Heaven and Hell weren’t the enemies everyone thought we were. The mortal plane was more like a chessboard. With humans being the pieces and us the players. The divine was more bound by their rules. If there was one thing the seven deadly sins could sense, it was the dark desires of the human soul.
The heavens wept when Cain rose his blade and brother struck down brother, for the fourth sin emerged in a rage of Envy that could tear down the strongest bond.
BLURB:
Evangeline: I died once. When I was denied Heaven, ripped away moments before reaching its Golden Gates and sent back to Earth, a shadow followed. I was trying to take advantage of my second chance at life. Although every day was a struggle, I was still here, still living, and I would do my best to make it what I wanted. But that presence was always there… It lurked in the dark, watching, and though I told myself time and time again that it was nothing, I could not shake the feeling that I was being hunted.
Leviathan: I was the tainted angel. The experiment. The dark one pulled from the Abyss and forced into something I wasn’t. When I lived amongst the other angels in Heaven, I was always reminded of how I was never enough. I was imperfect, polluted, the one who would never have what the others were all gifted with upon their creation. The heavy burden I carried each day was what tipped me over the edge, was the reason I fell from His Grace, and became a Prince of Hell. I would be forever plagued by my malice, my spite, always coveting what I could never be, what I could never have. I was consumed by my sense of resentment to Him, who I believed to be the reason I was so cursed, haunted by my feelings of never being enough. All of that changed the day I looked upon the face of a human female… one who seemed to call to my dark, twisted, jealous soul, and I decided that enough was enough. If I was to have anything, I would have her.

When Dylan was younger, she always had an aspiration to tell stories. But before she even knew how to write, she would draw them out. Her mother always encouraged her, and bought her piles of blank notebooks for her to draw out the stories she imagined in her head. Her dad encouraged her to use her words instead. Over the years, he pushed her into writing clubs and bought her notebooks so she could fill them with endless short stories.
When Dylan isn’t busy writing, or spending time with her two boys, she likes to play guitar, piano, and paint. Mind you she’s not good at it, but she likes it nonetheless!
I don't need to know what every single thing in this book/world looks like, even if it may appear otherwise.
Also, what's the point in postponing the first normal interaction between the main characters for 25/30/35%?? I wish I could say at least the stalking aspect was worth it, but it was so light, almost like a featherlike touch. Barely perceptible.
Is it a romance or an ambitious attempt at an epic fantasy? 😂 Some books shouldn't take themselves that seriously.
I kinda liked the hero and the way his sin was represented — grotesquely, but fine. I can tolerate that ridiculous guy. I can even find him endearing and worthy of pity— but overall I just couldn't find it in myself to care about either the hero or the heroine. Especially the heroine, don't start me on her and her role in this story. 🙄
Only one word can describe their epic romance: MEH
i gotta give it to dylan page, when she heard 'envy' she wrote ENVY. this man was so petty, salty, sulky, and petulant it was adorable, i wanted to pinch his lil cheeks ☺️☺️ he reminded me of a sassy dragon
he didn't know how to take care of a human so he bought her cat toys 🥺 and put a can of tuna in a pet bowl 😌 and locked her in a gilded cage 😍 he was also a demon and his demon form was described kind of grotesque... so obviously i pictured him as ryuk from death note
and idc what y'all tasteless asses say, cause i say SMASH
Another day, Another release, and Another Seven Sin. This time it’s Leviathan, known as his Sin, Envy. Have tissues on hand; I didn’t expect it to be so emotional.
So far, Leviathan is my favorite. He is equally endearing as he is a brutal demon. His love for Evangeline is beautiful and selfless. Evangeline is a sassy warrior. Her comeback is the best. I am in total awe of her strength.
Leviathan has never been happy; one day, he is captured by Evangeline. He is conflicted with his emotions as humans are the weaker species he can’t stand. I know it’s vague. I went in blind, and I suggest you do too.
I love the interconnection between all the books and the bread crumbs to Lucifer’s book. Envy is the first book I have read by this author, saying I am sold. As much as this book is not as dark as the previous books, it does not take away from the story; the author paints a vivid picture. Significantly of the underworld. Five stars for excellent world-building and character growth.
