When I found out that High Line by T.A. Chase is the second book in the Love of Sports series, I knew I had to immediately read it. I really liked Kasey’s story in the first book, Out of Bounds, and I hoped that I would enjoy read about Garrett, Kasey’s twin brothers, story as well. I had no problem loving this book. Honestly, I even enjoyed it more than Out of Bounds. I find myself hoping that he will continue writing more about these characters, because I really loved them all.

As expected, High Line has a very addictive and fast paced storyline. It was easy to care about Garrett and C.J. Plus, Kasey and Gram played a pretty strong role in it too. And things start to get real. Once again, T.A. grabbed my attention from the first Chapter and didn’t let up until I read the last word.

When Garrett and C.J. first meet, things might be going very well in their professional life, Garrett is a very famous Movie Star and C.J. is a popular NASCAR driver, but their personal life is turning into shambles. Garrett and his lover of several years are on the verge of breaking up, and C.J. is in the process of getting a divorce.

Garrett is about to star in a movie where he plays a race car driver, and C.J. has been hired to show him the ropes. In the short time they are together, they become tentative friends, and dance around the fact that they are attracted to one another. Right now, neither Garrett nor C.J. is ready or willing to allow their relationship to go any further.

It’s important to point out that C.J. is still firmly in the closet. Although he married very young, he carries a lot of guilt and shame because he hurt his wife since he is unable to live in denial of his sexual feelings toward other men any longer. He is not a cheater, nor has he cheated on his wife. He just can’t live this lie anymore because it’s eating him up inside. So I never had an issue with his behavior.

A year after Garrett and C.J. meet, C.J. has been outted as a homosexual to the public by his angry ex-wife. He has lost all of his NASCAR sponsorship deals and possibly his job. He is on the verge of becoming an alcoholic, and has reached a very low point in his life. When he and Garrett run into one another at a club, Garrett literally saves C.J. from making a terrible mistake (you’ll have to read it) and takes him home to help him out.

Garrett and his ex have had a very rocky breakup. Since he has been unable to save his ex from substance abuse, his decides to do what he can to help out C.J. They quickly get reacquainted and become fast friends.

As Garrett and C.J. fall in love, C.J. must face some difficult decisions ahead. Is he willing to risk everything to keep the love of his life?

How can anyone not love Garrett? His generous heart and loving spirit makes him loveable and easy to fall for. He shows C.J. what patience, friendship, forgiveness and love is all about. Watching them become friends, then lovers was truly a very loving experience.

I think this could be read as a stand alone book, but I highly recommend reading Kasey’s story, Out of Bounds, so you can get the full effect of the relationship that develops between the men. I loved all of them. I pray that this is not the end of their story. Maybe T.A. will take pity on us and write a 3rd book in the series! PLEASE!

Oh yeah, you’ll need to turn down the air. The sex in this book is HOT. I’ll never look at honey the same way, either. T.A. must have a thing for mixing food and sex. Not that I am complaining…whew! Just make sure you have a cold drink or fan handy when you read his books!

Garrett's a successful Hollywood actor and openly gay. CJ is a top driver in NASCAR and firmly in the closet. Given the culture of the NASCAR circuit, he knows his career would be ruined if anyone found out he was gay. Add to that, he's going through a divorce.

Garrett needs to do research for an upcoming movie role and ends up working with CJ and his team. CJ is instantly attracted to the gorgeous and confident Garrett, but he does his best to hide it. I loved how understanding Garrett was - he recognized that CJ was hiding his sexuality, and didn't push his attentions on the man, even though he was very attracted to CJ. The 2 men form a friendship, one that ends with a kiss the night before Garrett leaves town.

Fast forward a few months. CJ's ex-wife outed him as gay to the press, and he's fallen into a downward spiral, drinking a lot and now fired by his employers. Garrett finds a drunken CJ at a bar and takes him home. With Garrett, CJ learns to accept himself and learns how great a relationship with a man can be.

