to present day wherein, Kenneth Fowler has passed away, leaving the small town of Star Valley Springs in the hands of our story line heroine. Kyra has no plans to keep or live in Star Valley but the people have a plan of their own. Enter business owner/rancher/ former US Navy SEAL Aiden Steele, the man with whom Kyra will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kyra and Aiden, and the fall-out as the people of Star Valley set a plan into motion to persuade Kyra Fowler to become one of their own.

Kyra Fowler has struggled in the years since her father walked away but Kyra never knew the truth about what happened and why. With her arrival in Star Valley secrets will reveal a different story than the one she was told, a story that leaves our heroine wondering where everything went wrong. Meeting Aiden Steele made Kyra reconsider her hopes for the future, a future that would have pulled Kyra around the world.

The relationship between Kyra and Aiden is one of immediate attraction but Kyra has no plans to stay in Star Valley, and Aiden is hoping to prevent the sale of the small town he has grown to love. A slow seduction of our story line heroine ends badly when Kyra discovers everything has been a ruse to convince her to stay. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

We are introduced to several townsfolk as well as family and friends of our story line couple: Aiden’s sister Tess, and her daughters Willow and Morgan; his best friends and former teammates Silas and Thatch, as well as Kyra’s best friend Lyric.

WISHING ON A CHRISTMAS COWBOY reads like a Hallmark™ Christmas movie with all the sugar and sweetness of romance and love. The premise is entertaining, enjoyable and heartwarming; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, determined and real.

Kyra Fowler has inherited her father's home in Montana. He left when she was ten and never contacted her after leaving. She has to fix it up by Christmas and wishes to sell it so she can move to London. Ex-seal Aiden Steele meets her on the first day she comes to town. The town doesn't want her to sell to a developer and hope to win her over on the people and town.
Aiden is the only contractor that can do the renovations that she needs to have done. Aiden is struggling with PTSD and only spends time taking care of his widowed sister and two nieces. Aiden feels like it's his fault his brother-in-law died in service.
The only problem is Aiden and Kyra seem to be really falling for each other and someone is going to get hurt. Someway Kyra is going to find out that the town is plotting to keep her from selling to a developer.
This was a great read and I really enjoyed Kyra finding her place in Montana.

This is a solid romance with a touch of Christmas. Kyra Fowler, a pediatric nurse practitioner, inherits a small Wyoming mountain town of Star Valley from her estranged father. The last time she had contact with her dad he left his wife and Kyra behind and married the mother of Kyra’s best friend. She’s given herself a few months to deal with the inheritance with plans to sell to the assets and begin a new job in London. Aiden Steele loves the small town that has been the refuge for he and his ex-Navy Seal friends. It is also home to his sister and nieces. He suggests a plan to make Kyra fall in love with Star Valley so the town wont change and be developed.

The characters are nice and there is a good sense of community. I thought the plan was manipulative but Aiden realizes it on his own and has some guilt about it. There is mid level steaminess which fits nicely. I thought a few things were predictable and I was confused as to how big the community is because the only children ever mentioned are his nieces. I have read another series by the author and enjoyed this enough to look for the next adventure.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

There is a lot more going on in this story than one might glimpse from the synopsis. The protagonists are both trying to move on from things that happened in their past. The characters are well-developed and likeable as are the other members of the Star Valley community.

Kyra’s father has recently passed, leaving Kyra Star Valley the town he settled in once he divorced Kyra’s mother. When Kyra was a young teen, her father left her mother for her best friend’s mother and moved to Star Valley. In one blow, she’d lost both her father and her best friend.

Aiden’s story is one of PTSD and survivor’s guilt following the death of his brother-in-law who was part of his Navy Seal squad in Afghanistan. He and two of his squad-mates are determined to make the lives of Aiden’s sister and her two daughters as best as they can to make up for their loss.

Kyra’s father had a list of things he wanted her to complete before she decides to sell the town. As the only contractor in town, Aiden’s company accepts the job. The threat of Kyra selling to a big developer and ruining the charm of the small town has Aiden’s company moving very slowly in completing the work in hopes of having Kyra fall in love with the community and decide to stay.

I enjoyed the romance that begins between Kyra and Aiden and the way they support one another while coping with their losses. Aiden’s two nieces are absolutely charming and I enjoyed reading about them. There is a suggestion of a romance that may occur in the future and I’m really hoping that this couple will be featured in the next book in the series.

