Winter Falls #1

My Forever Love

Rate this book
I may be back in my hometown and down on my luck, but I know better than to fall for Lyric again. Been there. Done that. Have the heartbreak to show for it.

When my business and apartment burn down, there’s only one thing I can do – return to my hometown of Winter Falls with my tail tucked between my legs.

I won’t be here long, though. As soon as the insurance company decides I didn’t start the fire – one little accidental fire to get out of a math test does not make me an arsonist! – and cuts me a check for the damage, I’m out of here.

The people of Winter Falls feel differently. They’re determined I rekindle my romance with my first love, Lyric Alston, and stay forever. Not happening. The man destroyed my heart once, I’m not giving him another chance.

But when I call Lyric out for what he did, he has no clue what I’m talking about. Did I get it wrong? Did I not see what I thought I saw?

Once Lyric realizes I didn’t abandon him, he goes all out to convince me to stay in Winter Falls and give him a second chance. Did he forget I’m not here to stay?

Can My First Love turn into My Forever Love?

This small town second chance romantic comedy features a sassy woman who’s not afraid to speak her mind, a sexy Chief of Police determined to do what’s necessary to win her back, the cutest rescue dog in history, and a whole town full of hippies who think being a busybody is a good thing.

My First Love is a standalone novel in the Winter Falls series.

My Forever Love
By D.E. Haggerty

When Aspen's store and apartment burn down, she goes back to the only place she can, her hometown and her family. Unfortunately, she runs into the only man she has ever loved, Lyric, who is now the Chief of Police and attempts to give her a ticket on her way into town.

Aspen later finds out it was a misunderstanding that's kept them apart all this time.

I didn't really care for the book at all. There was no true angst, no chemistry between the MC's, and no spice. I felt it was a book written for the good girl next door type of woman.

A funny, cute second chance , small town romance!

Aspen and Lyric grew up in the small town of Winter Falls. They were very much in love and together through college, but after graduation, Aspen wanted to leave the small town and move to Dallas to open a book store, while Lyric never wanted to leave. They parted ways with a promise to keep in touch, but a huge misunderstanding caused a lot of hurt, and that promise never happened. Now, ten years later, Aspen is back in Winter falls….temporarily. And it seems like the whole town is conspiring to get the two to spark the old flames and rekindle their love…

DE Haggerty is a new to me author and the Narrators. Rachel Woods and  Luke Parker were also new to me, so I was not sure what to expect, but I truly enjoyed this book. It was quirky and charming,  low on drama high on laughs and just an overall fun and sweet Rom-Com. I liked all of the characters and especially enjoyed Aspen and her sisters, who all have wonderful,  unique personalities. I loved Aspen she was sassy and sarcastic, I found Lyric kind of adorable and sweet. Together, they had witty banter and great chemistry and really were a cute pair.

The narrators did a great job narrating in duet. They had good pacing, great distinguishing of characters, and really brought each personality to life. Wonderful performances by both!

I would definitely recommend this listen, and I look forward to exploring the rest of this series, especially Ashlyn and Rowan!!

This was a great small town, second chance romance.

Aspen had such a standout personality, she was very amusing, especially when she interacted with her sisters. And what can I say about Lyric? He was such a sweetheart, even after all those years of wonder, his love for Aspen remained true.

I absolutely enjoyed not only learning about Aspen and Lyric, I was also captivated by Winter Falls. The author really brought to life this small town from the history of the town, to the residents of Winter Falls. Each of the characters that were introduced had their own personality and names that were so unique.

We can’t forget Aspen’s lovable dog, Waffles. Although, he wasn’t on every page, when he was, he definitely stole the spotlight for me. He was such an adorable entertaining dog.

This is the first book of the Winter Falls series and I can’t wait to read the next one that continues on to Aspen’s sister, Ashlyn.