Garrett's younger than CJ, but he felt older since he was so sure of himself. CJ felt much younger - innocent and in unknown territory with Garrett. It's all new to him - learning to deal with the realities of his sexuality and having a boyfriend. CJ had some hard choices to make, and not everyone was accepting of his choice, but I was so glad he stayed true to himself. This was a great read - sexy and sweet, with some nice angst, but not too much. It was a great love story!

This is book #2 in a series, and I have to admit I haven't read the 1st book yet (Out of Bounds). Kasey (Garrett's twin) and Gram from book#1 are in this book, but with the way High Line was written, I didn't feel as if I was missing a ton of stuff. I really liked Kasey and Gram, so I'll be reading Out of Bounds soon.

Garrett Johnson, actor and one of Hollywood’s beautiful people, is at the top of his game in the industry. When his latest movie takes him to new high, he owes his role to CJ Lamont, race car driver extraordinaire, the guy who made sure he knew a bolt from a plug and drift from a shift for his latest role.

The only dark cloud on Garret's horizon is his ex-lover. After putting up with all that he could bear he shakes him loose - but not without repercussions to his confidence and his sense of trust. One thing that has not been rocked by the betrayal is his sense of fair play – so when he meets CJ Lamont again in the most unlikely of places under the most degrading circumstances, he knows he has to step up and protect this man, who has come to mean so much to him in the short time they were together.

CJ Lamont, top of the racing world and husband, has hit rock bottom after his world literally explodes around him when his wife reveals the one secret he has kept from everyone even himself.

With nowhere to go and no one to rein him in, he starts on a self destructive path. About to sink into the final act of depravity – he is saved – from himself, by the last person he expects to see. However, Garrett saving him comes with not only a place to keep his head low but to also do a lot of soul searching, dust himself off and start life again. In the clear light of day however the problems becomes all the more clearer and look all the more insurmountable for him to deal with.

Both men have their own battles to fight and their own bridges to cross. As much as there is an attraction between the two that cannot be denied – Garrett is not willing to settle for anything less and CJ is just finding his voice to know he can have more. With family, team, ex’s and the media like a revolving circus around them – what chance do these two have of being together when one shines brighter than anything the other has known and the other is at a crossroads – that he’s not sure he’s ready to cross?

When I finished T.A. Chase first book in THE LOVE OF SPORT series - BOUND BY LOVE, I was left with a little bit of a let down as there was so much unresolved issues and my anticipation went fever pitch as the date of release for HIGH LINE came closer and closer.

After reading this book, and as with all good books for me, I had to take a day or two to really access the impact of this book – it was that good.

Garrett is tired of the drama that his life has become lately and just wants to get it back on track; however not wanting to let the situation get the better of him, he is not prepared to give up on togetherness and love, as this is possible, after all he just has to look at his brother to know that true love exists.

When CJ drops into Garrett’s life, he is willing to help him as much as he can, but with the attraction that has always been there between the two making a comeback, there is little they can do to deny themselves. One thing Garrett is sure of however - he is not willing to hide who he is, even for the man he loves.

HIGH LINE is not only brilliantly written, but is a perfect follow up to T.A. Chase’s OUT OF BOUND. The story line is a direct follow-up to the first book, love scenes are not vanilla and both men put up a good showing when it comes to expressing how deeply they care for each other. Supporting casts are vital to the plot and unresolved issues from book one are dealt with. As with all good books T.A. Chase has given us a whole new set of conflict and angst that we just have to wait until the next time to be resolved.

HIGH LINE is most definitely one to make space for on your book shelf.

Book 2 in the Love of Sports series features movie star Garrett Johnson and race car driver CJ Lamont. Garrett is spending a month learning to drive a race car for a new movie role and CJ is his instructor.

Both men are dealing with failing relationships when they first meet. Garrett's lover of three years has gotten involved with drugs and has been cheating and CJ's eight year marriage is falling apart. Totally in the closet, CJ has buried his desires for other men throughout his marriage but has been unable to make it work. Now however he is having a hard time hiding his growing attraction to Garrett and the night before Garrett leaves they share a kiss but nothing else as CJ isn't yet ready to deal with his sexuality. Their time together ends and each man must get back to their own life, problems and all.