I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy romance stories set in small towns.

I received an early copy of this book but the thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

I haven't read a good cowboy book in ages and this was JUST what I needed. It was the right feel of Hallmark-y and a little heat that kept me cruising through the book. I was unsure if I would settle in with Kyra's struggles with her family and the little bit of a chip on her shoulder, but watching her settle into her dad's house and his small town was so sweet. I loved her relationship with Aiden and how they grew through his personal issues as well. If you like cowboys and hallmark christmas, you are going to want to grab this book!

Kyra Fowler is on the cusp of achieving her dream of working as a nurse practitioner in London. The only catch is that she must first travel to Wyoming to tie up her estranged father’s estate and sell the town he inexplicably left her in his will. She just has to do a few repairs that are certain to easily attract an investor and she plans to be in London by the New Year.

Aiden Steele was unable to save his brother-in-law and Navy SEAL teammate in battle, but he’s determined to save his sister’s ranch and make sure she and his two young nieces can have the life they deserve in the small town they love. He’s not about to let them be driven out by an uncaring investor. His plan is to show Kyra around and, with the help of the townsfolk and a little Christmas spirit, make her fall in love with the place so she won’t want to sell. The plan backfires a bit, however, when Aiden is the one who begins to fall for her.

I have to say, this wasn’t quite as light-hearted and Christmassy as I was expecting or wanting, but the ending surprised me with how much it charmed me. In facing a holiday without several loved ones who should be here, the grief is hitting hard, so it was both painful and somehow a bit comforting to find that grieving was such a big theme in this unassuming book with its cutesy title. Some scenes were difficult to read and had me in tears, but the close bonds formed by this small-town community and the found family aspects gave me warm fuzzies.

Suffice it to say, this book was a bit of a mixed bag for me, and it was sometimes difficult to remember that it was meant to be a romance. Kyra and Aiden didn’t actually spend that much time together and in fact, she spends a great deal of time avoiding him. She was a pretty difficult character for me to like, mostly because she spent so much time harping on about the necessity of sticking to this life plan of moving to London even though it was something she came up with pretty arbitrarily. She was extremely inflexible for a long time and somehow seemed to think that this meant she was making her own decisions when really, she was just latching onto something random. All this did make some sense given her background and the fact that her mother had kept them so isolated, but this definitely would’ve felt more like a romance if she’d had more on page time with Aiden. Their chemistry was clear, but there were a lot of issues for them both to work through and they spent a great deal of this book pushing each other away and trying to protect themselves from potential heartbreak.

Overall, this book was a surprise for me. It was a bit less romantic than I had hoped and also less Christmassy, and yet, Aiden whipped out a beautiful bit of romance right at the end. That completely melted me, and I would’ve loved to see a similar confession out of Kyra. I really loved this small-town setting and all the found family here. There’s also definitely something to be said for the character development and how well the supporting characters were fleshed out, although possibly to the slight detriment of the main characters’ on page romance. Nonetheless, this is a new series I’m excited to continue and I especially can’t wait to read Tess and Silas’ story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

This book seemed more 'cute mountain town with a little romance thrown in' versus a 'romance that's set in a cute mountain town.' I wasn't feeling the romance. I found Kyra and Aiden a cute couple, but we don't see them as a couple very often in my opinion. The townspeople were always there it seemed. Then there's the lack of communication between the two. They both have baggage and they're holding onto it with a tight grip. I just wanted them to talk about their problems with someone or at the very least be honest with each other!

The book did start off great and I was intrigued by the quiet and serious Aiden. He was a Navy SEAL and along with his two best friends who were also SEALs, they run a construction business and help Aiden's sister out on her ranch. Aiden's best friend was married to his sister, but he was killed in action during one of their missions. They all promised to take care of Tess and her two little girls if something happened to him. I loved that they were all there for her. The relationship Aiden had with his little nieces was precious. Did Aiden take his promise a little too seriously? Absolutely! But it only took a whole book for him to finally get the help he needed and come to his senses.

I wanted to like Kyra but she was a bit too set in her 'life plan' and seemed inflexible when it came to leaving. Just like Aiden, she comes to her senses, a lot faster than Aiden at least. But I didn't like that she was wishy-washy with her 'should I stay or should I go' mentality. Her dad divorced her mother and ran off with Kyra's best friend's mom to this sleepy mountain town. She didn't hear from her dad in all those years after. He died and left the town to Kyra with some stipulations before she could sell. Kyra was set on moving to London to be a nurse practitioner. She wanted nothing to do with her dad or how he lived his life. I get it, I really did. I can't say I'd have felt differently. I did like that Kyra was welcoming to the townspeople and wasn't hostile. She had a good heart, she was just hurt by her father and wasn't open to feeling like she would have been had she experienced life differently.