Ok… I seriously love this new series… what a fantastic spin on the small town second chance romance theme! I enjoyed the quirky community and how they were all up in the business of getting the two characters back together….mix in a hot chief of police and a feisty leading lady and you have a very entertaining read! Welcome to Winter Falls where there aren't many rules to follow other than keeping things green and immersing yourself in everyone else's business.

Aspen ends up back in town thanks to a fire that destroyed her business and apartment. While she waits for the insurance company, she returns back to Winter Falls and the first person she runs into is her former flame, Lyric. The sparks fly between these two and it doesn't take long for them to fall back in with each other despite Aspen's ruminations that once the insurance company pays she will head back to Dallas. She doesn't expect the whole town to conspire against her and coerce her to stay in town. They even come up with a name for it, Project Weston (a combination of their last names).

This book is full of sassy characters that say what they want. I think I would love this town and want to know where it is so I can move there! Everyone is so open about life, love, sex, and everything in between. There are so many lines that made me laugh out loud but at the same time, so many lines that rang true and we could all take to heart.

Aspen's sisters are a mixed bag of personalities but they all have each other's backs when it comes to life and love. I can't wait to see what is in store for each of them in future books.

I always enjoy books from this author and this one was no exception. We give it 5 paws up.

This was the first book by this author that I have read and I have to admit that it was the book description that had me downloading books 1-3 in the series. I did like the part where the entire town has to go gas-free or get a ticket for driving an environmentally harmful vehicle. It reminded me of Mackinaw Island in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan where the only mode of transportation is by horse and buggy but that's where my appreciation for this particular town came to an end. Everything was way too over-the-top and while it was a good concept I just could not visualize an entire town going all-in to the organic and environment preservation concept to be believable. At least, not to the extent shown here. The h also got annoying and I just wished she would go back to Dallas as she repeatedly kept saying she was going to do. I will read the other books in the series that I downloaded because that's only fair to the author and I did make a commitment to read them but if they are going to continue in this theme it may be more skimming than actual reading.

It's release day! 🥳🥳🥳 If you're wondering what the small town of Winter Falls is like, I'm pretty sure this excerpt will fill in all the blanks 😉

“Did someone report a disturbance?”

Feather, Petal, and Sage scream. “A stripper? Aspen, you’re our favorite bookstore owner ever.”

“Are you high?” Not a good question to ask in Winter Falls. “Never mind. He’s not a stripper. He’s the Chief of Police.”

“Why can’t he be both?” Feather winks at Lyric, and his face darkens to the color of a sun ripened tomato.

I shrug. “I guess he could. What do you say, Chief? You want to strip for us?”

He rallies. Of course, he rallies. So much for witnessing Lyric run away with his tail tucked between his legs. Too bad. The pictures would have been awesome.

“I’m sorry, ladies, but I’m afraid I’m a one woman man.”

“Oh, come on. We promise not to touch, boss,” Sage says.

“I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable at work.” He winks at her. “You know because you’d be harboring impure thoughts about the boss during working hours.”

She licks her lips and lets her eyes roam up and down his body. “Who says I don’t have impure thoughts about the boss now?”

Feather riffles through her purse and digs out a bunch of ones before waving them around. “And we’ll pay you.”

“I’m sorry to inform you the town ordinance forbids me from stripping for you lovely ladies.” Ladies? They’re practically eating him alive with their eyes. Aren’t ladies supposed to be demure?

Everyone looks to Lilac for confirmation. “It’s true. The Chief of Police is not allowed to earn any additional money other than his salary as police chief.”

“This is some bull cocky.” Feather throws her ones down on the floor.

It was fun at first, and then it started to get repetitive. She wouldn't open her mind, at all. I liked the hero, he was determined. I also liked the family, the sisters were a funny chaos. I will definitely be reading the next books in the series.

The couple: Lyric and Aspen

Romance trope: second chance
Series: Winter Falls
Length: 230 pages

Plot: Aspen has finally come back to her hometown after a decade away. Her home and shop burned down and she needs a little time to wait out the insurance claim. But the new chief of police also happens to be the boy she left behind and she doesn't want to run into him all over the place. But did he do what she thinks he did? After all the years, could the reason she left him for good be a lie?