After their divorce, CJ's bitter ex-wife outs him to the world. Unable to deal with what's happening in his life he takes off and ends up across the country in Los Angeles. Drunk in a nightclub one night CJ is found by Garrett barely conscious. Garrett takes him home and along with his brother Kasey and Kasey's lover Gram they try to help CJ rebuild his life.

What follows is the story of two men who've both been hurt trying to overcome their past in order to build a future together. This was a very nice book, if a little angsty in parts. Garrett and CJ are wonderfully written characters and it was a refreshing change to see the relationship build slowly instead of them jumping straight into bed, although when they do get in bed they are smoking hot together. The secondary characters, a lot of them from the first book, were once again a great addition to the story. The book flowed along very well and overall was quite enjoyable. Another winner from TA Chase.

I really loved this book: i felt the connection bettween Garrett and CJ right at the beginning and their relationship grew stronger every page.

Garrett seems to be a rock, like to take care of people he loves but we feel that he is vulnerable inside.
CJ is kind and romantic, and i liked the way he rely on Garrett sometimes but know that he has to deal with his problems alone.

They are honest with themselves and i was captivated by the way both of them believed in each other.

I enjoyed a lot reading this story and i did not want it to end.

I liked this second be in the series better, Garrett meets CJ while learning about race car driving for an upcoming role.
They meet again a year later when CJ has hit rock bottom in his career and personal life.
They both have baggage, but despite everything it wasn't an angst fest and drama heavy, and as opposed to the first book, the sex was in moderation to the story.

I always liked T.A. Chase's work, I believe he is one of the first authors I read, but this last book probably is one of my favorite; the first impression I have soon after ending it, is of a very easy and well plotted book, once that despite being almost 200 pages long took me only a night to read since I was eager to know what was happening.

The second impression is the play of contrast, that the author uses in two different way: once between the two main characters, Garrett, an Hollywood actor, and C.J., a race driver; from their jobs and from the fact that C.J. was apparently straight and also older than Garrett (even if only for 4 years), you will expected C.J. to be the MAN in the relationship. Yes I know, I'm letting old habit and idea to lead me on, but well, I'm not the only one! Even if you are reading a male on male romance, if you are strong, older, and with a more manly job, you are the MAN. And instead in the relationship, Garrett takes the upper hand: he is the one who shelters and offers a friendly shoulder to C.J. when no one else apparently is willing to do it; and when C.J. is ready to admit that he is gay and wants to come out of the closet, Garrett is more than willing to be his training ship and to teach him everything a good and healthy gay man should know ; and here is when the naughty part of the book is coming, but strangely enough, is not the main aspect of the story, and it's not even so soon in the book, you have to savor it.

The second contrast I notice was in C.J.'s parents, and again my old fashioned idea kicked in to make me having the wrong mind. Usually mothers are more accepting and supporting, they are the ones who try to mediate with their husbands and sons when the truth comes out (pun intended). And even more in this case, where C.J.'s parents are old southern people and his father is a mechanic, not usually a job that allows people to be very open minded (why on earth when we are speaking of car and motor, it seems that women and gays are not enough clever to be involved?). Anyway, I was in for a big surprise when it was C.J.'s father who stood for his son when on the other side his mother kicked him out of house.

This are only two example to prove you that the story, as I said, is very well plotted and carefully crafted in every details. Plus the characters have a good development, enough for the reader to identify himself and try to imagine how it would be for him of he was in their shoes.

Last but not least, I really like as T.A. Chase seems to have done his homework right: the car racing world, even if only hinted, is enough vivid to give the reader the impression to be not only a nice cover for the main character: this is something I noticed before in this author's books, there is often a sport setting (baseball, rodeo, horse jumping and now car racing) and they are always rendered with nice details to help the reader building the world in his mind. So, two are the things, or T.A. Chase is an huge sport fan, or he does well his research work.

