The Serrulata Saga #3

Yours and Mine: A Serrulata Saga Romance Novella

Rate this book
She told a lie. He confirmed it. Now they’re secretly betrothed against their families’ wishes…

Lady Octavia Dorchester is the most desired young lady in the Realm. Now that she has twenty years behind her, society has deemed her ready to marry. Although she’s not enthusiastic, she promises to act like a proper lady and look for a good husband—just like her powerful father Lord Roman Dorchester wants.

Lord Gerald Verte has been painfully shy his entire life. He’s never been comfortable in society and lives in the shadow of his older brother, the imposing Lord Tristian Verte. Despite his desires to remain indoors and away from people, he promises his older brother that he won’t shame the family name, no matter how much his anxiety threatens to overwhelm him.

After sharing a dance at a ball held in Octavia’s honor, both she and Gerald know what no one else believes—it’s love at first sight.

When their respective family members object to the match, Octavia lies about their betrothal and Gerald corroborates her story. Raising the ire of both Lords Dorchester and Verte, Octavia and Gerald are torn apart and kept from one another until tragedy strikes.

This high-heat romance with a guaranteed happily-ever-after is a prequel to Gathering of the Four: Book One of the Serrulata Saga but can be read as a standalone.

I absolutely adored YOURS AND MINE, a steamy forbidden romance novella where Octavia Dorchester, from an established and respected family, falls for Gerald Verte, who suffers from painful social anxiety. Octavia’s sister is recently engaged, and Gerald’s brother is Tristan Verte, the head of their house. The sibling dynamics were interesting to read. Octavia and Gerald’s chemistry was off the charts. This had a lovely Bridgerton feel, full of balls and formal social events, and lovers who just want to be together despite society’s rules. Both Octavia and Gerald have intense feelings for one another and as they find themselves unable to stay apart, their steamy scenes are hot and very romantic. I loved watching their love story unfold and look forward to reading more in this world!

I haven’t read any other books in the Serrulata Saga but after reading Yours and Mine I will definitely be buying the rest of the series.

This was a lovely standalone novella that focused on anxiety, romance, and choosing your own fate.

I enjoyed both Lady Octavia and Lord Gerald as characters. Even for such a short story they both felt well fleshed out and I was rooting for the two of them to get together!

Overall this was a great story and I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Cute, Quick Read

Perhaps I’m missing some context because this is a series and I’ve only read this book as a standalone. Author said it can be read as such. Though it was an enjoyable read, I do feel as though I missed out on some of the backstory. Particularly those speaking to the world building and systems.

Though a short read, I did quite like the leads. Octavia and Gerald. They worked well together and were both oddities in a world that prioritised traditional roles (women having no agency over their bodies or choices).

I would have liked to see a more realistic development of Gerald’s anxiety. He somewhat flipped a switch and the change was jarring. However jarring, I do understand it was a novella and author only had so many pages and could not allot more time to that development. In a similar fashion, Selma and her husband- that came out of nowhere. It was also rather glossed over. Almost a “blink and you miss it” moment.

The MCs victory was a tad anticlimactic. Octavia’s dad simply asked questions, spoke to a servant, then acquiesced??? Underwhelming and out of character for how the lord was portrayed.

Despite these issues, it was a lovely read to break my reading slump and I found it a delightful read. 3.5 stars

This was my first ARC from Booksprout. My opinions are my own.

Sorry, not sorry, but it was the cover that made me tell myself "I need this book". I saw the book on my Twitter feed and despite having hundreds of books that needed to be read, decided THIS needed to be mine as well. I make no secret that a good cover is my weakness, and a beautiful Black woman with an afro wearing an elegant frock being held and cherished by an equally well-attired hero just screams BUY ME NOW.

Those of us who are fans of Still Star Crossed - like me - will probably enjoy this neo-Regency Romance. I'd like to believe the late Eva Rutland - a Black woman who wrote Regencies for Harlequin back in the late 80's/early 90's - would have enjoyed this as well.

Granted, this is only a novella so there's not much world-building here, save that there were world-shattering dystopian disasters and the era this story takes place in is several hundred years into the future. Octavia Dorchester is the younger, somewhat headstrong daughter of one of the most powerful families. Gerald Vert is the bookish younger brother of another powerful clan. His social anxiety and panic attacks are misunderstood by his peers, causing him to be thought of as "defective". Both struggle against the dictates of their class and in a moment of rebellion on Octavia's part, their nascent attraction becomes something more.