Commentary: What a weird town. And maybe I shouldn't judge, but what weird people. I think it's supposed to be some sort of ecological utopia, but it just comes off as narrow-minded hippies. In a twist of fate, the one person who left town was the one who wasn't so smart after all. And it was strange that her sisters explained what really happened with Lyric, and despite that, she was still making him explain the thing that didn't actually happen and that he didn't even know she "saw." She was a little bit of a shrew. I know that term is used in a sexist way, but in this case, i think it actually fits.

Next book in the series: Forever For You

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I love these story. I couldn't put the book down. Great characters that will pull you into their story and pulls at your heart strings and emotions! Aspen and Lyric have great chemistry, panty melting heat and some emotional baggage. This story has drama, heart, love, hope, passion, forgiveness, and family. The story flows effortlessly with a few twists and turns that will keep you glued from start to finish.

I just love this author - when I need an escape from the madness of everyday life I grab one of her books and relax enjoying the shenaningans of her wonderful characters. Siblings ribbing each other, interfering small town busybodies, embarassing parents always meaning well but still driving you up the wall. I can´t wait for the next book in this series.

If you’re looking for syrup sweet romance set in a quirky town, this is it

If you’re looking for syrup sweet romance set in a quirky town, this is it. Winter Falls was founded by some earth loving hippies, and everything about it follows the quirky hippy trend. From their names, their crazy laws and ordinances, and the way they all are way too involved in everyone else’s business. If you can’t take over the top and a little ridiculous, you might want to skip this one.

Aspen returns to town after a decade away when her apartment and business burn to the ground. She never wanted to return to Winter Falls, and definitely didn’t want to run into Lyric, her high school and college sweetheart. He believes she left for the big city and ghosted him, and she believes he cheated because when he turned around to come back she saw him kissing another girl in the bar. She never shared with anyone that she saw him, so no one knows she thinks he cheated. And naturally now that she’s back the entire town conspires to get them back together. There’s loads of quirky characters, parents talking about their smex life at dinner like it’s normal, scheming neighbors determined to make the reunion happen. It’s all very extra and a little too Pollyanna and cutesy, but sometimes that’s just what you need to read. Just know to expect it, along with a sweet tooth, when you start!

This was such a strange read, but it captured my attention, and I finished it in one day. I love a small town read with nosey family and friends but this was next level, from the nosey old ladies obsessed with talking about sex, to the hippie residents and names, I was completely engrossed and have to find out what was going on in this town! A few good laughs throughout the story as well, all in all it was a great read, only giving 4 stars as I would have liked to see a bit more angst, but it was still an enjoyable read

Just stop

Like why was this book so annoying to the point it actually kept pissing me off. The amount of getting in everyone else’s business was over the top. I Arely got through 50% and just started skimming through the Ben though I was pretty sure what would happen. And why make the the younger females in this book seem like they have no voice, choice, nothing. It’s what everyone else wants and their feelings and lives don’t matter. I will not be reading anymore from this series.

Loved this book! It’s such a good start to a new series. The town was absolutely hilarious and I would visit it right away if it was real. The characters were so much fun to read about and their story was great. I can’t wait for the next stories in this series and to read about the characters again.