Only one regret: I would have liked to read about the Academy Awards night, hope to see it in a third book?

If I hadn't loved the characters so much, this book would have gotten a lower score out of me. I've read other works by this author and been completely impressed but I'm dead tired of TA Chase ending a book on a climax. While it's not as bad as ending on a cliff hanger it is ranking pretty high up there. An Epiloge is a conclusion to letting you know the characters are happy and will have a happy ever after. Don't call it an Epiloge when it's only the next day from where you left off and your ending it while their relationship is still new and they are still struggling. Also on top of that I was not at all happy about the character description. I was in fact yanked out of the book several times because I had to come up with my own ideas of what the characters looked like and it threw me for a loop. We know Garrett is tall, blonde, blue eyed, and voted Peoples most sexiest man alive and you can see where Brad Pitt came into play in my mind. The worse part was the next character is short, dark haired, and a race car driver and God Help me but Tom Cruise got stuck in my head. At the worse possible times in the book Tom would hit Brad for kissing him...

Pretty good book!
I liked seeing more of Kasey and Gram, and both CJ and Garrett are such likeable characters. Slow development of their relationship's nicely to watch :)

I didn't like only one thing - CJ's guilt about Rachel and how he's not mad at her, won't sue her and even agreed to pay alimonies to her, without protest. She destroyed his career and she knew perfectly what she's doing and why? He didn't cheat on her, from what I've seen he respected her and tried to make her happy - as much as he could. If she wasn't satisfied she could easily fill for divorce much earlier and simply part ways with him, while staying civilized and respectful, not revealing their dirty laundry to the press. I really hated her for doing it, since it's the worst kind of betrayal I think - like stabbing in the back. It's not like she was chained to CJ or something.

Also I'd like to see how CJ's situation worked out at the end. The whole acceptance who you really are theme was great, but I wanted to see what'll happen with him in the future - maybe some small glimpse: did he really ultimately parted ways with racing, did he buy a garage as he wanted - something about that.

Enjoyed this story as it made me feel what the two MCs were going through. Loved them both. Garret is out but CA is not and maybe can never be because of his profession.

Just be careful, baby boy, "his mom cautioned him. "CJ seems like a nice man. He's certainly handsome, but he's denied who he is for so long, it might end up being easier for him to run back in the closet."

"I know." Being openly gay was never easy, and for CJ, being gay and doing what he loved might be impossible to reconcile. "I want to help him. More than anything, I want him to be happy."

I liked this one better than the prior book in the series, I think because CJ and Garrett don't really hook up until the second half of the novel, so there's more time spent developing the characters and their relationship before we get to the sexy times. I also appreciated how CJ's career was handled; I won't spoil it, but I think the ending was realistic.

Meh. I was kind of bored. There's nothing wrong with the story, it's just a plot line that has been hashed and re-hashed. There's nothing new here. The characters aren't particularly memorable, nor is any of the action. I skimmed the end.

I only read this one because I likes Garrett from the first book. So of course in this book he turned into a whiny sad sack that annoyed me for half the book. I was just begging for this one to end.

It was a good idea I suppose but the writing was pretty bad. Which, considering the author is T.A. Chase and I’ve read some of their other stuff, I was expecting the bad writing. But there were inconsistencies in the story on top of the bad writing that kept drawing me out of it.

SPOILERS BELOW:

One of the inconsistencies was CJ’s experience with men. When Garrett and CJ meet again, CJ is about to give some dude a drunken blow job in the club. Then, the next day CJ and Garrett kiss and we get this line in the book:

“Garrett was the only man he’d ever kissed. Denying his urges made it hard to get any experience.”

Which when I read that I thought, okay wow, he is a blushing virgin in terms of gay sex so he must’ve been incredibly drunk to have already been on his knees for a man in the club when Garrett saw him…

But then later in the book we get this line:

“The only encounters he’d had with men were anonymous pick-ups in bars, rest areas or any place where no one would care who he was or what he did for a living. Once he got married, he’d stayed away all together.”