While not necessarily insta-love, Octavia and Gerald are determined to ignore all the rules that say they can't. The few sexy scenes are consenting and both communicate their wants, needs and insecurities. Given this is a novella, the ending felt a bit rushed but not unsatisfactory. If anything, it made me want to read more from the author, hoping they'll flesh out this world and its denizens.

I loved this author's debut Gathering of the Four so I was very excited about this novella, taking place in the same world, and this book did not disappoint. The author told the story of a sweet, yet steamy romance between two minor characters from her debut, Octavia and Gerald really jump off the page as characters because they have so much personality. I feel like this book would be just as enjoyable for someone new to the Serrulata Saga as it was for me, having read the first novel. The writing flows so well to create a beautiful story and it was a quick, yet fun read. The pacing is great overall, but the ending does move a little faster than I expected.

I was provided with a free copy of Yours and Mine by the author in exchange for a review.

Yours and Mine by A.E. Bennet is a short, quick, steamy forbidden romance novella. This book was fast-paced, the writing flowed well, and I really enjoyed the characters. Octavia is sassy and wants to be independent. Gerald suffers from anxiety and is a bit shy at times. Their relationship was insta-love and while this isn’t my favorite trope I enjoyed how it played out in this novella. I loved how hard these two fought against their families for their love. They were too cute! I really enjoyed Yours and Mine and I can’t wait to read more from her.

Yours and Mine was such a fun, quick read. I loved our main characters, Gerald and Octavia and was rooting for them from the get go. The glimpses we got into Bennett's larger world of the Realm were enough to intrigue and help someone like me, who is completely unfamiliar with this series, follow along. I can't wait to see what else is in store for this series and I definitely plan on picking up a copy of Bennett's previous novel after so thoroughly enjoying this one.

Yours and Mine by AE Bennett is a tale of romance, but also of respect, bravery, and trust.

First and foremost, I'd like to say that I stepped out of my comfort zone when reading this book. I do not read much romance so not knowing what to expect, it was a delightful surprise.

Yours and Mine takes place in a world that is hinted at but not a distraction from the core romance taking place between Octavia Dorchester and Gerald Verte. The world is built just enough, expounded upon just enough, that it makes me curious of what else there is within the Serrulata Saga. Octavia, a stubborn but proper woman is different and relatable. Her natural curiosity and desire to be respected for more than her gender is admirable and relatable. Her sister Selma is a delight as well. The man who she falls for, Gerald Verte, is kind of a mess at first. Awkward, a social outcast, Gerald endears himself with his respect for Octavia. It's clear that he is uncomfortable in social situations and is sort of stuck beneath his older brother's well-meaning thumb.

The trouble begins when Octavia spins a yarn that has her sworn to Gerald for marriage- something that everyone disapproves of. But the two are so bold and so unique it seems that they belong together. You can't help but cheer them on and hope that Gerald will find bravery and confidence while Octavia will find the freedom she so longs for. Gerald, for me, represented that freedom. He allowed Octavia to be herself and embrace all that she was instead of focusing on what she was expected to be as a Dorchester. Octavia was the strength and courage that Gerald needed to take charge of his life and find confidence in who he was.

The quote "I am yours and you are mine" is repeated many times through the book and it really hit me, especially closer to the end of the novella.

The trust and communication the two share even in their most intimate and vulnerable moments is incredibly refreshing. In a world where relationship dynamics are fraught with lack of communication and unrealistic reactions, Yours and Mine is a breath of air where the characters really feel human. I related to Octavia almost immediately even though she's a wealthy upper-class lady. I related to Gerald too.

Overall, I would recommend anyone looking for a good romance!

I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this book, I imagined some sort of historical romance with more inclusivity. Instead, it is somehow set in the future over three centuries after this place was set up.

Pros:

The snippets of world building were absolutely fascinating and made me want to know more about how the world the characters are in came to be. I want to know about the races, especially about those who had magic of course!

It was nice to see anxiety and potentially agoraphobia addressed in a story as troubling a male character. Usually I only see it in females and it’s important for people to realize it can happen to men and doesn’t take away their manhood and make them less. Clearly that isn’t shown in the society but I think it’s good that the author showed that support helps more than ridicule.