My Forever Love is book one in the Winter Falls series and is the second chance, small town romantic comedy of Aspen West and Lyric Alston.
As a teen Aspen was always looking for adventure and dreamt about leaving small town Winter Falls behind for the big city lights of somewhere like New York, Los Angeles, or Phoenix, however, when Aspen did eventually leave town, she opted to make the Lone Star state her home and settled on Dallas for a decade until her dream quite literally went up in smoke. She is forced to head back to Winter Falls, Colorado until the insurance company finishes its investigation and decides whether they will payout and she can rebuild her bookstore and home. As Aspen is approaching the town limits in the old clapped-out gas guzzling car packed with her meagre belongings, her dog Waffles and covered in Cheeto stains she is pulled over by none other than her ex, Chief of Police Lyric Alston for breaching the carbon neutral rule as Winter Falls is the first carbon neutral town in the Country. Aspen is her usual sassy self and declines the ticket and heads to her parents and is enveloped by her parents and four sisters, Ellery, Lilac, Juniper, and Ashlyn who are thrilled to have her home. The whole town is on a crusade to get Aspen and Lyric back together, operation Weston as the town has dubbed it, so when the bookstore owner injures herself, she calls on Aspen and gives her free reign to improve the business and eventually offers her the chanced to buy the store from her. Aspen has a lot to consider, least of all she must navigate her feelings for Lyric and decide whether to rebuild in Dallas or start a new life in her hometown.
Lyric Alston had always dreamt of being a police officer in his hometown, a town he is very proud to have grown up in that is self-sufficient, generates its own power, has its own shops run by locals…no chain stores, a town where everyone knows everything about each other. Lyric was in love with Aspen from a young age and he always knew she had ideas beyond their small-town bubble, but hoped their love would be enough to keep her with him. However, one day she broke his heart when she left town and didn’t return his calls or answer his emails. Now, a decade later, Aspen is back in Winter Falls and all those old feelings come flooding back. With everyone in town working on a reunion between the childhood sweethearts, will Lyric be able to put the past behind him and convince Aspen to stay this time?
New to me narrators Rachel Woods and Luke Parker bring this audiobook to like and what an incredible job they do!
Ms woods performance as the down on her luck book loving Aspen who has a big decision to make was phenomenal. Rachel’s sweet, melodic voice was alluring perfect to showcase the confused bookstore owner.
Mr Parker’s portrayal as Chief of Police Lyric who is not only proud of the job but is proud to be part of the first carbon neutral community was superb. Luke’s deep gravelly tone was perfect to characterise authoritative Lyric.
This audiobook was filled with firsts for me. My first D.E. Haggerty title performed by two new to me narrators Rachel Woods and Luke Parker, who did an incredible job leaving me wanting to explore more titles by these voice actors.
Overall, I loved this audiobook and cannot wait to return to Winter Falls.
If you love a good second chance, small town romantic comedy filled with crazy siblings, sex crazed elders and a community that cares as much about each other as they do about the environment and being sustainable, then you’ll want this in your library.

The last place Aspen wants to be is back home in Winter Falls but when her life in Dallas quite literally goes up in flames she has no choice but to return home until her insurance company pays her out. But coming back home also means coming face to face with Lyric Alston, the boy that broke her heart all those years ago. With the payout taking longer than expected Aspen can’t help but begin to fall in love with her cute small town and all the meddlesome townspeople and just maybe with the one man she swore never to let near her heart again…

..

Small town romance… hells to the yes please! This trope always gets me and Dena just knows how to keep her readers hooked right from that first chapter! My Forever Love was the perfect start to what is looking to be one of Dena’s best and most hilarious series to date!

..

I just adored Lyric, it was hard not to love this guy. Even though he was chief of police he had such a fun side to him. What can I say I’m a total sucker for a man in uniform with a playful side. And it sure didn’t hurt that when he learnt all about Aspens misunderstanding he went out of his way to win her back, cue in major swoon. As for our girl Aspen, it was pretty hard not to love her. I really liked getting to see her fall in love with her hometown all over again and realising these are her people and this is her home. I just love the relationship that she had with her crazy sisters and the antics that they got up too.

..

Please take me to Winter Falls!! This quirky cute, nosey small town was everything!! I just loved the entire concept of this carbon free town foundered by a bunch of hippies. I just loved that they all drove electric gold carts, this was just the perfect little slice of paradise. It was impossible not to instantly love all the townspeople with their well-meaning meddling and the quirky names. Also I just loved they were all up in each others business. I just loved getting to see both Aspen and Lyric’s siblings team up with the towns folk to try and bring these two back together.

