The excuse to have one sex scene after the other was hilarious and I freaking loved it!

We continue the events that follow the first part.
Jessie continues to find out more about what she really is. Bran is great at helping as always. It's an interesting plot line, got to see more of Damien in this one as well as Jessie's sister.
I think I liked part one more, but this one was a good follow-up. Lot's of sexy times.
Interested to see what happens next, but not in a hurry.

It needs a better editor but the plot saves it.
The plot is the only thing keeping me hooked. The story would benefit from a professional editor. I'm pretty sure I'll be reading book 3 when it's released on kindle unlimited.

Where the first "season" of this series had me hook, line & sinker, this "season" wasn't as spectacular for me. Our FMC, Jessie aka his little Mouse, is caught up in some pretty serious old vampire politics, she's got some tasty blood and a very hot, very dangerous vampire who is now more into having her obey him, punishing her, and f*cking her hard -- which luckily his super human f*cking, which would likely destroy those delicate parts on anyone else, for her -- well she likes the pain, the pleasure and feeling *used* by him. Soooo there's that. This "season" is giving me dark mafia vibes. Which is not my cuppa in the spicy department.
ALSO, outta nowhere, he is in LOVE with her. Uhm. Insta-lust was happening. Major possessive stuff, dom stuff... and now he loves her? She's twenty something, and he's hundreds and after 3 days of infiltrating every orifice she has, he's in love. But she needs to know, according to him, he's sadistic... but that doesn't deter her... cause he's SOOO hot. Sigggh.
Soooo. For those of you out there who enjoy the more dark mafia rough, hard stuff, this might float your boat.
QUICK OVERVIEW:
Good story/plot: This one lagged a bit for me... Some reveals happened, but it took a long time to get there.
Good Pace: Things are always moving forward.
POV: 1st person, from the FMC
Good FMC: She was not as much fun as last time, she's still super sassy, and she's all kinds of push the bad vampire's buttons to see what nasty things he's going to do to her, which both terrifies her and excites her. So she's up to that a lot. Also she finds out that there are things about her past she didn't know, so she's reeling from this not knowing... Anchoring to the bad vamp.
Good MMC: He was rougher, colder, meaner this time around and I didn't love it. He's like mean Damon now, and if I continue with the series I hope he comes to be a bit more caring.
Good side characters: This time around there was a bit more with her sister and his brother and she did talk to her bestie. But still not really what I would count as true side characters.

⚡️What kind of spice: Rough, hard, bloody... he insists on f*cking all her holes. She's scared, but also excited... He uses blood as lube... He ties her hands behind her back and makes her deal with a brutal bj, where she's gagging and has tears streaming down her face, then he forces her to swallow... but it's all ok because she likes it.
😊Things I loved: Not so much on this one.
☹️Peeves: Cliffhanger -- but as the author clearly states, this is an ongoing series, originally put out on Kindle Vella, so it's serialized intentionally.

Season 1 was a 5 stars for me...LOVED IT... Overall for Season 2, I'd say this is a 3 stars, but mostly because I found the plot to lag a bit and the spicy parts got a bit dark, mean and rough for my personal tastes.

The books are super short, so this felt sort of like insta love.
Pretty cringey I must say.

Book two picks up right where book one ended. We get more background into how Midnight Harbor functions as a town with the paranormal. I couldn't get enough of the plot and the little details that Nikki included like the court system for each faction. I love getting to see how normal the paranormal are and how integrated they are into the town.
In this book, Jessie continues to find out more about who she really is. Secrets come to the surface and everything Jessie knows is unraveling. We get to see her with her sister, Kelly, who we more insight about. I loved seeing Kelly and Damien together.
Bran continues to be such a fun hero to read about. He's so possessive, which I love, but he continues to only want Jessie to submit if she freely wants to. I love that her submission is totally of her own free will, as it should be, and it amps up their dynamic. We get insight on Bran's feelings for Jessie, which made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
I just love Jessie. She made me laugh quite a few times with her internal thoughts. When she talked about how hot Bran is, I laughed because that's totally me with hot men all the time. Jessie starts to find her voice in this book and you can feel the build up of her coming into her own.
The spice scene towards the end with the car was HOT. If you're part of Nikki's Patreon and have seen the comic book drawing of this scene, then you know its even hotter drawn out 🥵