So… which is it? Has CJ literally never kissed a man before or did he have all these “anonymous hookups” with guys before getting married? Or it could be plausible that he never kissed any of his hookups, but they did other stuff.
We find out later that is not the case when CJ tells Garrett right before they have sex:

“I’ve kissed guys before. Jerked them off and been given blow jobs, but I’ve never fucked a guy or been fucked by one.”

So somehow, CJ has kissed guys before, but Garrett is the only guy he’s ever kissed… 🙄 If you’re going to mention a character’s past sexual experience, be consistent about it please.

Anyway, seems like a small nitpick but it just drew me out of the story and made me not want to keep reading honestly. Hence, the 2 stars.

EDIT:
The following edits to this review were added as I read through the book.

- Garrett refers to CJ’s asshole as a “pink rosette”… so that was quite jarring. 😅

- There’s a sex scene in a hotel where CJ covers Garrett in honey while he’s sleeping. Then when Garrett wakes up, CJ is standing in the doorframe holding the honey for some reason. And then they have sex. Do you know how mad I’d be if my boyfriend covered me in honey while I was asleep? What the actual heck? It was just such a random and unnecessary scene and gave me the ick.

- The new agent CJ hires after his current agent drops him for being gay is soooooo sleezy. When CJ first meets the agent, Garret asks how his third divorce is going and he says “She thinks she has me over a barrel, but I got her to sign a pre-nup and she doesn’t have a leg to stand on.” Immediate ick but I thought, this is the gay friendly agent Kasey uses so I’ll give him a chance. But then we get this:

“Even though you’re the one who cheated?” Garrett settled in one of the chairs with a grin.
“What can I say? I love the ladies.” James grinned.”

So… ew. Then there’s this accepting but unprofessional and explicit line:

“James shook his head. “I don’t understand why you like cock instead of pussy. I don’t have to understand. Who you sleep with doesn’t affect your talent or ability.”

Ew…

- I’ve officially started skipping the sex scenes.

- Incorrect use of the word “insure” instead of “ensure”.

“I dissolved our contract and hired James to insure I don’t get screwed.”

- It ended with them heading to a press conference where CJ will officially announce he’s gay and Garrett will announce his ex was lying when he said he has anger management issues and his ex is actually a drug addict. So… basically just cut off right in what I thought was sort of the climax?

Garrett is an out and proud, up and coming actor. He wants to learn how to drive race cars, so he follows CJ, a professional driver, for a month. CJ is in the midst of a divorce, which he thinks is fair, since he can't fully commit to a woman. He's deeply, deeply in the closet, and gives Garrett a kiss just before he leaves.
Fast forward to a year later, and CJ is outed by his ex. His racing job dries up, and CJ is in a spiral. Garrett happens to see him, and rescues him from an unsavoury character. When he hears what CJ is going through, Garrett offers first his home, and then his family, to CJ. As the two of them get to know one another, feelings develop, but both Garrett and CJ have their own issues that they need to deal with.

Enh. This was a quick read, but not a very good one. I just didn't buy the relationship between Garrett and CJ, and didn't really care what happened to them individually or as a couple.

2.5, I guess.

This story was pretty enjoyable, for the most part--right up until the end. Then it just kind of fell flat. There wasn't a resolution or conclusion. I just turned the page and found myself at an Epilogue.

Epilogue? Where's the end of the story?

Also, I get the distinct impression that the author was bored while she was writing it. The characters were not really distinct from one another, and their personalities and diction just kind of bled together.

Entertaining story, follows with Out of Bounds (Garrett is Kasey's twin). Garrett and CJ make a brief appearance in Tabloid Star (where Garrett makes a short comment/update on Kasey). I love it when characters keep showing up in other books - keeps them alive and makes me want to re-read their books.

High Line is book two of the Love of Sports series. This book partially explores the love life of Garrett Johnson—the movie star twin brother of all-star basketball player Kasey Johnson from the first book.