..

My Forever Love is a must read! This small town, second chance romance is definitely going to worm its way into your heart, that much I am sure off! This was one of those books that you just can’t put down without say one more chapter please. I absolutely can’t wait to jump right back into Winter Falls with the next book in this series.

🎧 MY FOREVER LOVE by DE Haggerty 🎧
🎤Narrated by Rachel Woods & Luke Parker🎤

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️
Narration 🎧🎧🎧.5

This is such a cute story, but if you’re looking for lots of spice you won’t find it here. However, what you will find is a small town second chance romance that’ll make you swoon. While I do enjoy a bit more spice in my books I did get swept away with the sweetness of the MMC, so I guess that makes up for the lack of smut 😂

The story of Aspen and Lyric is a really cute second chance romance. They were high school sweethearts and everyone, including them, thought they’d be together forever. But when Aspen wanted to leave the small town of Winter Falls and spread her wings Lyric didn’t. So Aspen left, but now she’s back because she’s got nowhere else to go after her dreams burned down. Of course she runs into Lyric, the chief of police, before even truly getting into town. And after that first look at each other they both know it’s true what they say … true love never really dies, but neither are willing to go there again … or are they??

I adored this little town of Winter Falls. I think the rules and regulations of going green was an aspect I really haven’t heard in anything I’ve read and it added such a creative twist to this town. I absolutely loved the names of the characters in this book, every time I new hippie name showed up I could feel myself smile or giggle (always a plus when reading/listening to a book). Also let’s not forget the one rule in every small town … it’s the towns business to know everyone’s business … and Winter Falls is no different, case in point, “Project Weston” (getting Aspen & Lyric back together) I’m not even kidding, the whole town gets in on it.

I’m new to both narrators and while I enjoyed Luke Parker and think he did a great job of the MMC I did have a harder time with Rachel Woods. I felt like she always talked with sarcasm, even when there was no need for it. That being said I was still able to enjoy the book and as it was my first audiobook with her I would listen to another to see if she does the same in the next book. Second chances and all you know 😉

Welcome to the delight that is Winter Falls…

Story: 4 ⭐️s
Narration: 4.5 ⭐️s

This book was a combination of a few firsts for me - first D.B. Haggerty book and 2 new-to-me narrators on the audio. And while it was also a bit by the numbers in terms of the execution of the central second chance romance trope, the characters and setting were charming, and the narrators were well-cast; which all went a long way in papering over the cracks for me.

Aspen and Lyrik are fine MCs. In many ways, Lyrik was typical small town sheriff MMC and Aspen the typical returning to her hometown after a crisis FMC - that’s the by the numbers bit (lots of inner redundant inner monologuing to manufacture will-they-won’t-they, plus contrived misunderstanding). What elevated this book was the unique setting of Winter Falls and its cooky cast of characters. The idea of a town founded by hippies and almost aggressively green, was so fun to read. The town meeting scenes and adults only side of town life were hilarious, and the machinations of family and townsfolk around the MCs just delightful. Aspen’s family is a riot and Haggerty tees up other characters for their own stories is a way that makes me want to return to Winter Falls. I honestly can’t wait for the other West sisters to meet their matches. Then there’s Waffles, who is adorable - I just can’t resist a cute dog in a romance.

The audiobook was great and it is duet, which is a joy when done well, and it was so here. It was my first time listening to both Rachel Woods and Luke Parker and both did a really good job, with Wood’s performance slightly edging out Parker. She was a little more dynamic in her delivery and ability to portray different characters. However, they are both talented and I look forward to future performances.

I recommend this one if you like a unique twist to the small town with a fun cast of characters and a serviceable second chance romance.

I received an ALC copy of the audiobook via Home Cooked Books and read the ebook via KU. All opinions are my own.