I’m appreciating the world of ‘Midnight Harbor’ where paranormal creatures are accepted by society and there are such things as blood-infused fruit snacks served at the local vampire bar haha. Also, it made me smile when Bran revealed that in his century long life, he and his brother, Damien, once personally knew Jane Austen, and that she based her Mr. Darcy off of Damien -a fun little Easter egg for Austenites. Just as I anticipated, the story picks up in this book. Looking forward to the next.

ok ok ok so season one was good lol but it had lots of backstory which you'll need for season two. BUT SEASON TWO? shiiiiiittttt lol it was so good! It had like murder? blood play hot hot hot sex 😍 I mean it was all the things. Not to mention you really get to watch them (read them?) Bran & Jessie fall so deep in love by the second. We get more secrets about Jessie that I feel like you can like see coming but lol maybe not and I loved the new dive we get into the Duval background. all around great read, second books are usually such let downs but this? 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 IT WAS ALL THE THINGS! Can't wait for Season Three.

Book 1 (err season 1) left us on a legit cliffhanger - and this ... urm... season (gotta get used to that) picks up right were the first one left off.
I appreciate answers being answered. I like there aren't the usual "tropes". Pretty good amount of smut 😏😏. Another quick read - loved FMC's sass... but ya know I'm unhinged so the OTT MMC still did it for me. It didn't "hook" me as much as the first, but I'll always give leeway to the middle of the beginning of a story (please tell me you get that) simply because ya gotta world build, and with this being on Kindle Vella - it was necessary to build suspense.
Still none of the tropes I can't stand - although I will say - the half truth thing is starting to irritate me a bit... I suppose that was to build the suspense? Meh... either way, each time I said "ok I'm stopping here" I didn't ... so that says something...

Well, the story is progressively getting better but the “action” is very quick. I would definitely like to have certain things explained better, but we shall see what happens!

I finished reading ‘Hot Vampire Next Door: Season Two (Midnight Harbor Book 2),’ by Nikki St. Crowe and the OBSESSION ❤️🔥CONTINUES 👏🏻! (FYI, I’m not affiliated with the author, not in the book biz, reading is just a HOBBY, and I’m just a regular reader that is super passionate 💗 about spreading the word on GREAT books!) There are NO spoilers 🙌🏻!
So this is the second season (book) in a Kindle Vella serial (episodes 19 -33!) If you aren’t familiar with Kindle Vellas, it’s a way for authors to essentially write ✍️ a little bit per week and you can read it via a token system with Kindle! Once the author has enough written where they think the collection would make a book 📕, they can then make it available via Kindle Unlimited (they have to wait 30 days ☀️ after the last episode on Kindle Vella to make the grouping of episodes available on KU, FYI!) And this is what this author did! WHICH IS SO GREAT 🤩! Also with this approach, the books tend to be shorter 🤏🏻… which makes them PERFECT 👌🏻 for a weekend 🌴 read, in my opinion 😁!

Mannnnnn I thought I had it PEGGED 🧠 though plotwise! But I sure DIDN’T 😆! We get some good meat 🥩 to the story in this book and find out A LOT more to the story 😮… which to be fair, after learning more about our girl… I really, really hope 🙏🏻 it goes into a certain Noble 😁 direction! There really aren’t any clues 🔎 of what I’m hoping to happen, to be fair… but if it went the way I want, it would be SO COOL 😎! Hint to what I want!: errr, just WHO 👑 is this girl?!