Leviathan(H): one of the seven princes of Hell Evangeline(h): a mortal who has escaped death
The parts that were amazing: > Leviathan's ocean-inspired castle in Hell > Beast, Hell's guardian who needs love n kisses🥺
Everything else was a no. > Leviathan had a permanent stick up his ass > Evangeline acted like his motivational! life! coach! > The resulting romance? 🚮 > THE ENDING??? shit cannot b real
"I knew that whatever spell she’d cast upon me, I’d fallen completely under, and what was more… I had no intention of removing its hold."
2.75 strangely wholesome and slow-burn stars?
Not sure how this got tagged as a dark read but...
guess dark is subjective.
Envy was a sulky sad boi, who feels lacking and less than and Evangeline is his "has been through worse" sunshine. While very cute, their actual screen time was pretty short, if you read the story you will understand... This came off with a lot of world-building (like I am talking like some SJM ACTOR level) as if this was supposed to be a trilogy of some kind. Grade A on that from Dylan, it just wasn't a main point of the assignment for me. (Yes, I plead guilty to skimming.) It ended up feeling overdone and taking away from the overall storyline and story/reader connection, which in turn made this a slow read for me.
Although, if she chooses to write some fantasy series in the future I'd be down for that.
Leviathan was never enough in Heaven, never as good as the others and was always reminded of it. So when he became a prince of hell, that didn't go away. When he meets Evie, he finds that maybe he can have a small piece of happiness, even if he has to take it.
THIS BOOK IS INCREDIBLE. This series has been fantastic so far, but this book just knocked it out of the park. Leviathan is a jealous/possessive MC when it comes to Evie, and I am here for it. Evie was sweet, and so resilient despite all the issues she's had. The two together created a dynamic couple who gave us captivating and steamy scenes.
Going into this book, I didn’t expect to shed as many tears as I have. This story is on the lighter shades of darkness and is one of the most beautifully written ones I have been graced with reading. If you don’t read anything else this month, read this book.
Evangeline is a warrior and a survivor, beating a childhood sickness and death itself. She is a gorgeous soul that longs to just her life to its fullest and has the sparks in her personality to prove it.
Leviathan is the sin of envy and he carries the biggest chip on his shoulder towards humans. He is cold and hateful but it doesn’t hide the hurt he hides deep within what is left of his soul.
These two together - it’s an interesting (and sometimes hilarious) sight. I loved seeing how Evangeline made Leviathan see all that he has and what he is truly worth. Leviathan changed so much with the help of her and didn’t even realize it.
Dylan took me on a journey with these two and I absolutely loved everything about it. She brought these two characters to life with their hilarious banter and heart breaking inner struggles and worries, all within a vivid world. This is a slow burn romance but it is worth the wait because the build of this story is phenomenally done. I couldn’t stop turning the pages until the heart fulfilling end. This is definitely worth locking your doors, ignoring work and phone calls just to lose yourself in.
Dang it, Dylan! You have an evil streak the size of ... the size of something so wide that I can't find the words for it. You wrecked me. Again. You'd think that I'd be better prepared after as many times that you've made me ugly cry, but NO! It sneaks up on me every time. Envy took me on a journey that I wasn't anticipating, and that's what this story really is. It's less about Leviathan and Evangeline than it is about him and his redemption arc, and it was so very beautifully done.
okay, first things first - anyone want a little Gnaarl and ‘Kys’ novella? because i’m obsessed 😂
now that i got that off my chest - i really enjoyed this installment in the Seven Sins series!! Leviathan was such a grumpy Hero and embodied the Envy sin perfectly in the beginning of the book and i really appreciated that. deep down Leviathan is a little cinnamon roll who truly just wants love and to feel like he belongs with someone.
loved Leviathan and Evangeline together. loved their dynamic and the little bit of banter they had going. also really enjoyed that this didn’t take place in the human world, it was so fun seeing a different realm.
will say i do feel like the ending was a bit rushed, but overall such a fun reading experience.
I haven't read this author before and this story just pulled me in. The world, the characters, and everything in between. Leviathan and Evangeline are perfect together but it's a slow burn and there are triggers. I just couldn't put it down.
Wow...I was absolutely floored by this book. Once again this author has delivered a beautifully written story that has a level of emotion that's hard to find in fiction. Absolutely amazing read!
