It’s difficult to retain your focus – and indeed, your life – when Ghost is trying to strangle and freeze you at the same time. He’s tried it before and failed. Will he succeed this time?

Who is attempting to attack Fearless? Count them.

The native species on Jack’s Planet are protecting Jack and in turn, Jack has undertaken to stop the illegal mining that is polluting the atmosphere and the planet - his planet.

He stopped it, that’s for sure. A major—and angry—GalFed corporation is complaining about the destruction of their multi-billion credit mining operation. They'll complain more when they discover Jack is confiscating the refined ore they've so industriously accumulated.

GalFed Space Navy starships are more than interested. Fortunately, the Black Company’s destroyers provide support for Jack.

An alien starship has been searching for Jack and it too, arrives.

A Blue Cap admiral tries to demote General Van de Huis in an effort to weaken Jack’s protection of the planet.

Space is getting crowded.

Jack’s making enemies faster than he’s making friends. Well, almost.

Jack Foster Senior is surprised when an old acquaintance arrives on another starship. She’s responsible for classifying the intelligent species as non-intelligent, opening the planet up to predators. Sparks fly.

Jack and his retinue from his planet are summoned to Bester II to present his case for ownership of Jack’s Planet. It’s the Blue Caps against Jack Foster.

I’m really not sure why I keep reading these books, but there are aspects I quite enjoy. There were too many meetings and discussions in this book and sometimes things happen that are totally illogical and should not have occurred.
Also I think the author has ‘over egged the pudding’ with some of the developments. Jack and his allies are really becoming too powerful with their weapon systems and mental abilities.
However I may have given three stars until the final few pages, which were so contrived as to be ridiculously implausible.

JACK'S PLANET

Another eagerly awaited return for Jack Foster, continuing his escapades in and around his planet made all the more exciting by his finding different species hitherto lost in the annals of time. Jack along with Jenny and his Grandfather ensure that the action is non stop. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next two books and I got one cannot wait.
Well recommended as long as you start at the beginning!!!

These books are their own thing, and it reminds me of an older style of SF, one the author himself is definitely old enough to remember too.

A lot of (repetitive) talking, an inordinate number of meetings in the narrative and general lack of the fantastic prevent these books from getting that 5th star. I refuse to penalize the books more than that, as if I keep reading them there has to be some reason. The lack of forward progress in this one made me question what that is exactly, but the cliffhanger endings manage to keep me on the hook.

It's a bit morbid, but I also keep reading them as the author is 83 and not well, so I'm impressed that he can keep pushing books out. I never know when a book may be his last, so I'll overlook some things I'd normally complain more about. In any event, if you made it through three of these you have a fair bit invested and a good idea what you have here.

Fun

Book 4 starts from exactly where book 3 ends, as have all the other books. In reality it's one continuous story, that could be one very big book
Previous reviews have complained about the number of meetings Jack has to attend and the resultant slowing down of the story. Whilst what they say is true, Book 4 needs to be like this. So much is now about how the rest of the Galaxy interacts with Jacks World. It's mainly political action, rather than physical
My only complaint is, the book ends rather suddenly, didn't see that as an obvious point to stop on, but I guess that means you have to get book 5
Overall the series is a fun read. It won't win any prizes, but it is highly entertaining and humerus

Book 4....

I cannot think of anything I disliked. Maybe some readers new to syfy would be put off by the technology in use in this series, or the varied life forms presented. I find all this to be interesting... after a lifetime of being emersed in this genera I find I am intrigued. Guess I started reading syfy at around age 10 and I'm now 82. That's a whole whell of a lot of books. Now on to the next in this series.

Another great read !

Such a blast to read from front to back ad always !

The Author notes he's considering weighting 3 spin off books of this series already and sign me up to get mine right now !

What's not to like about this series !

It pulls you in right from the beginning and it's hard to put down to eat sleep and so on !

Highly recommend meeting these characters in this series !

Happy reading !

Another Winner

I'm addicted this series isn't perfect bit it is really great. Some of the character arch's could have been handled better and some alien tactics and procedures felt hand waved, its still an outstanding series. The last event is book was weak and felt forced but the story has move along. Even with the complaints, I'm up way past my bed time, starting the next book....

This has gone back to its roots.

It has that same vibe I got from book one, that is what makes me pick up the series. I could do without the cliffhangers, but that is a purely personal opinion. I grew up with 80's soap operas, I have had my fill of cliffhangers. That said, I am very happy with the tone and direction the story is taking.

Good Addition to the Series

The storyline and characters continue, with sufficient reminders in the early chapters to easily place their overall importance and scope within the tale. I was disappointed in the unterminated ending, feeling it unnecessary at this point in the series.

Great storytelling!

Telling stories is one of the oldest forms of entertainment on planet earth (and probably many other planets as well). Whether it's verbal, written or video, a good story is a delight to all. Mr. Hindmarsh is truly a great storyteller. His writing makes me laugh, cry, and think. I don't know what else you could ask for.

slow reading, little action, no tension

Im sad to say this novel was boring. It was filled with fluffy detail that added little to the progress of the plot. I found myself skipping pages trying to find some excitement and action. And then, finally, action, almost…a cliffhanger. Thanks.

Wasted effort

Kept reading, hoping that it would get better.
Entire book revolves around repeating the characters names in almost every stinking page. Who wants to read 5 to sometimes 15 names ad nauseam.
Plot only moves slightly about every chapter. I had skim entire pages to find anything meaningful.

I AM DISSAPOINTED!

Book has a lousy cliffhanger ending!

Book has a lousy cliffhanger ending but though these as incredibly disappointing to me but the book overall was very detailed fast paced and engrossing there was also slot of plot devices repeated over and over.

hopefully the next book will be out soon.

A fun romp through space

This is a fun series. Its not rocket science, there's no riveting discussions of astronavigation, black holes, what it takes to develop faster than light space travel or any tedious science-y stuff. Just a lot of fun, some tongue in cheek heroics, galactic bad guys and clairvoyant aliens...A whole planet of them. Have fun reading the series!!

#4 of 6 Great Space Opera

John Hindmarsh has delivered again.bJack Foster is still protecting his planet and the four races that live there. Mr. Hindmarsh has died and Craig Martelle is completing the season. Amazon did have a great deal of all 6 books for about $10. Buy it. These are worth rereading.

I don't know how you do it John. This is probably the best book in the series and I didn't think they could get any better. I cannot wait for You Don't Know Jack! I hope it comes out soon!

Awesome Sci-fi

I can't wait for the next in the series. These cliff hangers are driving me crazy. Once again Hindmarsh has created an awesome Jack Foster adventure full of action and intrigue. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.

More complications

Our story is becoming more than complicated, with ever more efforts by the various nefarious entities that either want Jack’s Planet or revenge upon Jack himself or his entourage.

The series is starting to get tedious as it seems to be the same general plot and actions over and over again while the characters don't grow and remain two-dimensional. Still, it is interesting and I've invested enough time in the series that I'm going to follow through until the end.

Exciting and intelligent!

This is the second time I've read this series, and I still can't wait to read the next one. These characters are easy to love and root for, and the story is exceptional. I am looking forward to other books by this author.