Cons:

Why this is a new world and in the future, women’s rights are fully gone. Every woman is owned first by her father then by her husband. They mention that some men are cruel and it is accepted. Moreover, racism against the magic people is completely accepted and they are considered lower than peasants. The servants/peasants are expected to know their place and stay in it. All of these things have been fought and/or are currently being fought against in our own world so it seems backwards that anyone would go forth and build a society where these rules are accepted and enforced. I don’t know if it was a commentary on how easy it is to go back to bad things but it is disgusting and I found it very frustrating while reading.

I struggled a little with the writing style. It seemed tediously repetitive that every paragraph seemed to start with a character name or dialogue often when only two characters were in the scene.

I absolutely loved A.E. Bennett's debut novel, GATHERING OF THE FOUR, so when I saw she was offering advance copies of this companion novella, I jumped on it!
First, disclaimer: I received this free ARC via Booksprout in exchange for an honest review, and this in no way affects my opinion.

YOURS AND MINE is the sweet, steamy backstory of two supporting characters in Bennett's main series, The Serrulata Saga. I loved reading Octavia and Gerald's history from both their points of view, and Bennett makes it easy to root for both of them as they resist their families in order to be together. Bennett's characters are, as always, authentic and unique and jump straight off the page. The world of the Realm continues to intrigue me, and there's just enough details sprinkled throughout this novella that someone unfamiliar with the series could still enjoy it.
I did think that the story wrapped up a little too quick; I found myself wondering if I'd skipped a page by accident between Gerald standing up to Lord Dorchester and the following chapter which jumps ahead 6 months. But that's honestly such a minor thing; overall, this novella is a positively delightful read.

First off, I want to say the cover is stunning. I was drawn to it and wanted to read more.

I haven't read anything by this author before but I enjoyed this story. The writing is simple but flowing, and the pacing was great for a novella. However, the ending felt a little rushed to me and I was also confused by some of the characters' motivations. Despite this, I loved how consent was an important factor in the spicier scenes and I also appreciated how the topic of social anxiety was handled throughout the story.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a quick romance with some heat.

I really enjoyed this. Honestly, I’m always a little disappointed when an author has a chance to recreate society after some global devastation and chooses to recreate strict, oppressive gender hierarchies instead of equality. It says so much about humans that we’d rubber band back toward ignorance instead of widening our mindset. But Bennett does well with a heroine who has very forward thinking and rebellious attitudes. (Though one is left wondering where they came from if no one around her shares the ideals.)

But I adored Octavia. She saw what she wanted and went for it, societal opinions be damned. The ‘love’ was pretty instant though. And Gerald was just SO marvelously awkward and noble. I think it would be impossible not to adore the most cinnamony cinnamon roll to ever be written.

This is a novella—only 117 pages. So, it lacks world-building. Magic is mentioned, for example, that plays no roll in the story. One assumes it is relevant in the next book though. All in all, I finished this pleased and will happily read another Bennett book.

Trigger Warnings: Explicit Language, Strong Adult Situations, Anxiety Issues
Thank you to Travelling Page Tours and AE Bennett for this complimentary Paperback Copy to review for them for the book tour this month!!

This was my first time reading a book by AE before so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i enjoyed this one very much and reminded me alot of other Romance Novels ive read before but with a different storyline.

The Characters were very interesting and enjoyable to read about. I loved the storyline about the 2 families histories with each other i thought that made the book more interesting.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in The Realm while reading. I would of loved to seen the country and Time Era mentioned more often.

Chapters 3-8 were VERY Discriptive about Intimacy so if you are going to read this book make sure you are at least 21 years of age. I loved the plot twist that happened in Chapter 6 cause i did not expect that to happen and i think is why i ended up rating it 5 Stars!!

Overall a Phenomenal Romance Novella by AE Bennett!! Can't wait to read Book 1 in this series very soon!!

Lady Octavia wants what she wants and she wants Lord Gerald, the least interesting gentleman among many wealthy and eligible suitors. Why? Because eligible doesn't make for desirable, and Lord Gerald has one thing the others don't: actual genteel manners and an appreciation for equity in a relationship. Problem is, neither family wants this match, and Lady Octavia and Lord Gerald are flirting with disaster just by refusing to give it up.