Leviathan truly embodies Envy in every way, but it goes beyond the surface level of what you would expect with Envy. His sin is so deeply rooted in his entire being, something that is so inherently a part of him yet there is never a moment you don't feel his pain and desperately want him to find the happiness he needs.
I won't get too detailed (avoiding spoilers), but despite his dislike and avoidance of humans, Leviathan crosses paths with the heroine Evie, and although he may not understand his obsession and draw towards her, it's obvious that she is his one. I'm a sucker for a jealous/possessive "Hero" with a heroine who is his exception to every rule, and this book delivers that and so much more. Given who and what Leviathan is, it's no surprise that he takes Evie captive 😈🔥, but what follows is where so many unexpected surprises happen
Evie was an amazing heroine. She has definitely been through some things but those things have taught her to live life to the fullest. She's funny, sweet and has an inner strength that I loved.
There was so much more to this story than I ever would have expected (in the very best of ways). There was heat, humor and a beautiful love and storyline that was absolutely amazing.
Dylan excels at writing emotionally driven books and this one was no exception. Beautifully written with unexpected layers that will make this story stick with you long after you finish it. 💚💚💚💚
Oh Leviathan, I just want to hug him and love him!!! I loved that this book stayed for the most part in Hell. It was neat to see an interpretation of the planes and the various palaces. I laughed just as much as I cried reading Envy. His interactions with his demons and Evie were so much fun to read, especially his more formal old timey way of speaking. Dylan managed to perfectly portray that feeling of Envy and what it does to you, constantly judging yourself based on what others have and not feeling adequate, it's just so heartbreaking and finally finding someone who sees that and strives to fill the empty void that just won't ever be filled. It was beautiful and tragic and just so incredible. That last scene, just that image is one that will never leave me. Sorry I don't do spoilers so if you want to know about the scene, read the book!
Envy by Dylan Page was such a captivating and emotional read that I couldn’t put it down for anything and managed to finish it in a few hours. I loved how Evangeline and Leviathan’s relationship come to be and how it grew to be the redemption for Envy. I could feel Leviathan’s unhappiness, his dissatisfaction from the very first page of the story, and it was mesmerizing to witness him shed his resentments one step at a time by finding true, selfless love. Envy was another great paranormal romance in the Seven Sins series and I highly recommend it to pnr lovers but they should most definitely have a box of tissues ready nearby for some cathartic crying.
What an intense emotional rollercoaster ride this story was! Right from the start I thought for sure I was going to hate Leviathan because he was so smug and angry at everyone as his hatred ran deep. But when Evie enters his life (rather unwillingly) you slowly see Leviathan’s heart melting and his walls crumbling down. These two have such amazing moments together learning about one another that it they would continually pull on my heartstrings and soften my heart towards Leviathan. Their back and forth banter kept me smiling and only hoping for good things between them. There were some very intense moments between them that had me gripping my kindle tightly with anticipation and there were some very steamy moments that left me panting for more!
I absolutely loved this story and I wasn’t expecting it to gut me like it did. I was sobbing into my pillow long after finishing the book as the last few chapters really tore my heart out! But I loved every heartbreaking moment and the ending was utterly perfect!
Very beautifully written! I've come to expect beautiful prose from this author, and she didn't disappoint. The image of the kingdom is vivid in my head days after reading, as clear as if I had seen a photograph. The story was beautifully written, touching, and made me cry. It was nice to see Dylan stretch her wings out of Dark romance and into PNR. I'm looking forward to more of it.
I am totally digging these Seven Sins books and let me tell you that Dylan Page doesn't hold back any punches with her story about Leviathan and Evangeline. It truly is a beautiful story, even with some darker tones included. Can the Sin of Envy ever truly be happy, guess you have to read it to see what happens, but let me tell you that it is a great story and I loved every second of it!
While Beast might be one of my favorites from the story, I truly enjoyed seeing how everything played out in this book. At his core, Leviathan is just a man looking to be happy even if he cannot admit it. From the moment he lays eyes on Evangeline, something changes in him and watching both of these awesome characters grow is truly something lovely to see. All in all, this is a little more on the tame side of the other books in the series, but it doesn't take away from how special they are. I totally give it 5 outta 5 stars!
PS: Thank you to Dylan Page and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!