In High Line, Garrett is getting hands on training as a race car driver for research for his next movie. CJ Lamont, the best driver on the NASCAR circuit, is the man providing the training. Sparks fly as sexual attraction between the two starts immediately. But there’s a problem, CJ’s not gay . . . or at least that’s how he lives in the public eye.

Life spirals out of control for CJ after his bitter wife publically outs him, but Garrett, dealing with his ex’s self-destructive overindulgences, comes to CJ’s rescue. As their bond becomes stronger, CJ has to choose between love and career. As much as I enjoy reading about hottie Garrett Johnson, High Line is the story of CJ’s journey.

Since reading book one of the series, I fell in love with Garrett and upon finishing book two I became obsessed with him. He definitely made the story for me even though CJ shared the spotlight. Their relationship starts out slow, very slow with a few glances and flirts here and there. Then it builds up to a few touches and a kisses. With the first book, I complained about the lack of tension between characters but, my gosh, it took over 50 percent of the book to finally get to some loving for these two.

It’s very similar to the first book in that the messages speaks loud and clear to the reader, “Gay men love sports and are people too. Stop the hate!” The main characters of each book deal with prejudices, ruined careers, double lives, people they work with trying to shame them and pure hate.

It also parallels with the lovemaking styles. Now I know Garrett and Kasey are twins but come on. Each couple uses the same positions, the same techniques, and they both use melted liquid to lick off of their lovers in a hotel room. In both books one of the lovers is surprised by a fancy dinner in a hotel room, and the most annoying . . . not everyone falls asleep immediately after climaxing, every SINGLE time.

Even though there are a few annoying similarities between both books, this is not a negative review, to say the least. My obsession with the gorgeous Garrett Johnson, the overall message of the story, and T. A. Chase’s incredible, descriptive and emotional writing urges me to give High Line 5 stars!

High Line is the sequel to Out of Bounds and set, for the most part, on a race track and the mechanics and sponsors rooms around it. There are also some pretty extraordinary houses described within, but with two stars, one on the race track and the other on the 'silver screen', that was only to be expected.

When Garrett takes time out of his busy schedule to spend three months at a race track, he is doing so with a mind to building a character in his head. After all, Garrett is a world famous actor and to stay on top, he needs to portray his character properly. What Garrett doesn't sign on for is an in-the-closet race car driver who makes his heart race faster than the cars he is supposed to be learning to drive. After reading about his most recent and ugly break-up, there was beauty in the emotion between Garrett and CJ, but I still found myself worrying about both men and their reasons for coming together right then.

CJ is in the middle of his own ugly moment, divorcing his suspicious wife who could ruin his driving career with one slanderous comment. Driving with a homophobic team, I felt for CJ as he relates to Garrett and tries to find himself in the middle of a completely unsupportive team both personally and professionally. CJ doesn't come across as an especially strong character, and when the truth is revealed, Garrett's true strengths become clear.

For a while there, I wasn't sure if these two were even the focus of the story and if they would end up together, but T.A. simply writes her characters well, knowing that Garrett would have more empathy for CJ as a man than to push an involvement CJ wasn't yet ready for. A novel written in a contemporary style, I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Out of Bounds, or who likes drama, comedy or sports in their stories. Nx

Second in a series featuring those hot, 6'5" blond god twins Kasey and Garret Johnson, this one centers on rapidly rising movie star, openly gay Garrett. He begins this tale on the road in Charlotte, North Carolina where he is to be tutored in the art of NASCAR driving (for an upcoming role) by CJ Lamont, one of the leading riders on the circuit, a beautiful and privately tortured soul who is struggling with his marriage because of his hidden secret--he's gay. Like its predecessor Out of Bounds, this one is far more believable in 2014 than it might have been when first published in 2009, but it is nonetheless an extraordinarily researched and brilliantly developed love story with holdover characters from the first book playing crucial roles. This one gets into gear smoothly, builds energy around every wild turn, and finishes with a tremendous burst of speed so that we can all relax when the gang crosses the finish line.

