the search for the missing queen When a powerful warship from the Kingdom of Veronia arrives it Zoltan’s waters, it sends the city into chaos. A prince aboard the vessel believes his long lost mother is hiding somewhere in the area, and he refuses to leave until he finds her. Red and his friends begin the search while handling the problems caused by the imposing warship’s presence but are beset by a group of honorless assassins. Apparently, not everyone is looking forward to the queen’s return...
More of Red (Gideon) and Rit (Rizlet) enjoying their married quiet countryside life. Meanwhile, Ruti (Gideon's sister/ the Hero™) and her party are still questing, but it's becoming more and more obvious to the rest of the part that Ares (asshole mage) has next to no idea what he's doing (and that Gideon was the backbone of the team).
Then there's another flashback, to when the hero's party helped save Rizlet's country from the Demon Lord's army (and when Riz fell in love with Gideon).
Again, the back and forth is a bit awkward and the large amount of waifu thirst traps is a bit off putting. I just wish the story focused more on the quiet countryside life and any drama associated there. Flashbacks would've been better served as extra chapters, I think.
This is another series I started because I watched the anime and could only find the series starting from the second book, but I don't know if I'll keep reading it. The anime was fine to watch to kill time, but reading this reminded me that the second season of the same anime prompted a comment, "Wow, this episode does NOT have a bath scene in it!"
The manga is slightly tamer, at least, from the perspective of it feels like Rit is a little more "stacked" in the anime. I know that's not saying much, but given how her outfit looks like she's deliberately showing off her bra, and a LOT of it, I'm going to take what small victories I can. (Also, Red looks a *little* more distinctive, vs. in the anime he's drawn a LOT more like everyisekaimaleprotagonist... I mean, Parasyte proves that it's POSSIBLE to draw exclusively realistic Asian characters—no odd colours of hair and eyes, etc.—yet have them still be distinguishable!)
...I think I got off track looking up references there.
Accidentally going back to the "bath scene" thing, though... It bothers me a little that Red retired from being a HIGH-RANKING ADVENTURER only recently, yet he's built like this:
I don't know if that's a specifically Asian thing, since Villains Are Destined to Die, Vol. 6 ALSO has a "big, bulky man" who looks not much more muscular than this (though with clothes on, so possibly even less so). I know that there's realistically not much difference in volume between scrawny and fairly muscular, but he's NAKED here—he should have SOME muscle definition! I can't imagine him working as hard as he is and just losing muscle from it like a shut-in!
(Also, where did this go:)
If that tiny line in the first image is supposed to be this same HUGE SCAR, why is it drawn exactly like normal lines following the regular contours/shadows of his body... sorry, I just pay attention when scars are a highlight in a story.
On the whole, it's a nice indulgence for anyone who has ever been tempted to just rage quit their job and just go be happy instead, which may be why I tolerated the stupidity of the anime through its (for now?) conclusion. I don't think I'm more enriched for getting the manga in addition to it, though.
For starters, I really like this series. The anime was great! But at the moment, I'm not sure it's because I've technically seen all this content already or what, but it just feels like it's taking me that little longer to finish a volume? I'm still enjoying it, though.
Very slice of life when not using the flashbacks as plot reveals. Also, by using flashbacks they can skip any boring non-action bits. It's a formula that seems to work ok. Art style is a lot simpler than the anime, keeping things cute and simple.