This is a light, fun romance novella set in Bennett's Serrulata world where one day soon these dynasties are going to be more concerned with the fate of the world as they know it and much less so with ball gowns and the state of Gerald's tie.

The stakes are low, especially if you've read the first novel of this series, but this is still an entertaining bit of backstory. And while there's mention of the Xanthi, don't expect any magic action. Instead you'll find double servings of spice with everything that is sweet within these pages.

Yours and Mine by A.E. Bennett is a quick and enjoyable read. Short, and with a guaranteed happy ending, this novella is nice and easy to get through if you’re looking for a story to keep you company for an afternoon.

Or two lead characters have a serious case of Instalove. Bordering on a tad too insta, but their romance speed fit in well with the overall story.

Octavia is a woman who wants to be independent in a society that allows no such freedoms to women. Gerald is a man who thinks women deserve to be treated better and deserve more. They match well together.

There are some fairly strong themes of a society that I wouldn’t be too keen to live in, with the way women have no power or rights, and references such as to ‘lowly’ servants. It looks like these will be themes carried into future books in the series.

Was Yours and Mine set in an alternate world, or just a slightly different version of a historical time? I’m not really sure. Descriptions of the creation of the Realm seemed to be setting up for something, but whether the story will go down a paranormal path in later installments or not, I really can’t tell.

And then there’s the Xanthi. They might be healers and they might have powers, but again, I really couldn’t be sure. The references to them were so random and infrequent that I didn’t really understand why they were there.

I did find these questions rather frustrating at times, but fortunately they were few and far between. So much so that they really didn’t either interrupt the story or even matter to the story.

Something to be aware of with this story is that it has quite a strong theme of a character with anxiety, who suffers multiple panic attacks throughout the story. The references are frequent.

I did enjoy Yours and Mine, and for a short story, I thought A.E. Bennett did well with establishing the characters individual personalities.

‘Yours and mine’ is a Serrulata saga romance novella, a prequel to ‘Gathering of the four’, book one in the saga. It can be read as a standalone as well.
In only 136 pages, this novella not only tells a high-heat romance forbidden love story, but also sets a world and environment for this series.

A young and beautiful princess and painfully shy lord who isn’t popular at any gathering, go against their duties and all wishes of their families. Without even really knowing each other, they get wrapped up in a lie together and he has her back.

Lady Octavia Dorchester is a desired lady, there’s a ball held in her honor and she’s ready to marry. Lord Gerald Verte doesn’t like social gatherings and lives in the shadow of his successful brother and has to become more social and step out of the shadows. This unlikely couple is a match no one but them agree with.

‘Am I really going to break their hearts by being true to my own?’

This story sets the time and atmosphere really well and describes surroundings in a way you can imagine being there. You can also feel the suppressing atmosphere at social gatherings. It reads smoothly and I enjoyed this story. It’s tense, interesting and at times high-heat. I loved the setting and am curious to ‘Gathering of the four’. A.E. Bennet has a lot of stories planned and I would recommend getting to know her work.

AE. Bennet’s writing style is good. And after reading Gathering of the Four, it’s nice to know Octavia and Gerald’s story. It also explains her betrayal of Gerald’s family from book 1. I was committed to the story quickly because I knew the characters and wanted to know their back story. The storyline was good. It had elements of frustration, sadness, anger, heartbreak, defiance and men acting like tools.

The world that the author created is not explored much in this novella but can be found in Gathering of the Four. I have questions about it because it seems that after governments fell, feminism also fell and slavery came back. Not a world that I would do well in. Most of the men in the story, except Gerald, would have disappeared quietly not long after.

The characters were well written and each one’s personality shines through nicely. I have to admit that being a feminist, these books made my hackles rise quite a bit. I do understand what the author is going for though. The dialogue was easy to follow and I had no problems with it. I enjoyed the love story between Octavia and Gerald but I have to admit that she fell for him very quickly.

I would recommend this novella to anyone that has read Gathering of the Four. Or anyone that loves romances that are a quick read.