4 Stars. I read the first book and it was just okay, typically I'd stop there, but Garrett was one of the people I really enjoyed in Out of Bounds, so I wanted to read his story and I'm glad I did. It was much better, a much more developed and well rounded read. The first book is almost all sex and not a ton of substance. There's much more going on here. In truth, you almost see more development of Kasey and Gram's relationship here than in the first book. Anyway, really enjoyed both lead characters, but particularly loved Garrett. Love the connection and chemistry between Garrett and CJ and loved the visit to the parents house for a different dynamic for all of them. Only thing I didn't get was why it was never mentioned that maybe CJ would be interested in stunt driving in Hollywood. But that was a minor issue. A very enjoyable read, look forward to checking out other books from this author now.

A nice story, one I've owned forever but didn't get around to reading until now. I couldn't believe what a difference the years have made for gay men between when this was written and today's world. It was amazing to read this story and realize how many athletes were still deep in the closet, as well as to view marriage between men the way it was then.

CJ Lamont, race car driver, falls for Hollywood hunk, Garrett Johnson, out and proud twin brother of Kasey Johnson (Out of Bounds) who has just come out as gay. Kasey is a pro basketball player and has fallen in love with his own Prince Charming.

The romance between CJ and Garrett is sweet and a slow build but explosive once it heats up. It was great to see the previous story's characters as well.

2nd book in the Love of Sports series, this book focuses on Garrett & C.J. and reunites us with Kasey and Gram from the first book. There is nothing remarkable about these books. Neither bad nor good...they are average, quick reads that are fairly predictable. Each book seems to be setting up the next in the series without being very obvious about it but his one ended so abruptly I was totally caught off guard when I got to the end. So many things were left up in the air that it felt unfinished. I'll read the next book because I do like the characters and care enough about them to want to know how things work out for all of them.

I actually really liked this story - it has much more depth than Book 1 Out of Bounds (Love of Sports, #1) by T.A. Chase .

There are some genuinely nasty characters here (Rich, CJ's ex-wife etc) and they offset the good folks like …Garrett, Mike etc.

I loved that CJ's was so inexperienced and awkward, and that Garrett was so much more experienced but was sensitivity to CJ's insecurities. The patience with which the Hollywood superstar (Garrett) supported CJ in adjusting to being out of the closet was very touching.,

All in all I liked this story better than the first.
Mainly because the story wasn't one big sex scene.

One thing I noticed were a few unlogical details.

for example:
the first time they met and kissed(one year prior to the main plot) the readers gets the information that CJ never has kissed a man before Garrett.
But then, a year later, we learn that CJ did kiss other man (and did other things with them) before his marriage.

Or.. how can Garrett still be 23 a year after the first meeting?

I was a little confused.

Whilst this is Garrett and CJ's story, we also see quite a bit of Gram and Kasey.
Not the sex fest that book 1 was, this felt tighter. CJ and Garrett had an instant attraction but apart from one kiss, did not act on it until they met again a year later - with much water under the bridge!
There was lots going on with outings, arguements, sackings, confrontations.
At times I thought it was tight but at others the story seemed a bit directionless but overall I enjoyed this conclusion to the Johnson brothers story.

This was an excellent continuation to the series. I really liked Garrett in the first book so it was nice to get to know him in this book. And CJ was an absolute sweetheart. CJ helped him to see what a truly wonderful person was supposed to be like. They made great chemistry together. CJ had a lot to deal with in the homophoic world of racing but he was able to make it work out in the end. It had a sweet HEA.

4 stars for the feel-good factor.

It was great to see these two MCs find their place in the world - or at least, for CJ to work it out; Garrett pretty much had it worked out, but he now has a stable partner with whom to share it all. *sigh*

Even a short follow up story on this group would be great - I'd love to hear CJ being able to thumb his nose at Morik, the NASCAR owner and that Kasey is over-the-top successful :)