This was a very funny and cute romance! I really loved how the small town was not-so-subtle with their meddling and seeing the sisters pull off pranks or hearing of what they have done in the past adds much to the humor. I really loved Aspen's sisters dynamic that I can't wait to read more about the rest of them. I wished we got more of Lyric's siblings as well.

The fallout was because of some weird thing that happened and seeing how it ended and the fact that now when they are near, you can still see that they haven't lost those feelings yet after that long of a time.

The only things that I disliked or was confused about the book was how a lot of the side stories like the whole money hunt thing was introduced but barely any justice was done to that storyline properly. and the fact that even after reading the book I am unclear and unable to understand emotionally and in-depth why Aspen so badly wanted to and still tried convincing she wants to leave for Dallas and similarly why Aspen wanted to stay near home but then suddenly they are ready to go behind one another as well.. It would have been great to have gotten at least one or two chapters on that esp. from the past to have understood these people well.

This book is a funny, small-town, romance read. You might not get much attached to the characters or get to know them, but you will nevertheless enjoy them and their dynamics (even with their siblings and the small town).

EDIT: Started reading the other books in the series. The other books have a lot of overlapping timelines, and the side story of the whole treasure hunt is being continued across the series. So if you just want to read a romance book, good to read as a standalone. But if you want to follow along the side story, the whole story will give you the full story (though since there are overlapping timelines some of the overall idea would be covered again).

My Forever Love is the first book in the Winter Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Aspen is back in her hometown of Winter Falls after her business and apartment burn down. Everyone in Winter Falls is attempting to set her up with her first love, Lyric. But she’s determined not to fall for him again, not after the way things ended between them all those years ago.

This was such a cute second chance romance. It was clear that there was a lot of love between Lyrics and Aspen, but Lyric especially. He let her know how he felt, and he wasn’t going to give up on her. He was so charming, and he was well loved, considering the entire town was “on his side” in trying to get Aspen to give him another chance. Lyric was the Chief of Police and even though he took his job seriously, he was never too serious outside of his job – he was always joking and having fun.

Aspen’s family was fun too. Her mom really had no boundaries or filter and would talk about anything with Aspen -- which made it hilarious. And her sisters were always prying into her business to share it with the town.

Now, what I didn’t like was the miscommunication. Or at least the reason they broke up. It was a little confusing because it seemed like two different stories were told.

Other than that, I enjoyed this and look forward to more from this author.

Audio
Narrators: Rachel Woods and Luke Parker
Style: Duet

I’ll be honest, I did not enjoy Rachel Woods’s narration. The characters sounded different sometimes, but most times, they sounded the same. Additionally, it always sounded like she was drawing out the last word in the sentence, and I’m not sure how to explain it, but it sounded like an accusatory tone. Luke Parker, on the other hand, did an excellent job, and I enjoyed his performance.

A new series!!! Welcome to Winter Falls Colorado, a community of hippies and environmentally conscious people where you may just see a chipmunk walking on a leash.

Aspen is the oldest of five girls all born in Winter Falls and all named after trees. Her mother is the school principal and her father is an attorney. Their story is in the novella "My Forever Plan" which is tells the story of how they met and moved to Winter Falls. Aspen has always wanted more than her little hometown and right after college moves away, leaving her boyfriend Lyric behind.

Lyric is the oldest of three boys all born in Winter Falls. His goal was always to stay and become Chief of Police which he achieves at age 30. He and Aspen were high school sweethearts but on the day that Aspen left a misunderstanding leaves the two of them with very different stories on how their relationship ended.

When Aspen's life burns to the ground (literally) she has to return home while she waits for the insurance settlement. This takes longer than she anticipated and she realizes that maybe she loves her town and those in it more than she realized. The townspeople also see an opportunity to help Aspen and Lyric rekindle their relationship and meddle at every opportunity.

When Aspen and Lyric finally come clean about what they thought happened it opens the door to their friendship and maybe more. But the biggest question is what will Aspen do when the settlement is received - does she return to the life she had in Dallas or stay and begin a new life?