Yours and Mine by A.E. Bennett is a novella that ties into the author’s Serrulata Saga series, which I have not yet read, my introduction to being one of the blog tours I take part in. This steamy novella followed Octavia Dorchester and Gerald Verte as they stumble into a young romance and attempt to reconcile their feelings even though their families want them to have nothing to do with one another. While you walk with the characters through their complicated relationship and enjoy their young love, you are also given bits and pieces of the author's overall world which leaves you wanting to explore further into the Serrulata Saga as a whole. I know I am looking forward to picking up more by A.E. Bennett.
Now, as discussed above, this is a steamy romance. There is sex in this novella and some very blunt wording when it comes to the male anatomy. So if you are uncomfortable with reading sex scenes or the use of rougher language, even though it only happens once, I suggest you avoid this romantic tale. However, for anyone else, I strongly suggest you pick this up, particularly if you are a fan of fantasy.

The author starts off with a warning. It’s something to be mindful of before continuing.

Octavia seems to want something different for herself. Gerald doesn’t like to disappoint. Their world seems so backward when it comes to how certain people are treated, as if they are second-class citizens. This is where the past and the future blend into something new.

One thing I enjoyed was how Octavia has empathy for someone who seems to have issues when out in public. But at the same time, I really wanted to give someone a swift kick. This shows how well the author’s writing is when a reader wants to get personally involved. Something else the author did was show how history can repeat itself when it comes to how we treat each other.

I would say that I was happy with the ending, but I would be lying. I was left wanting to know about Octavia and Gerald’s story after – did Gerald get what he wanted? Did his hope come true? Now I’m curious as to what the rest of this series has in store for the reader.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Take Bridgerton and move it to a futuristic time where men and women dress in clothes of the past, ride in carriages, have rules of hierarchy and servitude and you get Yours and Mine. This is a lovely story of the workings of society where women have a coming out season and the young men chose a wife. There is a higher vs lower among the aristocracy and young ladies must chose accordingly based on birth order. Yet with all the rules of society Gerald and Octavia are kindred spirits. It is almost love at first sight for both of them, more so it is an understanding of their issues dealing with the requirements of society. Gerald is considered to have mental issues not making him a good candidate for most of the families in his society. What he has is anxiety and shyness issues. Octavia understands and relates to him. They are a cute couple who overcomes obstacles that would keep them apart. A good read.

This was a fun novella to read. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I’m definitely interested in reading more by A. E. Bennett

LIKES:
1) the writing style… I couldn’t tell if we were in regency era or the future. I know that sounds weird, but it was written in this old school way but threw in words like Realms and Founders. It talked about how greed destroyed the earth and these people had to recreate everything. It was really interesting
2) STEAMY OPEN DOOR ROMANCE SCENES 🥵🥵🥵
3) interracial couple. And it’s not a big deal in this world. I loved that!
4) the Dorchester’s; an affluent Black family. So powerful and respected. I just loved them!
5) men don’t always have to be the tough guy or the cool guy to get the girl! Our boys need to hear that!

DISLIKES:
1) damnation was used a lot.
That’s all… that’s the only thing I didn’t enjoy 🤣

Thanks to The Travelling Pages Tours and A. E. Bennett for the opportunity of being on the blog tour! So much fun!

Another excellent book by A.E Bennett! It was a joy to spend more time with Octavia and Gerald - two of my favourite characters from the main Serrulata Saga series - and get more of a glimpse into their early relationship. I can never get enough of Gerald Verte. A kind, considerate gentleman who rails against society’s expectations despite being an outcast himself, who treats his partner like a goddess, and who’s a dynamo in bed - what could be better?

I love the world that Bennett has created with these books, and being back in The Realm felt like slipping on a favourite pair of shoes again. I could read a hundred stories in this setting.

My only criticism is that I wish the time skip towards the end was shorter so I could see more of what happened during that time, as it felt a bit too quick for me, but that might just be me being greedy for more Gerald and Octavia!

Thank you so much to @aebennettwrites and @rmwbooks for a copy of this great novella to read and review!

I loved this novella! I’ve been obsessed with Bridgerton and this reminded me of that with fantasy also!

I loved the story line and how Octavia loved Gerald despite him being shy and having anxiety, which made society peg him as not right and odd. Gerald found the strength to stand up for himself through his love for Octavia and that was truly a pleasure to read!