I'll read the next book in the series. I'd like to see Tess get her HEA.

Kyra Fowler have to take a leave of absence from her nursing job to go to Star Valley, Wyoming, the town she just inherited! As the will stipulates, she have to deal with a few improvements before she can sell anything. As if receiving a town for an inheritance wasn't already strange enough, the fact that she haven't seen the man for the last 18 years, when he left his family for an other, makes the whole thing that much peculiar.

After a few years with the Navy SEAL, not all Aiden's friends came back with him. Feeling guilty for not being able to save his brother-in-law, he's spending all his time helping at his sister's ranch and making sure that she and her daughters have everything they need.

Aiden also works in construction so it's only natural that he'll be the one helping Kyra with the renovations. But everyone in Star Valley know what will happen to their small town once it's sold to rich men and their projects. No one want that. So it's up to him, with a little help from the townfolks, to make her fall in love with the place so she'll change her mind about starting a new life in London and stay here.

Wishing On A Christmas Cowboy is the first book on a new series by Sara Richardson. Her books always bring me such comfort and she knows how to create characters who will touch your heart. When we hear about PTSD, we often read about the nightmares, the flashbacks or the tremors for instead but in this novel, it shows how the survivor's guilt is also a big part of it. Kyra discover some things that will change her view of the past and it's heartbreaking to witness it with her.

Kyra Fowler is a pediatric nurse who will be moving to London, England for a new job at a prestigious children’s hospital. All she has to do is sell the Wyoming town that she inherited from her estranged father. She goes there to take care of business. Once she’s done she will leave it all behind. Why did her father leave it to her? He’s never wanted to see her. So why now, especially since her mom has passed.
Kyra meets ex-Navy seal Aiden Steele when she got lost. Aiden is helping take care of his sister and nieces since his brother-in-law died overseas on the battlefield. Aiden feels responsible so he’s doing everything he can to make their lives better. He knows kyra’s father and respected him. The whole town does. Even though she feels attracted to Aiden, her job is to get the jobs done, sell it and move on. The Christmas magic of this town and the people might just be what Kyra needs. She’ll learn things about her father. Wonders why her mother kept a secret. Maybe, just maybe this is what her father wanted her to see. She can’t change the past but she can move forward with the love of the town and people. Maybe she can help Aiden too. He struggles with the loss of his brother-in-law. Will Aiden get help? Will she sell the town? Will she fall in love with the town and people? This story has great characters.

Aiden can be my cowboy any day! A former Navy SEAL, he lives in a tucked away valley in Wyoming with his widowed sister and her daughters. Aiden feels guilty for the death of her husband in a mission and now the town might be sold because of the new owner, Kyra.
Kyra has her own demons to contend but she wants to lose Wyoming for London. But London doesn’t have former SEAL hottie cowboy Aiden. Will Kyra trade the lights of London for the wilds of Wyoming?
Cowboys are my weak spot and Aiden can cowboy for me any time,

Thank you NetGalley, Sara Richardson and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy. This is my personal review.
This is the first book in the Star Valley series. The first thing that caught my eye was the cover of the book.
The next thing I really liked was the location of the story. Small town in Wyoming cowboy romance at Christmas time makes for a book that I devoured in a very short time.
Aiden and Kyra fit together so perfectly that I couldn’t help but like them both. They each had a back story and to read what it was and how they were each able to move on in their lives and get to grow in their relationship was great.
This is one book you will want to get and grab a cup of coffee and a cozy blanket. The time you are reading will be time well spent.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is the first book in this series. A Nurse Practitioner is a town when her father, who abandoned her as a child, dies. She comes to town to sell the town but finds out all she was told about father was not true. She struggles with her feeling for a cowboy as she falls for him and the town. This was a quick Christmas read.

I picked this book up while on vacation and enjoyed it. Kyra has inherited a town from her father. Her father left her when she was a small girl, and she had not heard anything from him since. The story develops and she decides to sell the town and go back to a job she had applied for in London. of course there is a cowboy there that helps to change her mind.