If you aren’t familiar with Kindle Vellas, it’s a way for authors to essentially write ✍️ a little bit per week and you can read it via a token system with Kindle! Once the author has enough written where they think the collection would make a book 📕, they can then make it available via Kindle Unlimited (they have to wait 30 days ☀️ after the last episode on Kindle Vella to make the grouping of episodes available on KU, FYI!) And this is what this author did! WHICH IS SO GREAT 🤩! Also with this approach, the books tend to be shorter 🤏🏻… which makes them PERFECT 👌🏻 for a weekend 🌴 read, in my opinion 😁!
OK! SO THIS BOOK 👏🏻! I am honestly BLOWN AWAY 🤯! Y’all probably know that I FREAKING LOVED ❤️ the first book! And I am SO HAPPY 🙌🏻 to say that this book is just as AMAZING 🤩! So FANTASTIC 👏🏻!!! So our FMC is just as AWESOME in this book as she was in the first book 🥳! I fell in love 💕 with her IMMEDIATELY in Book 1 and I’m happy 😄 to say that I still LOVE HER 😍. There is… OMG 😱 … YOU GUYS!!! 😂 ... so there is this scene that is HOLY CROW (no pun intended Nikki 😉😅!) … that girl has fricking NO SHAME 😅! NO SHAME, I TELL YOU 😂!!!! All I got to say is DOORWAY 🚪 people 🤣🤣🤣! You will know when you get there 😆! POOR BRAN 😩🤣!!!!! It seriously is so freaking FUNNY 😆 because I’m on chats with girlfriends that LOVE ❤️ this series like I do, and they were all cackling with that keyword before I even got there… so I knew something BIG 🤯 was COMING (😉😉😉) but I had NO IDEA 💡and LMAO 🤣. So yeah, FMC… FREAKING GREAT 😅😅😅. But I’m sure that’s not what (or shall I say WHO 🥵!) you are reading this for (IF YOU READ THE FIRST BOOK, THAT IS!) CUZ I gotta say 😁… OUR boy is HOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTT 🔥🥵🔥. Like, perfect name for a series because our boy is hoT 🔥 with a capital T! He’s just so DELICIOUS 🤤! Since I started reading these books, I’ve seen a lot of LOVE ❤️🔥 for this guy in the book world! I just saw a post the other day where it said… “If you were stuck in an elevator 🛗 with three of your book boyfriends, who would they be?!” And yup 👍🏻 … you can guess our boy 🥵 made the list for a lot of ladies (and shoot, gents I’m sure too 😆!) I gotta say he steps up his game EVEN more in this book 👏🏻... can we say Christian Grey 2.0 🍆🥵🔥?! NOM 😋 NOM 😋 NOM 😋.
But the story!!! You guys, I didn’t NOT expect the story to SURPRISE 😲 me! So if you read the first book, you know this is an action 🤺 packed, super FAST 🏃🏻♀️, FUN 🤩, and HOT 🔥 series! Mannnnnn I thought I had it PEGGED 🧠 though plotwise! But I sure DIDN’T 😆! We get some good meat 🥩 to the story in this book and find out A LOT more to the story 😮… which to be fair, after learning more about our girl… I really, really hope 🙏🏻 it goes into a certain Noble 😁 direction! There really aren’t any clues 🔎 of what I’m hoping to happen, to be fair… but if it went the way I want, it would be SO COOL 😎! Hint to what I want!: errr, just WHO 👑 is this girl?!
And the ENDING 🙌🏻!!! Honestly, I’m laughing 😆 at myself right now because for a pretty short book… I actually have A LOT TO SAY 🤪! (And that just goes to show you how GREAT 👍🏻 of a book it is!!) But I freaking LOVED 🥰 the DRAMA 🎭 of the ending 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Seriously 🥸, I’m thinking True Blood 🩸here! It really has some Sookie Stackhouse 🐊 vibes to me with how these vamps do whatever the HECK they want 👊🏻 and protect what is THEIRS (SOOKIE IS MINE 😍😆.) I LOVE ❤️ it! The JURY 👨⚖️ is in PEOPLE 😉😁... annnnd this book is KILLer 🩸🩸🩸!

Still upset I have to wait for the next one but you know what, the characters and mystery make me want to read the next ones. Honestly, still a bit confused with all the supernatural creatures in the town but I'm invested in Bran and Jessie now.

3.75 - Much better. Needs editing, but story and plot progressed well (except the part I had to skim over). Looking forward to Season Three. IMHO I definitely do not prefer serial writing, even when the chapters/episodes are grouped together. I prefer the whole book, not pieces of one.

November 1, 2023I explored Kindle Vella and this serial was one of the first that I checked out. The writing is great! I used all my free tokens then even bought some more like a chump before I read a review that told me these were available on Kindle (4 books worth, but not all the episodes that are available on Vella). So I picked up where I left off on kindle once out of tokens and while they are still good, the format really lends itself to having teasers at the end of each chapter and not having a lot of depth or traditional build up. While these are impressive, it feels strange rating them the same scale with traditional stories due to structure. So I wholeheartedly recommend IF you are ok with the shorts/serial format and differences that go along with them.