I only took off half a point because I’m not huge on insta love, and I wished that was a little more details between the big scenes at the end, however I do understand it’s a novella and only so much can be written in such a short story.

Overall I really loved this and would love to pick up more from @aebennettwrites 🤩

I received an eCopy of Yours and Mine via Xpresso book tours. My review is my own opinions.

Yours and Mine is a short romance novella. The main character Octavia Dorchester is of an up standing home and is due to be married off - when her father finds her the right suiter.
However Octavia has her sights set on Gerald.
This novella is a sweet in the sense that the two lovers want to follow their hearts but based in the world where woman have no say over who they marry it becomes a complicated story.
If I'm being absolutely honest I find it hard to review this novella as although I enjoyed it, it didn't really have much of a storyline to go with the plot. The sex scenes were written well with enough spice to entice the reader, the descriptions of Octavia's world were compelling but I felt like I may have missed something along the way.

When you come from a Royal household there are certain expectations around who you will marry, how many servants you shall have, the size of home you will own, etc but when you find someone you actually love then can love overcome the social expectations or will it be too little?

This book is based around a world where a young lady has reached the age where marriage is not just on the horizon but now expected and so come the awkward social events, family discussions and arguments that come with such a major decision but when love enters into the equation we see things get even more tense and wonder if it will be enough to win the day.

This is a really well written book that delivers on the emotional aspect, the sexual tension and also that frustration as it builds.

I first want to thank Travelling Pages Tours and the author for sending me a copy of this novella.

I absolutely loved the first two books of the Serrulata Saga! Octavia was one of my favorite characters and I love that there is a story about her and Gerald’s love! This relationship felt the most authentic and the spice! I couldn’t decide if I would rate this 3 or 4 peppers. It wasn’t overly detailed, but it was 🥵

I really appreciate so much attention to anxiety and panic attacks as well. These things are not often written into stories and it’s so hard for others to understand unless they have gone through it themselves or helped a loved one through it.

I did not want this story to end!

This was a GOOD read and I 100% finished it in one sitting. It was really interesting to read this after reading Gathering of the Four because it took two characters I wasn't super interested in and made me love them. This definitely would be doable as a standalone, but I love the new perspective it gave me on Book One.

The world of the Serrulata Saga is fascinating to me and this novella left me wanting more and so, so ready for Book Two. It was neat to see this world at a different point in time and to meet Gerald and Octavia at this point in their lives. These two are the absolute definition of opposites attract AND love at first sight. Their chemistry is immediate and all of their interactions are so well-written. A really important part of a romance for me is the yearning, and this captures that beautifully.

I definitely recommend Yours and Mine, especially if you're a romance reader who wants to dip their toes into some Sci-Fi/Fantasy. This would be great transition between the two!

Thank you to A.E. Bennett and Travelling Pages Tours for the gifted review copy!

A very intriguing novella with an entire world building in just a few pages (but of course it’s still a sketch and everything will be clearer in the following books!). It’s a sort of mix between an historical and a fantasy book and I liked it very much. I loved the instalove between the shy and anxious Gerald and the stronger and kind Octavia and I loved seeing them together and finding balance in their relationship (and with a very hot reversal of roles in their more intimate moments!). It definitely left me wanting for more of this new world!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Yours and Mine is a forbidden romance novella that felt so well-written. While not an avid romance reader, I enjoyed the story and had fun in the minds of both Octavia and Gerald as they learn about each other and keep at odds with the high-class society around them. I particularly loved one of the first tense scenes between Octavia and a family member: the seriousness really pulled me in and kept me engaged. I'm excited to dip my toes into Gathering of the Four and see how these characters fit in that world.

I like to call this book a regency novel with a twist. The setting is not your typical 1800s London, and has similar core principles as the regency era, but also has more dystopian like elements to it. Although I am fairly new to reading regency era novels (only Bridgerton), I immediately wanted to read this book once I read the synopsis!

It is advertised as a prequel in a series, but can also be read as a standalone. I felt there were some setting/ world building elements that I was missing or confused about probably because I haven’t read the other books. All that being said, I liked this book so much that I will most likely go back and read the other books not only to get full understanding, but also to see what happens with the characters and underlying storylines!

I loved the relationship between Octavia and Gerald l, and how underrated it was to almost everyone else in the book. Call me a sucker for an underdog trope 🤪