The characters in this book are what we have come to expect in a D.E. Haggerty book. They are funny and flawed and the love each other deeply.

In this enjoyable small-town romance, we are introduced to Aspen and Lyric. A couple in high school, they each misinterpret the events surrounding their breakup, holding on to their anger for a decade. Having moved away from Winter Falls, when Aspen's life burns to the ground - literally - she returns home while she decides what to do next. Having successfully avoided Lyric for most of the last ten years, she knows she won't be so lucky during her extended stay at home.

As they slowly reveal their secrets about the night they split, both Aspen and Lyric gain a different perspective on what actually happened. Add in an entire town determined to get them back together, interfering family members and a lot of chemistry and it's only a matter of time before those old feelings resurface.

I really enjoyed Aspen's spirit and fierce independence. While she wants to do what's right for herself, she is also devoted to her family and friends. She is so worried about disappointing them. Lyric is the more mainstream of the two characters. Raised in the carbon-neutral hippie Eden that is Winter Falls, he's somehow grown up to be a steady and reasonable adult. Aspen walks a bit more on the wild side, being drawn into various shenanigans by her sisters and the rest of her family. The town itself is filled with a myriad of unconventional characters that add a lot of fun and color to the story. They're a bunch of busybodies with a tendency to overshare their personal lives. While a bit overbearing at times, they are good-hearted people that each march to the beat of their own drum.

Four stars for this light-hearted second chance romance that introduces the reader to the wacky world of Winter Falls.

This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

What a lovely, lighthearted start to D.E.Haggerty's new series, pure escapism in these troubled times.
He cheated on me ten years ago and broke my heart ! She walked out on me ten years ago without a backward glance, she broke my heart.
Lyric Alston and Aspen West had been childhood sweethearts, inseparable until graduation when Aspen hankered after the bright lights of Dallas and Lyric's roots were firmly planted in Winter Falls........the parting wasn't amicable.
Aspen had built a life for herself in Dallas, she had bought a bookshop and the cafe next door and then tragedy struck and she was forced to return to Winter falls, Winter Falls, the small town that was built by the hippy founders, a town where the people had names like Feather,Petal, Saffron and Moonbeam, a town that was completely carbon neutral, where all the food was neutral organic, where everyone rode around in electric golf carts.........Oh! and everyone knew everyone and their business, there were no secrets in Winter Falls.
Lyric was now Chief of Police in Winter Falls, how did he feel about the girl who broke his heart being back in town ?
This story follows the cunning antics of Aspen's four sisters, Lyric's two brothers and every other interfering member of the community trying to get Aspen and Lyric back together, it was clear to everyone that they were still mad about each other they just needed a little push but could Aspen give up her life in the city ? or could Lyric leave the town and the job that he loved ? A great start to a new series, I look forward to the next book.

A fun romantic comedy with a growly Police Chief

Doncha just love a hot and gorgeous man who growls??
Well, I do. And I love second chances, small towns, rom coms and Author DE Haggerty’s books. Within the pages of MY FIRST FOREVER LOVE, the first book in Her Winter Falls series, she gave me exactly all that.

Aspen West and her sisters have had an unconventional upbringing with their hippie parents in a small town that supports solid environmental values, and has laws for all sorts of stuff, except skinny-dipping at midnight! There’s no law against that!!!

It’s a town where everyone knows your business before you do, but will absolutely support each citizen at the drop of a hat. It provides great comedic fodder for the background of this book. So when Aspen suddenly splits up with her one true love, and settles in the big city for 10 years, there’s going to be disappoint, supposition and chatter.

Lyric Alston achieved his goal in becoming Chief of Police in the small town of Winter Falls, but the main ingredient in achieving his absolute happiness was missing. His childhood sweetheart and the possibility of their children.

So when she shows up albeit temporarily, it seems everyone has a stake in the outcome, resulting in one awesome romantic story that had me laughing away to myself and that I absolutely enjoyed. 4.5 Stars ❄✰•