Kyra inherited her estranged father's ranch and holdings that basically encompassed an entire town in Wyoming. She hadn't spoken to her father since he left after a bitter divorce from her mother when she was 10. The terms of his will require that Kyra complete some work in the town prior to her being able to sell any of the land. Kyra' travels to Wyoming to get it done and move on to a new life in London. Aiden is a former Navy SEAL who returned back to his hometown in Wyoming after his brother-in-law and former teammate was killed in action. He's devoted his entire life to his sister and nieces as a tribute to his brother-in-law. Aiden is suffering from some pretty severe PTSD and survivor's guilt. When he meets Kyra - he and the rest of the town embark on a mission to keep her from selling out. They want their small town to stay the same and not lose its charm and strong sense of community.

Kyra and Aiden spark off of each other - but they both have a lot of baggage to deal with. Kyra definitely works through a lot of her pain and finds a sense of belonging in the small town. Aiden - not so much. He starts to work through things at the end of the book, but there isn't a lot of growth during the story itself. There also isn't a heck of a lot of time between Aiden and Kyra in the book - and what time they do have - I just really wanted them to talk to each other. Even with Aiden's PTSD - I feel like a lot of the drama of the book could have been managed by a few honest conversations.

I'll admit I never really enjoy "big secret" books - where something is being kept from one of the main characters - and this definitely qualifies. No one wants to tell Kyra that selling her land would likely result in long term damage to the businesses and livelihoods of the town. There isn't a real reason for it - other than not wanting to guilt her in to staying - but at the same time, it just didn't make sense to me why they wouldn't lay it out for her and let her make an educated decision. They could still proceed with their plans to get her to like the town - but without the omissions of truth.

Overall - I liked this one, but these factors really kept me from loving it.

I received this book as an ARC via NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Kyra inherited her estranged father's estate, including a small Wyoming town which she intends to sell to a developer to finance her dream of moving to London, England. Aiden is a broken war hero living his life to take care of his sister and her two daughters after his best friend, and brother-in-law James dies while on a mission with him. Neither Aiden nor Kyra is interested in romance, but Aiden is determined to convince Kyra not to sell the town. He enlists the town to help him learn to love the town so she won't want to sell. Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is a sweet, fun story that will fill you with the Christmas spirit!

Another Hallmarkesque holiday romance starring a woman who inherits something that she wants to get rid of and lots of baggage from childhood. Also starring a long haired tatted ex Navy SEAL, charged with getting her to change her mind, Co starring a lost sister and a band of white haired busybodies.

Predictable, but great for anyone who likes to curl up by a fire with a love story.

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC.

I’m such a sucker for cowboy romances! Especially ones that are christmasy and give the hallmark vibes! This was exactly that with angst! I really enjoyed this sweet, heartwarming romance.

I think Kyra and Aiden were meant to be and perfectly matched. They really deserved an HEA, though it took a lot to get there.

Kyra is a nurse ready for her new job in London but she finds out that she’s inherited a house & small town from her father. So she goes to this small town ready to sale….only she needs to repair a few things at the house.

Aiden is an ex-seal who struggles with PTSD. He’s the only one who can do the repairs for Kyra. Aiden doesn’t want her to sale so he comes up with a plan to get her to fall in love with the town while he slowly does his work.

These two have good chemistry together and are supportive! But both have a past to move forward from in order to have a future. Such a sweet romance read! I was given an advanced copy for my review.

Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy by Sara Richardson is the perfect story that puts you in the mindset for a Christmas romance. With endearing characters, touching and thought provoking plot lines, and the joyous holiday preparations that create lasting memories for loved ones. Witty and wry banter and a sharp dialog keeps the pages turning…not to mention a scorching chemistry that singe the pages.

A great start to a brand new series from Sara Richardson!!

This was a sweet, small-town romance that also packed a pretty decent emotional punch. Between Aiden's PTSD and survivors guilt and Kyra dealing with her grief and the new information about her parents, this story was definitely more than "just a romance".

I really enjoyed reading as Aiden and Kyra got to know each other and eventually opened up to each other and how they helped each other to slowly heel. I absolutely adored Aiden's love and interactions with his nieces and how quickly they connected to Kyra. I was NOT a fan of the conflict and how Aiden reacted to a secret being revealed but it wasn't anything that wasn't redeemable. All in all, this was a super low-angst read that I enjoyed reading and will definitely be reading more in the series. I'm particularly looking forward to a certain pairing that was illuded to. ;-P