Dylan Page did it again! Did I expect to cheer for a Demon/Fallen Angel? No, but here I am crying for Leviathan and Evangeline. Who ever read any of Dylan’s books they know how amazing she is with words and world building, and based on her previous books I had high expectations. She didn’t disappoint! Dylan knows how to touch you with her words and make you feel for the villains, and in this case for a demon. Knowing that Dylan is knows how to flip a story and give you an unexpected ending, I was a bit afraid going in to this book! But I loved every chapter, every character development and ending! She even managed to give human characteristics to a demon and thus allow readers to feel empathy for him! And Evangeline is such a strong character! I absolutely love her! She will teach you that Heaven is not the same for everyone! Do I recommend this book! Absolutely yes!
This was a great read! This sin was an exact portrayal of envy. The demon Leviathan is always wanting what everyone else has. This book is how I would think things would go if a demon and human met. Completely naive about the others world. It made for some kinda funny moments when Leviathan would take things literally and treated Evangeline like a pet.
I really enjoyed the way these two played out. They battled so many issues and both had to make the hardest choice when she got sick, but just when I thought this ending was going to break my heart, Evangeline took me by surprise. That ending was so good!
This Seven Sins series has absolutely been so good! I’m loving the world and all the characters and side characters! It’s obvious a lot of work has gone into making sure they all the characters stay connected and true to themselves across the series in multiple books. Great so far and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Another deadly sin and this was one rollercoaster ride of emotions!Leviathan is a mix of several personalities and he has this dark vibe about him that makes him unforgettable. This is my first book from this author and I must say I am very interested in her other works.A demon's love was simply perfect to read.
This story is breathtakingly beautiful. The way Evangeline loves Leviathan is pure and selfless. I wish I could re-read this story for the first time.
I am a sucker for playlists with books. At first, the playlist didn't seem fitting for a dark demon story, but the further I read, the more I realized how perfect it was.
This story was one of hope, self-love, and sacrificing your own happiness for those you love.
4.5 ✨ ✨✨✨ This so far had been my favorite of seven sin series cause I just loved Leviathan!!! He really just wasn’t happy and was use to being that way but that changed entirely when he met Evangeline and she became the only he’s ever wanted and the only thing he would give anything up for. Seeing things through her eyes was something he never thought would be important but I was all about this one!!!
Dylan is a new author for me and really enjoyed Eva & Leviathan's story. Grumpy/Sunshine vibes. I liked how it was more heavily told from Levi's POV. His character was very developed and flushed out with his redemption arc that is not to say that Eva's wasn't.
This is book three of the seven sins series. Dylan page has written an amazingly beautiful story for this prince of hell. Evangeline and Leviathan are very different but fit so beautiful to together. This is a story of strength and discovery. Its a journey that will give you s rollercoaster of emotions. I highly recommend this book!
This was such an excellent addition to the series. I loved everything about Evangeline and Leviathan. How their relationship progressed was a delight to experience. Also, the world-building was fantastic as were the side characters (Beast I'm looking at you👀).
Another fantastic read in this series! Dylan Page always brings such incredible emotion to all her books to make the characters jump off the page. Evangeline and Leviathan are both awesome and so are the various side characters. Love Beast! This also has so many moments I was giggling away at. Loved it!
This was beyond horrible. I don't even know why I was told this was a dark romance. The romance itself was lukewarm and somewhat wholesome if a little unbelievable. I'll just say I hated this with a passion. Too much unnecessary elaboration on hell and a tiny bit romance. Leviathan hated himself to the point that he made me hate him too. No connection between characters. No chemistry. The heroine acted like the hero's personal cheerleader. Agh, the only redeeming feature in this story was Beast.
If your looking to begin this series, but don’t want something too dark, begin here. The story still have dark elements, but the characters struggles hit on an emotional level. **grab some tissues** Leviathan has a negative opinion of humans, and why wouldn’t he after not even feeling like part of his own kind before the fall. As with many of the other fallen, he doesn’t see why the Father has such a love for humans. His sin is envy, and we see this from the start when Greed goes to a party at his place in the Underworld. When Evangeline enters his world, he wants her for himself. She has been through so much, as has Leviathan. These two souls were meant to be together, and Evangeline is his saving grace. This story makes you laugh, but also will make your cry, so have some tissues ready!
